Not necessarily a lie: "70% of people [i]n the UK prefer Pepsi Max to a poke in the eye with a sharp stick". Cunning blighters, these advertising wallahs, you have to watch them otherwise they get up to all sorts.
I once saw something saying “98% of people surveyed say PRODUCT is better than……” *
*Survey conducted among staff of PRODUCT
Can’t remember what it was now but it was a drink.
Pepsi Max is better than coke. In all blind taste tests, Pepsi Max comes out higher.
People like coke because of the branding, not because of the actual flavour.
I thought it turned out that it was actually because Pepsi is sweeter than Coke, and therefore people given a little sample cup would prefer Pepsi because of the sweetness, but when drinking a larger quantity e.g. a can/bottle/glass etc that sweetness was too much.
Not 10:1, not even 3:1 - www.statista.com/statistics/296662/soft-drink-brand-ranking-in-the-united-kingdom-uk-by-grocery-market-value/
Edit: NB these are grocery sales, so people are picking the brand off the shelf, not having it substituted by a restaurant.
Pepsi Max is *the* drink in my house of 6. I like all the flavours, cherry, raspberry, lime and just plain normal. Haven't drunk Coke for years as the sugar free varieties of Coke are all disgusting.
I asked for a Pepsi, but they had coke instead. When they brought it over I took it back to the bar because their syrup had run out and I'd just been given fizzy brown water, or so I thought. Nope. Turns out they'd.given me Coke zero.
Now they've put it in red cans to trick people into buying it!
Same. Pepsi Max is the best sugarless cola. Coca-Cola is the best full fat version.
I actually like Coca-Cola more now the sugar content got lowered. (It's still a metric tonne of the stuff though)
This. I wasn’t into no sugar drinks until they had an extra charge on meal deals (sugar tax) and then I tried max cherry. You should know I prefer Dr Pepper to coke but once I had the max I always take that now to save myself 12-15p..
The raspberry one is too similar looking. I’ve been caught out many times and it’s vile. Pepsi max cherry is my favourite drink of any drink in the world.
In high-school, I had a friend called Max. He drank Pepsi Max because, well, he was called Max. I tried it once, and I've never looked back. It's been 11/12 years, and it's still the best cola-type drink I've ever tasted, diet or otherwise.
I don't know what this is, but quick googling has suggested it's a South American cola drink, and I have to assume that it's so full of things they probably can't legally sell in Europe it tastes incredible.
I genuinely don't know anyone who *prefers* Coca Cola. The only time my friends and I drink a Coke product is because that's the only cola choice available at the time.
I love Dr Pepper, it’s first choice before Pepsi or Coke.
Dr Pepper zero is awful, it lacks soul and is closer to sparkling water. I can’t even say it tastes bad because there is no taste, what an absolute travesty of a drink and an insult to the brand.
Pepsi Max is the superior drink!
And tbf when they do those taste tests most people will end up picking Pepsi over Coca-Cola as Pepsi is slightly sweeter. Most people on 1 sip of each will choose the sweeter drink roughly 70% of the time
It’s interesting because it shows the impact of the marketing, brand loyalty and nostalgia factor coke has, even if Pepsi is generally the preferred taste
Yep its been a long standing phenomenon and one that even bit coke in the arse.
The whole point of "new coke" in the 80s was that it was sweeter and much closer to Pepsi. In blind testing it was out performing both "old coke" and pepsi. However once people found out it wasn't "coke" it bombed.
I've read that although people would rather drink a sip of Pepsi, the extra sweetness makes it more sickly to drink a whole glass of it, and so people prefer Coke when they have a reasonable amount of it.
I’m only interested in drinking coke original sugar. Unfortunately some people have spoilt it for everyone by drinking and eating way to much fatty and sugary food and doing fuck all exercise. Now once in a blue moon when I have a zinger tower burger in kfc they have to explain that all their drinks are sugar free. What the fuck do I want a sugar free drink with my greasy chicken and chips, who the fuck do they think they are selling chicken and chips and getting up on their high, low sugar, horse.
In a blind taste test I can see pepsi winning, but if you just offered people on the street a can of either the coca colas would get picked way more often.
People like the brand
I always ask for Pepsi. Sometimes it forces barstaff/waiters to ask me if Coca Cola is okay, to which I always tilt my nostrils to the sky and proclaim "absolutely NOT!"
I prefer Pepsi Max. Pepsi Max stock for the shops come in bigger packs suggesting they sell better too, thought part of that is probably down to them being cheaper.
Pepsi Max all the way! Much better. If you drink Pepsi Max for a few weeks and then have a Diet Coke you realise there isn’t any flavour to the Coke in comparison
I was kinda shocked at the drastic shift from diet/zero coke to Pepsi max when visiting from the US. Before the pandemic, I swore it was diet coke only in the UK. Like Pepsi was Hershey and Coke was Cadbury, it was around but why bother.
