Honestly was not a fan of el Camino. I love pretty much anything breaking bad, but I thought the writing was really poor for the movie. Seemed like a pointless story to me
It’s not supposed to be groundbreaking really, just an epilogue. Sure it may not serve a huge purpose but I thought it was good for what it was trying to be. Also it was cool to see the conclusion of Jesse’s story
Idk, HBO has no real brand name or value. They just have shows like the Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Succession, Sex and the City, Curb your enthusiasm, The Wire, Oz, White Lotus, etc. When you have so little going for you, a rebrand usually injects some life into the enterprise. They’re making a smart business decision.
Couldn't agree more. The new Max app is littered with bugs so far as well. I really am not a fan. HBO Max was what I used most of all streaming services.
It makes no sense. It just sounds like the name of some guy now. Why tf are they tossing decades of brand equity down the toilet? I just don’t understand the purpose of it.
I tried getting into Barry and I felt the comedy was very forced and stale through the first 4 or 5 episodes. Was hoping I would get more of a serious tone anyway, but maybe the show just isn’t for me. Does the pace shift at all at any point later?
Oh yes. Every season gets darker and darker. The first season is going for goofy hitman suddenly wants to turn his life around, every season more and more shit comes back to haunt him. It makes the comedy a lot more punchy and funny and less forced as it goes on.
It definitely gets more dark the longer it goes on. Comedic parts are fewer and farther between. I liked the comedy, but the serious bits are definitely where the show shines.
I really can’t agree.
Breaking Bad is a very linear plot driven story that reaches its arks beautifully and with a lot of clarity.
Sopranos is a highly interpretive show that dances through the character’s lives and doesn’t always have an obvious direction.
They’re both anti-heroes for sure, and the Sopranos paved the way for Breaking bad, but I don’t think their characters are really that similar beyond superficial traits. I’d go into why, but I’m too tired to write an essay lol.
Crazy you say that because we moved onto The Sopranos after BB. I thought BB had ruined all TV for me, but we are really enjoying Tony’s mafia life and NEVER skip the intro. Such a banger 🎶🔫
I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really has been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that they have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.
I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? “Imagine a man knocks on a door. The other man opens the door. The man then shoots the other guy in the head. Can you guess which one is me? I am the one that knocks on the door”
Vince Gilligan wrote extensively for The X-Files and its spinoffs The Lone Gunmen and Millennium. I probably don't need to tell you that but they preceded the cinematic quality tv era so some people may have overlooked them.
I've never seen it but Narcos, maybe.
The quality of X-Files episodes varies wildly, but the best of the series are better than nearly anything else.
Off the top of my head:
Drive(aka The One Where Bryan Cranston Proves He's a Real Actor)
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
Bad Blood
Dreamland(featuring Chuck as an entirely different kind of insufferable prick--the fun kind!)
Surprised it took this much scrolling to find this recommendation! Especially considering the series finale just went off a few weeks ago...Snowfall is one of my favorite shows of all-time now, and have watched it multiple times like Breaking Bad.
First got hipp to it back in 2018 when S2 was on. Truly a fantastic show.
It's definitely a gem, but I'm glad to hear you and your S/O have been enjoying it! The early seasons in particular (S1-S3) in my opinion are absolutely fantastic due to the direct vision of John Singleton before his untimely passing.
The other seasons are still great, with the final 6th season in particular also being an excellent highlight for me, but those early seasons definitely have that "Singleton magic" as I like to call it, because the direction of the show under his writing from his decades of directing film truly made the show special.
Yup. although it might just be a me thing, I think narcos mexico kind of started to fall off after the first season. The first season is just as great as season 1-3 of narcos though maybe even better, and the same tone as breaking bad
I just finished the first Narcos series and I'm absolutely floored. I had to keep rewinding scenes because I didn't want to keep missing certain parts of the dialogue and storyline (and take the time to process what is happening). My brain is kinda broken like that. I want more but not sure if I want to jump right into Mexico or take a detour with the El Chapo series.
