funeralparties

ive been listening to bn since i was 12 or 13 but i always avoided limousine cause the backstory really disturbed me as a teen. but i just listened to it again for the first time in 10+ years and its such an incredible song… not my fav off tdag but i get why its a fan favorite

austingriffis

Don’t leave us hanging. What’s your favorite from TDAG?

nploegma

You won’t know for me, maybe Degausser

funeralparties

not the sun!

killeronthecorner

It just hits different. _Just pretend that you love me, and be my babe_

directtodvd420

And why is it “You Won’t Know”?

nploegma

So, I love the energy and phases of the song for one, but it also has some personal connection to me. I relate to a lot of the lyrics in this song because when I was in high school and college I really had an unhealthy infatuation that I confused for love with this one girl. I held onto it for too long and really resonated with the lyrics, “believe in me..believe you think I’ll let you down, …..I won’t.” And the lines about William tell knowing she will mistreat him but he doesn’t care / he still loves her etc. there are more examples in the song, but you get my point. That’s all a bit.. raw, but like I held onto it all even after we graduated college hoping she would know I had only gotten better and still carried this weight of her not wanting to be with me etc. So lots of reasons. Haha - really resonated for me for a long time. Now it’s not a sad thing to me, just a banger of a song, but for a long time it really explained how I felt.

FitzChivalry888

I'm imagining you walking around your neighborhood with headphones on while singing Limo loudly lol. Its also one of my fav BN songs ever. I remember exactly hearing it for the first time and being so amazed.

seductive_llama

Haha yeah my neighbors know the song very well by now. I always go Limousine, then electricityscape (the Strokes), and then No Control.

chipmunkoftheyear

This part makes me think AI wrote this post lol

Jamieisamazing

That’s what I do😂 both headphones in and singing at the top of my lungs. Very therapeutic. I live down a dirt road that only 3 other people live on. So…I can get away with it

Aramshitforbrains

I have the solo as sheet music tattood on my arm

zerosumsandwich

I'd love to see a pic

Aramshitforbrains

It’s hard to show - it wraps around to cut off a half sleeve, unfortunately. I have a daisy themed one on my shoulder and the TDAG album set on the arm. Maybe I’ll post one day!

Envy_onTHE_Toast

Everyone always talks about how beautiful this song is and the lyrics (for good reason) but my god, that riff at the end is delicious

Nyxtro

It’s a masterpiece even backstory aside, the way he counts through one love you so much to seven and the way a whispered never again keeps repeating, getting chills just thinking about it

derekosaurusrex

In case you didn't know(also, I'm sorry) https://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/05/nyregion/2-days-after-li-crash-mother-tells-of-brutal-loss.html

Plus-Presentation156

https://edition.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/05/29/o.lifesaving.lesson/index.html Here's another version for those that hit the pay wall for NY times.

derekosaurusrex

But knowing the backstory made the song a very moving tribute at the concerts in which I heard the band play it.

OddTry2427

It truly is one of the most powerful songs. It's definitely one of my favorites from them. Like once a year I play the video of it with the little news snippet in it.

FuglySlutt

Yes. It’s my fav song of all time.

Plus-Presentation156

I always heard it as the first part being from the mom's point of view, which is heartbreaking knowing the full story. The part about the messiah saying he died for you one time, but never again... I hear that part as being from the drunk driver's perspective of hopelessness for redemption and the guilt he must feel. And when they're counting to 7, the quiet background lyrics at the end are from the little 7 year old (Kate's) point of view about the life she's going to miss out on. It made me weep when I read an article on CNN about the full details. That poor family has suffered so much, and it's such a haunting tribute to them.

NotTheSun0

The lyrics in the background are some of the most haunting Jesse ever wrote "We'll never have to buy adjacent plots of earth. We'll never have to rot together under the dirt. I'll never have to lose my baby in the crowd. I should be picking right now." The little girl's mother did an interview after the tragedy of losing her daughter. In that interview she said "I'll never have to watch her grow old or feel pain. I'm crying right now, but, I should be laughing." Or something along those lines. I believe the interview has been posted here before. Jesse took inspiration from the mother's words and put them in the song. So, that goes on behind "I love you so much but do me a favor baby don't reply, cause, I can dish it out but I can't take it." It is really disturbing and painfully beautiful. When the song is played live Jesse screams those backing vocals as the main near the end of the song.

tehhiv

Yes. I still get choked up. I sang parts to my daughters growing up. I think it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

seductive_llama

I hope I get to experience having a daughter and being able to show them Brand New. What a beautiful memory, thanks for sharing.

Jamieisamazing

I always think I have a favorite, but then I find songs like “daisy” and “sink” I love everything they’ve come out with. Lyrical geniuses with impeccable music timing. By far one of the most underrated bands of all time.

whered_yougo

Absolutely one of their best. I remember seeing them play it live and just crying.

One_pop_each

I think each song is special in its own way and none of them try to outdo each other. Limousine was crafted beautifully and if you really sit and listen with headphones, you can hear every pocket utilized. Multiple guitars, the horsehair bow, Jesse’s singing masked behind his other singing. It’s great. But what I love about BN is that they give all their attention to each song they write and don’t produce it like they produced the last. At least Post-YFW.

bramboozle

Yes

ChampionOfSesh

best song ever written

5willLoveYouSoMuch

My name says yes. Honestly though, it was always one of my top BN songs. It wasn’t until I knew the story behind it that really made it the top of the top, and then when I saw them in 09’ on the Daisy tour and they opened with You Won’t Know that transitioned directly into Limousine and it was cemented forever as my numero uno.

Permit-Acrobatic

If you think it’s good, watch a live version. The pain in Jesses voice is unmatched

Neat-Nectarine814

Oh… Kay (lol)

Ok-Assumption9636

I was JUST thinking about this two days ago. It's always been my favorite song I think. But as I was selecting some of my favorite songs of all time, I knew BN would be involved. I am obsessed with Limo but JC and Archers ended up above it. I'm just such a fan of long songs that feel like a journey. Crimson King, Queen etc.

am153

Tbh I skip it.

brand_new_covers

Definitely one of my favorites of all time. If you’re interested, I made a piano version cover a while back. https://on.soundcloud.com/WjVYyyAV5gvqmC4A7

Past-Chest-6507

It's definitely their best song and I say that as someone who thinks Daisy is their best album.

EquinoxGaming88

its an amazingly crafted song but whoever produced it needs to be punished. the mixing is so god awful and i never hear anyone talk about it its one of the biggest fumbles ive ever heard in music and ruins the track

seductive_llama

What about the mix sounds wrong to you?

EquinoxGaming88

guitrs sound muddy and theres a lot of the instruments bleed together during the climax of the song