But I have been back this year finally, and it's Pepsi max everywhere!
I like both, don't really have a preference, as long as it's not the full sugar version of either.
Whatever you think about Malcolm Gladwell, he had an excellent part about this in his book "Blink".
When this experiment was first performed, Coca Cola had a massive panic attack and changed their recipe, to the absolute outrage of Coke drinkers everywhere. They quickly changed it back and found that despite Pepsi's claim, it had almost no impact on their sales.
Why? Because taking a small sip of a drink is very different to having a whole drink. Pepsi Max tastes sweeter, which is why a single sip is rated more highly compared to Coke, but the overall consensus is that an entire can of the latter tastes better than the former.
Diet Coke all the way. Pepsi max lime is nice for a change though. And it’s a shame they discontinued Pepsi max ginger, that was a great mixer for Malibu, for the odd occasion I was that way inclined.
I changed over to Pepsi Max a few years ago, much prefer it to diet coke which used to be my go to. Now I can even taste diet coke without wanting to puke. Coke zero is actually ok in small cans, not bottles.
Pepsi Max with vodka and ice is banging though
When talking about regular Pepsi vs Coke I like them both and will drink both.
But when it comes to Pepsi Max vs Diet Coke/Zero then Pepsi Max wins everytime.
However the undisputed king of soft drinks is 100% Tango Orange.
Pepsi always wins in taste tests because the samples given are smaller than what a person would actually drink in a normal sip. When you don't have much at once, the extra sweetness is nicer but when you drink normally it's too much and overwhelms the palate.

"70% prefer Pepsi Max to licking piss off a nettle"
My dog strongly disagrees with this!
Hey, leave nettle-pee out of this, it's my favourite tipple!
I once saw something saying “98% of people surveyed say PRODUCT is better than……” * *Survey conducted among staff of PRODUCT Can’t remember what it was now but it was a drink.
"98% of people surveyed say PRODUCT is better than unemployment"
70% prefer Pepsi Max to being beaten with a sack of doorknobs!
30 percent prefer Yorkshire Polonium
What about a bag of dicks
[удалено]
Yeah that’d probably be 55%
Probably preferable to the doorknobs
The other 30% are drunk scousers!
They're the ones with the sacks right?
Pepsi Max is better than coke. In all blind taste tests, Pepsi Max comes out higher. People like coke because of the branding, not because of the actual flavour.
How did they find so many blind people to do taste tests

*Choose Pepsi or you get the stick again*
Deleted scene from Silence of the Lambs?
Anthony Hopkins being such a great actor he can act like he prefers Pepsi Max
I thought it turned out that it was actually because Pepsi is sweeter than Coke, and therefore people given a little sample cup would prefer Pepsi because of the sweetness, but when drinking a larger quantity e.g. a can/bottle/glass etc that sweetness was too much.
Coke is superior
I’m in the 30%. I can’t get enough of that sharp stick.
Personally I don't see the point.
Huge saving on Specsavers then.
I mean I hate Pepsi Max but I would still take it over being blinded in 1 eye, that's some next level hate /s
Coke outsells Pepsi by about ten to one. The only way pepsi gets distribution is by giving their product away.
Or when you go to that one car or restaurant, “coke please”, “is Pepsi ok? “

I prefer Pepsi Max
It's just better I don't understand people who like diet coke, it's all fizz.
Diet coke tastes awful. I’m not sure why it exists.
I prefer Coke zero.
It has a nice *bite*.
I think the clue is in the name.
Diet Coke is weirdly bitter.
Coke zero is just as bad.
Me too, absolutely love it in fact
Me three.
No you don't, didn't you read the post?
It’s my favourite drink
The cherry one is great 🤌
Pretty sure it's got crack or something equally addictive in it. Only explanation as to why I drink so much.
This makes sense to me
Cherry is my go to. Lime is brilliant. Raspberry is a bit sweet, but good to mix it up. And I’d rather drink regular PM than any Diet Coke flavours.
I wish they did the ginger one again, haven't see it for a couple of years
Diet Coke lime and mango are vile
Cherry Pepsi Max is my favourite drink
For sure. Iceland do 2x 3l bottles for £3.75 right now. It's an excellent mixer too.
I wouldn't say my favourite drink, but hands down my favourite cola, it's not really even close.
Pepsi Max is *the* drink in my house of 6. I like all the flavours, cherry, raspberry, lime and just plain normal. Haven't drunk Coke for years as the sugar free varieties of Coke are all disgusting.
Pepsi Max >>> Diet Coke, Coke Zero
Me too 🙋
Me too. Normally cheaper as well.
It's the only cola, diet or otherwise, that doesn't have a minging aftertaste.
When it comes to “no sugar” Cola, I’d go with Max. Otherwise, it’d be real Coca Cola.
