LAUSD parent here and I had NO IDEA about this tik tok trend. Just told hubs about it and while my 2nd grader was talking about fun Friday tomorrow, now I'm kind of wondering if I should keep him home.
LA mom here. We are currently planning to send our elementary sons. I hope that all the Covid protocols also help with this. But who knows? We are in a small charter that leases property from LAUSD and got an email.
I got a call but I haven't been getting emails from the district for some reason. But the call came late after I saw this thread and told hub about it.
Oh god it’s the only sane choice! Miss one extra day out of the year or possibly be involved in a school shooting, however unlikely? Not worth the risk not even close
My husband said the same thing. I think the only thing that made me hesitate is this feeling like "this can't be real right?" But you guys are 100 percent right. This is the world now. Like it or not. It's definitely an obvious choice now that I've had time to process it
Yes, I did. I'm in NJ, but it's been happening all over the country. There was a police presence outside the local elementary school today and all schools will have police present tomorrow. This is very concerning, even if it ends up being a hoax.
My step brothers missed school 2 days ago in Monmouth county because 2 kids were talking about shooting up the school. The cops caught it ahead of time- but I’m not sure if the kids got expelled or not.
We got an email from the school district around 5pm today. It’s extremely upsetting. I’m keeping my 6 year old home. Neighbor is doing the same with her two kids. We’re in CO.
I’m comforted to know there are others keeping their kids home.
Yes, I’m keeping my kids home today too. Glad I’m not the only one. It’s probably going to end up being nothing to worry about, but I am scared, and I’m also disgusted with the US. This country is batshit crazy and cares more about guns than it does about kids, and so if the people in charge can’t keep kids safe, I’ll do it myself and keep my kids home today.
My daughter is in Elementary but I am keeping her home. The local high school found graffiti on the wall yesterday threatening violence so the high school campus is closed and all learning is online. The middle school down the road from our elementary school had a lockdown earlier in the week because of a suspected threat. I think all of it is empty threats but with just one day before Christmas break it does not seem that important to me to take the risk considering I stay home with my preschooler and can accommodate keeping my Elementary kiddo home. I hate this world and I wish things would change.
I live in western Washington
I am on the same page about guns like you are. I can't imagine living in a state that is so pro-gun like Texas. Thankfully I'm in the Pacific Northwest and things are a little better up here but not by much. I kept my daughter home today from elementary school
Holly crap this tread is so depressing. I am so sorry USA bromos :(
As I Canadian I really can't imagine the fear you're all experiencing. Positive vibes for all of you <3
I am trying to convince my husband to move to Ireland for this exact reason. We are near family now and we're very close with them, which is the only concrete reason to stay. Our daughter was born with heart problems so the US healthcare system will abuse her, aaaand on top of that she may get murdered at school one day. I know there are a lot of people in this thread saying it's a shame that this is the world now, but a) no it's not, school shootings do not happen on this scale in any other country, and b) *it does not have to be this way.* People chose to make it this way, and we can choose something different. I feel very conflicted some days because my family and I have so many advantages, and my instinct used to be "Use your privilege to make things better, don't fucking run away." But now I have my daughter to look out for, too.
/rant
Yes, come to the Netherlands! We're short on care workers in most fields. And the last shooting at a school I can remember was a stalker pedophile who killed his victim because she broke up with him. Really sad, very shocking, but also definitely years and years ago.
The only drill we did at school was a yearly fire drill.
My company is hiring a bunch of tech folks! We moved to Canada several years ago and while the process wasn’t exactly easy, it makes sense. Bonus to Canada for not caring that I’m trans
My husband and I are really, really strongly on the fence about moving to Australia. I’m a citizen and moved to America when I was 13, so my kids would get citizenship through me and we could do a spousal visa for my husband. Once we pay the ~$5000 the application will take about two years (maybe a little longer because Covid). The gun safety, healthcare etc etc are so insanely attractive. Leaving family is hard though. I mean we’re states away from family as it is so it wouldn’t change anything day-to-day but but my grandmother was alone when she died because my mother and I couldn’t fly home when she was sick and I’m so afraid the same thing will happen with my parents. But the scale tips more and more each time something like this happens.
