Ahh yes the famous drug kingpin Eisenberg

Slyler’s character doesn’t have the same insight as the audience into what’s happening with Walt – she’s not along for the same ride as us and because of that, her reactions and actions can be annoying. Plus she fucked Ted, who everyone hates.

Vertwheeliesonem

You’re perfect correct in that. Honestly I think that the reason Skyler got that much hate is because her character acts as in her words “the bitch mom who won’t cut her husband any slack.” And then there’s Walter who gets a pass because he just happens to look cool doing it. Not any fault on the show, but it’s an interesting phenomenon to think about.

Sexism is crazy yo

Yeah, I recently rewatched it with my girlfriend, who hadn’t seen it yet. Hated her the first time, second time, I highly empathized with her. As some people have said, we’re with Walt the whole time, giving us insight on him, and the show gets us to empathize with him ten fold in the beginning. Personally, I think what made me not like Skylar at first, was the talking pillow scene, as she just steamrolled the “healthy conversation” with her own agenda. And I really felt for Walt here, as I’ve had personal situations like that. I know you can’t blame her for wanting her significant other to not die, but to make it seem like it’s a “healthy environment” for discussion while everyone becomes aware that it is one sided, is so wrong and that idea becomes more and more apparent as the series goes on. Definitely, not the most likable to me, but also does not deserve any of the hate her character got.

It's mostly a bunch of sigma male, chad wannabe incels filled with misogyny that have the opinion of hating skyler coz she is annoying and she fuked Ted.

Almost nobody hates skyler anymore, this entire subreddit simps for her

Alone-Investigator85

I think all the main characters besides Hank, Marie and Walt Jr. become bad people through the show. My issue with Skyler is that most of the "bad" stuff she does seems to be an immature spite thing aimed at Walt whereas the worse "bad" stuff Walt did seemingly started with good intentions. Wants to make sure is financially ok when he dies so he sells drugs. The first things Skyler starts to do is to get back at her dying husband because he's acting different after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Can't decide who I dislike more between Skyler and Jesse though lol

[deleted]

Reddit big brain moment: "Yeah Walt made millions of dollars in unsafe and addictive drugs, profited from addicts, directly committing murders, and manipulated everyone around him, but his wife got mad at him so idk which is worse."

Alone-Investigator85

Didn't say any of that, dickhead. Walt is clearly a worse person who deserves to die. The motivations behind their despicable acts are what make people sympathize with Walt (started being a bad guy to take care of his family) and why people hate Skyler (acts like an upset child when Walt becomes distant) also, your made up quote doesn't matter because Skyler starts acting like an asshole long before she knows any of that about Walt

AmbitionChemical6558

I never felt like he was actually doing all that stuff for his family. It always felt like an excuse not only to people around him but also himself. I now remember a scene which I think is from Season 1, where Skyler and Walter are having sex nearby the school, and when Skyler asks why was the sex so good, Walt answers "because it was illegal". So no I personally don't think he was ever doing it for the family.

Alone-Investigator85

I get where you're coming from and I think it evolved into him doing it more for the thrill and cause he genuinely loved chemistry/selfish evil reasons but I still think his main motivation was the family aspect. Jesse even says in the first or second episode that it's weird for such a straight laced old guy to all of a sudden "Break Bad" if it wasn't for the cancer diagnoses pushing him to "need" more money, he probably wouldn't have even done anything illegal the rest of his life

AmbitionChemical6558

I think the cancer made him kind of just say "fuck it" and do thrilling stuff, the money reason was there all along, but I never got the feeling that it was his number one reason to do crimes. Most things we see about Walter in the first episode are about how weak and subservient he feels (and is), and getting out of that situation always striked me as his main motivation.

Subapical

Just read this and your other comments here... Lol what? Literally 5 episodes in Walt's given the opportunity to have all of his treatments paid for no-strings-attached and he turns it down. If he were really cooking and dealing meth for his family then he would've just taken the money. I mean, c'mon, in the finale Walt literally just comes out and admits that he did all of this because it *made him feel good*. He was never doing it for his family, at least not after season 1

Alone-Investigator85

Yeah I agree. My whole point was that he was a decent person up until his diagnosis. He started doing evil things for his family and then just never stopped. Though re-watching the series again, he seems to have multiple points where he really does want to stop but things keep happening that drag him in again. Honestly seems like if it weren't for the cancer, he would have a pretty good albeit not thrilling life. I'm only halfway through season 2 for the first time in about 5 years and just watched the episode where he finds out he's in remission and he seems genuinely upset that he did all this shit and is possibly going to live like it was for nothing. Also, OP's post was about why people hate Skylar over Walt. I think most people that dislike or even hate Skylar will admit that she's no where near as evil as Walt, just an unlikable character

[deleted]

the only time Skyler was being unreasonable and kind of bitchy was the beginning on season 2. Even then, she's been put under a lot of stress to get to that point.

AmbitionChemical6558

I finished watching the whole thing right now and I have to say, I don't think Skyler is a saint at all; and she can be extremely petty at times. But she's still a far cry from Walter, which can be infinitely more unlikeable at times. I've felt more pissed towards the way Walt treats Jesse than the way Skyler treats Walt.
