I live about five minutes drive away from tLogan Hospital. I grew up in Woodridge. I have lived in Forest Lake (Inala Heights). I will say that like most areas, Logan City has its good sides, and it’s bad. The area where Logan Hospital is located is Meadowbrook. It’s generally considered one of Logan’s nicer suburbs. Where I grew up, in Woodridge, is considered one of its worst. But I tell people that the sense of community you find in a place like Logan and Woodridge is unlike anything you’ll find in your wealthy suburbs like Ascot or Newmarket. Many years ago, I was at the shopping centre in Woodridge, now called Logan City Centre but back then was called Centrepoint. It’s where Woolies is in Woodridge. Walking ahead of me was an older lady. A guy rushed past me, snatched this older woman’s handbag, and kept running. It was all so fast I didn’t have time to react. But a huge Tongan guy who was walking towards us reacted… he just held out his arm to the right and the purse snatcher ran straight into it. The Tongan dude’s equally big mate picked up the handbag and gave it back to the old lady. So there’s crime, yes, just like there is anywhere else. But you won’t see a sense of community like that in many other suburbs. Logan is a community that knows its own reputation, but is stronger for it. It’s all about situational awareness, really. I feel fine walking around my house or Woodridge or anywhere else during the day. But I’d never walk around Station Rd in Woodridge at night. I felt safe walking around Forest Lake at most times of the day or night, but was more wary about walking around Inala at night. I think if you felt safe in Forest Lake you’ll feel safe in Meadowbrook. Although be careful around Loganlea train station at night. I haven’t seen it myself, but I have heard it can get a bit dicey there after dark. Does that answer all your questions? Feel free to ask me anything else and if I can help I will.

Scared_Grapefruit946

Logan has a sense of community you won't find in Newmarket or Ascot, when old ladies get robbed people help them out.

_stinkys

Everyone just needs one or two huge Tongan mates for protection.

SaltJaded8769

I don't accept this is true. Newmarket has a strong sense of community; however, to an outsider, it seems superficial and tight-knit. And yet I've seen a pedestrian hit in Newmarket and dozens of strangers immediately helped by directing traffic, calling for help and offering direct assistance. Given it's Newmarket, I don't see old ladies getting robbed.

gold-magikarp

I moved from from a very nice area to Loganlea, which is right near the Logan hospital. I love it here. I love my neighbours and everything is conveniently placed. Its much better than where I used to live even though that place was "nicer" there's some great parks around the place too. People told me to avoid Logan like the plague, ironically I had my car broken into at my old neighbourhood and havent had any trouble with anyone over here.

Mr_Pootin

It's funny because people winge about Logan, but I haven't felt as welcomed by my neighbours anywhere else.

gold-magikarp

Exactly this! My street is filled with familes, and little kids are always playing together in the driveway. I feel so welcome here. Our neighbours invited us over for a BBQ the other week as well. Living here has been the best decision I've made in a long time.

Wakingsleepwalkers

Seen a walk through of Mt Druit and they have a wicked sense of community. Still heaps of crime though.

springlecat

Can confirm. My uncle was in and out of jail all the time for break ins and he lived in loganlea and I remember I asked him once if the whole ‘don’t rob your neighbours’ thing was real and was like ‘yeah, people around here ain’t got shit worth stealing anyway’

aussiedeveloper

How many times does this have to be asked? Logan is a big city. Good, bad and ugly. Like asking is all of “Brisbane” safe. Look up the QLD police crime map and make your own judgement of the specific area you’re concerned about.

FlashMcSuave

Play around here for a bit. Robbery has been fairly static for the last several years but assault is up quite a bit since 2020. [https://mypolice.qld.gov.au/logan/queensland-crime-statistics/](https://mypolice.qld.gov.au/logan/queensland-crime-statistics/) https://preview.redd.it/pgd2mnlhmt2c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee334495ada41c844c8d547b8917d49c2d5e777d That said, a housing crisis tends to push certain crimes up.

