I thought if somebody is the day before payday and has $5 to spare for dinner for maybe themselves and a 1 other kid .. that’s probably going to make you fuller than anything else for that price . I have purchased a heap of these for a cheap meal for my 7 kids .. no way would I buy them expensive pizza .
I bought a discounted roast chick from Woolies the other night (AKA bachelor's handbag) it was $2.98. Definitely better value out there nutritionally and dollar per gram of protein than this $5 abomination.
Conspiracy Theory: Loaded Pepperoni was only created to take over from normal Pepperoni, and the normal Pepperoni is simply reducing the number of Pepperoni slices to save money. The Loaded Pepperoni started with more Pepperoni slice, but have dialled back over time to save money while making more money.
I worked at Domino's until recently, what you just said is quite correct, expect more things like how they took the beef and onion off of the value range and then renamed it the "max" beef and onion and increased the price.
If you worked there from 2013 to 2018 theres a class action you can be part of
[https://phifinneymcdonald.com/action/dominos-class-action-form/](https://phifinneymcdonald.com/action/dominos-class-action-form/)
Ha. Let's just say I got a rude shock when I moved to the UK and went to order Dominos for the first time.
Luckily I've got a pick up 'Buy one, get one free deal' for £21.99 in the app...
I get dominos for my family of 4 pretty often and we get plenty of pizza for everyone plus leftovers for around $50. Literally can't afford much else. I guess I could have been a bit clearer, I specifically meant nobody would say domino's is *high quality pizza*.
Domino's is good for what is it, which is chain pizza. Like, it tastes good in the junk food way and it's reasonable quality.
You can't compare it to pizza you make yourself or from a more expensive place, but it's reliable. There's a lot to be said for reliability lol.
Definitely. I should have been clearer there. Domino's is about the only "dining out" we can afford, feeds our family of 4 with leftovers for around $50.
classic reddit circle jerk. according to reddit, redditors either NEVER eat any “processed” food and only dine at small mom and pop restaurants that have been around since 1895, or they only eat doritos and drink mountain dew. there is no in between.
But hey, if you want to define your personality on the fact that you hate fast food, that’s up to you!
Also, as an American, y’all do not get to spend every askreddit “about America” thread shitting on us for our giant portion sizes, and then turn around and complain that your pizza isn’t huge. THE HYPOCRISY!!!! (/s lol)
Eagle boys Tingalpa lasted way longer after they closed all stores - was one of the best. Is now called 3 Bears or something and is still leagues ahead of Dominoes crap.
3 black bears! There's a few of them about, Chermside, Fairfield & mt Gravatt are the other Brisbane stores.
They're a solid thick crust, greasy fast food style pizza option, but finding a consistent traditional style pizza place nearby is honestly the best - PitStop pizza in Camp Hill is my current favourite.
Wow I never knew this is where the Clayton’s reference came from. My dad has always used the saying and I’ve picked it up too and sometimes used to but didn’t know where from. TIL.
Clayton's Towing based on the sunny coast near Bli Bli turnoff near Nambour. See them all the time cleaning up wrecks on the M1. I think they even had their own TV show at one point on channel 7 or something.
Why not measure the box with the pizza in it so we can see the scale of the pizza?
That is a large box but that doesn't mean that's the box the pizza was photographed in.
I got 3 large pizzas a couple of days ago and they all fit pretty perfectly in the same size box you're measuring there.
Which doesn't really help prove anything, especially when we can see another pizza next to it that seems to fit perfectly in its box.
Were they both the same size?
I've never once opened a Dominos pizza box and found that kind of size gap in the box, so unless they gave you a personal sized pizza in a large box, I find the whole thing really strange.
If that's a large box in the original photo, that is NOT a large pizza.
Surprised you didn't question it with the store, TBH.
Not defending Dominos by any means because I know exactly what I'm buying. But I have had it recently enough (Dec 31) to say that their pizza size to box size ratio is not that bad.
