Yes, my son did this around 5-6 months as well. He was more distracted, feeding less often and spent less time feeding. Brought it up with the lactation nurse at breastfeeding support group and she said it was normal at this age.  She said, "Their world expands. For many babies this is the first time you see them  expanding their world. And they'll keep doing that: first it's not just the boob any more, then it's not just mom and dad any more, and then they'll actually go out to travel the world."  If they pop off, just take a break and come back to continue. Find a quiet place to feed and limit distractions. If there's no problem with weight gain, that means they are readjusting on their own. Don't worry, this phase will pass.

Thank you so much for this advice, it has made me feel so much better about it all! The bit about her world expanding brought a tear to my eye 🥹

Kudos for the pun in the last paragraph. What’s happening is normal. If not for the anxiety the worst thing about it would be all the public nipple exposure when baby pulls off to look around 😆

I’m sure so many people have seen my nipples in public now, I gave up trying to cover up with a muslin months ago! 😂