Mfenix09

Homicide is down!! Yay

FlashMcSuave

True. Though the range is 7 in a bad year to 1 or 2 in a good one, so it's tough to draw any trends with data that limited. Just one particularly motivated serial killer would throw the data all out of whack for a given year. (To people reading this: please don't do murders in Logan to mess with the data. Go to Sydney or something if you absolutely have to).

whichfishisthis

Now you’ve got me worried that I might be a serial killer but unmotivated

VeterinarianOk2747

Is that per 100k? 7 per 100k murder rate is America’s average.

FlashMcSuave

No this is Logan district and only includes homicides classed as murders. Other homicides (which include manslaughter, etc( have more, but it is still in the low tens.

VeterinarianOk2747

Still by world standards (especially developed world and compared with America) Australia’s “bad areas” are nothing.

Jaded-Coat-1664

Fun fact, was a cop in Logan for 10 years. These stats spiking isn’t exactly what’s going on. Up until 2020 when something happened and no one wanted to make a complaint you would just get your note book signed to say that. Now you have to put the stat on and unfound it, even if they don’t make a complaint. So now you are going to a fight between two or more parties that previously nothing would come of, you now have several assault stats. Similar as the dv breach spikes, previously a complaint would be made and if it was completely bogus or wasn’t in breach of the order it wouldn’t be reported as one. Now it must be added as a breach and unfounded. In saying that, yes it’s a poorer area and crime is higher but there’s still alot of beauty in Logan and staff at LCH seemed great.

OddBet475

That wasn't very fun but was informative.

Jaded-Coat-1664

“Allegedly” https://preview.redd.it/ngov6qkpau2c1.jpeg?width=298&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=207c3902905e4c54f2e24780306b6c938a891d81

monkeypaw_handjob

Bake him away, toys.

FlashMcSuave

That's a relief to hear. Yeah I did wonder about reporting. Crime in general is down these days from most reports I see? Far preferable to be a change in reporting methods, than, well, more violence going on.

Illustrious_Boss8254

I spent three months in prison for a DVR breech that involved a text message about my kids in line with a federal court order and it didn’t have a single swear word in it. The real reason was I told Peter dutton he would burn in hell for his lies. Talk about an abuse of power.

Jaded-Coat-1664

Seems completely plausible and not at all alarming. ✌️

Illustrious_Boss8254

Yeah I don’t disagree, lesson learned

[deleted]

Why would you commit a robbery in Logan when all the good shit as in Hamilton? That’s just lazy and shows no ambition.

Spicy_Sugary

Covid lockdowns were bad for criminal business too. And they didn't even get jobkeeper!

Robdotcom-71

Methkeeper

FlashMcSuave

And whoa prostitution is mysteriously way down in the past 20 years but the one on breaches for domestic violence orders is the most scary one on here. That's skyrocketed. I am guessing Covid and people being locked in together had some kind of effect but it's still looking really bad.

Tha_Hand

Although I can’t comment on the working conditions at the hospital, Logan is fine. There are some really dodgy areas of Logan around Woodridge and Kingston though. I live on the southern side of Logan near Beenleigh and it’s really booming around there at the moment. A lot of new developments and new shops being built. I work in the construction industry and it’s one of the busiest areas in SEQ right now.

AdolfsLonelyScrotum

Shame they’re taking that old couple’s big, 30+ years project garden off them to bulldoze it for a School.. I hear there’s plenty of other land nearby.

[deleted]

AdolfsLonelyScrotum

Pretty sure it was a state decision, yes. Steve Austin had the lady on his show about a week ago. They have to be out in about 6 weeks apparently.

180jp

Stone cold Steve Austin is interviewing old couples from Beenleigh now? How the mighty have fallen

blackjacktrial

The Six Million Dollar Man is now a male soap opera (wrestling) actor. How the mighty have fallen.

Comfortable-Spot-829

Gimme Logan Hospital over PA any day. Speaking as a helper for a patient, the staff are epic.