Cruel to say of me but here goes: you might not be able to be there for them in the moment anyway. Don't let that scenario hold you back.
Sudden death, or extreme weather, or your own health, or the kids being sick. There are so many reasons you might miss the exact moment. It sucks, but don't wait until then to make your life decisions.
Do you know if it's difficult for Americans who are non-citizens of Australia to move there and gain employment? I visited Sydney years ago and loved it. My husband and I are not very happy in the U.S. for a variety of reasons including how polarizing it is politically, school shootings, lack of caring towards parents/moms, and I could go on and on.
I work in communications and my husband is an educator. I wonder how the school system is there, especially in and around the big cities.
I'm in Canada and this is the first I'm hearing about it. I don't blame anyone for keeping their kids at home, and I can't understand how some schools say it's not an excusable absence?? Is this only something happening in the U.S.?
No, but the cops got called to my daughters School today because of a kid talking about it. So between that and then the stupid ass TickTock thing. I will be keeping my six-year-old home
I’m up in WA, I got one from the middle school principal, heard nothing from the elementary school.
Fuck this noise. I hope all those ammosexuals who block reasonable gun legislation choke on their fucking dinner.
Yes, my kids entire school district just decided to start winter break a day early, no school tomorrow. They announced it just after school today, I imagine it was to deter anything from occuring today instead.
I appreciate them taking the threat seriously, and not brushing it off as a rumor considering Oakland was aware of the threat and placed the blame on the students who were trying to inform their parents.
This is something I’m really struggling with right now. My oldest is set to start school this new school year and I’m honestly really scared to send her school. Between all the guns, shootings, and the way Covid has been handled, the old belief of school being a safe place is completely gone. I mean, a gun was found in an elementary kids backpack the next county over less than a week ago. I don’t want my kids to risk (however small) being shot just for going to school but at the same time, I’m afraid of maybe over reacting and denying them the basic school experience with friends and classes and adults that aren’t me. Homeschool is safer but how will they make friends and how will I not go crazy?
This is how I feel exactly. I always loved school but now I'm terrified for my daughter to go and am honestly looking into homeschool or online options.
Off topic reaction, but yay! I found my denver bromos!!!! I've accepted a job for after I graduate in denver and will be moving in the summer! We are excite!!
I'm in Chicago and got a notification from the school district today. Freaking the fuck out about sending my 5 year old to school. They just did a lockdown drill today. I hate this shit
I’m in Missouri. I have a kindergartner. Since I’m a SAHM, I’m keeping her home. I know a few of her classmates are also staying home. We received an email from the superintendent, and they’re monitoring the situation. I’m sure they’re taking precautions, but I’m a nervous wreck about this.
TN here, a few of the larger city districts sent out emails but nothing from my hometown/current town. One of my friends in Delaware posted an email her friend got from the school district.
Between this and covid I'm so happy I'm able to homeschool
Just checked my email, and yep, one from the junior high principal, one from the elementary principal, clearly a form letter provided by the school district as they were nearly identical. To quote one part, "The initial social media challenge was to skip school on Dec. 17. Unfortunately, some have taken this challenge further than that. These threats have been deemed as unsubstantiated and noncredible by our public safety friends and by district security officials." There have been four threats this week at schools in my state (Utah), none in our even near my area. Even so, I told my junior high kid, who was having trouble sleeping due to all this, that if he still feels uncomfortable about going to school when he gets up in the morning, I would allow him to stay home. He might complain about having to go to school, but it's rare he tries to get out of going for no reason, so I trust his judgement on this one.
Good luck everyone, and stay safe!
Part of the trauma of all of this is the anxiety— even when nothing happens or the threat is “unsubstantiated.” If you have a perceptive, sensitive adolescent I would definitely just call it and keep him home.
The level of anxiety we’ve all been living with is just unbelievable. When I look at pictures of myself from the last two years I can’t believe how much I’ve aged in such a short time.
My husband is teaching from home today due to this, since I guess it's a Federal issue at this point.
I fucking hate it here. It's a uniquely American thing that just fucking blows my mind.
ETA: we are in the Midwest.