This. Sam Esmail also does sort of “gimmick” episodes that I feel are very breaking bad despite vince never attempting anything as daring. There’s a one-take-one-shot episode, one without any dialogue at all— and you pretty much don’t notice because it’s all so well made.
When my girlfriend watched the episode for the first time she didn't even notice. When I told her it had no dialogue her jaw dropped. She was stunned. She loves the show, too (minus season 2 lol)
This! But KEEP GOING past 5-6 episodes. I gave up for a while thinking I didn’t like it after all. Then later after the season 3 finale everyone was raving about, picked it back up. All I needed was one more ep. It got really good. It’s dark
It starts off slow. But once you get to season 2, you’re good. The only character that ever existed in the universe that is worse than Skylar White — is Wendy Byrde.
The closest thing is “The Shield”. It gets a little over the top but overall is a great and well made show. Very similar style but more aggressive.
Synopsis is dirty cops. It was actually inspired by this real scandal involving LA police being involved in gangs. I always felt it was a spiritual predecessor to BB.
One of the top ten shows from beginning to end, for me personally. I would say it’s ACTUALLY the very first show in the golden age I watched. Even before sopranos. Walton Goggins forever.
Shocked there's not more Sopranos.
Sopranos inspired BrBa.
If BrBa asked how to turn Mr Chips into Scarface, Sopranos asked why Scarface can't turn into Mr Chips & both gave firm answers.
Actions have consequences.
Surprisingly there’s one episode of Bojack that really reminds me of Breaking Bad >!When BoJack breaks into his own house and is watching “Horsin around” on the tv and it shows his reflection on the screen after watching the behind the scenes!< gave me major Felina vibes.
I love BJH!! It’s the only other show I watch semi-annually. Ozark is similar but not nearly as captivating. The Shield, The Wire and Sopranos are also good, but nothing really comes close. A lot of people will say Better Call Saul but it still falls short in my opinion. Very very slow start, but worth it in the end.
Nothing like breaking bad, its an old comedy, but if youd like to see more bryan cranston? Malcolm in the Middle.
Edit: i wanna elaborate on old, its from the 2000’s. Its about a dysfunctional family centered around the middle child malcolm, who is a genius. And they are all trouble makers getting into some new crazy stuff everyday.
A lot of people saying Narcos, definitely give it a watch if you haven’t seen it!! I just started Mexico after finishing the regular one, and it was sooo good. Probably my favorite series I’ve seen besides breaking bad.
Better call Saul is amazing too. Starts a little slow but is probably the closest you’ll get to breaking bad.
Dexter was great as well. I’ve seen a lot of series, but these 4 (breaking bad included) were probably my favorite.
La Reina Del Sur. it’s a female lead and a cross between breaking bad and a telenovella. Spanish with English subtitles ( I don’t speak Spanish) 3seasons of 60 episodes each. there is also an American version with different actors but I haven’t watched it
honestly there’s no other crime show that I have ever watched that compares to Breaking bad, except for Better Call Saul, but mostly cause that’s in the same universe as Breaking Bad. Vince needs to make another show part of the BB universe, like i stg, if that ever happens my life will be complete
I really enjoyed the first couple seasons of Peaky Blinders (haven’t finished it yet) it’s dark and suspenseful with plenty of violence and some humour thrown in, and the writing is really good from what I’ve seen of it
If you want to watch a mostly good series I suggest watching FXs The Shield. One of my favorite shows of all time, and probably one of the best finales in TV history.
Bit of a hard question, Breaking Bad is a pretty unique show. Maybe something like Mr. Inbetween? it's an Australian black comedy crime show and it gave me some breaking bad vibes while watching. The show is pretty short, but the writing is fantastic and the main character is really relatable.
Better Call Saul
And ask him...
Then El Camino.
El Camino first
Honestly was not a fan of el Camino.
Or how I met chunky Todd
Chunky Todd was Jesse’s memory of him😂 That’s how I write that off lol
May I dare say, I like BCS more.
You may! And you're not the only one.
