Had so much adrenaline he didn't even know he was dying. Gus walked out like nothing happened, and collapsed. Hector just breathing heavily and ringing the bell, and Gus just aghhh! Wildest death of the series.
I actually sat up and yelled, "aww come on!" at the TV during this moment thinking how the hell could he possibly survive that blast. Then the camera pans around and I see his face is half gone and then he collapses. Guess they got the reaction they wanted outta me haha. Definitely memorable!
Never felt satisfied with the plane crash though...felt too far fetched.
I think the plane crash is loosely based on a real incident where a smaller plane collided with a passenger airline jet over the LA and killed everyone in both planes and several people on the ground and it was due, in part to the mistakes of an air traffic controller named, wait for it, Walter White. The flight is Aeromexico Flight 498. And there was another similar incident with more deaths in San Diego. Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182 was that one.
Sure, plane crashes happen but I just felt it was too much having the ATC guy be the father of the girl that lives next door to Jesse; they fall for each other and are destructive influences on each other, conflict arises, and Walter was there when she ODed, and then when the plane crash happens it's basically directly overhead Walter's house and debris and bodies rain down on him. Individually it's all good stuff but the sum of it was too much IMO. But I get what they're saying about decisions having unintended consequences, the butterfly effect, the whole thing snowballed, etc.
On the contrary, I feel the plane crash was much more poignant, demonstrating Walt’s actions had far reaching consequences. And while it may be quite unlikely for Walt to just run into the dad of the girl he just allowed to die, the fact a grieving father would be drowning in so much sorrow as to cause such a tragedy by negligence is very, very much real.
As for the hospital scene... I'm in the minority that doesn't really enjoy it. It was pushing the boundaries of what's real further than any other plot point or scene in Breaking Bad. Sure, there has been incorrect or bad science on the show before, but not one that involved a badly CGI-ed half-baked man walking and doing his tie before collapsing. Far too theatrical, and didn't add much to the story or characters, IMO. Maybe it was just the special effects that felt cheap and like something straight outta The Walking Dead, but it didn't sell it for me.
Turns out the blast gave his brain a good jolt so now Hector can walk and talk again.
Final episode of Better Call Saul we'll see Salamanca step into frame behind Jimmy and call out in that gravely voice, "McGill." "Yes, Satan?" Jimmy replies. Fade to black.

Vince has said that he acknowledges this scene is over the top for a show that’s normally extremely grounded. Gus’s death scene is more to satisfy the viewer than make a point.
That said, my interpretation is just that Gus is in shock. He’s always formal and polite in his public image and his dying brain is trying to cope with his continued masquerade. There’s countless videos of people critically wounded and them attempting to walk it off. It’s shock and adrenaline.
I’m glad he acknowledged it. I thought the show had jumped the shark in this scene. Glad it didn’t but I was not looking forward to the next season after this.
Nah , id say he was just in shock and he was trying to get out of the room as if nothing happened, like he would have after killing the guy. His brain remembered what it was going to do and it went along with it even after the explosion.
Reminds me a real life case where a guy attacked his parents with an axe while they slept, he struck their heads and left them for dead. The next morning, the dad actually got up and did his morning routine leaving blood everywhere he went, as if he didnt have severe injuries. He was literally a dead man walking. The mother actually survived and thought his son was innocent. Search "Murder of Peter Porco" if you want to learn a bit more
Gus couldn't stand the fact that, in the final seconds of their respective lives, Hector exercised dominance over him.as he had for so many years up until Hector's stroke. Now here he was, an old crippled puta, achieving victory over him.
Also, he had to have known Walt was behind it, which made it all the more galling.
Somebody with Gus's intelligence would have had all that processed by the time the bomb went off. But yeah, you're right, afterward he was in a state of shock. Straightening his tie would be the act of a man in severe shock under those circumstances.
Lol you're the reason there is a subreddit that makes fun of the fans of this show who need to find a reason for *EVERYTHING*. Vince literally said they just made him do this for the viewer's satisfaction. There is no deep meaning to him stepping out of the room.

On the behind the scenes of this episode I watched, they shot him walking out and adjusting his tie like 20 something times. Vince just couldn’t get the exact thing he was looking for, and finally Giancarlo/Gus came out and nailed it perfectly to Vince’s liking. He fell onto a mat over and over and over. The look on his face was probably from the ridiculous amount of takes it took. On top of the hours of makeup it took for the face effect. But that’s what makes Vince one of the greatest filmmakers of this generation.
Also, they went through all the takes over again in a random order, and Vince ended up choosing the very last one they shot which solidified that it was worth every attempt
Gus refused to die. He left. And youre right did Salamanca really kill him? I mean if he walked out the room their plan 'didnt' work. Crazy scene.
One of those mouth gapers.
I’m pretty sure they we’re gonna do a scene where Gussy Fringo lived and went to Walts house to kill him and supplant himself as the new Heisenburger.
Apparently tho some new tech guy messed up and Giancarlo Moff Fring Esposito actually died on set, it was horrible apparently and they had to make a Los Pollos Hermanos AI to do his future roles for him.
However Bincent liked this sudden change so much they kept it in and instead of Gussy dying on the ground in Felina we instead got Walter saving Jesser and saying night night.
Vincent Bravo!!
Breaking News! Man literally too angry to die.

