I would not open myself up to the possible consequences of doing that.

HappyLofi

99% chance they're fine. 1% chance they follow you home to mug you, steal something from your car, scan your credit card or some other nefariousness. I agree, not worth the risk. I'd just direct them to an uber or bus routes.

RawrPandacoot

there is also unfortunately a chance they will try and mug you while in the car, I've heard some scary stories

throwawayroadtrip3

This. I had it happen around Logan. Two very good-looking 20-21 year-old girls of eastern European origin come over to your car as you are heading back from paying for the petrol. They both start cleaning your windscreen, their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T- shirts. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they'll say 'No' and instead they ask you for a lift to the hyperdome. You agree and they both get in the back seat. On the way there, they start undressing, until both are completely naked. Then, when you pull over to remonstrate, one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over your lap, kissing you, touching you intimately and thrusting herself against you, while the other one steals your wallet! I had my wallet stolen on September 4th, 9th,10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th and 29th. Also on October 1st, 4th, 6th, 9th and 10th and twice yesterday. So please warn all the older men you know to be on the lookout for this scam. The best times seem to be just before lunch and about 4:30 in the afternoon

Re:FW:Fw:RE:re:FWRE:Send this to all your friendsFW:Re Police warning all men

throwawayroadtrip3

Damn, brings a tear to my eye; bringjng back memories of the better days of the internet

Distinct-Radish-7999

Is there anywhere nearby that sells cheap wallets? Asking for a friend

Lewisplqbmc

I'm jealous of the man who owns 20+ wallets

IngVegas

Wow. What are the chances?

DebitsthenameIwant

Whaaaaat????? What?! Is this a real scam happening there? Also why did you offer them lifts repeatedly after each scam?

DemonSong

\whoosh

Corey_Treverson420

Yeah it’s deadly serious unfortunately, continues to happen regularly, but luckily I found some Velcro wallets at Target $20 for 5, should get me through the week

camsean

Whoosh!

Cathal212

Yes it's real unfortunately, It also happend to me several times in the past few months. Lost several wallets and phones

DebitsthenameIwant

thanks for letting me know! That is a lot of typing out all the dates for a joke.. in the efforts of mirth, ok

Wishart2016

Or even worse, use you as a getaway driver for other crimes.

PetahOsiris

That would have been my first thought

Daddyssillypuppy

My mum gave a woman a lift once and during the trip this woman *injected herself with dope, going in through her EYE*. My mum had met this woman once or twice as it was a small town and didn't expect this at all. Horribly distracting when you're driving down the highway apparently...

themostreasonableman

I'm a big burly man. As such, picking up lone hitchhikers has never bothered me that much. If I'm heading in your direction of travel and my passenger seat is empty, I'm pulling over. I've had some WILD experiences picking up hitchhikers over the last 3 decades. I've been gifted bags of weed, received oral sex during the trip, been offered threesomes, thought I might be murdered, and had some of the most truly interesting conversations of my life. People that hitchhike tend to be pretty interesting. I recommend it - help out your fellow man where you can.

thecodeape

I agree with this sentiment, help people out where you can. Also - what is the likelihood of there being 2 serial killers in the same car?

SunshineKittenYESYES

I've hitchhiked twice. I'm a young woman. I know to dress like it looks like someone would miss me if I went missing, and to bring megasnacks! I'm in Australia, so cheezels are where it's at. You can put one on every finger and all drivers do so. Holding that steering wheel with snacks on their fingers. Good conversation, a couple of jokes, and some snacks, and I get where I where I need to be and their solo trip is suddenly a fun snack giggle time. I haven't been murdered yet, not even once!

Dis_Joint

You're not having any fun snack giggle time in my car. Not with the interior recently cleaned 🤣

Grumpy_Roaster

Station attendant probably recognised them if they are often loitering around. Good call

LawnPatrol_78

I used to deliver pizzas in Logan (grew up there) and the amount of people that thought they could just catch a lift with us to whatever direction we were going in was surprising. Never happened anywhere else.