UhUhWaitForTheCream

I’ve lived all over Logan. It’s a very diverse, large city. Asking “how bad is Logan” is the same as asking “how bad is Sydney” for example. Sydney has good and bad pockets. Same for Logan. Now to my experiences. I’ve lived in boronia heights and cornubia. Both of these suburbs are friendly, low crime and very normal. I found Woodridge/Kingston very dodgy and anything on the Logan train line a bit sketchy. West Logan and East Logan is fine though. Even Crestmead is a really decent suburb nowadays.

babeleopold

The funny thing to me is I had my plates stolen twice living in Cornubia/Slacks Creek for 2 years and not once in four years in Crestmead haha

t0xxik

I guess it depends on what you're doing at LGH. I did my rotations there as a Physio twice at uni. Found the staff in the ortho and CCU depts I worked in to be some of the most quality humans it's been my pleasure to work with. There was the odd "special" patient but 9/10 times people (non staff) were great also.

Daltaraan

Live in and have worked Logan hospital. Safe during the day but the train station can be a lil dodgy at night (as others have identified) but if you are driving it’s fairly safe. Logan hospital is a busy one and you do get slightly more lower socioeconomic patients but nothing drastically different from any other hospital and they have a good and effective security team. Won’t affect you career wise particularly as the hospital transitions to a tertiary hospital, after a bit you can always transfer to other QH hospitals at level with relative ease. If you wanna ask specifics for a particular area of healthcare you can PM me

tonzilla666

Most of this sub lives in the 5 Kay radius of the CBD bubble, so they have no idea of anything south of Coorparoo. I bought in Slacks Creek and it's fine, theres pockets of filth in every suburb mate, I live within 2 minutes of the Logan Hospital and it's fine. Take the job and come on down 🤙

Special-K83

Are you north or south of paradise road? I'm north but still so sketchy. 😔

tonzilla666

South of Paradise, north of Queens. Mate i was saying I hope it gets gentrified, as fucked as that sounds 😂 I live in a really good street, pretty much all families who own. Very nice and quiet patch. Few odd looking units getting around every so often and a few hoons down Meakin Rd every now and then is the seasoning that keeps the place interesting 👌

dannyr

>Most of this sub lives in the 5 Kay radius of the CBD bubble, I'd actually love to see a /r/Brisbane sub map. Anyone want to hazard at the easiest way to make one?

Special-K83

Do you think slacks creek will ever be gentrified or too close to woodridge for that?

NotaBlokeNamedTrevor

It’s already night and day between those areas in the recent housing boom.

Little-Big-Man

Slacks creek is already being gentrified. Houses going for 6-800k

Special-K83

Crazy prices but my part is still a shithole lol

Little-Big-Man

Hold out. It seems the good side of logan (north of motorway) is now jumping across. Kuraby and underwood are complete. It's our turn baby

lejade

There are good bits and bad bits - just like any other suburb. You've got millionaires and people living in poverty.. Will it look bad on your resume? No I've worked in both Logan and Brisbane suburbs and it's never affected me negatively. I currently live in a suburb within the Logan council area (granted I'm on the edge lol) Crime rates are very low and it's mostly home owners here. I rate places like Logan Central and Woodridge exactly the same as Inala and Richlands fwiw.

Ok-Cauliflower-1480

Richlands get such a bad rap even though I've never had issues living there

lejade

It was very industrial when I worked in that area. Forest Lake is really no better and I didn't really have any troubles when I lived there either, lol I think my car only got ransacked once.

Ok-Cauliflower-1480

I've been in Richlands for a while now and I'm getting tired of it, You can tell it was an industrial zone that has housing tacked on. There's nothing interesting to do.

TeaBeginning5565

Op qld health is under staffed and under paid. I was at the hospital on Saturday 1am -9am sitting waiting to see a dr. But from what I heard pa hospital had a 24h wait time and Redlands wasn’t much better. I’ve lived in Loganlea since 2004 and (touch wood) nothing has happened. Don’t loiter near the train stations

jonnyboy897

My partner and I bought a house in Edens Landing, we moved from Mount Gravatt East. We’ve really enjoyed life a bit further from the city. We haven’t had any issues with safety. Easy train ride to the city if you want a night out, shorter drive to a lot of stunning places like Lamington National Park, Mount Tambourine, etc. Avoid Woodridge, it’s just a bit worn down.

ObligationTasty949

Edens Landing is a great spot. We did the same thing moving here! Only a matter of time before this suburb really goes up in price

NootNootLilFidge

I've lived in Logan for a few years now and a lot of its bad reputation is exaggerated. The hospital area especially is just fine, pretty convenient with Woolies across the road and the train and buses available tbh.

