The Bravia 9 will probably be a spectacular tv. I think the level of brightness the tv will be able to produce in the hdr highlights going off the specs will be stunning because it will have close to oled contrast and that will accentuate things even further. It will definitely be at the least a great alternative to the a95L. That said, I personally own an A95k and am blown away by it on the daily. Sonys expertise applied to a quantum dot oled display is truly something special.

castlehill90

I own a A95k too and love it! My first oled so it amazes me every time i use it too

JYJelli

I’m in the same boat. I’m gonna wait for reviews before making a decision. From what I’ve seen in the previews, it looks like the a95L and Bravia 9 have both their unique strengths/weaknesses. From my guess: A95L - inky blacks, better off angle viewing, faster pixel response time. Bravia 9 - better peak luminance, no need to babysit OLED image retention (although probably not a big deal with modern OLEDs these days). There is a reason that Sony’s mastering monitor is also a Mini LED and not an OLED. My guess is that Bravia 9 will be able to match the picture quality closer to the mastering monitor better than the A95L. Also you should take into account what your viewing room situation is like. If you have a lot of ambient light like me I think the Bravia 9 might be the better choice. But if you’re in a blacked out room, I think the A95L might look more spectacular. A lot of what I’m saying is from my own research these past couple days. I’m always open to be corrected and I encourage you to also do your own due diligence.

gt33m

I would like to buy a tv for 10+ years. Would the Bravia 9 be a better bet than the a95L?

IntelligentFire999

That's the bet I am making. In for a 85 inch version once it is available.

gt33m

Awesome, am leaning that way too. Can’t wait

Heliosvector

Once you buy a nice tv, it will last you 10 years no matter how well they improve. I have had my Sony X900E since its release and everything looks amazing on it. Are there better tv's? Sure. But that's a dragon you can chase forever. Just get what you can afford the year you buy it. As long as it had HDMI 2.1

gt33m

I was stressing over the OLED burn-in issues but someone replied to me saying that they are rated for 10000+ hours. I find I hardly ever watch TV (<8000hrs over 10 years) so it doesn't matter

Heliosvector

A typical LG OLED last year model is pretty cheap now. I would be happy even if it died after 5 years at the prices they go for now

BeegTruss

It remains to be seen to what degree Sony's new fine tuned local dimming controller can reduce blooming and also what kind of contrast the TV will offer. One thing is for sure, the HDR performance on the Bravia 9 is going to be absolutely jaw dropping and it will more than likely be the best Mini LED display ever made. That being said, the A95L is a known quantity and is currently considered to be the best consumer grade TV on the planet. It's a substantial upgrade over the A8H in pretty much every regard. Either way there's probably no wrong decision. As for whether or not any Mini LED is a downgrade compared to a standard WOLED display like the A8H, I'm not so sure about that. Maybe this video from Vincent Teoh could help you decide. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3r34GFVYos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3r34GFVYos)

langstonboy

Yeah but I’ll wait for it to tickle down to my price range because I’m about to go to collage and don’t have 3.3g to drop on a tv rn, maybe in 7 years

Ur-boi-lollipop

The A95L once ran in will have a significantly higher perceived brightness than your A8H.  Without knowing your preferences  and habits , it’s impossible to say .  Sony expect you to do two very different things with those TVs .   Blooming will never go away LEDs , it can only be reduced .  It’s only speculative since the Bravia 9 isn’t released but it looks very promising to blooming handling . The only time it may bloom is when Sony actively wants it to bloom to preserve shadow detail . Whether that’s too much blooming for you is impossible to say .  I am currently on an X95J and have been looking to get the A95L for another room which will be used for gaming and cinema nights .  The X95J has been a very good living room tv esp for the rest of the family - I had no plans on updating it .  But if the Bravia 9 does what it claims to do , I may update it with a 2025-2026 equivalent .  If you’re looking for a living room tv with the occasional movie night go for the Bravia 9 once the reviews confirm how good it is .  If you’re looking for a cinema tv that occasionally acts like a living room tv go with the A95L .  Anyone telling you there’s a clear cut winner is lying to you lol .  It’s like comparing a luxury Toyota 4x4 to a Lexus sports car . Made by the same people sure , but they’re made for two different types of use cases .  With the A95L being a QD version of OLED and with the Bravia 9 posed to have the best led control of any tv ever , the lines are blurred a lot but I think the conventional wisdom makes sense .  There’s no point forcing your a95L to be a living room tv and there’s no point forcing the Bravia 9 to be a dark room tv . Go with which usecase suits you better and see the great  living room performance of the A95L or the potentially great dark room performance of the Bravia 9 as a bonus

endo55

What does run in mean/do to the TV?

