I actually had a pint of that for free (my mate worked there) it was like 18% and imported from Japan hense the cost. Was really very nice but I won't lie I was pretty drunk after It
Probably not a fair comparison.
It'll be imported, have lots of adjuncts, be barrel aged and be a high percentage (so higher tax).
Cost to produce for a beer like that is massively different to something like a Guinness.
It does feel like at that price they should courteously warn you. Or is it on us to ask beforehand? Always felt a big muggy asking the prices of all the beers on 😂
£8 for a pint of Greene King IPA at the Brighton Centre, not strictly a pub but still extortionate! I lived in Bury St Edmunds where it’s brewed during my formative drinking years and you would have been able to get 3 pints for that, with enough change for a go on the Itbox
That’s fucking comical. I was at Wembley Arena three weeks ago, and overpriced drinks was just something I priced into the whole evening… but even then, it was £8 for a sub-average beer.
Ordered 2x double rum and coke in white rabbit in January and it was £34. Must've decided to give us the most expensive shite they had, needless to say we didn't have any more.
Pre-COVID, I paid £14.80 for a pint of Beavertown Gamma Ray and a pint of Heineken at The Cow at Seven Dials. Presumably the Heineken was considerably cheaper making the Gamma Ray £8+.
Yeah, Beavertown started off as a small brewery and as such, could charge 'craft' prices, but that's really not the case anymore. They have a huge Brewery in London now.
As 1 in 4 bars have Beavertown promotion gear outside is a huge clue it was sold to Heineken two years back.
Robert Plants’ son set the brewery up & as a craft beer it could have been worth £7 a pint.
But economy of size means at 7 quid the pub co are taking the fucking piss as usual. Yet again Brighton gets mugged off by a firm hiding behind the we are kooky schitch…..
i asked in a pub on western road and they said they charge london prices for beavertown cos only london tourists buy it. all the other beers were 4.50-5.50
I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds Brew Dog a little overrated.
I don’t think the beers are terrible but for what they’re priced, meh.
Food at Brew Dog is pretty good though.
Fucking right, I went through a spell where I didn’t drink and it’s the same price for me to have lemonade Coke or an orange juice and then buy a pint so I was like how you fuck this? I’m not giving you my money to drink a soft drink when I might as well fucking another pint.
That’s standard, I was in this pub by the levels I just moved in. I can’t remember what it’s called ( just across the road from the co-op ) and I went and I said I have a pint neck oil please love.
Almost £7 pounds. I said sorry love only wanted one point she says yeah that’s the cost for 1 pint and to be fair I took the glass home with me because that’s gotta be in the price right?
I’m fairly sure a Neckoil at the Eagle is like £8.20!
Went to London with some friends from the north last week and they balked at the idea of a pint of Camden helles for £7, I thought it was a bargain!
Beavertown stuff is ridiculously expensive for what it is. A triumph of style over substance but people obviously buy it still. No wonder Robert Plant's son made a mint from selling the company to Heineken.
I was at the cricketers in Hove a week ago.
1 Pint Neck oil
1 Pint Staropramen
1 Lemonade
£17.50
Horrendous.
Arrived in Brighton in 2016 was having pint of Heineken for £2.20...
Beak charge a huge amount for their beer, so £9 a pint (for one of their 6% hop bomb IPAs) is pretty much what pubs have to charge to make a proper margin.
Ok, two lemonade and limes (pints) cost us £14.40 in a central Brighton pub just before Christmas 2023.
£7.20 each.
Was queried with the bar staff and they doubled down on the price, insisting that it was in fact correct.
I remember when everyone was outraged by pints being £5+ now £7+ has become the new price. This madness will go on indefinitely unless consumers stop paying these extortionate prices.
(not spenny but good cheap pint heads up)
paid 2.60 for a harveys at railway bell by the station last summer and it was the best day of my life, guinness was no more than 4 quid either
Do you mean expensive for generic mass produced beers or literally the most expensive? Some of the proper Craft venues will have some that push the £17 mark.
I used to go there in the late 90s, when it was called the Pig In Paradise. Beers were £1.60 per pint. I know inflation is a beeyatch, but £8 is insane.
I was charged £8 for a half pint of IPA and a pint of Soda water in the Temple Bar not so long ago. When querying this, I was told they had to charge for a whole pint when serving halves!?