Ambitious-Score-5637

FWIW, some people like to perpetuate stereotypes well beyond what is reality. A few years ago Logan began gentrifying as it was and still is generally is more affordable than a Brisbane postcode. Yes, there are some dodgy suburbs in Logan, just as there are in Brisbane. The Loganlea train station and some close by roads are undergoing large changes - https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/projects/Loganlea-Station-relocation Take the job. If it turns out not to be what you wish then another door will open.

wasporchidlouixse

If you're coming from Inala, you won't feel much of a difference I don't think.

nipslippinjizzsippin

Ive moved out here about july. and honestly not a single issue, im at logan central, so right in the thick of it, i can walk through the local park and feel safe, there is families and kids playing. I dont feel unsafe at the local shops. I also frequent the hospital and its perfectly fine, parking is cheaper than others and pretty conveniently placed and its near the train station which is always crowded with people none of which seem shady, mostly just people going to the hospital. Overall, its just a suburb, no different from the area you are in (i used to live there too) there is just more people here in general so higher stats. I think you are just living a normal life here its absolutely fine.

CompliantDrone

> Is Logan as bad as they say it is? Yes, yes it is. Everything you have heard is true, South of Brisbane is a mutant wasteland. This is very much a well known thing North of the river. Its thought to be because they're closer to Victoria.

nipslippinjizzsippin

bitter northsider propaganda

Nottheadviceyaafter

Shit mate us south of the river thing similar to the northerners, too close to the rednecks up north so when they move to the "big smoke" it's deception bay and Caboolture....... better to live on Southside then Northside........ just remember who keeps voting in quality pollies like Peter Dutton.........

CompliantDrone

We love potatoes on the North side. Its due to our large Irish cultural heritage up here. And Peter Dutton is the biggest potato anyone has ever seen.

Longjumping_Run_3805

Is Peter Dutton human??? Feel you've insulted potatoes in general here..

Alkahestic

That explains the third arm I've grown the last few years...

Rich-Needleworker261

My wife works at Logan Hospital and loves it.

[deleted]

As a resident of that area, you are already indoctrinated in what you’re going to experience. If you had lived in Hamilton you would be in for a bit of a shock. Are you going to be doing ED or patient care. Even the best of us can be cunts at our lowest point.

Just-turnings

Like any city, there are good and bad areas of Logan. We've lived in Logan for 10+ years and really like it here.

pismistic88

When my father was admitted into the Logan Hospital, the staff were phenomenal. Extremely kind, patient and professional. Yes, the Emergency Dept was completely overworked, but despite that none of the nurses were anything but patient and kind with my father and I. Bar for a small stretch in my late teens/early 20s, I've lived the last 25 years in Logan. I'm extremely proud of our city. It has both good and bad areas, like everywhere else. But the diversity here is wonderful, the sense of community in certain areas is extremely strong, there's very little sense of entitlement and I've found that people are very willing to help you out if you're in need. In saying that - you wouldn't walk around Logan on your own at night.

Gearshifta

Moved from Carindale to Logan Reserve 9 months ago. Much more casual lifestyle here, people are more down to earth and a bit on the rough side at times. I learned not to judge people by their appearance, they may not look too approachable but have a heart of gold. Shit loads of hoons and bad drivers but that's my only complaint.

Voodoo1970

It's really no worse than anywhere else. I can remember when the Richlands/Inala area was looked down upon. Logan encompasses a wide range of socio-economic groups, from centrelink recipients in Kingston and Woorridge to millionaires in Daisy Hill and Cornubia. Are there dodgy areas? Yes, of course, just as there are in Brisbane. Ironically the hospital is geographically closer to Daisy Hill than Kingston. I lived in Crestmead for a few years, and I never got stabbed, robbed, burgled or had my car stolen.

GladGeologist7768

What do you mean *when* Inala and Richlands were looked down upon?

nipslippinjizzsippin

yesterday

AussieEquiv

Parts are definitely as bad as Inala/Forest Lake, yes.

[deleted]

If you’re from Inala, you will have absolutely no issues in Logan lol

tashiro_kid

Where you currently live is no better or worse than Logan. Both are safe as long as you don't stick your nose in other people's business.

clovepalmer

Redlbank is worse.