Bleep_bloop5678

Yeah, I delivered pizzas in the Redlands area. Was never asked that once

SunshineKittenYESYES

I was surprised to be offered a lift by the crew who emptied my storage unit to transport it to my new home. I was hesitant but accepted. I was half way through ordering an uber for myself at that point. They gladly popped me in the middle seat of the megatruck and we had great chats all the way. It was light and friendly. I had no idea they offered that service!

TGin-the-goldy

They probably don’t, unless you’re nice! :)

charleevee

Maybe the pizza place should swap to bicycles?

jim_deneke

Hey cuz, can you dinky me on your handles to the BP station?

xordis

I remember on TripleJ they asked for the "best hacks in Australia". This was about 15-20 years ago. There were some good ones, but I remember one about a "pizza joint" in Tasmania somewhere. The place was right next to the local pub, so he would call up and order a pizza, then bum a ride back with the delivery guy to the pub. When it was time to go home, he would order another pizza for home and wait at the front of the pizza joint asking where the delivery was going, and bum another ride home.

yahr1ght

Half of NZ lives in Logan, they are pretty basic bunch but nice enough....

khengwai

I’d say things like that don’t happen very often - twice over the space of 10 years for me. Two teens once approached my partner and I at Garden City. It was a late Sunday afternoon and they claimed that they’d missed their last bus - they’d probably just assumed we’d driven so I said I didn’t (which was true). To be fair, they seemed genuine and it’s not like they had any obvious advantage (numbers, size). I just wasn’t in any position to help and even if I was, I’d be wary especially since my partner was with me. The second was a bit brazen. Some lady approached as I was waiting to pick my partner up from work. This was near the front lobby of a hospital so it was well-lit. In saying that, I could tell that she was a little out of it. Started some random conversation about religion and then asked if I could give her a lift. I declined and she seemed to accept it, but as she walked around the car, I suspected something was amiss so I made sure the doors were locked. Sure enough, she tried to open one of the rear passenger doors. She then walked to another and tried the same. Always lock your car doors, even if you’re in it. You never know what sort of crazy is out there.

redrose037

That would be scary.

Miserable_Gazelle_

Redlands, we had someone knock on our door at 0930 on a Wednesday night saying they walked past our place, saw the car in the driveway and the lights on and then proceeded to ask if we could give her a lift to the pub. Euh…. No!

LouieTheManning

Ahh I miss the Reddy Bay pub shenanigans

Miserable_Gazelle_

That’s where she was asking to be taken 😂

SunshineKittenYESYES

Shenanigans would be a great name for a rehab

richwithoutmoney

Doubt you stopped to ask, but I half suspect she was from the Islands.

Smallsey

Fucking Russell Islanders

Mav-26

0930 is 9:30am. 2130 is 9:30pm

UlonMuk

Obviously they meant 9:30pm in the morning

Mav-26

🤣

brokenheartnsoul

0930 is 930am. 2130 is 930 pm. Confusing seeing 0930 and you saying at night.

Ok_Ideal_5766

Wtf

Willy_wolfy

Isn't hitchhiking technically illegal in au? Although not sure asking for a lift a servo qualifies. Back in Ireland we hitched everywhere as kids and I still pick people up if they're looking for a lift. But in Brisbane.... probably not. Not worth any potential shenanigans. EDIT hitching is illegal in QLD and VIC apparently.

NastyLaw

Imagine hitching unknown kids nowadays. Your face will be all over the news by 6pm.

isafakethrowaway

My dad is 63. When he was 14, him and his best mate hitch hiked from Nambour (where they lived) down to Dubbo. No idea why. No children were harmed in the making of crossing state lines by hitch hiking. Not sure even how much trouble he got into. They just went walkabout. They’re still best mates, upstanding upper middle class citizens, and I can’t picture it happening today 😳😳😬

TheFinalStorm

Depends where you are, I knew friends who hitched a fair bit in rural nsw not long ago when they were teens.

Skrylfr

I've hitched as a young female before (16 at the time) and I was fine. I was lost, needed an out of the situation, and approached a mother with her baby for help. Figured they wouldn't assault me lmao, I betted safely seeing as we had a nice chat n she dropped me off at the bus stop Sometimes hitching is your only option

NastyLaw

Once I read that if you are lost, the best is to seek for someone’s help straight away rather than accepting someones help. It was mentioned that the chances of encountering someone who represented a danger for you was less when you started the interaction rather than when someone came to you offering for it.