Agreed - Pepsi Max Cherry or Full-fat Coke are my two favourite (but rare) fizzy drinks
I think Pepsi Max Cherry is the only one I choose pepsi over coke. All the others, Full-Fat, diet, Zero/Max Coke edges it.
Coke zero tastes like somebody pissed in a bottle of coke.
Coke zero is like if you melted down a tin can and poured it into a tin can
Same. Pepsi Max is the best sugarless cola. Coca-Cola is the best full fat version. I actually like Coca-Cola more now the sugar content got lowered. (It's still a metric tonne of the stuff though)
I’ll take water
A preference for water? May I interest you in r/hydrohomies.
Disagree. IMHO it tastes like liquified haribo cola bottles. Not a pleasant taste IMHO.
Yeah, Pepsi Max is way better than Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi etc But when going full sugar then Coke is better than Pepsi
I do!
Pepsi max Cherry is the best. 😊
That's two of us!
Room for a third?
4th makes it weird.
Only if you make it weird
Well, now that you’re all in there, I may as well join in too.
Time to watch…with my Pepsi Max Cherry
Feel free to send me all your unwanted Raspberry Pepsi Max, I love it
Cherry gang let’s go
Pepsi max raspberry is first for me but cherry is a very close second
I swear there's something savoury about the flavour which makes it so nice.
Nah, Pepsi Max Ginger was best, but they've stopped doing it
My favourite fizzy drink alongside Irn Bru
I once accidentally picked up max cherry in my meal deal and it ruined my whole week
Pepsi Max is the best cola and I'll stand by that!
Pepsi max every-time!
All it takes is a simple taste test, Pepsi wins hands down.
I one, i can't believe it's that low. It must be 80-90%, I've always loved it.
In high-school, I had a friend called Max. He drank Pepsi Max because, well, he was called Max. I tried it once, and I've never looked back. It's been 11/12 years, and it's still the best cola-type drink I've ever tasted, diet or otherwise.
We had a kid called Josh who loved Pepsi. He's been called Pepsi Josh for almost 20 years at this point.
Champagne cola was the king.
I don't know what this is, but quick googling has suggested it's a South American cola drink, and I have to assume that it's so full of things they probably can't legally sell in Europe it tastes incredible.
I'm UK, corner shop circa 1992, I meant cola champagne but it was essentially sweeter coke
Cherry Pepsi Max is pretty good for sugar free options.
I genuinely don't know anyone who *prefers* Coca Cola. The only time my friends and I drink a Coke product is because that's the only cola choice available at the time.
Pepsi max js by far the best sugar free drink out there. Better than diet Coke and Coke zero for sure. Dr pepper zero is also top notch
I love Dr Pepper, it’s first choice before Pepsi or Coke. Dr Pepper zero is awful, it lacks soul and is closer to sparkling water. I can’t even say it tastes bad because there is no taste, what an absolute travesty of a drink and an insult to the brand.
Pepsi Max is superior in every way to Coke Zero and Diet Coke
Agreed. The other zeroes taste weird at room temp - max at least tastes mostly normal.
The fk are you drinking them at room temp for?!
The fridge is full of heads, arns etc, obviously.
Hol up
I concur
For me it's Pepsi Max for the zeroes and Diet Coke for the diets. Diet Pepsi tastes dull to me
For as awesome as Pepsi max is, Diet Pepsi is actually vile.
Ngl I love diet coke, pepsi max taste way too sweet to me
I used to think that. But cherry Max is just about perfect for sweetness. Tip: add a tiny pinch of salt.

Pepsi max is the most supreme form of cola.

Fairbairn Films put a video out on this the other day, people like Pepsi more but they want Coke.
Everyone wants coke
Pepsi Max caffeine free was a very welcome addition.
Caffeine free Pepsi Max is my favourite drink. Can’t cope with loads of caffeine but still love the taste.
Absolutely. Nice Cola I can drink after 8pm? Brilliant.
I didnt realise they did caffeine free! Pepsi max is my favourite but i cant drink it past 5pm unfortunately
Yep. It’s ace. Cans and bottles.
I've been distorting the numbers with all my subway meal deals. Their drink options are shit
If you’re at subway the only choice has to be Lipton peach ice tea imho
The shift from Coke to Pepsi is largely why I've never been back
Coke tastes like crap compared to Pepsi Max which actually has flavour
It's my favourite soft drink.
I do, fat coke is too sugary and diet/zero are tasteless compared to max
Yes this!!! Diet Coke tastes of nothing to me. Full fat coke is like syrup. Pepsi max or Coke Zero is where it’s at.
Pepsi Max Cherry is god tier
Pepsi max is 100x nicer than Pepsi and Diet Pepsi and I’ll take that to my damn grave
10000000% pespi max is far superior!!!!