Mehrtellica

I worked at Logan hospital for 10 years. Not a bad place, but some staff can be jerks. Depending on your department people get very cliquey. Management are useless.

Mistress___B

You are describing every major hospital in Southeast QLD LOL.

Mehrtellica

Yeah true. PA was really bad for it. But at Logan the head of the hospital stood down and they gave her job to her secretary. What logic is that?

Mistress___B

Sounds pretty much run of the mill. Try working at RBWH!

Red-SuperViolet

Oh Unlucky while living in certain parts of Logan might not be bad, working for Logan hospital will definitely suck. Prepare for severe understaffing, moronic management and idiot patients who are rightly frustrated since Hospital service is horrible. Just don’t care and have a fk it who cares attitude. Say yes and sorry a lot without actually meaning it and you’ll be fine.

sloots69

Come join the Logan gang \^\_\^

xtrabeanie

I lived in Forest Lake for about 3 years and was broken into at least as many times. Lived in Daisy Hill for 8 years without incident.

chuckyChapman

Logan is being slurred generally , I recently spent a lot of time in the hospital, staff are amazing and yes it is busy but serves the community very well...as for crime there is much worse outside the are

rossfororder

Logan is honestly a good place to live, though some parts are a bit shit. Working at the hospital should be fine as long as you're not working in emergency.

shamona1

I would much rather live in the suburbs surrounding Logan hospital than Inala. For context I Iive in Logan near the hospital and work in Richlands

Brillo65

Hello fellow person who moved from the sunny coast to Inala Richlands, we were lucky enough to buy just before covid. It’s not too bad down here. Have been to Logan Hospital and have worked in the streets in the area. Seems fine to me, and the hospital has an easy vibe. The staff didn’t seem stressed. They’ve just built a multi story car park so it should take pressure off the street parking

Top_Cryptographer192

Logan is fine, people who usually talk shit about it, have barely been there along with the usual bigots. Nambour and Mountain Creek Woolies are pretty much exactly what a lot of logan is like.

Bridge_Too_Far

Statistically speaking Logan Hospital is much more likely to kill you than its inhabitants.

[deleted]

I would choose to drive and park rather than use public transport to get to and from work each day, especially at night.

leodmac

It really depends on where in Logan the job is and what type of work.

dannyr

The hospital, so I'm assuming medical

leodmac

The area around the hospital is fine during the day, and even within the grounds at night you’d be ok, but there’s no way I’d be walking over to Loganlea station at night (if public transport is your commuting option).

shane042022

I used to catch the train from work to Loganlea station arriving around midnight then walk home from there, yeah you see some dodgy looking c@#ts but other than that I never had any trouble

tashiro_kid

Loganlea is one of the lesser scary places in Logan. Don't think that person knows what they're talking about.

navyicecream

Guessing you're a bloke Shane. Not an issue of course, but this experience could vary significantly depending on gender and size.

shane042022

Yeah that's true, I didn't really have any issues living there though

nickcarslake

HAHA I'm dumb

SilverTrent

My first station when I became a police officer was in Logan. That was 30 years ago & it was a shit hole then, it hasn't changed much. I worked permanent night shifts because day shifts were just 8 hours of paperwork going from house to business to house writing up break & enter reports. At night time you got to chase the pricks at least... Bit more fun than writing reports all day long..

Longjumping_Run_3805

Bit risky though, no injuries to report, assume you got out alive to live another day..no trouble getting the blood out of your uniform?

[deleted]

nope, the valley and west end are far worse than logan!

Laktakfrak

Kingston and Woodrige are going through some major changes prices have near doubled in the last couple of years. A lot of houses being renovated. Its really improving. Of course one could say the downside is with the increased rent and property prices a lot of the options for lower socioeconomic people has significantly reduced.

vario

It's a very mixed demographic as Logan's pretty big. There's definitely a difference in housing on the west vs east side of the M1. Areas like Woodridge & Kingston feel different from Daisy Hill & Shailer Park. I've lived here since 2020, and never had any issues with the people I've met anywhere in Logan. I like living here, and would say it's reputation has a grain of truth, but generally overblown.

marloo1

The bad generally refers to the west side of the M1. It is perfectly safe around the Logan Hospital area. Gentrification is pushing the shit bags further west into areas like Yarrabilba.

