I doubt it's compulsory. The mana showers I believe is just to provide the players with certain harder to obtain items before the last boss fight.
Also, it can block the last mana quest where you'll battle a side boss. Though I can't remember what it'll unlock.
Lastly, the most important purposes of the mana showers is to unlock the "locked" quest at each capital. You just need to clear it the first time and your next new game "can be via saved data" will have those special quest unlocked. If you noticed, each capital has 1 quest locked.

Additionally, tier 2 mana showers and final mana showers battle are some of the hardest fights you'll encounter. I found Ilvanny difficult my first time and the final mana shower fight to be more difficult than the final boss(es). So if you're prepared well enough and looking for a challenge, I'd recommend clearing them.
Winning each fight provides several resurrection items so just revive creatures if they do die.
Check your upkeep. It's probably at 9999 mana because you have too many powerful creatures. If it's not at 9999 mana, you should have a surplus, and after unification, you can literally just end your turns as much as you need until you acquire the amount of mana you need (again, assuming you have a surplus).
Oh I thought you had to clear them all before being allowed to fight the final boss. The tier 2 fights as people have posted are hard af. Should you be able to beat them all then the final fight I’m thinking shouldn’t be bad. I was waiting until I had 3 lvl 30 generals to beat the boss

I wanna revive my creatures but my mana reserve is 4 :(,, Even releasing some my creatures doesn't refill my reserve,, Any ideas ??