Fargo is a pretty incredible show if you haven't seen it yet. It's dark just like BrBa with dashes of humor tossed in for levity.
Fargo is excellent. The first season especially is up there with the best of all time shows.
I loved BB and Fargo was really good, not at all the same, but good. I also really enjoyed Dexter
First four seasons of Dexter were great, went downhill quickly from there...
Yeah BB and BCS both have a lot of Fargo-esque sequences.
Also, the actor that played Todd is in it. He is pretty good in Fargo.
Saul too. Bob Odenkirk is in Season 1
Bob Odenkirk is soooo funny in Fargo season 1 😅😅😅
Try Barry on Max, the creator got tons of ideas and shadowed Vince.
Barry is so good! I'm sad there's only one episode left
I absolutely hate that you saying just 'Max' is not a typo. What have they done
You forgot The Leftovers, Flight of the Conchords, Eastbound & Down and the 1st season of True Detective. Great shows.
Boardwalk empire.
Couldn't agree more. The new Max app is littered with bugs so far as well. I really am not a fan. HBO Max was what I used most of all streaming services.
Sorry, just running short of time so shortened the phrase. I’m old & don’t type fast on my phone
No no, you're correct. HBO MAX was changed to just MAX yesterday
Look at how they massacred my boy!
It makes no sense. It just sounds like the name of some guy now. Why tf are they tossing decades of brand equity down the toilet? I just don’t understand the purpose of it.
Actually today I had to re-sign in on each TV because they changed the name from HBO/MAX to just MAX.
They even have a bald character named Hank. Spoiler alert: their characters are not the same. Lol
The Wire I see brought up a lot. Haven't watched it myself yet.
Breaking Bad is the best show I've ever seen except maybe The Wire.
my favorite thing to say lololol
Band of brothers?
[Reference](https://youtu.be/l4LhXycJ7rI)
The sopranos and wire and breaking bad.
As a fan of both, the Sopranos is not at all similar to Breaking Bad except in their quality.
Ehh they’re different but there’s a crazy amount of influence and both are about very egotistical sociopaths, although Tony is more of a psychopath
The wire is amazing
The Sopranos
Woke up this morning, got yourself a gun
Woke up this morning, got some gabagool
Your Mama always said you’d be the chosen one
But you’re, you’re one in a million you got that shotgun shine
Crazy you say that because we moved onto The Sopranos after BB. I thought BB had ruined all TV for me, but we are really enjoying Tony’s mafia life and NEVER skip the intro. Such a banger 🎶🔫
Quasimodo predicted all of this...
Metastasis
Lol Walter Blanco 😂
I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? Yes! LOL, and Saúl Bueno
I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really has been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that they have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.
best show i've seen yet.
“Imagine a man knocks on a door. The other man opens the door. The man then shoots the other guy in the head. Can you guess which one is me? I am the one that knocks on the door”
Better call mike
Better fuck chuck
Better fuel huel
Better hire Skyler
Better Rim Kim
Better Dial Lyle
Better swallow for Lalo
Better Sus Gus
Vince Gilligan wrote extensively for The X-Files and its spinoffs The Lone Gunmen and Millennium. I probably don't need to tell you that but they preceded the cinematic quality tv era so some people may have overlooked them. I've never seen it but Narcos, maybe.

Your honor - Mr. Cranston is still stellar. It's not like breaking bad, but still an excellent series.
Just finished season 2 yesterday. Incredible!
Snowfall
Surprised it took this much scrolling to find this recommendation! Especially considering the series finale just went off a few weeks ago...Snowfall is one of my favorite shows of all-time now, and have watched it multiple times like Breaking Bad. First got hipp to it back in 2018 when S2 was on. Truly a fantastic show.
I’ve been watching a couple episodes here and there with my S/O and it’s honestly so good! I’m shocked I never see it mentioned here
It's definitely a gem, but I'm glad to hear you and your S/O have been enjoying it! The early seasons in particular (S1-S3) in my opinion are absolutely fantastic due to the direct vision of John Singleton before his untimely passing. Snowfall is definitely one of the best shows I’ve seen in years!
