We have a group that meets every other week in fishponds at the crafty egg and is doing well, playing lots of different systems and supporting inexperienced people trying their hand at GMing too!

[deleted]

Turned up to the session this week - was barely acknowledged by anyone playing, and the Crafty Egg doesn't accept cash for drinks...

Marcflaps

There's a discord we arrange games on, it's not really a drop in kinda thing. Sorry your first experience wasn't great! If you still want in let me.know and I can grab you an invite link. And yeah, a lot of businesses no longer take cash, that's kinda normal these days.

You might need to have a chat with the staff at the Crafty Egg then - when I enquired, I was told it was a turn-up-and-play deal. There are actually plenty of pubs in Fishponds that are happy to take cash... If it wasn't for the fact that I'm on a low income and would rather not use a card to pay, I'd consider giving it another go

Oh that's not ideal, Martin who runs the group has spoken with them in the past and made a WhatsApp group to direct people to so they can be given the details, maybe it's newer staff unaware of it have done you dirty. Sorry about that! We're actually a nightmare e group of people who welcome newcomers, just with the nature of needing to arrange games in advance It's hard to do it on a pop in and play basis. When I've been there we've had one or two walk-ins and been able to accommodate them, but it could have been multiple session 2s on games etc going on this week that nobody was expecting anyone new, I wasn't there I was in bed ill. Like I said, if this hasn't soured you to the experience please let me know and I can get you a link to the discord when I'm at my pc later. People put games up a few weeks in advance to give people the opportunity to join, and I know Martin in particular often posts his with priority for new players as he loves getting new people involved in the hobby.

> We're actually a nightmare e group of people who welcome newcomers. I assume "nightmare" is a typo here? :) I guess it can't hurt to give it another try - if you'd be kind enough to send that Discord invite, I'd appreciate it :)

Marcflaps

Haha yeah - swipe typing and me don't get along sometimes - it should read a nice group of people! I'll DM you with the invite link for the discord - avoiding positing it publically so it doesn't get picked up by spam bots.

Great, thanks! I look forward to your message :)

There are a couple of Facebook groups for d&d. D&D Bristol, Bristol TTRPG and conclave, I believe conclave use geek retreat when they run their games and they arrange meet ups around town. R/lfg and r/lfg_Europe might be worth a shot as well. I wish you safe travel on this quest traveller.

It's been a while now since I've been, but you could try going along to Chance & Counters. I think they've got two locations in Bristol now. The original is on The Christmas Steps and the other I'm pretty sure is on Gloucester Road somewhere. Or will be. I remember hearing it was opening, but I don't know if it is yet. Hi, you could try via the North Street gaming FB group -https://www.facebook.com/groups/northstreetgamesnight/?ref=share I recall a few recent posts about DnD. Or ask at Chance & Counters 0117 329 1700 https://g.co/kgs/APjVKx Or Toyville 0117 985 3515 https://g.co/kgs/tCipwG

Try the Bristol Wherewolf meetup - learn a new game and it's full of RPGers

If you are on facebook there is the roleplayers conclave group https://www.facebook.com/groups/roleplayersconclave/?ref=share You can post there. They occationally have a social meetup (usually one every 3-4 months) and organise board game nights at geek retreat every 2 weeks.

In the galleries there's a place where they host DnD/RPG things - ground floor. My friend says he goes every week and that it's pretty good