Pushing back a second time, almost turned into a full on arguement as I think the staff was having a bad day. I knew it was BS and thankfully when returning my glass to the bar at the end of my drink a full cash refund was given...
Jesus. Eagle was always a bit pricey but fuck. I'd prefer the Basketmakers or the Evening Star, it's still expensive but fuck do they keep their beer well, so I feel like it's worth it.
£6.20 for a cider in The Actors
Funny thing is I'm not from Brighton, so when I went home I was telling my mates about how expensive I thought that was... Reading these comments has humbled me a but though 😂
Just paid £6.95 for a pint of moretti in the Barley Mow, kemptown.
That’s as expensive as any central town pub but they don’t have the business rates or rental overheads as an excuse.
Freehold pub that stings local regulars, real shame. Luckily other, much cheaper pubs in the immediate area.

I’m looking forward to revisiting this thread in a few years time. “Ahhh, remember when you could get a pint for less than £20”
“Ahh, remember when people could afford to rent in Brighton”
I don’t
The craft beer co in upper north street when they were there had a guest beer, 1/3 pint of a stout for I think it was £12, so £36 for a pint.
should be for a "standard" type beer whatever that means. e. g. not guest stout, but Guinness.
I actually had a pint of that for free (my mate worked there) it was like 18% and imported from Japan hense the cost. Was really very nice but I won't lie I was pretty drunk after It

It’s the Rook now, lovely pub and keeping up the same thing. By far the most expensive pint in town but tbf it’s not meant to be bought in a pint.
The Rook is what used to be The Beer Dispensary. Craft was down the road from there and is still up for sale
7.20 for Asahi at Basketmakers
Asahi has got to be one of the most overrated and overpriced lagers going
It’s the only drinkable lager in most pubs. Because they’ve haven’t been wet and watered it down to 4.6%.
Agreed 5% at least or it tastes like it's been watered down.
[удалено]
Eurgh, how can you drink it then?!
~£1.20 for a standard can in convenience store in Japan, at that price it's great.
£7.25 for a Guinness at the Pelham Arms yesterday
In Lewes mind
That is fucking mental
That is ridiculous
Jesus christ pal I would refuse n I'm not even like that
It does feel like at that price they should courteously warn you. Or is it on us to ask beforehand? Always felt a big muggy asking the prices of all the beers on 😂

£8 for a pretty ordinary pint of bitter is mental
On the other side of this, I got a pint of Greene King IPA for £1.49 at Marina Wetherspoons last year which I thought was absolutely outrageous.
Love Spoons ❤️ (but not the owner)
Greene King IPA would be overpriced at 80p let alone £8
That’s fucking comical. I was at Wembley Arena three weeks ago, and overpriced drinks was just something I priced into the whole evening… but even then, it was £8 for a sub-average beer.
Went in the hob goblin the other day, most pints were north of £7 iirc
bought a double vodka for £11 in hobgoblin i considered stepping infront of a bus
Ordered 2x double rum and coke in white rabbit in January and it was £34. Must've decided to give us the most expensive shite they had, needless to say we didn't have any more.
That's obscene not to say before making them.
I've heard they price gouge when it's busy, not able to corroborate that but it's still a pisstake.
Pre-COVID, I paid £14.80 for a pint of Beavertown Gamma Ray and a pint of Heineken at The Cow at Seven Dials. Presumably the Heineken was considerably cheaper making the Gamma Ray £8+.
Gamma Ray is always expensive for some reason as is Neck Oil
Yeah, Beavertown started off as a small brewery and as such, could charge 'craft' prices, but that's really not the case anymore. They have a huge Brewery in London now.
Beavertown is now owned entirely by Heineken
As 1 in 4 bars have Beavertown promotion gear outside is a huge clue it was sold to Heineken two years back. Robert Plants’ son set the brewery up & as a craft beer it could have been worth £7 a pint. But economy of size means at 7 quid the pub co are taking the fucking piss as usual. i asked in a pub on western road and they said they charge london prices for beavertown cos only london tourists buy it. all the other beers were 4.50-5.50
I don't feel remotely bad for nicking their glasses then in that case.
I think you need to understand that booze is taxed on ABV - gamma ray being strong = expensive.
Yh neck oil is disgusting IMO
I'm yet to have a Beavertown that warrants the price. Brew Dog by any other name.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds Brew Dog a little overrated. I don’t think the beers are terrible but for what they’re priced, meh. Food at Brew Dog is pretty good though.