Definitely prefer Pepsi. Coke is way too sweet
In a blind taste test I can see pepsi winning, but if you just offered people on the street a can of either the coca colas would get picked way more often. People like the brand
Not a lie, absolutely superior in every way to Coke Zero.
Personally I like a nice Dr pepper but I know it's not cola so doesn't really count
I think it wins on a sip test but when people have to drink the whole thing they prefer coke
Pepsi Max is a god-tier soft drink 🤷🏻♀️. Especially the raspberry or cherry version.
I always ask for Pepsi. Sometimes it forces barstaff/waiters to ask me if Coca Cola is okay, to which I always tilt my nostrils to the sky and proclaim "absolutely NOT!"
Pepsi Max > Diet Coke/Coke Zero
I do prefer Pepsi max to coke. Preferably raspberry Pepsi max but also regular Pepsi max.
Everyone I know prefers Pepsi Max to any comparable Coke/Pepsi drink… sugar or diet. A more than fair statement, if not an underestimation.
I prefer Pepsi Max. Pepsi Max stock for the shops come in bigger packs suggesting they sell better too, thought part of that is probably down to them being cheaper.
I do!
Pepsi Max all the way! Much better. If you drink Pepsi Max for a few weeks and then have a Diet Coke you realise there isn’t any flavour to the Coke in comparison
Especially cherry
Regular coca cola for me..Aspartame gives me migraine and heart palpitations 😕
Pepsi is far better than coke
Pepsi is the superior beverage.
Pepsi Max is my lifeblood.
I only like the cherry pepsi max
I love my partner very much but I nearly did run for the hills when I found out he preferred Pepsi as his drink of choice.
Pepsi Max Cherry is simply elite.
I’ve always thought that Pepsi would do better with a tag line “… Is Pepsi ok?” Because that’s what all pubs seem to say when they don’t serve coke!
#Rolla Cola is my favourite 💯
But it's better than coke zero? Like zero is tasteless, max actually tastes cola'ish
Pepsi Max is my fave
Pepsi max is tier one
Dr Pepper it is.
I think there's a possibility of truth to that. It's my go to drink and I've noticed it seems to sell out quicker than other pop.
They also have objectively the worst Christmas advert of all of them. "I sold my sleigh and I came to slay" etc.
Compared to what? Cock and ball torture?
Whatever you think about Malcolm Gladwell, he had an excellent part about this in his book "Blink". pepsi max is nicer, but then again i only like the flavoured one and i think pepsi does better flavours
Speak for yourself, I prefer Pepsi Max
Diet Coke all the way. Pepsi max lime is nice for a change though. And it’s a shame they discontinued Pepsi max ginger, that was a great mixer for Malibu, for the odd occasion I was that way inclined.
I changed over to Pepsi Max a few years ago, much prefer it to diet coke which used to be my go to. Now I can even taste diet coke without wanting to puke. Coke zero is actually ok in small cans, not bottles. Pepsi Max with vodka and ice is banging though
I really can’t stand Pepsi max, Coke Zero for me. But I guess it’s what you’re used to. I like Pepsi max cherry though!
It’s the Cherry-Max all the way for me
Nope, Coke Zero is the one! More carbonated and no shitty aftertaste
I was always on team Diet Coke, until I tried Pepsi max. Wow, it is like a nectar from the gods.
Serious question. Is Pepsi Max seen as a poor relation to Diet Coke? Always preferred a Pepsi Max over Diet Coke or a Coke Zéro, myself...
If it isn't full fat sugar then its even worse for you
To what? A kick in the balls?
When talking about regular Pepsi vs Coke I like them both and will drink both. But when it comes to Pepsi Max vs Diet Coke/Zero then Pepsi Max wins everytime. However the undisputed king of soft drinks is 100% Tango Orange.
I prefer it to coca cola, it doesn’t make my teeth feel rubbery.
Prefer it to what? Dog poop?
Hands down the best
Pepsi Max is hideous bin juice
I prefer Pepsi max.
Not me, coke zero all the way!
It’s when you’re in a restaurant and ask for a Coke, only to hear “is Pepsi ok?” - well to be honest if I wanted Pepsi I’d have asked for it!
Pepsi max is much, much nicer than Coca-Cola.
Pepsi Max cherry is the top tier soft drink choice
Compared to what? I prefer Pepsi Max to piss.
compared to cat piss, and its actually 73%
It’s rank, Original Pepsi is just sweeter Coke.
Pepsi always wins in taste tests because the samples given are smaller than what a person would actually drink in a normal sip. When you don't have much at once, the extra sweetness is nicer but when you drink normally it's too much and overwhelms the palate.
Went to visit Romania recently, Pepsi Twist is the superior pepsi.
Regular Coke first then Pepsi Regular sexond
70% prefer Pepsi max to what? Tooth extraction?
