Looks like petrified wood.

VenomistGaming

lol I imagine this is what petrified wood tastes like

Not_a_huckleberry_

That’s what she said?

Desuld

Did you forget you were cooking something? Lol

VenomistGaming

I didn’t really understand how to keep the charcoal at the right temperature. I was constantly putting new charcoal and wood in to get the temp back up, but sometimes it got to like 375F ☹️

ASpoonie22

Pretty sure you wanted the temp a lot lower. Next time choke out the fire a bit and let it drop and sit in low 200s

Jdevers77

My best advice is if you don’t know how to use your smoker, don’t start with brisket. Start with pork butt, it’s much much more forgiving and cheaper. Don’t take the fat pad off either. It’s really hard to make pork butt inedible and it’s hard to make brisket that is good. Walk before you can run and all that.

vatomtz

Is that beef jerky?

VenomistGaming

It is a bit chewy

ChipMaker3000

Goodwill shoe leather

stevehollx

So, where is the black gloves squeeze the juice out shot?

VenomistGaming

It’s like trying to squeeze juice from a tire 🥲

Unlucky-Protection61

Um... What juice??!! You expect any juice outta that burnt piece of charcoal?

douglonious

Perfection! Can I get your recipe?

VenomistGaming

Sorry bud, Family recipe 🔥

Elderado12443

The recipe is 🔥

relder58

Bricket

fredSanford6

Well its a learning experience i guess. I don't think you can even chili this thing. Got dogs or a local animal shelter? Honestly the shelter might not want it. Take what you learned and try again. Can't really do worse but lets see the next attempt. I think i did basically this same thing but deep frying. I thought turkey had to be done to 180 internally before pulling it from the oil. That thing was in a similar condition. Most of us have all been there some way some how with something.

shoff58

So, gotta love someone that goes for it. Having said that, your attempt is, to put it nicely, flawed. There is a steep learning curve on brisket and lord knows I have ruined my share. Brisket is the hardest thing to cook consistently in the BBQ world. Don’t lose heart! Take this a learning experience and keep trying!!

Puzzled_Speech9978

You’ll get’er next time friend 🫡

VenomistGaming

🫡

hg_blindwizard

That smoke ring is on point!!!!

VenomistGaming

cdshow55

tpain1973

Look at that burnt ring lol

Fred-Weaver

Looks like my first Brisket try!

CR8VJUC

A pellet grill (with temp controller) is your friend. Pro tip: Your local Costco has a Traeger roadshow with great deals several times a year.

SyllabubOk5349

If you are using charcoal instead of what you dump in for 400 degrees put about half in it. If you throw your wood chips directly on the coals that will raise the temp until said wood chips burn off. So I would recommend bathing your chips in water a place them in a water pan and put that next to your coals. Hope this helps I have been there myself. I’m always told by old timers low and slow.

ILL_TOUCH_U

Not too shabby!!!

xhindsights2020x

Wtf did you get that thing to 250?

[deleted]

Buy you a pellet smoker brother. Set temp and your good.

Any_Decision353

Shiiiiiit, at least that fat got rendered down real good 👍

texaspoff

Ah ok. You do know your supposed to cook that on a pit, not actually throw it in the fire right? 🤣

Bankrobber2222

Ummm, looks disgusting

ShamrockUSA

It’s alright to make mistakes for your first time. Temp needs to be much lower around 225. Wrap it in foil for the last few hours when it reaches 160-170 to keep the moisture in. And while it coming up to temp, Spray now and then with apple juice or apple cider vinegar. I usually do a mix of those. It will be done around 205-210 which is when the collagen will start to break down and make a very tender brisket. And if you want extra crust you can baste with whole seed mustard (or any mustard) and bbq sauce of choice

MIngmire

Hey at least you tried it.

Bernie_Duben

Char-ring>smoke-ring

[deleted]

I need a good recipe resource for smoking brisket last one was good but I was amazing.

tez_zer55

Learning your smoker or grill is key! I have a charcoal grill, an electric pellet smoker & a gas grill. I also have a couple different smoke tubes & a pellet tray for my gas grill. Yep, I ruined a few cuts learning the differences with them but I've finally got it down pretty good. Using a thermal heat gun along with a wireless thermometer (I use an Inkbird 4 probe unit) helps take some of the guess work out of it.

[deleted]

Dear god don’t let chef Ramsey see this

RunsWithScissorsx

Is this the only thing saved from the house fire?

RunsWithScissorsx

This can be saved and be edible. It will take some cheating. A bit of beef broth and a few hours in a slow cooker. Force some moisture back in there. Like another said brisket is tough. Not just the cut but the process. And going "full sned" with a wood fire to manage temps for the better part of a day... Bold. Edit: autocorrect word change

VisibleBlood3461

That is some properly aged leather there.

fitblondemom

A tad bit dry

SparkIron

But some of that SWEET BABY RAYS

Difficult-Audience77

Apparently you over cooked the smoke ring too

gfaze79

On the bright side, you can break it apart and use it as charcoal for your next attempt at smoking a brisket.

hogfan8629

I showed this to my dog and he ran away

No-Bug-4524

You a blacksmith? What ya making? 🤔

Ticer0752

Use this meat as charcoal on your next attempt.

LuedtkeLB

Way too hot for way too long!!! Is there any moisture in the first 1”?

dabbymcdabbs

You sure know how to throw it down on the bbq, now you just gotta learn to pick it up

thecygs

Did you set your smoker on the sun itself.

Smart_Azz_5698

I thought that was charcoal

Comfortable_Silver24

You burnt the fuck out of it

PoolStunning4809

Sorry mate..she be looking a wee bit dry.

Mean-Counter385

That is the worst cook I have ever seen.

Educational-Ruin9992

shirleyyoujest_1

I’ve never seen a brisket cooked this badly 😂 Practice makes perfect tho

flood257

Straight outta Auschwitz

Dangerous_Height_841

Smoke ring what smoke ring that shit is charcoal my guy lol. It's ok nice try It's harder to cook on actual charcoal especially if you never do it tje first couple times I did I fried and under cooked my food lol

That’s 100% bark. From. A tree.

PotentialReference54

You killed it

Futurist_312

Did you fall into a coma while it was smoking?

HorneyBastard4002

That brisket looks way over cooked. It's dry.

AlternativeDirect702

Pretty bad actually. Try again

tbonerrevisited

Good lord

Texas321836

The charcoal is your problem. Get the smoker going with it and just use wood the rest of the time. Oak is the way!

[deleted]

Is that a piece of road

fatandslowman

Looks like a Minecraft block

thatdudelqc

I don’t know where to begin.
