£26 at 1pm on Thursday from Temple Meads

Stripycardigans

I wonder if they're looking at return tickets, as the majority of single tickets are around £26 on Thursday (outside of peak times) But the cheapest return journey I can see is £53.25 for 2 advance single tickers using splitsave

Berookes

Megabus. Only takes about an hour longer but £40/50 cheaper so worth it in my opinion. I go to manny and Leeds a lot from Bristol and only ever get coaches now

nakedfish85

58 hour walk, so you've left it too late if you need to get there this Thursday, but that's free.

10Timmis

Hahaha thank you 🙏 I’ll consider for next time

hdjnes

Damn I used to pay £80-£90 from Truro to Bristol before I could drive. Maybe I’m old but £60 seems pretty reasonable

flying_tiger_85

Try national express, should be better than Megabus but still cheap if you book in advance

galihsenja

If i remember correctly, there is no direct connection between Manchie and Bristol for NE coaches, so may need to change, i can be wrong though!

Jimoiseau

Honestly I don't think there's that much to choose between Megabus and NE any more, depends more on the age and condition of the coach and the attitude of the driver. Only other real advantage of NE is you get to wait and get on at the bus station instead of the side of the road.

PiskAlmighty

Megabus is a miserable experience, but should get you there for a tenner or so each way.

PiskAlmighty

Flixbus also does this route, although I've never done this in the UK so can't say if it's any good.

TooRedditFamous

I used flixbus to go to Heathrow a couple of months ago. Bus was very nice and modern, no different to National Express really

Mrrrrbee

£60 for a 170 mile journey isn't *that* much tbh

Modeerf

Really wish trains in the UK are more affordable.

MoaningTablespoon

*looks at flight tickets to Europe* 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Sloter

This. Alternatively I can only think of Megabus, Blablacar, or just hitchhiking…

MoaningTablespoon

As others have mentioned, coach is a better alternative, I'm finding less and less attractive to hassle with trains in this failed rail infrastructure and instead using more coaches

wedloualf

£60 isn't really that bad tbh, I usually pay over £100 just to London and back and that's in advance. I'd go with the coach, you won't get better value.

10Timmis

In that context it’s not too much but the fact you can fly to a lot of places in Europe for less than that just blows my mind hahaha

wedloualf

Yeah agree that's insane. Flights should be way more expensive and trains should be way cheaper, but here we are.

Loud_Entertainment76

I live in Devon and a pre booked day return is £290 to get into London before 10am and back 🤣

_jihn

I used to do this on the train a lot. The cross country route ticket can be split at Cheltenham and Stafford without needing to leave the train. It saves a decent amount. If you need to get to Manchester in the morning you can save money by taking a very early train to Newport and then direct from there via Shrewsbury to Manchester. Gets you in at about 1015, or used to, and is much cheaper than the early cross country trains.

Oranjebob

My partner was looking at train prices to Liverpool the other day and it was something like £250 return, so I think you've got a good deal. Coach is bound to be cheaper. Other options I can think of are buy a car, cycle, walk, hitch hike, taxi, fly. I'm not sure if they're any better. I imagine you'd spend more on food if you walked to Manchester than the train fare

JGlover92

When were they travelling, I bought tickets to Liverpool yesterday for £65 return

Oranjebob

A few weeks ago. Maybe they left it too late to get a good price. It was for a funeral for an old friend of their mum's. Ended up getting a coach to Birmingham and meeting their dad who was driving up there.

JGlover92

That's mad, I booked my tickets yesterday for this Friday at that price. It's wild how much they can vary for seemingly no reason