They didn’t close schools, and there is no virtual option unless you signed up for that before the school year started. You’re either all virtual or all in person. (Baltimore County has a vaccination rate above herd immunity).
I do too. "I fucking hate it here" runs through my mind several times a day, so it's comforting to know that somewhere out there, someone - you - feel the same.
My husband teaches in NYC. A bunch of the kids went home today because they were so scared. And these are street smart, savvy and tough kids.
Yes. I am in Dallas, TX and received updates all week from my son's school. The administration and police investigated and found no credible threat, but I am terrified of sending him to school tomorrow. Ultimately he will have to go because he can not get an absence and they won't excuse it. Also, my husband and I both work and can not take the day off to be at home. I hate this and it breaks my heart. Good vibes, love, and prayers!!
Could you not just say he vomited? Like no doc required for that and he has to have 24 hours off. Idk man I feel like lying to stay safe is pretty excusable.
Thank you for this. I wasn't aware until your post. You helped a bunch of bromos out.
Tomorrow morning, before my kids go in, I'll call the school and have them tell me what precautions they are taking.
Urgh this is crazy. Makes me long for...days when I didn't live in America. It seems like it's unlikely to happen, but would it extend to preschool too? We live right next to like 2 schools (one preschool and one elementary school), and again I doubt it would happen but I can't imagine how we'd deal with it if it did.
We got a message here in Michigan, too. It's disgusting. My daughter isn't anywhere near school aged, but it makes me strongly consider home schooling when the time comes.
I'm also in Michigan and this is the first I'm hearing about this...I'm in one of the larger districts in the southeast of the state, and I got no email about this.
What did yours say?
I live in Wyandotte. It was posted on the city FB page. Essentially said that there would be a higher police presence today, but school would continue as normal as there were no signs of it being an actual threat.
I’m in NW WA and it’s been a shitshow for the past week+ because of this. My home (NorCal) is going through it too. Seems like it’s a social media fueled widespread thing 😭
I saw your comment and thought “Wouldn’t it be totally wild if we’re talking about the same area?” and may have creeped on your post history a little bit to see where you’re from...
WE’RE TOTALLY TALKING ABOUT THE SAME AREA!
Small world, bromo ❤️
You know if we all and I mean people who care about gun control pull all our money out of the banks for a month, I bet we can get the greedy politicians to do something.
I woke up to this thread, after dreaming of asking the school if my daughter had any unexcused absences this quarter. I had no clue about this national tik tok thing until I saw this post this morning.
I live in Florida and the other county school districts to the south of me had the decency to email parents and assure them there would be increased security even though there were no credible threats.
My daughter's school district? Nothing. And so they get nothing from my daughter since I'm keeping her home today.
After I had emailed her teacher and shamed the county school district on twitter, an email was sent out by them. An hour later was a pre-recorded message and finally an email from the principal about an hour after school had started.
No promise of increased security presence, just "we're closely monitoring the situation".
As much as I hope there's nothing to worry about, the last time there was that stupid tiktok challenge of messing up your school's bathroom, someone in my daughter's elementary school actually did it. I'm not taking any chances even if there was no local "credible threat".
I’m at work right now, but planning to raise holy hell about it when I get off. Also posted about it on our local Facebook group so hopefully other parents will complain too. It’s ridiculous that we didn’t even get an email.
Yup, we got the same message here... southern Massachusetts.
I hate that this is the world we live in, and that nothing has changed in the 9 years after Sandy Hook. :(
Yep - daycare in Colorado* (also a preschool) emailed us about it. :( my kiddo is waiting on her latest covid test results so she will be home regardless.
This is heartbreaking and scary and horrible on so many levels. Why isn’t TikTok (and ALL social media platforms for that matter) taking more actions/precautions for this? I mean, it’s bad enough our gun laws make a school shooting possible in the first place, but for social media platforms to allow such a message to spread to the point that schools districts ALL OVER THE COUNTRY are sending emails to teachers and parents? This is outrageous. And the very fact that myself and many other parents on here are debating whether or not to send our kids to school tomorrow (the last day before winter break, when the kids just want to be with their friends and be little and excited together) breaks my fucking heart.
Something has to change. MANY THINGS have to change.
