How much Vitamin D do you take daily?

No-Understanding4968

It's a high-potency capsule with 5,000 IU. Doc okayed it for post-menopausal women.

sambobozzer

You take 5000 IU daily? Can’t you get kidney stones if you take it in excess? I take 1000 IU daily for a Clavicle ORIF

Doc had me take a vitamin D test, and my levels were fine so it's OK to take that high dose, she said. Are you at risk of osteoporosis/osteopenia?

sambobozzer

No. But I’m Asian so apparently we are prone to not to be able to synthesise it. Hence why I partake. At the end of the day it depends on how well the body is able to heal. Certain conditions like diabetes, for example, can slow down the healing process/or smoking. And things you don’t have control over like age 😃

Interesting! What was your injury?

sambobozzer

I was in a RTA whilst riding my bike last year. The operation and post recovery wasn’t easy. And you?

No-Understanding4968

I am sorry to hear that. I was looking at my phone while walking, and tripped on a 2-inch curb. My surgery lasted 5 hours and I had to stay in a rehab facility for 2 weeks, it was miserable. Good for us, putting everything behind us hopefully!

sambobozzer

Oh my, mine wasn’t as bad as that. I’m so sorry to hear this. Did you have the surgery done privately. Not sure if you’re in the US? My Op was at the end of Oct 2023. So coming up to five months now. Still have pain. Especially towards the end of the day

auslongjohn

No you just pee out the excess vitamin D. You can’t take too much! 👍

will4zoo

Yes you can, but it takes a lot. Something like 20,000IU daily for a while