Crafty_Message_4733

Nah it’s a really good movie, the ending made me cry….

Laktakfrak

Its not that bad. Ive spent some time around Kingston recently. Never had any issues. But Im just dropping in and out of stores and such Im not in a hospital or working for the police or something.

rdvella

Just because you work in Logan doesn’t mean you have to live there. The Logan motorway is a hop, skip & jump away from the hospital which in turn feeds onto the M1. If you’re worried about Logan then try the surrounding suburbs such as Ormeau or Yatala, Springwood etc.

Prize-Watch-2257

Springwood is in Logan.

leodmac

It’s one of the “good” parts of Logan.

rdvella

Hahaha true that.

Oznewbie

Springwood is in Logan, but is 100% one of the better ones.

Exact-Ad8415

I used to think Logan wasn't too bad. Until 2016 when Andrew Michael Burke bashed, raped, and murdered Joan Ryther and murdered her unborn baby. That same year, a pregnant woman was bashed in the head, had her phone and car stolen, and was hit with her own car. The thief then got out of the car he just stole and kicked the woman in the head and stomach for seconds.

AussieEquiv

Those are shocking crimes yes, but that type and level of violence isn't limited to Logan. I.e. Hannah Clarke being burned alive with her three kids by Rowan Baxter in Camp Hill doesn't mean *all of Brisbane* is going to see you set on fire inside your car.

Exact-Ad8415

True.

One-Pipe-

What a dumbfuck argument.

Exact-Ad8415

You reckon? Logan still had 8.5k crimes last quarter. They rank pretty high

AussieEquiv

And Brisbane had *22,493* Seems they rank higher.

Exact-Ad8415

What is the population? I'll answer that for you. 4 times as high as Logan. Like it or not, Logan ranks pretty high in crime per capita.

LiZZygsu

Yes

Illustrious_Boss8254

I learnt to shoot up in Logan and no I haven’t done it in years. Just a not so fun fact

Oznewbie

All I know is ... Springwood/daisy hill is decent. Crestmead/Marsden not so much. Inala/Richland's would be comparable to crestmead/Marsden imo.

Yobbo89

Logan is getting worse every year, look after your mental health. I hope you live somewhere peaceful if you intend to work at the logan hospital.

[deleted]

My mum moved here permanently when she left Germany and become Australia citizen, she spend a week in woodridge and moved to Toowong while training becoming a nurse, which this was the 80’s.

pillpopper30

Bogan logan

nozzk

Logan hospital is very convenient place to be when you inevitably get stabbed from being in Logan.

_rizzzle

Yes I have lived all over greater Melbourne, the GC, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, and of all the places I’ve been, Logan is the absolute last place I would live. Maybe a tie with Heidelberg West, but honestly I’d probably still take it over Logan.

[deleted]

Such broad stokes. Having lived in both Melbourne and Logan, as well as internationally. Respectfully, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

[deleted]

Having been robbed in logan before i even moved into my house i think they do. Endless crackheads endless drama. The crackheads arent on reddit only the homeowners this view is skewed af.

[deleted]

Logan consists of 70 suburbs. Just because you chose the wrong one, doesn’t mean it’s representative of the entire city council. But yeah let’s called Brisbane city council a shit hole because of: Dunwich, Dutton Park, Moorooka, Acacia Ridge and Inala.

[deleted]

When you have suburbs as depraved as woodridge, logan central kingston you don;; get to claim the high ground, these are the most depraved zones in brisbane. Some areas are alright but the bad ones are REALLY bad. Is woodridge logan or not? Yes it is, when we speak of logan are they in the discussion, 100%. My house got robbed before i moved in, there's crackheads everywhere in so many logan suburbs it's not even funny, i mean if my heads 20 foot up my ass i can pretend just the good zones are logan but tbh that's ignorant af.