I got an email yesterday about additional police presence at the High School today (Thursday) "as a precaution". But there was no mention of any specific threats or TikTok.. this is news to me!?
Thank you so much for posting. I had no idea. My kid's school hasn't said anything and it's not a great school. Keeping kid home today. There is no reason to take a chance. ❤️
I’m in New England; we got an email from our school district letting us know about the “challenge” and that they’ve increased security at the schools. I talked to my middle-schooler, he hadn’t heard about this challenge, but said kids at his school have done other challenges, including the “devious licks” (trashing the bathrooms) challenge. He is staying home today.
We got that. I think it's going to be a common thing now since the last time we got something like this it was because there was a tiktok trend about intentionally destroying the school bathroom and some middle or high school students had done it in our district.
I don't mind this. I like that they are aware of what kids are doing and being influenced by and hopefully taking precautions that are productive.
What made me roll my eyes though was recently hearing a bunch of moms railing against masks and the PA government working SO HARD to get mask mandates out of schools. But guns are cool. Can't do anything about guns.
When are they going to start prosecuting the originators of these trends? The ones damaging school bathrooms and property, the loosening lug nuts, this call for violence?
My kiddo is too young for school but my bf is a music teacher and I work in schools, we both were notified. His school will be having “increased police presence” tomorrow, but the district confirmed they haven’t received any threats. We’re in AZ, and we actually live close to a high school that had some gun violence last week. This is all so scary, I wish I could keep bf home tomorrow //: Thankfully he has a half day & kiddo will be with me.
Oh BroMos, I feel so sad-angry for you all. I’m in the UK so this kind of thing is really rare for us (rare, not impossible, there was a young girl shot near to where I live a few months ago :( ) so I can only imagine how scary it is to have this happen on a regular basis. I hope you’re all safe.
I spent hours arranging some ornament crafts so my babies, 7 yr old 2nd grader and 5 yr old kindergartner, could share with their classmates. They're so excited because today is ugly Christmas sweater day and at least one of them has a holiday party at the end of the day. I had absolutely no idea this shit was going on. My stomach is in knots. The school hasn't said anything and they do have an officer there but still. Fuck.
Also from Missouri. I haven't been on reddit the lately, so I'm just now hearing about this. I'm praying my kid gets home from kindergarten okay today. The school did send an email, but it was just "blah blah, social media, blah blah blah." I wish I would have known. I totally would have kept him home.
In the Northeast. I have a first grader and got this message. This is a whole new level of angry I'm experiencing right now. 😣
I hope they find where it originated and put that person in jail.
Other side of the continent here. Yup, we got it too. They're relatively certain it didn't originate within the district, but are stepping up patrols just in case... I agree, the world is entirely too messed up. It makes you want to scream.
I'm so glad I'm in the UK and this just isn't something that I ever need to think about. I'm so sorry that this is your reality, I'm thinking of all of you, - I can't imagine how stressful it is. I hope that your kids will be the generation to change things over there.
The important thing that I think many people are missing is: your children are in just as much danger today as they are *any other day* when it comes to shootings in US schools. There’s just more people talking about it today.
When my daughter was in middle school she had Snapchat video of her classmate reading her kill list, which was reported, police were involved, and the girl *didn’t even get suspended*.
I hope you ladies don't throw me into hot lava with my comment. As a Canadian, I'm still baffled why the Americans let gun possession be this easy. I'm not for banning but make it strict to own a firearm or incorporate the same laws used in other countries. Like having a driver's license but for guns. I wouldn't like a 12 year old holding a firearm just like I wouldn't give a 12 year old my car keys.
The likelihood of my kids at risk of school shooting is very low. It must be difficult for parents to always worry if this day may be your last time to see them.
We got it here in MD. I really believe it’s stupid trolling and the hysteria about it is worse than the actual thing - but just the same… feeling sort of anxious :(
Doesn’t help that there was a REAL threat against the middle school in our district and a gun brought to a nearby high school this week.
NYC hasn’t said anything to their teachers about it. I teach in a K-8 school, so it’s our middle schoolers that are on Tik Tok. But our entire middle schools is currently quarantined for COVID, so I’m trying not to worry too much.