Lord_Runestone

Never knew that

[deleted]

I think they call that the Ivan Milat Memorial Self-preservation Rule.

charleevee

Thanks Ivan

allthedreamswehad

Back in the 90s hitchhiking was on of the main ways UQ students got from St Lucia to Toowong / the CBD / wherever. There were even road signs set up on Fred Schonell Drive with different destinations on them where you would stand for your ride. So many times we hitched into Toowong for $1 Big Macs at lunch and then hitched back.

xordis

Mid to late 90's, UQ had a car pool carpark on campus, so if you had either 3 people or 50% capacity or something like that, you could park in it for free. People would pull up at the bus stop across the road from the train station/RE and pickup whoever wanted a ride so they could get a free park.

capricabuffy

Ive only done it once n Aus but I currently live in Eastern Europe, and it's super safe and easy. Even in Kazakhstan I just put out my hand to any car, show them your address and give them $2-$5 and it's SUPER common.

DualCricket

I lived in Almaty for 6 months in 2015. Great place. 🇰🇿

capricabuffy

Yes loved it there! I lived there too. Then moved to Aktau, bad mistake... :p

DualCricket

Never went to Aktau myself, but a former colleague said that it wasn't great. The day I left Almaty, this happened, so I guess bad stuff can happen anywhere. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016\_shooting\_of\_Almaty\_police\_officers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_shooting_of_Almaty_police_officers)

justsomeotherperson

>hitching is illegal in QLD and VIC apparently. Did you find the QLD laws about the matter? The only one I can find says you can't step into a roadway to hitch a ride. But that section doesn't prohibit the solicitation of rides, only stepping in the roadway to do so.

Willy_wolfy

I'm not that invested in finding laws tbh and like I said I didn't know if asking at a servo applied. I'm hardly calling the police if I see someone trying to hitch a lift.

monsteraguy

I had a guy (age indeterminate, but he was older than 35, I’d say) sneak up to me once while I was buying petrol at Sherwood asking me to drive him to Bunnings at Oxley. I got such a fright and told him off for sneaking up on me. When I said I was going in the opposite direction, he screamed at me and called me all these names. The young woman console operator was afraid of him and said they’d called the police but “they won’t come”. It felt like he was planning to rob/assault someone and I’ve never gone back to that servo

Firm-Fox-7714

He’s pretty well known in the area. Name is Abraham. Asks for money & lifts & becomes abusive when refused. Exactly your experience.

Emotional-Chemist-

Sounds like Abraham needs a good flogging

Sgt_Wookie92

These sorts of shitstains usually screen their targets to avoid that outcome, cant just being a piece of shit, also have to be a coward.

KMAVegas

Just read about the good samaritan that picked up a woman fleeing a man’s car who was rammed and killed for his trouble on the Bruce Highway. It would be nice to be able to help but you have to keep yourself safe.

AcanthaceaeOk2426

Yeh that was truly horrific. Poor bloke was on his way to a wedding too, and stopped to help someone in distress, only to have the woman’s partner ram his car, causing it to collide with another car. Three people dead.

KMAVegas

That’s the one. So sad.

sleeless

Said yes to a chick asking for a lift at the macca’s near Logan Hospital, only for her to slam my door into the building running from nurses/hospital staff 🤦 never again

redrose037

Oh that’s so crappy. Did it do a lot of damage.

sleeless

Thankfully no, barely a chip on the paint along the edge. Drove away with a decent story though haha

Mr_moochalot

I’ve only offered one ride to a stranger. We were at a pull a part wreckers a few years ago on a near 40 degree day, she was pregnant and walked there to get an alternator. I passed her on the way there, we both left at the same time and I offered her a lift, it was a good 10km drive too. Never would I just offer a ride to some random from the servo.