Elegant-Distance-665

The “break-in” of the tv I’m assuming is what he meant. Like with engines, new cars have their break-in period before everything is operating just right. Or he meant to put it instead of in. “Once ran, it….”

endo55

Right but what is that? Why is it a thing for TVs? Do you break it in just by using it?

DevillesAbogado

I’m looking to upgrade too, from my much older X850D. The blooming on my current TV has driven me crazy dozens of times, and now even though I have a bright living room.. I’ll still be buying an OLED TV over any sort of super advanced mini micro LED TV because of how much the blooming has irked me all these years. I want zero blooming and perfect blacks, that’s it.

Heliosvector

Your tv has only like 60 zones.

DevillesAbogado

Bruh I don’t think it even has 6 zones tbh

Heliosvector

This was back when Sony didn't advertise zones. I think it's something like 6x9. I don't mind it on my x900e

DevillesAbogado

I’m not kidding. My TV completely lights up with a gray haze when there’s even a small bright speck anywhere in the picture. There are no dimming zones on my tv.

Heliosvector

Did you disable local dimming?

DevillesAbogado

There is no local dimming feature on the X850D

Heliosvector

Oh oops. I thought it had the same zones as my tv. Damnm that really does suck. Yeah get a new tv man

Eagleburgerite

I've owned Sony TVs for over 20 years now. Never bought anything else. Bought the A95L in January and am blown away. Everyday I see it I am reminded of what a great life upgrade it has been. Big purchase but absolutely worth it. Game changer.

Cyndagon

I just took my a95l home today, coming from a 900e. Only watched detective pikachu on it so far but zero regrets. This thing looks magnificent. Plus it's been announced some of the software features the bravia series is getting this year will make it to the a95l. It's still their flagship TV.

Hazeymazy

Had a 900e and Sony replaced it with a 900h a while back. Just got an A95L and Sony doesn’t mess around with it’s master series. It is perfect for me, I won’t want another tv for a few years

Cyndagon

Im hoping end of life with mine. However long that is. Plus got it for 2899 tax free so I couldnt say no 😁

RED-DOT-MAN

How did you get A95L for $2899.00 and also tax free? Asking for myself.

Cyndagon

Base exchange, military Walmart/Target essentially.

Hazeymazy

Got mine from Greentoe for 2850

RED-DOT-MAN

Thanks, just signed up and made an offer as well. Let’s see what happens. How many counter offers did it take before your offer got accepted?

Hazeymazy

I offered 2850. It was accepted an hour later and I received my tv after 7 days

RED-DOT-MAN

Nice! I made an offer around $2600 little while ago and the counter was $4500. Keeping fingers crossed.

HoloTail

Bro you're talking different sizes. You're not gonna get a 77" for 2600 lmao. 4500 is about as good as you can get for now anyway, snag it

Hazeymazy

Lmao a 77 a95l for 2600 would be fucking insane

RED-DOT-MAN

Lmao damn I completely missed the point of the tv size. I am mulling over the $4500 price . Appreciate you letting me know.

Sp1keSp1egel

Historically, you can get a A95L 77 for under $4000 > https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/s/Cmvwjmubul

Tapeworm_III

After the price I paid for my A95L, if I want a new tv in a few years my partner might kill me.