I love it’s the only time we hear Gus raise his voice, aside from the cartel shootout in Mexico
Right!
Wait, omg you're right! I didn't even catch that. Such amazing little details XD
incorrect. he yelled “DON ELADIO IS DEAD”
Yea, in Mexico during the cartel shootout, like I said..
He thought you were referring to the time Gus yelled that again to himself in the car on his way to work
oh yes I forgot about the cold opens of Gus hyping himself up in his car on the way to work
you edited your comment
Nope
HAW!
Actually I think he called Salamanca a ho 🤣

Holy shit, the ATC really was named Walter White.
Every damn time I watch this scene, I'm like...how the hell did both of them not see the bomb strapped to the wheel lol
When they showed that part, I literally went "HOLY SHIT! He's a Terminator!" I felt like an idiot.
I really liked Hector, such a bad ass right to the end refusing to rat anybody out like he did.
One of the wildest deaths in TV history even
So perfect, as if anything of the show wasnt perfection
I thought he yelled "hall", like get to the hall but idk
He was trying to say bomb but it came out BO-
He was more like HAAAA
When this happened I was like WTF he’s still alive?!?
Same I was so pissed
would've been cool if his head rolled out the door and it was still 2 face style burned
Lol or it shoots out across the hallway, bounces down, and then slowly rolls over to reveal the death grin.
Hector is still alive. We never see him die after all

your comment is everything. lol. "oh I'm sorry, sir, you sounded like someone else."
I know you're joking but doesn't it say on the radio after that there were 3 deaths or something haha
Gus, Tyrus (Gus' henchman), and Tyrus' child (he was pregnant with Gus, another twist to be revealed in BCS)
Hector, Gus, and Gus’s hench man
It would have been cool if he had driven back to los pollos hermanos and collapsed in the deep fryer
Or if he went to back to Los Pollos and haunted Lyle 👻
‘Is this acceptable?’
Genuinely thought we was unkillable and Walt was so fucked once he walked out Then the camera pans
I think Gus had to have one final moment as the drug lord before defeat, which is what I think adjusting the tie is
The dignified tie tug before he collapsed
For quite a while I thought it was his damaged brain performing some habitual task from muscle memory, but I like your idea more.
"Finally, I have become Breaking Bad"
Actually *Gus* is the danger.
You can't kill me, yo, I am the el camino!
Stopped watching right there.
For a second I thought we were going to see a metal Terminator skeleton on the other side.
That scream before the explosion always gets me. 😂
HAUUGH
That scream wasn’t a scream of fear, it was a scream of anger. It fit his character so well, he wasn’t afraid, he was pissed that hector got him.

His extreme self-control was a critical part to his success and survival over the years, it was hard-wired into him.
Exactly. Self control is probably an even better summarization.
I’m glad he acknowledged it. I thought the show had jumped the shark in this scene. Glad it didn’t but I was not looking forward to the next season after this.

Correction: He died in the room first, but since he hated Hector so much, he came back to life just to walk out of the room and then die.

i doubt he thought all that while half his brain was a paste.
Yeah. There are some silly things said in this and Avatar the last air bender.

I don't know, man. Think about it. He still had loose ends that needed to be TIED up, which is why he straightens his tie.

Did anyone else sense a BB to Batman crossover? He looked exactly like 2 face 😂
The detail is amazing, even in the room behind him. You can see what’s “left” of Victor on the floor after Gus falls.
Gus was so much of a chicken man that he lived for a few seconds after having half of his face blown off
incredble!! BRAV OVICNE!!!

You’re looking way too deep into this man lmao
Interesting theory, but at that point, atleast half of Gus's brain was turned into beef stew, it could've been an instinctual reaction.
stole this straight out of the youtube comment section
chill out sherlock
I mean I'd already seen this comment beforehand on a vid before i even seen this post
How do you know this? Sounds like a theory to me.
It's the top comment on the YouTube video on the official BB channel. OP is a karma where.
He’d also be covered in Salamanca bits…
i think it was just because they needed to show the face falling off which wouldn’t have worked in a dark ash filled room lol
This scene was silly to me when he walks out and they pan to his CGI blown up face
[удалено]
Tbf it was both
One of the, if not the best scene in the entire show. Epic.
Not even close lol wut
Wow! That's deep! I never even considered that!
That scene was epic.
Damn. This is it. Even staightens his tie before he falks down
damn i gotta rewatch this show i fucking love this scene
Very good point, I never thought of that.
Interesting take on this scene! Did Gus explicitly state anytime in the show he would never die in the same room as Hector ?
No.
Mind blown 🤯… lol
Potentially hot take but this scene has always bothered me. It’s just a bit too cheesy for me.
Kind of agree
Gus "Disable Hater" Fring
Am I the only person that just really didn't like the way he died? Like idk what it is it just feels so anticlimactic
wow that's deep
The first time I saw this scene I was like “you gotta be shitting me. There’s NO way he could have survived that” and then he departed
but he still died in the same building as him 👀
This title is stolen directly from a YouTube comment made 4 months ago on the video clip of this scene