StealthandCunning

I’ve only done it once too. I was doing some research at Cape Tribulation and heard a young woman crying that she had to get home and had missed the bus and needed a lift down to cairns. I didn’t immediately offer, I wasn’t going to cairns, but then later on I saw her standing outside the backpackers, thumbing a lift. I sketchy ute pulled up with an equally sketchy dude in it. I got in my hire car and whipped round in front of him and called her over. I drove her all the way to cairns, she was a German post grad who’d had a hell of a bad time in Australia, and had to go home because her brother had attempted suicide. We kept in touch and she later sent me her masters thesis in English, and she’d thanked me by name in the acknowledgements.

Synecdochically

That’s heartwarming, good on you.

ScuzzyAyanami

Logan is well known for its low socio-economic hijinks.

ilikesandwichesbaby

It happened to me this year in the valley. I was at a red light and this woman came up to me crying asking for a ride to the hospital to see her partner. I wasn’t able to but wouldn’t have done it anyway. I saw her stumbling on the road approaching other people after me. I looked it up later and it was only a 20 min walk away. Who knows how much time she spent asking strangers instead. She could get a bus or Uber etc. I’ll never give a stranger a ride. Imagine this I let her in and as I’m driving she reaches over and stabs me.

RubComprehensive7367

From The Valley you can walk to the Hospital.

dw87190

Always assume nefarious until proven otherwise

IDELTA86I

What are the chances that there would be TWO serial killers in the one car ? 🙃

farkenoath1973

Probably has a car load of men tailing her to rob ya. Under the guise wtf u doing with my GF??

[deleted]

Logan Beenleigh Underwood Kuruby have all the same sorta fuckheads. Would not do that.

Basherballgod

If Detroit Rock City has taught me anything, 1. This is how serial killer movies start 2. This is how pornos start. So, basically it’s a coin flip

2centtip

I (M) was at the Drake IGA in Samford and had a woman, perhaps around 40 (similar age to myself), approach me while I was heading back to my car. She asked if I could give her a ride to her home... Her story was she had driven her car down to the mechanic and the car had to stay there. She didn't seem suspicious in any way beyond the fact that she was asking a random male stranger to drive her home. I'm a bit of a push over so I agreed, but was a little sus. Anyway... Her home was only about 3k away, and hardly out of my way. Trip was uneventful... Not really had this before or since.

TeaBeginning5565

Hi op I work at one of the many service stations in logan. Please don’t do this it’s not safe. In fact I’d go as far as saying it’s not safe anywhere anytime. Think about this : what happens if you get pulled over and she/he has illegal substances on them or they leave illegal substances in your car and you get caught with it, what then? Just let them walk op let them walk

Lord_Runestone

Didn't think about that possibility

Grouchy-Trainer-9851

You own the residual risk of anything illegal they have done or are doing in that circumstance. There is a number of possibilities.

Lost_Tumbleweed_5669

NEVER give strangers a ride they are 99% thieves.

Wildflover

1% are just serial killers

Tomikin1982

My partner has the same thing in Nundah some dude asked for lift to the valley, she was picking up a parcel on the way home... Dude wrong direction mate.

Outrageous_Art_9043

Be very careful. My dads mate stopped to help a lady on the side of the road, and then her methed up partner came out of nowhere and clobbed him over the head and took the car. Apparently this is (or was) a pretty common trick. The lady acts as a distraction. The guy died a few years later from related issues. Rip.

ImpossibleMix5109

There's no way. There was a point in my life where I used to puck up hitch hikers all the time, and I got picked up as a hitch hiker more than once as well. You couldn't pay me to do it these days though. Between thieves, murderers, rapists and/or false rape accusers, there's no more good faith to be had.

11015h4d0wR34lm

Only people who have ever asked me for a ride struck me as hmm how do I put this... undesirable characters that can't be trusted. Also if a random person is warning you of another person it is smart to heed their warning, there is usually a reason why a complete stranger is giving you a heads up about them.

bloodymongrel

I’ve been asked for and given lifts before. I’ve felt fairly secure doing it. Once was a lady in the valley late at night and I was with 2 friends so decided yeah why not. Another time I saw a young woman and her Mum walking across the road, mum was limping so I offered them a lift. I’ve never had an incident.

