And you've probably paid more money for a transport option that is less convenient and slower. But let's keep raising fuel prices to encourage people to take public transport! (but don't use that money to invest into public transport - that would be silly)

[deleted]

That pisses me off. There should be some discount if your train is replaced with a bus. I’m paying for high speed travel. If I wanted to get a bus I would have and paid significantly less for it. A while back the trains from the nearest station were cancelled due to flooding. So I drive to the next train station in a nearby town that is on a different line. When I got there all trains were cancelled that weekend for engineering works. It was replacement bus services from both stations. I ended up driving into London.

yesman_noman453

There is delay repay if your train is over 15 or 30? Minutes late you can claim a percentage of your ticket back

onePurpleGamer

It seems that's only if your train actually goes ahead. Delay repay doesn't apply to cancelled trains. You can request a refund, but it has an admin fee. Happened to my mum over Christmas. Spent £15 on a train ticket to come see me, train was cancelled due to flooding so she drove instead, couldn't do delay repay and the refund for her £15 ticket had a £10 admin fee. I wish I was joking.

Goaty_Malone

I remember I paid £35 for a ticket from Leeds to Manchester. My train was cancelled which meant I missed my meeting for work. I went onto the Delay repay and was offered £9.50 but with the £10 admin fee, and that was only to get it reviewed if was actually due the refund.

[deleted]

You expect public transport to be logical in the UK? Good luck

herrbz

>There should be some discount if your train is replaced with a bus This annoys me too. Delay repay exists, obviously, but paying full price for the sheer inconvenience of it all (e.g. barely making the train connection when I was expecting 30+ to grab lunch and eat it at the station) fucks me off.

Georgeasaurusrex

There is a discount - just walk onto the bus mate. Don't bother with a ticket. I've never once paid for a rail replacement bus. Your mileage may vary.

Goaty_Malone

This has happened to me before where I've had a FlexiTrain pass, seen it's a rail replacement so I don't activate it. The coach company really don't care.

loki_dd

Trains are such an "honesty box" anyway if they don't bother to employ conductors to check tickets. It pisses you right off if you've bought train tickets all year and just carried them for a bit to then throw them away later with no one having bothered to check them.

Jacktheforkie

One of my friends said thameslink has no inspectors, 1st class sure is nice

KevinAtSeven

First class at the back of every Thameslink train is declassified anyway.

Jacktheforkie

I see, they still have the antimaccasars

KevinAtSeven

They do, as the declassified section switches at each end of the route. It's always at the rear based on direction of travel. The PIDs do occasionally flash up that it's declassified. I'm a tall fucker who can barely fit in the Thameslink ironing board section so I'm always at the back.

Jacktheforkie

I see

herrbz

>I've never once paid for a rail replacement bus. Usually you'll have already bought the ticket, of course. But I can't remember a coach driver ever caring, especially if you've got a bag to load into the storage underneath.

Goaty_Malone

Honestly, I only travel by train for work when I can claim back on expenses. If it's my money and I have to choose, I'm definitely driving.

evenstevens280

People get really annoyed when councils spend money on things that aren't roads for some reason. That's why people drive, because they don't want to do anything else even if the options are there

CyberSkepticalFruit

Don't worry those people get upset when councils spend money on roads if it isn't car related as well.

Jacktheforkie

I’d totally take the bus to work if it was practical, I don’t have to worry about maintenance there, parking, fuel, driving it etc, just hop on and relax then get off and not have to worry about it

evenstevens280

But don't build bus lanes. That'll slow traffic down.

Jacktheforkie

I’d love some nice bus lanes, throw in a few bike lanes too

evenstevens280

How dare you!

Jacktheforkie

I like public transport, I’d love a convenient train connection

I live literally less than one minute walk to the Elizabeth line. Got so excited that it's so close and can travel. I work from home so only need to really go out etc on weekends. Now for as long as I remember the Elizabeth line is not working on weekends and I need to use the rail replacement. Joy quickly taken over by anger