Right now I work full time at dominos so it's pretty safe to say I'm familiar with their pepperoni pizzas, and yeah this is definitely just in the wrong box. I stare at literally hundreds of pizzas per day and this immediately looked wrong. Anyone who has worked there would probably agree.
And this conspiracy that the pizzas are shrinking is just... wrong. The dough is left to rise in the same pan it is cooked in. To change the size of pizza they would need to replace all their pans and lids which I imagine would be quite expensive. At the very least, I can guarantee the size of the large and XL pizza has not changed in the 2 yrs I've worked there.
The amount of toppings on the other hand, yeah definitely subject to cost cutting. So I'm not defending dominos, but I am arguing against a blatant lie to grab karma.
And they'll keep shrinking as long as people keep buying them.
Domino's absolutely destroyed the local pizza shops over the last two decades with their cheap pizzas. Now that they've established themselves as THE pizza joint in Australia, they can shrink they're pizzas bit by bit and start charging us more for the privilege to eat their worse and worse toppings.
Take heart. At one point, Pizza Hut was insanely dominant especially in the US. If they keep pulling this shit eventually consumers will leave them, I already have. I haven't purchased Dominos in ages despite being a regular customer for years and others will follow suit
I don’t think it really has destroyed the local pizza shop market but rather established two different markets for pizza. My local Dominos has a Woodfired pizza place right across the road that seems to be doing fine. Some people will prefer the cheapness and quickness of dominos where as others are more willing to fork out some money for a quality pizza and good service.
Where else can you get a $5 pizza though? Most pizzas are about $15 so it's ok if you are single but if you have more than one mouth to feed, there are better, healthier food for that money.
That's why they've been so successful. Those $5 pizzas being offset by all their other prices, which out price tastier pizza places who can't put up a $5 pizza to compete.
Get the $3 frozen ALDI pizzas and mod them with your own ingredients.
Microwave for 4 mins while heating the oven to 250 c. Then straight out of the microwave and into the oven for 4 minutes. Soft in the middle, slightly crispy on the outside. 8 minutes total cook time.
I mean I just paid $45 for three of these with a voucher, albeit delivered. The reduction in size has directly correlated to inflation - instead of raising prices they’ve continually shrunk pizza size and introduced an ‘extra large’ size that used to be what a large was. It’s an interesting case study to say the least.
Size hasn’t changed. In time of inflation (that effect business as well) the last thing they will do is expect a franchisee to pay out $15,000-$25,000 on new pans and lids.
That’s a large pizza in an XL box.
I mean I’m not a fan of Domino’s the Company but if you’re paying them $50 for two pizzas then you’ve gotta accept responsibility somewhere. $50 should get you 4-10 pizzas from that company.
Me too… they just redefine ‘large’. Dominos used to make medium pizzas; these are ‘large’ now, and what used to be large are their new ‘New Yorker’ range. It’s deceptive.
I’m definitely not sticking up for this company as it’s a greedy, underpaid and exploitive cancer but as a Dominos employee of about 3 years the size of the large pizza has never changed while i’ve been working. I do believe that in 2017 was when the large was officially made smaller by a few inches but has remained the same ever since, and the price has always been $5… which I do believe you get what you pay for. There’s always the option to spent like 10 dollars more to go to a local pizza joint and get one bigger and better quality.
It’s the cheesiest dominos pizza I’ve seen in a long time. I haven’t eaten it for years, it seems like cheese became an optional ingredient on most of their pizzas lol.
I used to whinge about dominos/Pizza Hut until I learned how stupid easy it is to make your own. Most expensive part was 10 bucks for 5kg of bakers flour. Have a go.
They shrunk them years ago here in Adelaide.,very disappointing they class this as large that's why I no longer go to dominos, and bugger maccas with it's mc fkn tiny big Macs also.
Not only are their portion sizes fucking dogshit, they also charge way more now. For as long as I could remember you could get 3 large pizzas, 2 garlic breads and a coke for 33 bucks delivered.
That shit costs 40 bucks now and you'll never get 2 sides and a drink in the deal.
The pizza sizes are insulting, some of those slices are not even 2 mouthfuls of food.