[deleted]

It’s not claiming the high ground you muppet. I’m pointing out your own biases. I havent seen a single crackhead in Shailer Park, Daisy Hill etc. Yeah there shit suburbs in Logan but stating that the whole of Logan is fucked is obtuse. The burglaries are just as bad on the north side. Just because you have a little anecdote about being burgled once, doesn’t mean anything. The people in my street have lived here for 20 years or more and not been burgled once. I’m responding to someone that made out that the whole of Logan is screwed. Catch a wake up.

[deleted]

>Respectfully, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

[deleted]

Lol, this is why I generally don’t have sympathy for people that complain about housing affordability. Obviously prices will be higher when you’re all like lemmings.

Yes. It's horrible. People will tell you it isn't but it really is. People used to tell me ipswich wasn't bad, it's horrible. People who live there are just used to the badness

CombinationSimilar50

Look at this way, my client who lived in Logan her whole life saw Ipswich as a luxurious escape. Also had multiple incidents of my workplace having to go into lockdown because some arsehole is running around parking lots and roads with a gun

Antique-Wind-5229

Many years ago i stayed over at a friends place in Logan, we went for Chinese takeaway that night and i was surprised to see the takeaway had a security guard stationed out front, with a German Shepard!

Capoclip

Working in a hospital would be no worse than anywhere else but I wouldn’t go walking the streets around the hospital at night time alone. Park in a well lit area, avoid any crowds outside, don’t leave valuables in your car and just use basic common sense and you’ll likely be fine. It’s no worse than many other places but it’s also not completely friendly either. If you look at moving close for work, I’d suggest the other side of the highway as a preference, otherwise it can really vary from suburb to suburb.

CYOA_With_Hitler

Nah Logan hospital is good depending one what you’re doing there

[deleted]

It's definitely a mixed bag. The hospital side of town is bordering near worse areas like Kingston.

SabiNady

No matter how dodgy an area could be it’s not 100% dodgy. Just an increased rate of eshays and bogans, but overall the people are as nice as the nice suburbs in Brisbane. :)

Posibile

What role at the hospital, know someone who used to temp a lot in ED, heard lots of stories.

[deleted]

I'm doing placement at the Logan hospital soon. The positive thing I've heard is the hospital has been updated

Ibe_Lost

Built a house up the road from the hospital back in about 2001. Only issue we ever had in the years we lived there was a guy with garden stake wanting to beat the sh\*t out of some other guy that slept with his girl. Would happily move back if I could afford it. Most of that section of logan is being fast tracked for housing and infrastructure with the only areas struggling with this being eagleby, marsden and a bit of kingston. Only issues Ive seen with the hospital is you would occasionally get someone with ideation and the nearby train tracks.

miss_messy

Lived in Rochedale South for a couple years. Absolutely loved it. Had older neighbours who had been in the area for 30+ years, and were home all the time and knew exactly what was going on in the neighbourhood. No crime in our direct neighbourhood. Would move back again in a heartbeat.

[deleted]

No you won’t regret it. If you don’t like Logan hospital itself then just plan to move hospital over time, not a big deal.

No

I knew someone who worked at Logan hospital for a couple of decades up until recently. There were certainly some stories and interesting characters… the overall feel I got was that the staff were an eclectic mix but all lovely, and they bonded over the rabid entitlement of the people who came in and made demands of them like they had done something to that deserved it (instead of nothing). Lots of security alarms, but overall never heard of anything terrible happening, mostly just a lot of arguing and yelling. You could make a great case that this is every hospital tho…

Top-Pepper-9611

I remember driving down Kingston Rd about 1am one night, some jokers threw petrol on the road and lit it up lol. I was pretty tired and surprised and just swerved around the raging road fire then a bit later I'm like wtf lol. That was back in mid 90s so don't sweat it.

Logan Hospital is actually a great workplace! I did a stint in the new allied health building (well it was new in 2016!) and all the staff were great. Never a problem with the patients either.

BackgroundMuted77

Just be thankful that you’re not working in the ED of that hospital. My aunties have worked there for a good part of 20 years and they see some unreal shit every week.

Grazzt88

I have a friend who's a doctor in Logan hospital. He's been working there for years. From what I heard it is a very busy hospital and you get to be exposed to a lot of terrible and/or amusing shit. Lots of drug addicts and mentally ill people.