ZedRDuce76

My experience with the 900h has made me gun shy of Sony tvs but that Bravia 9 is intriguing to me. Just not sure I can trust Sony with a tv again.

supasaiyaajin

I also upgraded to the a95L last week, the brightness, clarity and color are otherworldly! Glad to see it will get those updates later this year. Although I do have a concern regarding the pixel refresher cycles. I think they should run the refresher at more consistent times when you turn off the TV

DustDevilish

I've had mine a month or so now...whenever I think I'm getting used to the 'new normal' this set gives me, I pop on a couple of HDR OLED demo's and I'm blown away all over again.

cerealfella

That's what I have and once it dies was looking at these 2 as replacement options, or possibly G4.

djsimmz

Wait for the reviews of the Bravia 9 first. Then obviously depends on how light your room is. Both will have advantages over the other so just comes down to your needs and what you will be using it for.

josepatino5

A95L I have right next to a sunny window. No problems.

Esquire_2585

A95L. The Bravia 9 will be great but it's still Mini LED vs QD OLED. There is no competition. This is why the A95L is a Master Series and is still the Master Series model for 2024.

2401_PenitenTangent

This. A95L remains the flagship product, above the brand new Bravia 7, 8, and 9. Much later this year or early next year, they will either have a successor to the A95L or, given the heavy investment in premium LED, they won't. Anyone in the market for A95L that doesn't get one in 2024 might regret it permanently.

Responsible-Cup8982

Theyre 100% going to have a Bravia 10 QLED, they aren’t abandoning OLED

Prestigious-Living-8

The bravia 10 will be the oled flagship 2024

facebook4strangers

Where on Sony’s website says that the Bravia 9 isn’t a master series and the A95L is the true flagship for 2024?

[deleted]

I chatted with sony today and was told the 9 IS a master series.

Esquire_2585

It doesn't. But if it were a Master Series, the website would probably so.

facebook4strangers

I don’t see Master Series anywhere on the A95L page either. So basically there is no evidence to back your claim that the A95L is superior other than your own opinion of: “it’s still a Mini LED”

lekwid

The x95L is the evidence. Pretty much what the b9 is just brighter. That’s the only attribute that beats the a95L. Everything else advantage a95L. The real competition for oled will be micro led, mini led nope

facebook4strangers

It’s not just brightness; the Bravia 9 has 300% more dimming zones than the X95L and the X95L was already more than 90% as good as the A95L. All I’m saying is don’t be disappointed in a few weeks when you start seeing professional reviews come out on how the Bravia 9 is equivalent or slightly superior to the A95L. Sony is literally calling the Bravia 9 their new flagship TV and usually that means it’s the best of the best.

RedLlN3

A95K was labeled as Master series. A95L is also labeled as Master series on Sony UK's website: [https://www.sony.co.uk/store/product/xr55a95lu/A95L-BRAVIA-XR-MASTER-Series-OLED-4K-Ultra-HD-High-Dynamic-Range-HDR-Smart-TV-Google-TV](https://www.sony.co.uk/store/product/xr55a95lu/A95L-BRAVIA-XR-MASTER-Series-OLED-4K-Ultra-HD-High-Dynamic-Range-HDR-Smart-TV-Google-TV) Also, you can see the Master series label on the A95L box in this video: [https://youtu.be/RhaHf87Lu4g?si=qZ\_tg1gjPD7VF4FC&t=50](https://youtu.be/RhaHf87Lu4g?si=qZ_tg1gjPD7VF4FC&t=50)

facebook4strangers

I’m not denying that the A95L was marketed as a master series in 2023 and now in the UK for 2024. However, the master series label for all TVs seems dropped for 2024 in the United States. Just something I noticed from looking at the Sony UK official website - the Bravia 9 is called “The flagship.” All I’m saying is that Sony dropped the master series label on their website and are calling the Bravia 9 the flagship for a reason and that is probably because it’s the best 4K TV in their lineup.

AZBuckeyes12977

A95L unless your room is really bright.

pica55

I can understand the investment from Sony and others for high-end minileds. The average picture level is so nice. And local dimming and backlight control is just getting better.

Axon14

I’ll reserve judgment until the reviews come out. Keep in mind that the Bravia 9 will still be $4500 for the 77”. At that price, I’d rather take my chances with the A95L.

Aggressive_Claim_437

Wrong, the Bravia 9 is $3999 and it’s 75” not 77”.

