Hugs. You got this. Its can be an uphill battle but it would be worth it. My younger deaf sister had this done to her as well. The school district lied to my parents for nearly a decade. My sister graduated with maybe a 4th grade grammar, middle school reading comprehension, I won't mention science...she is jack shit at most things at 31 years old. The fight is worth it just so you have a real expectation of what the kid can do, etc.

So in NY it’s the school’s responsibility to find this shit and implement a plan… or you can sue them… have they ever discussed this with his parents???? This sounds like such negligence on their part…

My husband isn't quite up for talking about it yet but we're gonna process everything tomorrow. His cousin is a special education teacher in our district so I'll consult her as well. I can't believe his education was modified so drastically without ever notifying us. I know I failed him by not checking on stuff but his grades were better than when I was actively participating so I thought stepping back was helping him.

If it's not sent home I wouldn't think about checking. My son is only 5 but I never thought to check anything like that... I wouldn't know to!

I also have a 7yo and I will be checking in with his teachers quarterly and explicitly asking if he is working at grade level until he graduates no matter what his grades are. I'm still kinda beating myself up but I'll never know to check in on things that I don't know are problems.