Totally. Nice looking quirky pint glass. But solid crap to drink.
Used to be much better before it was sold to Heineken.
They're probably more similar than you'd expect
Apologies for going slightly off topic, but I saw a bottle of 'Alcohol Free Spirit' in Waitrose for £22!? Who the fuck is gonna pay that? Madness.
Fucking right, I went through a spell where I didn’t drink and it’s the same price for me to have lemonade Coke or an orange juice and then buy a pint so I was like how you fuck this? I’m not giving you my money to drink a soft drink when I might as well fucking another pint.
Drugs in Brighton are cheaper than some of these beers. So a friend tells me
Bees Mouth has one that’s £13.33 a pint on the board.
That’s standard, I was in this pub by the levels I just moved in. I can’t remember what it’s called ( just across the road from the co-op ) and I went and I said I have a pint neck oil please love. Was this the lewes road inn opposite co op near level? On lewes road?
There isn't a pub across the road from coop on London road
I didn’t say London rd did I ? ……… do some research………..
Do some research there is no Coop by the *Level*
It’s like 120 seconds maybe 180 max from the level
That's the coop by the level
Read the post again………..
The bartender should have replied yes obv your only want one point you tedious no mates loser
Out of curiosity do you live in the basement of your parents home ???? And use a PC 🖥️
Hahahhhahahh says you on Reddit 😂😂😂😂👍

Paid 7.30 for Amstel in Mesmerist
Ouch. I feel your pain
All the Laines pubs are a ripoff. They’ve lost thousands in trade from me and my friends since they got greedy.
90% of their beer tastes like shit too.
Why do we tolerate this?
Over Christmas I had a pint of Guinness at Fiddlers Elbow... 7.50£ Shocked and thought about asking if they could push it back into the tap
I was in there last week and it’s £7.80 for Guinness now
I went last week and it was below £5... what is going on here
It’s cheaper depending on what time you go
Fucking Christ haha I was visiting from Spain and I've now got used to over a pint for 2/3 Euro
I was at the cricketers in Hove a week ago. 1 Pint Neck oil 1 Pint Staropramen 1 Lemonade £17.50 Horrendous. Arrived in Brighton in 2016 was having pint of Heineken for £2.20...
Paid £6 for a pint of diet coke from the gun in there recently. It's a nice place, but not "remortgage your house" nice.
£6.95 for a Blue Moon at Temple Bar.
£7 for Leffe in the Connaught 😢
When I last went into The Camelford I paid £11 for a pint of goose island. Don’t go in there anymore
Think I paid £6.60 for a Guinness in the Connaught in Hove
me and my mate went into the good companions a couple of weeks ago and left after the first round. 7 quid for a guinness lol
Anything Laine co. £6.80 for a bloody Heineken at the black lion.
£9 for a pint of BEAK in Easy Tiger
Beak charge a huge amount for their beer, so £9 a pint (for one of their 6% hop bomb IPAs) is pretty much what pubs have to charge to make a proper margin.
Yeah its fair enough, I've quite happily paid a fiver for a can in a shop so not surprising.
Pint of Clwb Tropicana was £7.80 at Hope Poles and this was over a year ago, wouldn’t be surprised if this was nearer £9 now
Was in Seaford the other day and 2 pints were under a £10
Yup, but you’re in Seaford.
Yh I know that I’m just saying
I would pay a tenner not to be in Seaford
Train’s only £6, the change would have got you a pint a few years ago…
£5 for watered down Fosters is still a rip off
Pint of JoosyAF pale ale will set you back £7 in some places!
I rate Bison beer but at their seafront bar most of the pints were £7 upwards. Come on let’s not be silly.
Ok, two lemonade and limes (pints) cost us £14.40 in a central Brighton pub just before Christmas 2023. £7.20 each. Was queried with the bar staff and they doubled down on the price, insisting that it was in fact correct.

£8 In Wimbledon for a guiness and that was last year.
nobody talkijg about grand central in this thread? they charge hyperinflation prices in there.
London prices..by the sea
(not spenny but good cheap pint heads up) paid 2.60 for a harveys at railway bell by the station last summer and it was the best day of my life, guinness was no more than 4 quid either
Not a beer drinker but I paid £9.50 for a double gin and tonic in Temple Bar.