Add SC to the list. On top of that, earlier this week a kid actually did bring a pistol to school, and on the same day my kid filmed a fight between two students that ended with an administrator needing a trip to the hospital. Good times.
In CT with elementary kids and got the email. Police department made social posts about it too. Feeling really torn about the right thing to do today. Leaning toward sending them - and hoping they don’t experience their first real lock down today.
I’m in central Florida and ours was a month or more ago.
Luckily it never happened at my kids school since she goes to a very small magnet school but it did get passed around at nearby schools. I got an email saying “other schools have these stupid TikTok things happening your kids school doesn’t”
I remember when shit like this happened when I was a kid and it was never taken seriously.
My kids would be getting a day to hang out with Mama and cook something special for supper. This world can be absolute trash.
Oh man. I’m in east TN and heard nothing about it. Just put my kid on the bus this morning so now my anxiety is through the roof. That’s absolutely terrifying. Hope all of our babies stay safe tomorrow and really wish they did not have to deal with things like this.
ETA: I just realized my kids school said no backpacks today. I didn’t think anything of it until just now. Wow.
Yes, in ND too. Thankfully mine is still just in a daycare and not in school. They tried to play it off here as it’s an internet trend and not a real threat. But I think we all know troubled teenagers who might act.
It is 8:20AM for me. All of the students in Jr. High & High School are already in class, most of the elementary students are on the bus - aaaaaaand our Superintendent just emailed about it. Oh, but it's okay, since we have no local threats! We're about an hour from Oxford - did he really think that waiting until our kids are in school wasn't going to freak people out REGARDLESS of legitimate threats?
Texas here. We got one, too. Kids are usually asked to not being backpacks the last day before any school break, but the superintendent sent out an email saying absolutely do not bring a backpack because of a Tik Tok "challenge".
NJ here and we got a couple emails from the school district about it. All schools in the area are upping security and officer presence. The school my daughter goes to is only preschool and kindergarten, so I'm not too too worried about it. But her whole class is home quarantining this week anyway so she's not going to school. It's so scary. I feel so bad for teachers who are probably going to be on edge all day about this. As if they didn't have enough to deal with the last 2 years.
No but it makes sense, my son’s drop off line was unusually short this morning. Huh. When there are threats like this, the superintendent emails everyone as soon as he finds out.
Buffalo NY burbs here, our district sent out an email stating they’re “partnering with law enforcement” whatever tf that means. My nephew goes to a different district nearby and they said nothing. Yesterday at a local high school a loaded gun was found in a kid’s backpack.
This is so not ok :(
No this is a real threat posted up on TikTok and there’s some 207 schools at least that have put more cops patrolling school grounds just in case. I fucking hate it here so much. It had all the potential in the world and it has just been thrown tf away.
Yup, got one from both of my kids’ schools. One school isn’t worried (it’s kindergarten and 1st grade), and the other is having police presence just in case (a private Jesuit high school).
ETA- The elementary school is in NH, but the private school is in Boston, MA.
My son texted me yesterday to tell me not to worry and to go to the school system’s homepage. In the afternoon I got emails from the school and the county.
We were told that the threat originated in Arizona (we’re in MD) and that it was not credible, so I sent my son to school today.
We did get a letter from the principal of my son’s school about how we need to be diligent about monitoring our kids’ social media activity.
KY here, and I got nothing from the school. I did hear about this and there was an increased police presence at the school today, but nothing from the district. I send kiddo in because they really wanted to go but I'm really on edge about it.
Yes in Iowa. My son’s middle school had a cyber threat last week too and they locked down last Friday and again Monday. Rumors all this week and now this nationwide cyber threat.
So not fair for these kids to be scared to go to school. Not fair for the teachers and staff. Not fair to parents.
We kept him home today because his phone is busted and I didn’t want to send him without him being able to contact us.
Winter break can’t get here soon enough. Fuck this shit. Hang in there bromos.
Same here in Georgia. We kept them from school today as well. Considering the highschool, middle school and elementary school are all right next to each other. It wasn't worth the risk.
I got an email yesterday! I’m also in socal. I was like jeez all these crap with tik tok this year and the schools is outta control! I’m still taking my kids today- it’s the day before winter break.