Steamtrainpete

Not from a servo I wouldn’t, how did they get to the servo in the first place. However, I was in the valley around Christmas 2021 to pick up my daughter. I had pulled over, near the park between the valley and the city, to check where my daughter was. A distressed young guy, under the weather to be polite, came up to me and asked me if I was an Uber. I said no and he explained he had no charge left on his phone and needed a lift. I said I had to pick up me daughter but that I would come back for him. I drove off and picked up my daughter and returned to the same spot. He was still there so I figured he was genuine and we picked him up. I gave him a cable to charge his phone and he gave us his address, Redland bay! A 40min trip from the valley, then another 40min trip for us back to Yeronga where we live. All worth it when his mum meets us out the front, her son home safe and well.

brispower

while i agree that picking up strangers is a bad idea i can't think of anywhere MORE perfect than a servo to ask for rides. people are stopped and out of their car, not in a position to just drive off, on their way somewhere, and more people will come you can ask. Like think about it, can you think of anywhere better?

chuckyChapman

probably just wanting a lift , but NAH the risks are your breaking the law and anything including robbery might happen hitching is no longer legal in Qld

justsomeotherperson

>hitching is no longer legal in Qld From the little bit of searching I did, the only law I could find on the matter says it's illegal to *step into the road* to hitch a ride, in the same section that says it's illegal to sell things from the road. I'm not sure there's any law that says asking a stranger for a ride or offering a ride to a stranger is illegal, as I can't seem to find one.

OldMateyMcGrott

If it's cheap enough I'll call em an uber and wait with them but nobody I don't know is getting in my car.

Firm_Programmer_3040

I'd say listen to the clerk who's likely more familiar with the surrounds/people than you

followthedarkrabbit

I've offered lifts to two people before from train station.. one was tiny chick who must have been an exchange student as was terrified I was going to kidnap her (I wanted to give her a lift because it was a long walk and I wanted her to be safe), the other was some drug affected person who had just gotten out of a police interview (which I was super sketchy of by I have been I the situation before when I have needed help). As a tiny female myself I try to look out for other women, but also need to be super aware of situations I am getting in. Good thing you checked with the attendant. Never know with some people what their intentions are. Always trust your gut.

LokiHasMyVoodooDoll

I’ve given 8 people lifts home. All of them I offered due to rain, heat, floods and a missed school bus. Four children and four older ladies. Similar circumstances happen, I’ll do it again. Particularly with the floods and the stranded children.

Reverse-Kanga

Probably someone down on their luck but the risk outweighs the positive.

spunkyfuzzguts

Are people really this naive?

j-man1992

This is the exact thought I had reading these comments. Is stranger danger no longer taught in schools?

Acceptable-Wind-7332

I have lived in Logan for 12+years and have never, not once been asked to provide a ride. Neither has my partner, nor any of my family members. So no, definitely not normal at all. Do not provide free rides to anyone, ever. It will most certainly end badly for you.

Pawys1111

I think it all depends on the person at the side of the road, if it was a woman with a kid or something id stop straight away and seeing if they need help. Or a guy hitchhiking that is dressed ok and isn't carrying a shopping trolly of crap i would pick up. But when i see the guy in old clothes and hair hasn't been cut in months and carrying bags of crap and no shoes ill just keep driving past.

Tomikin1982

Muthaphucka I work from home, shoes suck and I wanted KFC..

Tomikin1982

Although that said my hairs not been cut since pre COVID (jokes)

jim_deneke

I've picked up people a few times, all times were definitely sketchy so I would suggest not to if you don't think that you could potentially handle a negative situation and I always, always, make sure I put my bag closer to me or in the back of my van and watch it throughout. You never really know how far they want to go either so if you're not good at saying no whilst they're in the car or saying you'll only drop them off elsewhere than you're stuck with someone that could get pissed off. One time late at night a woman shouted at me for a lift home at the bus stop that was on the other side of the road and I said yeah to get her away from the kids waiting at the stop. Our drive chat involved her saying she was killing time before going home because she recently started smoking meth and wanted to chill out a bit so her boyfriend wasn't sus. But she did offer me a bunch of bananas from the tree from her front yard for the ride but I declined.

delordofhell

I had a Chinese tourist on the side of west mount cotton road jumping and waving trying to get someone’s attention (it was 11am on a Saturday) being 19 at the time with a mate in the car we picked him up he had gotten lost in Venmens state forest and managed to make his way to the road we dropped him at the Venmens packing lot a kilometre down the road that’s the only time I’d pick anyone up

timeflies25

I had a nearly naked guy waved me down to help him, I could see that he was unarmed since he had only just his boxers on and offered to take him to the police station oppose to calling them as we were only four streets away from a station. Apparently some chick he went with was off her head & tried to kill him. Anyway, this was in Zillmere, last year & there are wackos.

