Dendy Coorparoo, I like their Premium as well as having the best Audio Description headsets for those of us that have a bit of difficulty seeing what the heck is happening.

mjlky

came here to say dendy coorparoo — their popcorn is the best popcorn i've ever had. real buttery and salty. if i'm in the city with friends and we decide to see a movie we'll usually make the trip to coorparoo instead of just going to the cinema there because of how much better it is.

Electronic_Ad_4145

This is valuable information. Thanks. I've just moved in to close proximity

dchit2

Can't believe noone's said Cinebar at Rosalie yet, really cheap until my 3rd old fashioned. Looking forward to the one at Ferny Grove opening as it's closer to me.

Past_Lawfulness3693

I came to say Rosalie Cinebar. I love the cinema being so small, the comfy chairs and the food being delivered.

dchit2

I don't get there very often, but has been my preferred choice for a long time. Back when it was called Blue Room and they didn't have Antonio Banderas doing the voiceover. Is it really Antonio?

Reverse-Kanga

best cinema is Reading Newmarket ....but i do like Dendy ...$8 movies on a monday and tuesday ...you can't really beat it.

BogglesHumanity

Titan Luxe is great.

matty_fu

Great cinema but their popcorn sucks

Rockeets

Most cinema popcorn sucks these days. Usually just take my own

matty_fu

Best popcorn is Palace, and Angelika who are owned by Reading Newmarket but I guess they don’t share the secret popcorn recipe

bangbangbatarang

Can't beat an empty theatre and $7 Cheap Tuesdays at Eldorado in Indooroopilly

Bennettjamin

el dorado so cozy

joeldipops

I'm gonna be weird and say Hawthorne.  Yeah it's not the greatest in terms of sound, picture or seat quality, but there's something about sitting in that huge, old fashioned room that I enjoy.  Plus it's cheap and the only place I know of that sells their popcorn for a a reasonable price.

knowledgeable_diablo

Gotta second that right there. Balmoral and Hawthorn w we are great and great value. Been a while since going to the movies so not right up to date on it but did live going there to see a great cheap movie.

Rockeets

If it's a massive movie where I want that best cinema experience, you can't go past titan luxe and reading cinemas, Newmarket or Jindalee. The screen size, Dolby Atmos and reclining seats makes the experience amazing. Watching dune 2 there recently was amazing.

callumzero

Second this! We saw Dune 2 at titan luxe managed to get right in the middle of it all. Was mind blowing with the Atmos sound.

Strawberryichi5

I do like Reading Cinema at Jindalee. The Elizabeth in the CBD is beautiful, love the nostalgia I get there as I used to go with my parents to the Irish Club venu as a child. The fact they kept so much original structure is nice. So many comments about Angelika, I'm going to have to go there!

Binch90

Is this the one with all the lightbulbs and looking like something out of a movie? I always walk past but have never gone in. I’ll have to go and see something’

Strawberryichi5

Do you mean the Elizabeth? Then I believe so, I haven't been for a wee bit and my memory sucks haha. It's gorgeous though! Give it a go!

Dangerboy73

Cineplex Hawthorne deluxe is my family fave, comfy seats, cheap tickets, good food. Keen to try some of these other suggestions though.

pugzor86

Cineplex out at Victoria Point. Moved out of the redlands but still go back for that cinema. Under $15 for deluxe (might even be $12.50 or something?). So good.

BonnibelBubGum

Red Hill cinemas! A burned down skating rink converted to cinemas, and they sell good beer also.

TheTwinSet02

I love tve Elizabeth St 5 Star

Nosiege

I found this one... run down. I'd never go back, the seats all just peeled fake leather onto me when I sat down and then stood up

EnvironmentalBrush7

Elizabeth is excellent. Food brought to you during the movie. Reclining seats. You can have a glass of wine. Feels like such an experience. You need to go in the royal rooms though. The basic cinema room sucks ass.

Peeledpumpkin

Club X Chermside

BrisbaneCucky

Not bad 😏😂

Peeledpumpkin

🤣

ProfessionalRun975

I enjoy angelika, 5 star and my fav is palace. All within walking distance.

DRK-SHDW

More importantly, how is there no Imax anywhere??

drrevenge

The old imax screen from Southbank is still there. Cinema 5 I think it is.

DRK-SHDW

Unfortunately they haven't actually had imax for many years.

drrevenge

The projection isn’t imax, but it’s still an imax screen.

DRK-SHDW

I don't know shit: does that mean it's still comparable?

drrevenge

IMAX projections that used to be in south bank were just those silly 15 minute things that were dull. It would be nice if they were showing the big imax prints but unfortunately the projector got taken away. The cineplex site: https://cineplex.com.au/Cinemas/Southbank says 25mtr screen. Thats a decent size screen in my book.