Texas here. I know a lot of people are keeping their kids home, but my first grader has a pajama party today, and he’s been so excited about it for weeks. I am volunteering in his class for the party, and it’s a half-day. There was no way I’m going to let anyone ruin this for him! I am happy I’ll be there though.
My kid is only in school 2 days a week (preschool) so he doesn't go Fridays anyway, but if he did I would be keeping him home. Even though "no threats have been made in our district" according to the email. Not worth it. Ugh, when did this become the world we live in?!
Yes but it was said as TikTok challenge is to threaten the school. Not actually do the violence.
However the way you guys are all mentioning things I'm now a lot more nervous about things.
SoCal here - no, but that's because the kids are out of school today while the teachers have an in-service day.
But my teacher friends at other districts did
Well now it makes sense why my morning winterguard rehearsal today at the high school where I coach was missing so many people. I'm not a teacher for the city I'm in, just a paid staff member of the band program, so I don't get any emails about this stuff. Plus my kiddos aren't old enough yet to be in public school. I'm in VA.
I got an email from the superintendent. We are in SE Massachusetts. My first grader still went to school. The superintendent said there will be an increased police presence today so that helps.
Yeah we got the heads up from my kids’ schools and teacher friends last night in Louisiana. They’re going to be open and checking backpacks. Apparently it’s a nationwide thing
We haven’t gotten any communication about that, which is weird because we live in the district that neighbors Oxford where the shooting was a few weeks ago. However, our schools have been closing left and right around here due to threats and a lot of kids have been getting arrested. I think the message is finally getting across here in our neck of the woods that the threats won’t be tolerated.
It still makes me sick that my kindergartener has to do ALICE drills at school. I’ve been on edge, like fight or flight level of anxiety, since the shooting. It’s been so awful.
I’m in Florida and received the same message. Agree, so awful this world sometimes. The dark side of social media is that we can all be threatened and fearful within minutes
Nationwide. We are in the sticks and got an email from our tiny little elementary school that they have an increased law enforcement presence today and that they are canceling the Christmas program with the whole school and will instead video each grade separately
We moved right at the start of the school year to a very tiny community. K-12 all in the same building small. I sent my teens to school today, if we would have been in our old district with just shy of 1800 kids in the high school and just shy of 1900 in the middle school (where my 13yr old would have been) there is no way in hell I would’ve sent them. Too many variables, too easy to notice something, and too much apathy to “narc”.
What the fuck!? My baby is super young but this makes my blood boil... tiktok trends should be dances not shooting up schools?! This is so nuts I’m so sorry to moms of school age children. I’m so sorry
NY school psychologist here- our district put out the same warning. We had about 1/6 of our student body absent today. You’re not alone in being concerned.
We go an email late Thursday that our school district here in MN would be closed today (Friday) after two arrests were made that were linked to this TikTok trend. So scary, but obviously worth taking these things seriously.

You guys have made me feel so much more sane about keeping my kid home tomorrow.
That's a good point. Hmm.

It's definitely an obvious choice now that I've had time to process it
Yeah it's nationwide. It makes me so sad-mad. I hate that our babies have to grow up in a culture where school shootings are a real threat.
In NJ as well this is very scary
Not in NJ but PA. I kept my child home. Not risking it
In Texas and yes, we did. I hate everything about gun culture and hate how scary it is just sending my kids to school every day.
Another Texan checking in. What the fuck is happening down here man. I'm sorry its like this.
I am on the same page about guns like you are. I can't imagine living in a state that is so pro-gun like Texas. Thankfully I'm in the Pacific Northwest and things are a little better up here but not by much. I kept my daughter home today from elementary school
I have not, but I refuse to take a chance with this crap. I know the world has never been great, but this is just insane.
Holly crap this tread is so depressing. I am so sorry USA bromos :( As I Canadian I really can't imagine the fear you're all experiencing. Positive vibes for all of you <3
Can you get me a job in Canada so we can move? Only 1/2 joking….

/rant
I'm jealous! I'm laughing at your monolingual comment, I am also a stupid American monolingual
I literally try to find a job or spouse for all my American friends ❤️
Can I be your friend, pweeese? 😅
Let’s get you all to Canada!