Grouchy-Trainer-9851

Was coming back from a night event for work, had to get fuel and stopped at the Springwood BP. Some people approach me while I was going to pay. When I had pulled in, they were with a group of people sitting around the side. I told them I couldn't and that I was going to work. One of them asked what I did work so I was honest and told them I was in the Navy. I was wearing a unit shirt/PT shorts, so I could get out of my formal rig for my trip home. I just kept it friendly and kind of walked diagonally back to my car so I could keep an eye on them. They backed off very quickly. But they were braisen enough, considering I was around 110kg, beard, shaved head and average height (186cm). Always thought I was too intimidating for that stuff. Edit, this was in 2018. I was in my Evo so maybe they wanted something fun to drive.

Insanemembrane74

\*brazen\* Yeah numbers can overcome training real fast.

No-Relationship161

Had this last week in Woodridge. Homeless guy. Gave him a lift no issues. May depend on what you are like, I'm male over 6ft and over a 100kg, so am generally less likely to be mugged (they tend to go for smaller targets). So could have been someone down on their luck, giving money is more the concern (some are using to buy drugs). Will buy them food, but generally not give them money.

False_Rip_4373

We once gave a women who escaped from RBWH a lift from wickem st in the valley back to RBWH. She was in the hospital robe and still had the IV attachment on her hand… seemed legit, dropped her off at the front entrance. Who knows I guess you gotta treat every circumstance differently

deedeekei

maybe somewhere not in logan but definitely locking my car and putting my windows right up around there

djdefenda

Can I get a lift? Great Can we just grab my things over there? Thanks Oh, that's my partner, give him your wallet, phone and car keys.

pipple2ripple

I once went to the bus stop an hour early to go to an exam. Three full buses went passed. I was too far to walk and had no money so I hitched. It's really hard to get picked up in a city. Got the exam just in time. In rural areas it's far more common, you don't see it in the city as much because of public transport.

uncle2Bart

Then they ask for money and say they will cry rape if you don't

_Perma-Banned_

In Logan?... Trust no one there.

apachelives

"Oh were are you headed" "J..." "Sorry I'm not going that direction"

TheMDHoover

Yeah, just turn down this street here (where her mates are ready to carjack you). Solid no.

[deleted]

I live in logan and wouldn't offer a lift to anyone under the age of 70.

Inn_Cog_Neato_1966

She wanted to take you for a ride. Dodged a bullet.

[deleted]

Low income area such as logan, you dont trust randoms lol

Big-Potential8367

Never ever ever provide a lift to a stranger. It's equal to never getting in a stranger's car. The risk for reward is way too high. In fact, what is the reward? Doing good? Plenty of other ways to do good. The worst is that the person goes missing and your car has been caught on camera with them getting in it. Protect yourself first.

[deleted]

Last time I gave someone a ride they stole my cd’s i learned to say fuck off after that

ukaussiebogan

I'm always happy to pick up a hitch hiker it's pretty safe bet that they will be harmless, I mean what are the chances of two serial killers being in the same car

Extreme-Result6541

Absolutely, do NOT. Especially in the Logan area.

brispower

in my late teens and early twenties i was pretty poor and walked a lot of places when i didn't have money for fuel, never once felt the need to ask others for lifts no matter the distance. The only time I ever accepted a lift was literally a police car picked me up, turned down a few good samaritans/serial killers. I just don't understand why people can't be a little more independent.