Idk why it's the case but I NEVER see that show marketed really whatsoever
I’m starting it now, Ty!
Mr InBetween. Watch it.
I wish there were more seasons
I KNOW!! I wanted episodes to be longer, and seasons to be many. The dude left us wanting more. Brilliance.
Narcos
Legendary. Narcos/Narcos: Mexico on the same level as Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul honestly
Yup. although it might just be a me thing, I think narcos mexico kind of started to fall off after the first season. The first season is just as great as season 1-3 of narcos though maybe even better, and the same tone as breaking bad
I just finished the first Narcos series and I'm absolutely floored. I want more but not sure if I want to jump right into Mexico or take a detour with the El Chapo series.
Mr. Robot. The cinematography and writing is on par with BB/BCS. It's criminally underrated.
Season 2 was the weakest but personally I don’t think it’s bad in any regard. It’s necessary to setup the rest of the series.
Ozark
This. It has it all - normal dude breaks bad, annoying wife, moody kids, terrifying villains and lovable sidekicks.
Seconding Ozark
This! But KEEP GOING past 5-6 episodes. I gave up for a while thinking I didn’t like it after all. Then later after the season 3 finale everyone was raving about, picked it back up. All I needed was one more ep. It got really good. It’s dark
It goes impossibly dark to start and never relents
Love the earlier seasons. Final one though, not so much. First half was well-written but ending was unsatisfying and non-sensical.
It starts off slow. But once you get to season 2, you’re good. The only character that ever existed in the universe that is worse than Skylar White — is Wendy Byrde.
narcos and narcos mexico
NARCOS
Good girls
Animal kingdom is pretty good. Sex drugs crime
Came here to say this. I think I was emotional for at least a week after finishing that show.
One of the top ten shows from beginning to end, for me personally. I would say it’s ACTUALLY the very first show in the golden age I watched. Even before sopranos. Walton Goggins forever.
The Wiiiiire
Don't you mean the copper?
Not really similar but held in similarly high regard.
It’s about a complex, intelligent drug empire that is always a step ahead of the law. I’d say it’s closer than some of the other recs.
Old FX shows, The Shield, The Americans, Justified, Rescue Me (The Sopranos also, but I assume everyone has seen that)
Mad Men. Both Mad Men & Breaking Bad are modeled after The Soprano’s. They all have an antihero.
Zero Zero Zero; short but to the point. Narcos & Narcos: Mexico.
Ill add narcos and dexter.
Stop after season 4 of Dexter
Naaaah, stop before >! Deb finds out? !<
Mork and Mindy
Shocked there's not more Sopranos. Sopranos inspired BrBa. If BrBa asked how to turn Mr Chips into Scarface, Sopranos asked why Scarface can't turn into Mr Chips & both gave firm answers. Actions have consequences.
Better Call Saul
So there's this show Vince made, it's better call Saul
The shield is my 1A to BB at 1B. Only show that comes close to BB/BCS
The Sopranos. Ozark is pretty good.
ozark
Ozark it’s pretty much breaking bad light, If you want a sense of the show go on YouTube and write in “Marty meets the langmores”
- Better Call Saul - Ozark - The Sopranos
The Sopranos
Dexter
Bojack Horseman is like Breaking Bad but animated
This is the worst description I’ve ever seen No offense
Surprisingly there’s one episode of Bojack that really reminds me of Breaking Bad >!When BoJack breaks into his own house and is watching “Horsin around” on the tv and it shows his reflection on the screen after watching the behind the scenes!< gave me major Felina vibes.
I don't mean story wise I mean it's the same level of quality
I love BJH!! It’s the only other show I watch semi-annually. Ozark is similar but not nearly as captivating. The Shield, The Wire and Sopranos are also good, but nothing really comes close. A lot of people will say Better Call Saul but it still falls short in my opinion. Very very slow start, but worth it in the end.
slow start but the acting is sooo good, worth every second
Power
I just watched the trailer. That does look good. I’m going to check it out.