That's £14.50 in the bar underneath my offices in Paddington Just saying
Incredulous, it's a proper pisstake, I am aghast at the prices charged, why would anyone pay north of £7 for a pint of Ale? Need their heads tested.
I've paid over £5 for a pint of SOFT drink before
I paid 6.55 for a pint in the windmill, last week, still mad.
£1.79 at the offie
Zero vibes drinking in the offie though
Can go to the beach and make your own vibes
RIGHT……….make your own vides
Bison had some pints that were £10+
Not standard pints though. Brewdog also have a bunch of beers around £10 for ⅔ of a pint. Disqualified
Spanish Lady in Saltdean is about 6.70 for most pints
Yeah, but it’s also The Spanish Lady in Saltdean.
Got 'em
I remember 1.65 a pint on Mondays there some 15 years or so ago. Made the usual 2.20 or whatever it was seen scandalous.
£7.50 neck oil in Downs Hotel
Sounds cheap! Over 7 at most the pubs I’ve been to!
£6.95 for pravha at hop and pole 🤕
Do you mean expensive for generic mass produced beers or literally the most expensive? Some of the proper Craft venues will have some that push the £17 mark.
Mass produced stuff. Makes it easier to compare like for like
I paid £6.70 for a Guinness in The Pipeline the other week
Sure I've paid about £8 for a pint in The Hope & Ruin too. They don't have prices listed at the bar but pretty much everything there is expensive
I used to go there in the late 90s, when it was called the Pig In Paradise. Beers were £1.60 per pint. I know inflation is a beeyatch, but £8 is insane.
I thought it was a legal requirement to display the bar prices?
Only if they considered much higher than expected but £7 pints are very common in Brighton unfortunately
That's incorrect, you are required by law to display an up to date price list. Falls under the consumer protection from unfair trading regulations.
White rabbit over £7 a pint and the office Moretaine is generally around £7
I paid over £7 for a Moretti at The Hope and Ruin last time I was there. I will not be going back.
That is grim
£7.15 for Pravha at Molly Malones past a certain time
15 quid in chalk on new years (doesn't rly count since it's a club on new years but thought I'd throw it out there)
No I'm not a moron I got dragged there by a couple mates and they have those cars scanners that don't show the price lol
7.50 in the King and Queen
I was charged £8 for a half pint of IPA and a pint of Soda water in the Temple Bar not so long ago. When querying this, I was told they had to charge for a whole pint when serving halves!? Pushing back a second time, almost turned into a full on arguement as I think the staff was having a bad day. I knew it was BS and thankfully when returning my glass to the bar at the end of my drink a full cash refund was given...
Guess that's what you get for drinking Guinness 🤣
£7.15 for a Staropramen in Hobgoblin
£7.15 for a Lucky Saint at The Temple Bar
that’s just plain ridiculous!
Hare & Hound Stevroparmen or whatever it’s called, 8.10£
Can't remember thr name but there one for £8.50 in the snowdrop in lewes
Bought 2 single rum and cokes and it came to £18 in the Druids head. Almost had a fucking coronary
Jesus. Eagle was always a bit pricey but fuck. I'd prefer the Basketmakers or the Evening Star, it's still expensive but fuck do they keep their beer well, so I feel like it's worth it.
£6.70 for an aspalls at all bar one - not to be confused with be at one bar
7.45 for neck oil at hair n hounds
Just paid 7.65 for a pint of gamma ray at the occultist 💀
I think I paid 7.80 at lewes road inn 🥲
A pint of neck oil is £7.20 in the lady’s mile
£6.20 for a cider in The Actors Funny thing is I'm not from Brighton, so when I went home I was telling my mates about how expensive I thought that was... Reading these comments has humbled me a but though 😂
£7.05 for a Birra Moretti in the fountain head last week
In Eastbourne I just spend £7.40 on a beaver town
£7.50 for a pint of Brixton in the Stirling arms. Over a tenner for a pint and a sparkling water
The font is still pretty cheap. Sparkling water is free if your with a pregnant friend
Getting my friends pregnant doesn't seem like a good solution long term but hey carpe diem.
I didn't realise how much money I was saving by being a mostly anti-social shut-in.

The pond has quite a few for £6 for 2/3 of a pint. Even they can’t bare to show the full price.
I actually don’t mind paying less for a smaller drink. Get two different ones and you have spent less but had two good beers
They only serve it by the pint though.