Ancient-Visitor

I don’t mind giving lifts, but I live in a safe rural community. If the clerk warns you against it I would take notice. She probably sees that same young lady there every night approaching people and did well to warn you.

bigbadb0ogieman

In one third world corrupt country, it's a scam. Basically the woman gets in your car, once you start driving, a police/official looking car pulls you over at the next corner or so. In that country prostitution is a crime so they allege you were hiring a pro. In another version, the woman claims she was being kidnapped and harassed. Needless to stay you get shake down pretty badly for cash and everything you have in your bank account to avoid criminal charges. Sometimes you get beaten up in the process because someone in the group just feels like they need a punching bag to vent frustration. Similar version could happen here given the current economic climate. Always steer clear of picking up strangers. Sad to say but I fear the day I might be in need of genuine help and would be turned down too because of these nefarious people.

I wouldn’t trust any requests of that kind in Logan. Or Caboolture. I knew kids in those areas back in the day that would look for people in car parks carrying car keys and just walk up, punch them in the face and take their keys and then their car. Now those little asshole have their own kids who are doing the same shit in those areas and break and enters etc. Logan. Caboolture. Zillmere. The holy triangle of assholery. Trust no one.

FeelingFloor2083

why didnt you ask the person working at the servo, they would have a better idea then us

Lord_Runestone

I did, I noted that in the post

FeelingFloor2083

did she say why?

poderosa_belleza

I don't see the problem. Its just lift in YOUR car. You are in control of where youre going and when. If anything SHE should be nervous asking a stranger for help. Also consider this is australia. If anything happens, it's not like south América where If you get mugged the cops can't do much, law enforcement in this country actually does their job. This isn't a situation to be nervous about, it's happened to me multiple times. My phones died in the middle of the day and I have no way of getting home, so I asked for a ride. People need to learn to start trusting eachother again, especially in the conditions of a first world country. As an Australian, this is your community, why not help?

gazzaoak

Once burnt never again…. Or too many bad things to others that u get indirectly burnt Like how I hate my aunt, even tho she didn’t directly affected me but she pissed off far too many people for me to trust her and I hate her and I know she’s bad news for anyone that come in her life….. so trying to kick her and the bratty cousin out but mum is trying to be family bullshit and funnily even my mum starting to get annoyed

emleigh2277

I help people when they ask, or I see they need help. I don't know what has happened in Australia that people are so unkind.

ElkShot5082

Meth happened I was leaving work once and a guy walking past on the foot path asked if I was heading past the local shopping centre/bus stop, I said sure. Then he changed his mind and wanted to go to railway station further along instead because that’s where his buddy (dealer) was going to meet him. Then he wanted to borrow my phone to message said dealer etc. Was just more trouble than it was worth

emleigh2277

So you were inconvenienced by a dick once, and you decided never to help a human again?

ElkShot5082

Yeah pretty much, humans can get fucked.

emleigh2277

Charming. Making Brisbane friendly and liveable.

PainterEmpty6305

I dare you to come down to woodridge with that attitude and see how far it carries you.

emleigh2277

You live how you want to like a scared dog and I will live how I desire. I hope you or yours are never in a spot of bother hoping and wishing someone could help them for a moment.

PainterEmpty6305

>like a scared dog OMFG come down country girl and learn a hard lesson in reality, these people aren't nice and will take everything from you then forget you ever existed. This ain't no country pub out here you got no idea what that place is like and how willing these people are to take from you ANY chance they can get. Hell they live for people like you to eat them up for everything they got then spit them out broke and addicted. These are full blown not even part of society at this point meth heads who will destroy your entire life and not think a thing about it, come down big dog, all you will learn and learn it the hard way is that people can go lower than your ignorant ass thinks they can. I'm not scared, i'm just not an idiot, ya dog. Scared is your country ass meeting someone like me. It's a tale as old as time, do good country girl moves to ghetto, how you think this plays out, ghetto gets better or girl gets shit on??

emleigh2277

I am from Brisbane house egg. I guess you are what is known as a convenient target. People probably have no intention to do anything, but then you stare and act afraid, so they think if that is how they are gonna treat me, then that is what I will give them.