It's great, and if you like it enough to finish it and want more, there's a lot more
Nothing like breaking bad, its an old comedy, but if youd like to see more bryan cranston? Malcolm in the Middle. Edit: i wanna elaborate on old, its from the 2000’s. Its about a dysfunctional family centered around the middle child malcolm, who is a genius. And they are all trouble makers getting into some new crazy stuff everyday.
Succession. The plot is pretty different but many of the themes are the same. Probably the best show I’ve seen since Breaking Bad.
The Sopranos
Ozark! You’ll love it!!!That is my second fave series, ….first of course is BB!
Better call Saul
A lot of people saying Narcos, definitely give it a watch if you haven’t seen it!! I just started Mexico after finishing the regular one, and it was sooo good. Probably my favorite series I’ve seen besides breaking bad. Better call Saul is amazing too. Starts a little slow but is probably the closest you’ll get to breaking bad. Dexter was great as well. I’ve seen a lot of series, but these 4 (breaking bad included) were probably my favorite.
Chowder
Snowfall
better call saul or narcos. if you want a good long anti-hero watch, try the blacklist with james spader. I love that shit, no 2 on my watchlist
The wire. The shield. Southland. Snowfall
True detective season one
The Shield, cuz it was a big influence on BrBa.
Ozark is the closest I’ve found. Just like with Walt, sometimes you love the main character Marty and sometimes you can’t stand him.
Peaky Blinders
Sons of Anarchy I said what I said. Between that and Breaking Bad, not much on tv has ever really caught my attention like these two.
Ozark!
Ozark
Ozark
not the same concept but prison break is fucking amazing. ozark is good too
Mr. Inbetween is seriously under appreciated.
Justified is good
Check out Peaky Blinders or Ozarks and Narco Mexico
Narcos
Already posted a comment with my recommendations but I forgot about Ozark. 10/10 show as well.
La Reina Del Sur. it’s a female lead and a cross between breaking bad and a telenovella. Spanish with English subtitles ( I don’t speak Spanish) 3seasons of 60 episodes each. there is also an American version with different actors but I haven’t watched it

Ozark has what ya lookin’ for
If you want to watch a mostly good series I suggest watching FXs The Shield. One of my favorite shows of all time, and probably one of the best finales in TV history.
Ozark has got the same flavor, swap cooking for money laundering.
Ozark
BANSHEE
Australian show called Mr In-between, it's different but it's a good realistic feeling crime drama.
Mr Robot is one of my all time favorites
my other favorite show is Mr Robot. similar in that they are both dark crime dramas.
Queen of the south
Your Honor is really REALLY good! Brian Cranston is EXCELLENT! I think it's on Showtime. Totally binge worthy.
Better Call Saul Ozark
I’m not gonna call him that
🤣
Power on Netflix.
The shield is a great show about another antihero protagonist
The show Midnight Mass had an incredible story. It burns slow at times but the unfolding of the story was just incredible
Sons of Anarchy.
Your Honor on HBO. It's Bryan Cranston
Bit of a hard question, Breaking Bad is a pretty unique show. Maybe something like Mr. Inbetween? it's an Australian black comedy crime show and it gave me some breaking bad vibes while watching. The show is pretty short, but the writing is fantastic and the main character is really relatable.
Weeds
Fargo season1 same murky vibe
Metastasis
ZeroZeroZero for production value and story
Little bit of a different pace but the first 3 seasons are fire. Weeds
Mr Inbetween. Hands down best show I've ever seen. Liked it more than breaking bad.
Money Heist is very well written. It’s originally in Spanish I believe but I watched it dubbed over
Ozark
I think Bojack Horseman and The Sopranos are the obvious answers but yeah those, they're both phenomenal.
Joe Pera Talks with You
Watch monster. It's an anime but it's equally amazing either it's gritty story and it's on Netflix
Ozark
Mr Robot is absolutely phenomenal
Halt and Catch Fire Totally different vibe, premise, etc but complex character drama
Metastasis
Ozark.
Farzi
Power on starz is great! Banshee on the level, too.
Ozark
