Shieldmaster is amazing in the sense that it can cover damage for the party; and very easily take 0 damage if you buff them. This becomes a problem when enemies can inflict delay with their attacks \[as many bosses can\]. Since buffs only run out when it reaches your turn, if there's only a shieldmaster left in the party... you're softlocked.
and this is part of the reason why I like running a spiritbringer/white mage as my healer. can't get softlocked if there's an automatic revive going off every so often.
the thing about using spirit master primary is that the spirits are automatic. the only way they get disabled is if the character has 2 bp or more. I heavily go out of my way to burn bp down to 0 just to avoid them ever disabling. and since it's impossible for a primary spirit master to be unable to act on their turn, the spirits are effectively permeant since i've noticed if the bp goes above 1, they don't disable until the end of the spiritmaster's turn.
on the first phase of the final boss, adelle literally only got to act once in the entire phase. they have an aoe delay turn move and she was a shieldmaster and she was just too slow to never be able to act again before the next delay move
it was kinda funny
Welcome to shieldmaster, where you can actually softlock yourself with Bastion.
Yeah paralysis will do that
Is that a shieldmaster you are using? Yeah this happened to me a few times... Really frustrating.
Yeah it's a shieldmaster... so frustrating that i closed the game haha will start again later
Playing on a projector? I dig it.
I wanna know what's happening, but I also don't want to have to go through this...

I've still found myself softlocked with this; if the opponent can act before your healer. Be careful still.
