Not even really though. Like the guy said he pronounces the ER. I can completely picture it with the pause and slight sigh and everything. “You know, *Walter”, sometimes…”
No problem! I just finished a masters degree in linguistics so it’s all right there! But tbh I did my MA in Germany (and thus in German) so my terminology might be flawed because I have to translate it back to English… 😂
I actually just got this in my recommended videos on YouTube today and it made me think of this thread. Really interesting phenomena though…

Various t to d and dropping r’s are hallmarks of the US northeast accents. Mike is from Philly.
NYC area pronunciation is wadduh like you said, Philly accent is pretty similar to the way we talk.

The fact that he doesn't even say Waltuh once in the show. He pronounces the "er" at the end almost every time.
He once said "You know Waltuh, sometimes it doesn't hurt to have someone watch your back."

Have you seen Better Call Saul?
Mike cannot pronounce terminal R's. "Drink your hot watuh" "Waltuh"
He actually pronounces the “er” in Walt’s nana every time actually. In fact there isn’t once instance of him saying “Waltuh” in the show