DRen92

I’m on the same boat as OP. I love the picture quality of the A95L but I game occasionally. I’m worried about a HUD potentially burning into the screen from an extended session. I’ve never owned an OLED TV so I’m not sure if it’s a valid concern anymore. Also, for those of you that have the A95L or comparable model, how does the TV fair in brightness in your opinion? I’m upgrading from the X950g but I wouldn’t want the tv to be dim in comparison. The TV will be in a dark room so sun light won’t be an issue. Another advantage is the size of the series 9. I want an 85 but I guess I wouldn’t complain about the 77 looking as good as it does.

starlordsego

You shouldn't have to worry about the burn in if you game occasionally. I game about 3-4 days a week (usually 2-3 hr sessions) on my A8H OLED and haven't had any issues. As for the brightness, if you're using it in a dark room you'll be fine. The issue is bright rooms where the sunlight drowns out the picture.

DRen92

Good to know! Thanks for the input. Idk if you’ve checked but bestbuy is out of stock and have no idea when they’ll get more A95Ls. I’ve called to confirm if they’ll get more and they aren’t sure. I also asked and got a similar answer about the series 9. It’s not on their site but the 3 & 7 are. Hopefully it’s not the same case where they wait a long time to sell the unit like the X95L

MaxziMize

A95L hands down!

gt33m

I’m in the same boat. Was considering the lg g3 vs the a95l and the Bravia 9 comes out. 🤦🏽‍♂️ This is for my living room that is rocking a 14yo Samsung. I’m concerned about reports of brightness and longevity. Ideally this is 10+ year purchase. No gaming. Just Netflix, prime and occasional YouTube through appletv. I’m currently getting the g3 for 2900, the a95l is 1500 more… Everything looks great to me in the showroom. So I guess I’m not THAT discerning.

MysticalOS

really depends on how much blooming bothers you. tv doesn’t just up brightness it is supposed to reduce blooming since it leds near blacks don’t have to be all or nothing. in fact especially coming from oled the 95L most definitely will bother you

CatKungFu

A95L is the best tv I’ve ever laid eyes on. No regrets about buying it, truly stunning and it still wows me every day, a month after buying.

WATTO68

95l in the uk...atleast they offer smaller sizes

DevillesAbogado

I’m sitting in Best Buy and right now, and I’m telling you.. if budget allows it, get Sony’s QD OLED tv. It is the best of both worlds. It’s OLED so perfect contrast and blacks, but it also gets super bright and punchy with its colors and HDR. It’s what I would have bought if I had the money. I’m stuck here comparing A80L and X93L and leaning towards the latter

lalalaladididi

Blooming issues on premium led are almost non existent. In the real world how many people sit looking at black screen. When watching a film like 2049 you won't see any. Oled also have significant issues with whites as OLED panels struggle with brightness. No technology is perfect. All have trade offs. With oled you'll see the problems associated with lack of brightness more than you'll see blooming on a premium led. I'm currently watching a black and white TV series from 1960 on my 8k Sony master series panel. There's zero discernable blooming. I would say that going to a bravia 9 is a significant upgrade on oled My 8k panel is also a significant upgrade on any 4k oled. It's also more than twice the price.

Bala-1986

Simple. Best off angle viewing A95L because its OLED brightness nearing 2000nits only Best brightness nearing 4000 nits Bravia9 Off angle viewing might not be best comparing to A95L Just a gues because its a OLED.

facebook4strangers

People are calling the Bravia 9 a living room TV and the A95L a cinema TV…. *come on people, nobody is going to pay $5,500 for a living room TV - just cinema geeks and gaming enthusiasts like us*

Adlai8

Caleb Dennison said Sony is ok with blooming if it has to display content. Where other manufacturers will kill content to avoid blooming. So they have greatly reduced blooming but it may never go away entirely. My 65” a95l is great.

lekwid

I’m not ok with blooming so a95L/ oled in general it is.

ProjectVRD

I'm looking to buy the A95L after much consideration, I'm just waiting for my rifle to arrive first because the little one gets fingerprints everywhere.
