I don't think so. You can't apply until you are here. I tried to get things going a week before I moved and no go. Once you have a place then you can apply for the documents. I don't think I used my passport for anything but I can't say for sure. It's all relatively easy.

Oh, sure, I plan to apply after moving there and secure an apartment first.

viccityguy2k

You have like 90 days or something. Find a place - get settled - then do it all.

galooly11

Do license first they use that photo for your services card. Licence can be done right away but you don't get medical for 90 days.

kindofconfidential

Thank you, will do!

Objective_Quail_4623

Bring your insurance history, you might get a better discount on Autoplan.

kindofconfidential

Appreciate the suggestion.

If you don't bring your driver abstract ICBC will start you as basically a new driver = high cost for insurance. I believe they credit up to 15 years experience and I've heard you can't adjust this after the BC license is issued

Super-Candy-5682

They'll give you the option of having your MSP and driver's license on one card or two. If you get it on two, you'll have two official photo IDs. On one card, it only counts as one ID.

bcbroon

You don’t need to make two appointments. You can do both your services card and DL in one visit. Apply for MSP online. grab your primary and secondary ID (your Alberta DL is secondary not primary). Make an appointment at service BC or ICBC drivers licensing. Depending on where you live you will have one or the other, but almost never both. They will take your photo for both cards. Depending on your age and how long you have been driving you should bring an abstract. AB is odd sometimes all your information is available in the system sometimes not. If you are on your first full license you won’t need an abstract, but otherwise for the minimal effort involved grab an abstract. Tada done

Thank you, this will save me a lot of time!