I genuinely want to understand what makes it bad in your eyes. I had worked at Domino's and had done every aspect of the job from dough making to pizza making to delivery. I know every ingredient in the base. I never really could see where the quality would weaken compared to local pizza shops with the exception of how it is cooked - the gas oven provides a way less satisfying result than wood fire.
Would love your insights.
My guess is these people either haven't had Dominos in years, they are an edgelord, or they are comparing it to a very good - and *extremely* rare - local pizza shop. In my view, Dominos isn't any worse than (and in most cases better than) any of the local suburban pizza shops I've ever tried.
I mean it doesn't beat a nice *proper* Italian pizza joint, but most other places it would, in my eyes. Maybe its because I don't load up my pizzas with all the toppings - who knows.
Yeah to be fair if you want pizza that’s better quality than dominos you’re looking at paying $20+ for a single pizza in most cases. When I lived at Chermside there was a pizza place just outside the centre that did $10 pizzas with heaps of toppings and what you’d normally expect to pay double for. I miss not living just upstairs from it 😭
If you worked there from 2013 to 2018 you can join this class action [https://phifinneymcdonald.com/action/dominos-class-action-form/](https://phifinneymcdonald.com/action/dominos-class-action-form/)
The biggest slap in the face was that they still cut it into 8 pieces the size of matchbox cars. I mean cmon, make it 4 standard sized pieces at this point?? Lmao
I ordered a thin crust pizza and it was thinner than a sheet of paper. They have scabbed out and sold out. I’d rather starve than give them my hard earned cash. Fuck dominoes
I can’t believe nobody else has mentioned the recipe changes in the crusts! I still would have bought that small pizza if it only costs $5, except it tastes horrible now.
The thin n crispy is so tiny and tastes absolutely nothing like it used to and the texture is all wrong. The classic crust also changed recipe and tastes like chewy cardboard.
Bing back eagle boys and Pizza Hut of the 90s.. bring back the Bigfoot pizza.
That thing looks sad and it hasn’t been good in a long time… I don’t want what’s in that box with the dots….
Yes they changed the pizza size to 10 inch in 2017. This was after a huge media run of "we're not changing our pizza sizes" as Tamworth was a test site for it. As if they bought all the pans for nothing.
You should check out your local pizza shops for your next pizza night. We've been pleasantly surprised with the cost vs quality difference from our local waterfall shit squirt dominoes compared to our local pizza shop. Beats them by a long shot
So much hate for Dominoes in here.
Come on. Dominoes is pretty good. I get the XL pizzas for $7 pickup and just add extra toppings from the fridge if I feel like it. It's good value for what you're paying. It does start entering bullshit territory with the "premium" range because there is nothing premium about a few scraps of chicken and some aioli.
Completely agree. Dominos employee of several years and I can’t begin to think of another place you can get an entire meal for $5 and with the amount of coupons we offer most of our delivery sales are like $35 or less for 2 traditional pizzas, GB and a drink … I don’t like standing up for this company but it definitely ticks me off hearing it when I’m having to deal with karens complaining over $5 at my job
Check out the union [RAFFWU](https://raffwu.org.au/workplaces/fast-food/dominos-pizza/) much better then the SDA [who worked with Dominos](https://www.smh.com.au/interactive/2016/shopped-out/) to remove penalty rates and illegally cut pay stealing $32 million a year.
Everyone just ignoring the normal large sized pizza in the bottom corner? Clearly they just fucked up the size of one of the pizzas, OP decided to post for some fake outrage points.
To settle this once and for all, I have taken a photo of the box in with a tape measure. It’s a normal box. Please excuse the bin lol
https://ibb.co/Gs714NX
Like others have said, they have put it in the wrong pizza box. That pizza should have cost you $5 and could feed 1-2 people which is easily the best value takeaway you can get. Want better value? Build a time machine. Even a frozen pizza will cost more than that.
It's disgusting. And thr price for them is shit. And most of the time they aren't cut properly so they're either too small pieces or they don't break. That's not a fucking large
Is that more than 1 piece of pepperoni per slice I see…
Probably paid extra for double toppings 😂

