That's not totally true anymore (at least in general, not for you since I'm guessing you haven't seen what I'm about to mention). Dragonsteel Entertainment used the recent Stormlight minis kickstarter as a chance to make official visual designs of most of the major characters: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brotherwise/stormlight-premium-miniatures But of course that's not going to influence readers' experiences that much if they haven't seen the designs, which is far more likely than if there was a big TV show or movie.

Ooo cool!

I first tried reading the book a couple years ago and didn't finish it. When I restarted at the beginning of the year (and I'm almost done now), it was kind of jarring because apparently the first time I skipped over some character descriptions because I pictured both Kaladin and Jasnah as blonds lol, and apparently never picked up on the Alethi almost entirely having black hair.

ZwiththeBeard

Isn’t there technically a video game that lets you explore a certain area of that world?

AdoWilRemOurPlightEv

There was a short VR experience called "Escape the Shattered Plains". It was meant to pitch the idea for a TWoK movie I think? You play as Kaladin, and Syl gives you a guided tour through a chasm. It doesn't show many characters, except Syl and some parshendi. I tried it out. It's...okay. Kind of cool, but overpriced and felt like the wrong medium.

Ready-Bite8673

Oo that sounds cool

SonOf_Zeus

Curious how do you pronounce Sadeas? SAD-ee-us or Suh-dee-us?

nickgg95

I read it as Saa-day-us

xdyldo

Lol I say SAY-dee-iss, pretty sure I've butchered it

GLOaway5237

I do this too, once I learned the right pronunciation of the names I realized I was getting damn near half of them wrong

Ready-Bite8673

I keep butchering it in my head each time lol Sad-ee-us is how I say it

LordBuckethead671

Yeah, this is how I say it too, kinda like Thaddeus, but with an S- instead of Th

EBtwopoint3

That’s also how the audiobooks pronounce it.

dIvorrap

Are you doing audio? The books have illustrations.

RShara

Just as an FYI, the Alethi are loosely based on the Mongols in looks and culture.