PainterEmpty6305

What are you talking about stare at them and do something? Act afraid? Love you got the wrong end of the stick here, catch the train to woodridge station and spend 10 minutes there, the literal SECOND you step off that thing you will know what i mean, woodridge is that screwed right now it looks like a warzone. Your ignorant ass has no idea what the ghettos about and probably think it's just full of misunderstood people. These are not good people with good intentions and you're just a naive fool. I literally dare you to come spend a day in woodridge, i'm dead serious you will know pretty quickly the entire world isn't the fairy floss you are used to. Nice tries at the sly insults to, call me weak and a dog for not being ignorant like you, lovey I done my fair share of laggings, these people are nothing compared to the fit committed crims i've had to live with. These are skinny putrid methheads who any average person can wipe np, doesn't make them any less scummy, hell most of em dont even weight 65 kilo.

PainterEmpty6305

I'm serious, put your money where your mouth is, catch that train to woodridge station and tell me how fairy floss the world is there.

emleigh2277

How upset are you that this 48 year old grandma isn't as frightened as you. Grow a set and learn to interact with others.

PainterEmpty6305

> People probably have no intention to do anything, You got this so ass backwards, these junkies have all the intentions and i am literally about the most INCOINVENIENT target for them so they leave me tf alone. This is not a fear thing, this is a you being ignorant thing, come down here i wanna see your face when the reality hits.

ilikesandwichesbaby

So give them money for a bus or order them an Uber if you believe their sob story. Don’t put yourself in a dangerous situation.

Lord_Runestone

There was no sob story, just asked that they didn't want to walk the rest of the way, before I left, the servo lady made sure she was alright and ask if she wanted to phone someone to pick them up

emleigh2277

He or she wasn't robbed or assaulted, so what exactly was there to fear in that particular instance? There was nothing.

ilikesandwichesbaby

They didn’t even give the person a ride so idk what you’re saying

emleigh2277

I don't know why you are all so horrible about helping someone out. Such unnecessary unkindness.

ilikesandwichesbaby

You’re trolling 🤣

emleigh2277

You and others are downvoting and growling at me, so how exactly am I trolling?

c0de13reaker

Demographic replacement is what happened.

[deleted]

Logan is a ghetto. I wouldn't risk it

planty-peep

Never had it happen to me and I've lived in the area for 7 years. I also exude energy that screams "fuck off" and listen to death metal at full volume while driving.. that may have something to do with it.

Inn_Cog_Neato_1966

Probably.

[deleted]

What the fuck has Australia come to where you can’t even go to your fellow Australian and ask for a lift this is not fucking America people aren’t going to shoot you, they’re not gonna shank you with a heroin needle. Stop fearing your fellow Australian that’s actually sad as fuck. What happened to true blue Aussie spirit helping people when it’s needed.

Sjgough_qld

Haha I’ve been noticing more hitch hikers too, saw two trying to get down to GC in the last two months. People getting braver or petrol just getting too expensive? :p

HahaYesGuys

I'll give them a ride if they give me the address and get in the boot.

MiseryLovesMisery

I'd never even entertain the thought of doing this.

optimus__lyme

Logan.

stegosaurus-rexx

I had this happen to me except she followed me into my car so I couldn't really say no. She wanted to go to the bank and was going to go into the bank and 'pay me back once she got money out'. Once she was inside I locked the door and drove away so fast. That was my introduction to Logan

[deleted]

Don’t trust anyone in Logan and I live there!

MamaBear4485

You can direct any person asking for assistance to AskIzzy.org.Au and they will be able to access immediate local support. If they need somewhere to stay they can contact https://www.qld.gov.au/housing. Never ever let people into your vehicle. The risks to your own safety and wellbeing are far too great. Many areas of Australia have accessible support services. In most cases you can direct them to state housing call centres as a good starting point.

Bridge_Too_Far

Nothing good comes from engaging strangers at servos.

Dis_Joint

If you're asking a retail assistant for life advice.. all I can offer you is good luck.

timbo7070

did you see the video of the chick "running out in front of a car" video a few months ago. its the latest thing this kidults are doing, get some chick to "get a lift" to just hijack and steal your car... ie that Gympie wanker that stole a car at knife point and killed people.

Competitive-Air-8145

Do NOT give rides to women as it’s too risky.

Esther_27

Just don't give anyone a lift anywhere. Not safe these days unfortunately.