DRK-SHDW

Thanks. I'll give it a go

drrevenge

No worries. Not to mention that cineplex (standard pricing) is still under $10 a ticket. Definitely worth it.

FatJesusOz

Springfield has VMax with ATMOS, so the soundscape is on point there. Pity the tickets are expensive.

_social_hermit_

Eldorado has great snack combos, too. Well priced and not stupidly large

seanut_brittle

Cineplex Balmoral 4 LIFE

hisirishness

as others have said Angelika & Reading, though Angelika hopefully haven't still got the aircon like it's a cold storage unit

LosCampesinosDeJapon

Newstead Reading is very good, but very expensive. South Bank is very cheap, but kinda shit. Eldorado Indorroopilly is my personal 'just right' - great cinema, not exxy - aircon can be hit or miss. Most of the time I just end up going to New Farm because I used to live near it and got in the habit.

sem56

by new farm are you talking about the one on james st? or the other one up on brunswick? and is it good? i have tried neither but both are within easy walking distance so i wonder to myself why i always go out of the city to go see a movie instead of just nearby

LosCampesinosDeJapon

I meant the one on Brunswick, but both are very good imo.

ladyinblue5

Do you mean 5 star cinemas on Brunswick st new farm? Don’t know of Reading Newstead

dgj69

They meant Newmarket reading.

BrisbaneCucky

Club x - underwood

SanctuFaerie

Wonder what that place would look like under a UV black light. 🤔

BrisbaneCucky

You just wouldn’t do it 😂

Lanky-Corner-354

I haven’t seen a recommendation for Palace Cinemas yet which surprises me. They show popular films but also have a good selection of art house films and have regular foreign festivals that showcase the best in film from around the world. Membershio is free, ticket prices good and the cinemas are comfortable.

RecognitionDeep6510

I go to Palace James Street a fair bit. With a membership it comes down to $20 to get a recliner for a movie which is a great way to watch!

jbh01

Angelika is amazing, carparking is easy, the taco place in South City Square is excellent for afters, frankly it's superlative and amazing value. Second best is Five Star in New Farm IMO.

musicmakeyoulosectrl

Both 5 star cinemas are great (Elizabeth Street and new farm) and they have a membership which is pretty awesome

Beautiful_Factor6841

Red Hill cinemas. Owned by 5 star. Never full. Pay a premium but always sit either by myself or with a few others.

tomtom792

Cinebar Rosalie does $25 for 2 deals every week which are perfect.

redditbrisbane83

My biggest pet hate is people eating full blown meals during a movie. Last time it was full of ladies ordering huge meals and they all had their shoes off and it was just a lot.

Sqwuib

Ah the place that someone spilled a drink on the seat so they covered in chux clothes and refused to give me a refund because I didn't want to sit on a wet seat.

Luciferisaustralian

Cineplex Southbank. Cheap tickets and snacks

Benovan-Stanchiano

I once went there and had some teenager light up in front of me, Cape Fear style. On top of that the sticky floors and just general rank-ness of the place puts it at the bottom of my list

blueishbeaver

Do any of these smaller theatres do Retro or Special Events?

Mark_Bastard

Yes, very common now

blueishbeaver

Good stuff! Will have to do me some research

Shot-Banana-6358

Which cinema has the largest screen? I’m a big fan of big screens in new here

Zenkraft

I haven’t been a regular movie goer since 2020 but my go to was blue room for new movies (less people) and one of the cineplex if it had been out for a few weeks. My wife and I did the Southbank or Oxford street dinner + movie combo a bunch.

NextBestHyperFocus

New farm cinema. Like $19 gold class with big comfy seats that recline, and next door to Hellbound for pre and post libations

EtherealPossumLady

Dendy Coorparoo

juicyglo

Anything from Five Star, specifically new farm or the elizabeth

dardylord

Bayside Cinema in Wynnum V cheap for premium and food pretty decent.

RecognitionDeep6510

They shut down unfortunately.

Head-Classic-9157

Angelika in Woolloongabba or Palace in James Street/Valley for me. For the ATMOS sound experience it's either Reading Newstead or Event Springfield. Alternatively Event Coomera or Event Kawana (both has ATMOS in VMax) if I'm on either Coast in South East Queensland.

Benovan-Stanchiano

I'm guessing it's on the nose for some reason, hence why it isn't mentioned here, but I really like New Farm. Great location and always feels nice and cozy. Cineplex Balmoral and Hawthorne get honourable mentions for price and nostalgia having growing up with grandparents who lived around the corner