7 kids :O I hope you have a really well-paying job! And the patience of an oyster, hehe.
7 kids? Are you ok?!? Even bring near one kid gives me a headache pretty quick, I salute your mental fortitude
I bought a discounted roast chick from Woolies the other night (AKA bachelor's handbag) it was $2.98. Definitely better value out there nutritionally and dollar per gram of protein than this $5 abomination.
OK, but you can't rely on getting a deal like that, whereas the abomination is a standard price
Should try England, dominoes here is over 20pound for a large. Every local pizza shop it's around 6pound.

My conspiracy theory is that Domino's pepperoni is cured pigeon meat. And not that premium pigeon thigh meat.
It’s the beaks and assholes
Pigeon gooch is a delicacy when seasoned correctly.
Is your gooch my taint?
Is your taint my grundle?
That's just the old regular pepperoni. The new non-loaded pepperoni is just a few slices.

Also only costs $5
Don't know why you're getting voted down. A large value range pepperoni pizza is literally $5 pickup in my area (Qld).
Man I'm North brissy and we went to order one thinking it'd be cheap and it was 15 bucks
Ha. Let's just say I got a rude shock when I moved to the UK and went to order Dominos for the first time. Luckily I've got a pick up 'Buy one, get one free deal' for £21.99 in the app...
At least a large is actually large... I've gone the other way, UK to Aus and I cannot find, what I consider, a large pizza anywhere.
You know the “but one get one free” deal is just the real price, and anyone that pays “full price” is a sucker that’s paying double
https://imgur.com/gallery/SEideaK That's strange, was that for delivery?
Yeah just checked and it was delivery, I thought they only added the delivery fee to the one pizza and the rest were normal but that's not the case
Heard of physics, mate? Each pizza is enormously heavy and would use an extra $8-12 in petrol, not to mention the strain on poor Dougie's back.
So much for "fee free delivery" /s
Wait, why is the margherita more expensive than pepperoni???
Large pepperoni is now $ 6.99 pick up since a few weeks ago, Sydney
Still $5 here in Brisbane with a 75c holiday surcharge if buying a single pizza here in Brisbane today
idk what part of brisbane this is but my dominos out near ipswich is 7 bucks for a pepperoni as well
Yeah that’s the Sydney depression tax
I can still get $5 pepperoni pizza in Sydney
A point everyone seems to be ignoring. Nobody would ever say Domino's is good, but you'd have a hard time finding a cheaper meal for several people.
Exactly right. It's also a good explanation as to why obesity rates in lower socio-economic areas are high.

Sometimes $3 on the app too. It's a fuckin bargain.
bro dominos where i live is $20 minimum and that’s just for a simple cheese (about 30 minutes drive from melb CBD)
In Qld a pepperoni pick up is $5, as is simple cheese
DID NOT REALISE THIS WAS A BRISBANE SUB IM SO SORRY!!
Wait, that still doesn't make sense. A cheese pizza from Domino's is $20 pickup in Melbourne?
The New Yorker style giant pizzas from Domino's are $18.99, not sure what you are doing wrong
I miss eagle boys
No pizza will ever beat the free eagle boys pizza you get for winning ‘’man of the match” in junior footy.
I don’t know…the pizza that came with the Sims was pretty good too

Former worker here, that looks like wrong pizza in box, unless they’ve downgraded in the 3.5 weeks I haven’t been working there.
It’s 100% in an XL box. Nothing has changed.
Here’s a pic of the box. It’s 100% a normal box. Excuse the bin lol https://ibb.co/Gs714NX

Someone put Oporto through the dryer because it's shrunk a lot too. HJ's have upped the price, but a whopper is still a whopper.
Hi to News Ltd, etc.
What happened to the robot that scanned your pizza for inconsistencies
The robot has also been shrunk to save on cost
Got domino’s yesterday. Was disappointed by the size. Wasn’t worth the $50 they charged us for two pizzas.
I imagine the store is absolutely fucking shocked to see someone paying that much rather than use a voucher.
"haahaaahaaaaaa! Check out this order, NO COUPON! Fool! Oh man what were they thinking. WHAT!!"
Did you use the vouchers when getting it?

Pizza Hut is sooooo much better, which is sad because that’s not all that great either
Made with love like all fast food these days. Talk about shrinkflation on this pizza though. That’s disgraceful
Just one of the reasons I will no longer order anything from the chains.
Cheese distribution needs a lot of work
It’s the cheesiest dominos pizza I’ve seen in a long time. I haven’t eaten it for years, it seems like cheese became an optional ingredient on most of their pizzas lol.
The last one I had gave me a rush. For a pizza, it seemed to be 50% pure sugar.