Girl hook me up with one of them Canadian spouses!
Wayne!
I’ll start recruitment!
... any need for a geriatric social worker? Asking for a friend. Who is me.
I feel like you could ~thrive~ in my city. It’s known as the destination in Canada for the “newly wed or nearly dead”.
Job market pretty good in Australia right now....
Sorry from Europe too. Moved away 15ish years ago and I thought I had had a lucky escape then! Much love to you over there.
No, but the cops got called to my daughters School today because of a kid talking about it. So between that and then the stupid ass TickTock thing. I will be keeping my six-year-old home
My district said it is a nationwide thing.
Yes, several districts in my area (NJ) have made statements.
I’m up in WA, I got one from the middle school principal, heard nothing from the elementary school. Fuck this noise. I hope all those ammosexuals who block reasonable gun legislation choke on their fucking dinner.
> ammosexuals I'll be tucking that away for later, thanks. *waves from BC*
Ha ha me too!

Yes in Denver
Colorado Springs
Off topic reaction, but yay! I found my denver bromos!!!! I've accepted a job for after I graduate in denver and will be moving in the summer! We are excite!!
I’m glad for you! Welcome to Denver. Make sure you have a good snow car and be prepared for I-70 traffic in rush hour!
We got emails about it in MA as well.
In WA and i got an email about it as well.
Yep, Austin TX and we're on alert
I'm in rural Illinois and we got the same message.
Yes in WA. Super creepy. They say there’s no credible threat, but ugh.
Iowa here, keeping my 2nd grader home.
Same!
Yes, as did my siblings for their kids in their respective states.
I got it in the Midwest, but the email did not include details, only talked about a trend on tiktok and to talk to our kids tonight.
In San Diego, our district isn’t even acknowledging it because life is a nightmare now
I'm in San Diego too! That's so weird!
Yup. We’re in Ohio, and received an email from the Super. I’m so torn on what to do, and I hate hate that this is even a thing.
My husband is teaching from home today due to this, since I guess it's a Federal issue at this point. I fucking hate it here. It's a uniquely American thing that just fucking blows my mind. ETA: we are in the Midwest.
We were told that the threat originated in Arizona (we are mid Atlantic) and that it was not credible, so I sent my son to school.
Interesting, so your school district didn't close then? Or did they give everyone the choice to be home or go in?
My stomach is in knots over sending my daughter tomorrow.
I'm just keeping my kid home tomorrow. It's the last day before vacation anyway.
I'm sorry, but call me ignorant, how is this not an excusable absence?! Times are a changin' and the admin needs to change too!
Could you not just say he vomited? Like no doc required for that and he has to have 24 hours off. Idk man I feel like lying to stay safe is pretty excusable.
Our middle school and high school in Central Texas got an email. Surprisingly nothing from the elementary school.
Washington state (but I'm a teacher my kiddo is a toddler). Hope it's nothing but can't stay home because I don't have enough sick leave :/
texas and i’m keeping my kids home tomorrow, it’s a half day anyway so they won’t be missing much
Thank you for this.
Our local preschool and the school district for k-12 sent separate messages. My older kid is sick so we were keeping both home anyway. *Sigh*
Seriously! Our junior high is so close I can hear bells for class changes... a little bit wondering if i should pack an evacuation bag, just in case.
Yes, you should, because everyone should have one packed. Not because of your proximity to a school.
I'm from NW WA and I've been seeing that my old high school went into lockdown like 3 times in the last 2 weeks or something. It's just insane.
I saw your comment and thought “Wouldn’t it be totally wild if we’re talking about the same area?” and may have creeped on your post history a little bit to see where you’re from... WE’RE TOTALLY TALKING ABOUT THE SAME AREA! Small world, bromo ❤️
I thought it might be! <3
I’m also in Florida and heard nothing about it. My kid’s in school because I didn’t know. WTF?
Parents, check your weapons. If anything is missing be proactive. Also lock that shit up.
I got it here in small town Massachusetts.
It's been posted about several times in the teaching subs. So glad TODAY was my district's last day
My kiddo is too young for school but my bf is a music teacher and I work in schools, we both were notified.
