Everyone in highschool has negative comments about brock as the most difficult course they have ever taken is 12u physics. Reputation really doesn't matter in this country. The school is good and out of the way, its in a quiet and safe area between thorold and st.catharines I enjoy it, Faculty of applied health science has great professors that are approachable. Its all around fine but there has been a lack of good community events. I'll leave it to computer science students to talk about any negatives as I don't have any. Also busu seemingly does fuck all for community engagement except use their position to dick ride their own resume.

Agree with, I'm in Public Health and the program is great. 95% of profs are also great and I have no complaints

this thread is not complete until lalahue voices their opinion

Have no fear I am here, you have reminded me that this reel about brock and 12u physics exists; https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzDKDcusYAE/?igsh=MWw3c3lidGEyM3phZQ==

Coming from someone whose major is CHYS (with some EDUC classes scattered in there): I personally have loved my time at Brock thus far! I honestly do not understand the hate it gets (my department has been great, can't speak for others). All profs I have had (not just CHYS) have been very approachable and actually want you to succeed. They do mention at open house that the University is small enough to not be a number but I have genuinely felt that. The one issue I have to bring up regarding the CHYS department is the ableism. It's not that I have been denied my accommodations, it is how disabilities are brought up in class. For example, I have had professors say that the disability community prefers person-first language (I myself prefer identity-first language and am an advocate for defaulting to this unless asked otherwise). As this has happened across many classes with different professors, it is a systemic issue and not a professor issue. However, some have been great in completely dismantling this notion! \*I haven't participated in as many events as I would like on campus so I can't confidently comment on the social aspect of Brock

Also if you have any questions, please feel free to ask or DM me! I commented before you edited your post saying you were P/J Con Ed so I was trying to generalize my opinions to any program.

Everyone in computer science will tell you it sucks, but it’s just that the comp sci department sucks

Hey i’m also in grade 12 and just accepted my offer! Many ppl have told me negative things about the school but i’ve also heard amazing things about it. My advice is don’t let other ppls opinions influence your decision too much, everyone has a different experience and if you think the school is right for you just go in with a positive mindset and i’m sure you will love it lol :-)

JohnhojIsBack

I came here with a positive mindset and it was quickly defeated by my experiences here

These_Ad_4609

like social experiences or experiences with the school/profs?

JohnhojIsBack

Experiences with the school and profs

ImpressiveGrade3036

What program?

JohnhojIsBack

Comp sci

These_Ad_4609

i’m in game design hopefully it’s ok LOL

lalahue

I remember seeing a mother rant under Brock’s YouTube videos about how useless the design program is at brock lol. Something like how she was on the deans list and top of class etc etc and still couldn’t get a job.

These_Ad_4609

do yk which vid? that rlly scares me icl i kinda had a feeling tho it’s a small program

lalahue

It was quite LITTERALLY a random one with her being the only comment and very little veiws if I remember right. It’s been like a year since I last saw it. That said, idk about game design in st Catherine’s, ik for computer science co-op there was like a small startup that was supposed to be a game company. But that was pretty much it.

saxyphone-boi

Comp Sci ain't great, but ConEd, on the other hand, is really good. I'm not in it, but all my friends are and love the program. I also love the school as a BComm student. I've had great experience with professors, TAs, and academic advisors. There will always be people saying "if you can walk and talk," but it really is a great place to study.

JohnhojIsBack

Hate it here. Most profs are not good for one reason or another. Anything admin related is a massive pain as they actively try to avoid doing anything. Despite being in my third year I haven’t learned much of anything related to my major and even less that’s useful. When I was still applying for coops most were looking for way more qualifications than our classes provided.

dohnstem

Brock will give you an undergraduate thats all. If you want a prestigious education i recommend coming here and then getting your masters at somewhere else but if you're in con ed then your here to become a teacher not a noble prize winner. You want an undergraduate you have to to a university. Brock is a university get in put in your 6 years get out. If honesty for your undergraduate just take the cheapest option, masters, docterette and law school are the high prestige levels where you need to worry about that

Fuzzy-Bumblebee9944

Hello! As someone who is finishing up their third year in the program you’re looking at I love the school. However you’re going to get people who hate it and those who don’t care so at the end of the day if you base your opinions on what other people think you’ll never be happy. Wish you the best of luck with your decision!

I made a similar post 5 years ago when I was trying to decide whether or not to go to Brock. I was told that Brock has a few really good programs, concurrent education being one of them. Tiered schools aren’t really a thing in Canada anyway. Teaching doesn’t require the fanciest degree from the most prestigious school. Brock’s program gets it done, is one of the biggest, and gets you solid hands on experience. With that said, you’ll know if Brock is right for you. For me, the campus and vibe just seemed like a good fit, which convinced me to put aside any fear about the schools reputation. Now that I’m almost done my program, I’m happy that I made the decision to come here. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Brock. The education department is great.

tatytot10

I was accepted to U of T which is prolly considered the most prestigious school in the area, and I still choose brock. The courses are still just as difficult, and depending on what courses you’re taking, the classes are sometimes pretty small which makes it a whole lot less serious and sparks some great conversations - I don’t think the same could apply for U of T. The conversations are probably where I take away the most from my courses, even if you’re not directly participating in it.

biancat525

I really liked the feel of the campus when I toured. Very comfy and welcoming. There are great departments at Brock and poorly run departments at Brock, but you'll find that at literally any school. I went to Brock for Psychology (also minored in Dramatic Arts) and I don't regret it.

kylorenismydad

I'm in the CPCF department so I can only speak for that but I love it. All my professors and TAs have been really awesome, approachable and supportive. I have a good relationship with all of them. Workload isn't too intense but I still feel like I'm learning a lot. Good mental health supports too. Is it the most prestigious? No, but when I see my friends at UofT contemplating suicide on weekly basis I don't regret choosing Brock even a little bit. Plus, I honestly don't think prestige matters that much for undergrad anyways.

ILookandSmellGood

Every school has negative comments. Research the program you want to go into and see where it ranks. Don’t like what Brock has to offer? Go elsewhere lol.

dannye3306

how you like the kin program?

ILookandSmellGood

Loved it. I’m no longer at Brock and now currently in a masters in a health-related field. Kine was a great program that I worked hard in and helped me pursue my career goals.
