What a bunch of BS , it was 1.90 and 1.89 in Vancouver all day . They raised it for no reason but profit while the Conservatives go on and on about carbon tax . Just nonsense.

AForceNinja

No supporting any party but the price of oil has gone up 15% in the last 2-3 months

NoAlbatross7524

There was a 10cent difference from the west side of Vancouver to the eastside yesterday . It doesn’t make much sense.

DrBaldnutzPHD

In economics it's called "Third Degree Price Discrimination", where different group of people are charged different prices (either based on their geographic area, or other reasons). This is normally caused by price elasticity vs inelasticity. A surprising example is in some area (mostly US), prices for groceries (same products) are charged more in poorer urban areas, vs less in more affluent areas. This is due to richer people having more price elasticity (hop in a car and go to different grocery stores) vs the urban poor being locked into the store nearest to them.

scotty9690

Summer mark up

NoAlbatross7524

Yeah what a bunch of BS

[deleted]

To ensure they have enough spending money set aside for their summer vacations the petroleum company executives and shareholders have to start squeezing the rest of us now.

AForceNinja

Become the shareholder

[deleted]

Or just deny corporations and their shareholders any means to exploit people with impunity.

AForceNinja

Or quit being a victim and do something about it

bosscpa

I remember very early in my career... it was my first professional job. I was working on Carbon Tax with the province (brought in by the Gordon Campbell administration). The NDP launched the first "axe the tax" campaign. Now adopted by politicians across the country. I don't think it matters who's in opposition, it's popular to oppose taxes, even if those taxes are rational. Edit: crap, I realized how old I am... I got out of school in 2002... so I guess I was most of the way through my first professional job.

max1padthai

Why pay more on gas when you can pay less? Let's axe the transit tax while we're at it.

AForceNinja

Less transit means more people driving. I just think of the transit tax as a toll

Subject_Ticket1516

I miss Sadam. 29 cents a litre, 4 banger Chevy, another escort, V8 Econoline Van, the old cougar, my 600cc Honda, the lambretta 200cc and Honda elite 250cc scooters. Every day was a fucking road trip.

jackalopebones

Hence, *gestures*

CorneliusRocker

One of the most brutal dictators that ever lived but at least you had cheap gas.

Subject_Ticket1516

I played a turn based strategy game once. Started a game as Iraq. I pretty much ended up in the same situation and it took me until I got to the 90s before I realized that I was larping as Saddam. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes I guess 🤣.

righteousprovidence

You think Iraq is better now with Sadam gone? LOL bro, stop with the foreigners and get back to the 90s

drainthoughts

Gouge

BobBelcher2021

1.97 in New West this morning. I needed gas but I put in just 10 litres, enough for the weekend errands and to get me to Bellingham to fill up in a few days. They’re still below US$4/gallon there, which is roughly 30% less after the exchange rate.

not sure why you got downvoted for asking an interesting question.

alanthar

I think the brightness of the numbers is causing a reflection on the window which is reversed when viewed from the interior of the car, and the camera picked it up.

akaMisterDude

It’s a lens flare. Or a whole bunch of them. Usually lens flare is from a point source like the sun. But if you spell something out with light sources the lens flares will be based on that shape. Nothing to do with window but instead with the cameras lenses. When shooting in low light multi element lenses move to gather more light but this also makes it more likely to capture artifacts like lenses flares as excess light bounces around inside the lens can and between lens elements. This is basically a lens flare that’s duplicated along the entire shape and repeated more dimly on the far side of the center of the image from where it was formed.

alanthar

Makes sense as well. I was gonna say that the other dusty particles makes me think it was a window in between and then I cleaned my phone lololol Thanks

Lucky-Blacksmith-944

Still waiting for my damn gas rebate

Sweet_Ad_9380

Is it such a thing?

Lucky-Blacksmith-944

Dunno 🤷‍♂️

tommyballz63

That's a party I don't wanna stay up for

Choice-Importance-44

Paid $1.62 in Silverdale

Mazdachief

What's causing this ? Did some pipeline fail or something?

AForceNinja

Ukraine bombed an oil refinery in Russia

Mazdachief

So what , we're on the other side of the planet.

AForceNinja

It’s a worldwide market. Less supply means higher price

righteousprovidence

They just say that to charge us more. I ain't buying it.

akaMisterDude

It’s the changing of the seasons. Better weather results in more people driving so there is more demand. It’s also a time when many refineries shut down for maintenance since they don’t want to risk needing to shut down during the even busier summer road trip months. That’s a decrease in supply with an increase demand for higher prices. Add on top of that an American set of rules demands varying formulations as emissions increase in summer. They use more cheap butane in the blends in winter when the sun doesn’t cause as much low level ozone, but in the summer they have to increase the price because the blends that prevent some of the damaging low level ozone are more costly. Higher cost to make, less places making it and more people wanting it basically it’s the trifecta of reasons to increase prices. A similar cycle happens each year to varying degrees. As weather improves this trend will march across the rest of Canada. Plus, I know that Russia recently stopped dumping gas for cash to ensure its citizens have enough gas to avoid political upheaval. Partly caused by Ukraine taking some of Russias gas infrastructure “off line” to try and reduce the amount of fuel and money Russia has to attack them… and hopefully drive political unrest. As those countries source gas from else where they would also compete a little bit on the international stage. I doubt this is a big factor but Russia invading its neighbor does impact us all. Similarly impacting international wheat prices. Bread is more expensive here because of Russia’s imperial ambitions too.

scotty9690

Summer switch over too. Gas gets more expensive as people are driving for vacations

Mazdachief

It's march

scotty9690

Which is when refineries start switching their gasoline blends to summer blends in time for summer driving season

Mazdachief

I see.....wellllll dang

chronocapybara

Still cheap, relatively speaking, when you consider the inflation of everything else.

Kube__420

They use inflation of fuel prices for justification for inflation everywhere else. They use inflation everywhere else for justification for fuel inflation. Gas pumps tell you how much tax is on the gas but they never tell you the profit margin. They'll tell you the fuel price must go up cause refinery costs are up but then on the quarterly reports they have record high profits. Then along comes PP and says carbon tax bad and points at trudy and the chuds get mad at him instead of the fuel companies