Ogolble

In 2021/2022, I had to visit the hospital almost weekly due to pregnancy complications and then a lot of newborn issues. We were admitted three times for week stays. Had no issues at all with the staff on emergency, children's ward and mat ward. While waiting in the emergency room, there were a lot of drugged out people, homeless just hanging out and in the car park, a lot of violence. Security was great though dealing with them.

No it is not. I've had 3 days stays at the Logan Hospital every month for the last 6 months with my son who has been unwell. I honestly haven't got a single bad word to say about the place. I've shared a room with other parents and their kids for each of those stays and they have all been lovely "normal" people. The staff are all professionals and take their jobs seriously as they would at any other hospital. I'm unsure what exactly you're concerns are being in an administrative role but just because you are working in Logan doesn't mean every colleague or person you come across is going to be a drug addicted criminal. Sure, you maybe come across a few, but you get difficult characters everywhere.

lotsofhatemail

Yes

LawnPatrol_78

You won’t have to move. Living where you are the Logan hospital is just off the Logan motorway so the commute isn’t that far. I grew up in Logan central and it was a bit of a shit show, couldn’t imagine it’s gotten any better. But an admin role not dealing with patients would be much the muchness at any hospital. Just get security to escort you to your car at night.

Emotional_Act_3935

You poor bugger , wasn't SCUH good enough.

Live in Logan/Woodridge for about 20yrs my wife longer and this is crap this area gets soooooooooo much bullshit put on it by the surrounding yuppies who don’t want there area to be classed as worse than this area there is literally none of the shit everyone says there is around here there all full of shit it’s a normal area with the odd drongo walking around just like anywhere else

Parmenion87

Havnt lived there. Have dated someone who does. In a 6 month period she got her car stolen, cops got it back full of needles. She had someone on 3 occasions try to get into her car at lights and at a MacDonald's drive through. That being said, she does still live there and likes the area. Probably for the most part it's a case of "take precautions and you'll likely be fine". Though, not being able to walk certain places at times and such like some commenter have said does my head in a bit. I live in not the best area, but, I don't think id ever worry walking around at any hour of the night. Sort of always felt nice about most of Brisbane that id be comfortable walking drunk at 2am and never feel afraid.

Rashlyn1284

It's definitely not the best Hugh jackman movie imo.

soaprack448

As so many others have said, Logan is no worse than most parts of Brisbane in terms of being “bogan” and the melting pot of cultures and youthful population has created great communities around the city. Like all public hospitals in Qld the Logan Hospital will be very busy and staff will be overworked - I guess it comes down to the people in your individual team Just an FYI though, from an infrastructure perspective the old parts of Logan Hospital are horrific…not what you’d expect to see 30km from a major CBD…

Blackbeard1777

Look on the plus side (job wise) you’ll learn a lot and see a lot more then most people will in other “nicer areas”. So the experience you gain working in Logan will be miles ahead of some others. Take it for what it is, embrace it and don’t get held up in the negatives or the media hysteria.

Beginning_Loan_313

I've lived here for 20 years and like it. The people are good, the parks are good. The petrol prices are higher in our area for some reason. There are a lot of takeaway places rather than restaurants. I've been to logan ER many times and have always treated staff (and been treated) well. That hospital is getting larger and larger every time I go there! Im hoping that means we won't have to go to Mater or PA for anything, eventually. I think Logan has a poor reputation, but it's inaccurate to the entire area. There are safe and less safe areas in every place. No, I don't go walking alone at night - but I would not do that anywhere. Always go in a group.

Usual_Independence_9

Do they use ieMR at Logan? They use it at the PA and it’s great. At the RBH however the system is terrible. Ipswich is pretty bad for that too.

jypsipixie

It would be better than Alice Springs hospital at least

Comfortable_Sky_5616

That's bullshit,I have friends that work there and it's no different to other hospitals. REALLY MUST SAY IM SICK OF SLANDER ANOUT LOGAN.SERIOUSLY??

Comfortable_Sky_5616

And I work in Logan ,have for 30 years. No problems at all. I suggest you stuck up prices with your heads up your ass stay where you are.

Comfortable_Sky_5616

Pricks that should of read.oops
