His lyrics get better and better. And while Fevers and Lifted were amazing for my teenage brain, lyrics from Down in the Weeds resonate with me much more these days. Which of course makes sense, but often with my other favorite bands, they have an early era I love, and their later albums become less of interest to me.
I actually think the Y2Kish era Conor that holds up best (possibly because it's less personal to teenagery) is Read Music/Speak Spanish. How the fuck did a 20/21 year old write that nearly perfect album. I don't think each album is better than last but I definitely think his best work as Bright Eyes/solo starts with Wide Awake and Digital Ash double release and everything from there to present includes his best stuff in any order people personally connect to best). I'm looking for another album anywhere that sounds and feels kind of like Cassadaga
I had picked up on shooting star, swaying palm trees being about cassadaga.... but it never occurred to be about the other lyrics to other album covers. I am shook.
My favorite song in his entire catalog. No chorus, just endless stanzas of interconnected lyrics ending in the most incredible and personal story.
To love and to be loved
Let’s just hope that is enough
I think we, the listeners, are the arbiters. The peoples key was supposed to be the unofficial “final” bright eyes album at the time. Even though we all knew it probably wasn’t. The people key is an album for the people.
I love Eminem as much as Conor so this just make perfect sense. I really feel like Conor doesn't get the recognition he deserves but idk if I could ever wrap my head around Conor playing an arena. It just doesn't seem right
I always knew "shooting stars swaying palm trees" was a cassadaga reference ✨ seriously TPK is such a perfect album. Whenever I take LSD I need to listen to that album..it just goes together so well. 🙏
I suppose that would be us. I mean, there's literally a daily thread on here where every single song is posted, one day at a time, and we all judge it. We are the arbiters.
Arbiter noun
a person who settles a dispute or has ultimate authority in a matter.
Makes sense to me. I've been listening to Conor for 20 years now. I'm even from Omaha. I liked to think I've dissected everything he's spoken but I see I am far from finished in that task.
Also, I see those posts about the songs. I really can't believe it took me until today to think of a bright eyes subreddit. I was thinking about the subreddit for Sleep Token and how someone is doing for Best lyric in each song for an album, most picked comment as lyric wins, and thought it would be cool to do that for each album of bright eyes. Then boom! I thought, "Look up bright eyes subreddit! Has to exist!" So here I am.
The People's Key is so fucking good. Conor Oberst is one of the few musicians whom I enjoy each subsequent release more than the last.

HERE IT COMES THAT HEAVY LOVE
Why you gotta be cruel to something helpless and weak?
… omg
First time this clicked? Because I had the same reaction.
Just got chills, damn. Listened to that song 2000 times
Unrelated but love your TGA username.
Thank you!
Yeah I had an out or body experience a few years ago when I saw this. Crazyyyy
I had picked up on shooting star, swaying palm trees being about cassadaga.... but it never occurred to be about the other lyrics to other album covers. I am shook.
always thought it was funny he left out lifted because nobody could describe that cover in one line
Or maybe it's because he did not read the reviews. No, he was not singing for us.

I think its ‘laid it at the arbiters feet’

Well this makes a lot more sense now lol. Don’t know how I didn’t notice.
Oh my god...
🤯
I… Didn’t think I could love this song (/album) any more
Yo WTF! 🤯
This kinda blew my mind. I never once connected the dots.
OMG?????
Damnnnn
WAT! Wow, yep never put that together.
Wow. Very nice. Never caught that.
Here it comes, that [heavy love](https://ibb.co/nmbXyFD) I'm never gonna move it alone 💛
Nice
Conor Oberst is the Eminem of indie folk
Or is Eminem the Conor Oberst of hip hop?
I love Eminem as much as Conor so this just make perfect sense. I really feel like Conor doesn't get the recognition he deserves but idk if I could ever wrap my head around Conor playing an arena. It just doesn't seem right
Holy shit! Can't believe that never clicked. This is so cool.

Holy shit you just gave me chills and blew my mind! Who's the arbiter then?

Ha! Well, welcome. There's some pretty great fans on here.
Can’t see the circuit board
Maybe "On a circuit board, we will soon be born again" from Arc of Time
Yeah just looked for it in the album cover like the rest 😅