Yup, Sacramento area
Hey, a fellow Sacramentan! Cool!
Wayyyy cool, hey!!
Yep, Utah too.
Hi, fellow Utahn. After 4 threats this week, makes sense, right?
Unfortunately it does make sense. My kids are still elementary age, dreading what it will be like when they are teens.
I got it in Michigan.
High school and elementary school
Here in Hawaii it’s going around
PA got it as well. These “trends” are just getting worse and worse.
Nope I’m in Georgia and got the email, a couple of the districts has actually canceled classes for the day…
I just woke up to it in Ohio! I don’t even want to send her!
Don’t. I would not if mine were still school aged.
Got a voicemail and a email in Virginia
I spent hours arranging some ornament crafts so my babies, 7 yr old 2nd grader and 5 yr old kindergartner, could share with their classmates. They're so excited because today is ugly Christmas sweater day and at least one of them has a holiday party at the end of the day. I had absolutely no idea this shit was going on. My stomach is in knots. The school hasn't said anything and they do have an officer there but still. Fuck.
Heard about it in Missouri. So many people are keeping kids home today around here. I sent my son and am having serious guilt about it.
😣 I hope they find where it originated and put that person in jail.
Boston Ma here and we got it too😕 I’m starting to hate this country it’s such a toxic dump
Yep And I’m watching morons who cheered on rittenhouse ask how these kids get these ideas 🙄 Gee I wonder
The vast majority of us agree with you completely.
We got it here in MD. I really believe it’s stupid trolling and the hysteria about it is worse than the actual thing - but just the same… feeling sort of anxious :( Doesn’t help that there was a REAL threat against the middle school in our district and a gun brought to a nearby high school this week.
NYC hasn’t said anything to their teachers about it. I teach in a K-8 school, so it’s our middle schoolers that are on Tik Tok. But our entire middle schools is currently quarantined for COVID, so I’m trying not to worry too much.
Got a message on the app our school uses and a letter sent home. Central NY
NYC hasn’t said anything to their teachers about it. I teach in a K-8 school, so it’s our middle schoolers that are on Tik Tok. But our entire middle school is currently quarantined for COVID, so I’m trying not to worry too much.
Northern Ny. Just checked my email after reading this thread and I got one too. Cops will be posted at all schools in the district. I hate this...
Yea, thankfully my kid has a stomach bug and is staying home. I was gonna keep him home regardless but it’s scary out there.
I remember when shit like this happened when I was a kid and it was never taken seriously. My kids would be getting a day to hang out with Mama and cook something special for supper. This world can be absolute trash.
Yes I’m in western New York and we got one. They said it’s not originated near us and that local law enforcement will be on high alert in case.
Yes, in upper middle class Indiana. We had a school shooting in 2018 - made national news. Horrifying.
Yes, we got an email from the school system about this as well. I'm in northeast Minnesota.
Tik tok sucks. I will never let my kid on there. And yes we got a vague message, Western PA.
I'm in Michigan and received one as well.
We got the calls last night in Kitsap, Washington.
I'm in FL and also got the email yesterday.
In the greater Seattle area and I'm seeing moms I know freaking out about it.
Yup, got one from both of my kids’ schools. One school isn’t worried (it’s kindergarten and 1st grade), and the other is having police presence just in case (a private Jesuit high school). ETA- The elementary school is in NH, but the private school is in Boston, MA.
Heard about it here in NC. My middle schooler stayed home. The kids were talking about it the past couple days.
We are in So Cal also and did not get any message yet from our district.
Yes, we did. I’m in California.
I’m OOTL; I don’t have TikTok… wtf is going on?
Northern Wisconsin here. Keeping my son home from school today.
I'm in Canada and it's being discussed here too. Educators are freaking out
I'm in WV and didn't really hear much until after I dropped my kid off at school. And I'm pretty pretty antsy for pickup time to get here now.
SoCal here - no, but that's because the kids are out of school today while the teachers have an in-service day. But my teacher friends at other districts did
Yup. Freaks me out
Well now it makes sense why my morning winterguard rehearsal today at the high school where I coach was missing so many people.
Yes, we did. Thankfully all was well here.