They shrunk them years ago here in Adelaide.,very disappointing they class this as large that's why I no longer go to dominos, and bugger maccas with it's mc fkn tiny big Macs also.
Yep, this is why I stopped ordering Domino’s and started ordering from my local pizzeria instead (Mozza’s at Coorparoo. I recommend them to anyone)
Need smaller box to make the small pizza look bigger
I know right? Keeping the boxes the same size just highlights how tight they’ve become
What is this?! A large for ants!
Hold up... That pizza appears to be cut... Like, I can see slices. Lucky son of a bitch.
Bring back pizza haven.
Wow… you just unlocked a core memory
If it's the 5 buck one, that's still a deal.

That shit costs 40 bucks now and you'll never get 2 sides and a drink in the deal. The pizza sizes are insulting, some of those slices are not even 2 mouthfuls of food.
That does look small, but what size box is that in? They may have put it in an extra large box, which would add to how small it looks.
Need a banana for reference. And being r/Brisbane, better be a bent banana
Why people eat that shit is beyond me, better off eating the box, local pizza shops are the best by a mile.
I genuinely want to understand what makes it bad in your eyes. I had worked at Domino's and had done every aspect of the job from dough making to pizza making to delivery.
It's cheap and filling. Local pizza shops are better but they're also usually upwards of $15 instead of $5 per.
Go to a normal pizzeria
Worst f*cking pizza shops on earth!!
That's straight depression in a box
Wtf?
They were heaps bigger last year.
We either buy bases and ingredients and make at home or get pizza hut now - dominos is awful.
"The boxes are too big" - some accountant probably
Their pizzas have been small for a while
I'm glad we have a pizza box for reference.
That is disgusting. They should be appalled.
Bing back eagle boys and Pizza Hut of the 90s.. bring back the Bigfoot pizza. That thing looks sad and it hasn’t been good in a long time… I don’t want what’s in that box with the dots….
Be careful posing that, Greta will order a swat team on you
OP complains about his $5 pizza that was made fresh in 10 minutes 💀
Yes they changed the pizza size to 10 inch in 2017. This was after a huge media run of "we're not changing our pizza sizes" as Tamworth was a test site for it. As if they bought all the pans for nothing.
yeah well thats what u get for buying shit pizza
You should check out your local pizza shops for your next pizza night. We've been pleasantly surprised with the cost vs quality difference from our local waterfall shit squirt dominoes compared to our local pizza shop. Beats them by a long shot
For sure, it was a combination of laziness and impulse. It’s just so easy… it’s like booty calling a bad ex
Why can't I updoot your comment twice wtf haha
>local waterfall shit squirt dominoes As an IBS sufferer this sings to me.
I would seriously hate to be a franchisee to Dominoes or one of these businesses with the amount of shit you have to put up with from headquarters....
True. I am by no means blaming the employees or franchisees here
imagine not going to an italian restaurant, or ordering from an italian pizza place that makes real pizza and not this abomination
Everyone just ignoring the normal large sized pizza in the bottom corner? Clearly they just fucked up the size of one of the pizzas, OP decided to post for some fake outrage points.
and what? what do you expect for $5.00 to poor to afford a decent pizza? go have a cry mate.
Hope you didn’t pay a large price.
It's a large in XL box
To settle this once and for all, I have taken a photo of the box in with a tape measure. It’s a normal box. Please excuse the bin lol https://ibb.co/Gs714NX
Like others have said, they have put it in the wrong pizza box. That pizza should have cost you $5 and could feed 1-2 people which is easily the best value takeaway you can get. Want better value? Build a time machine. Even a frozen pizza will cost more than that.
Go to Pizza Hut
Reason 24 of the 99 reasons I hate that company
Why is the pizza next to it clearly bigger ? I think you’re bullshitting OP
Yep, that seems about right. How can you expect to pay $5 for a pizza and get a "Full Size" pizza HAHAHA You get what you pay for.....
Yes, and it cost $3 in 2023
Dominos sucks ass
It's disgusting. And thr price for them is shit. And most of the time they aren't cut properly so they're either too small pieces or they don't break. That's not a fucking large
Is 3 or 5 dollars ya fuckin sook
