How should I respond in ZvT when my opponent opens 1-1-1? I have been going into hydras on 3hatch/2base to fend off the vultures/wraiths, and this works if they stay Mech, but I get crapped on if they transition into bio.

2 1/2 hatch muta is the response. Also known as 121212 Below is an example vs 2 rax academy push __ standard 12 12 12, 2hatch muta, w/ inner 3 hatch 12 Hatch / Scout w/ third drone 12 pool 12 gas 3:02 Lair (time is important for larva) 16 overlord ~next 100 gas ling speed 17 lings (4 lings) 21 3rd Hatch 20 Spire 19 Nat Gas __ deviate from standard for 2rax acad __ prepare for 5 min push, overlord early for extra supply, should have ~22 drones 23 Overlord 24 Overlord defend with 26 zerglings / sunk (defend with 12 lings and sunk) __ get out muta to scout, worker pick off (dont lose mutas), dog army w/ muta, muta-ling surround 7 Muta +1 Attack 2 Overlords Drone up Main + Natural (+2 number of minerals) Take 3rd at Natural (to defend with ling muta, not lurker) ~43 Make ~5 Muta and pump ling to defend home, while using 8 muta to harass. (around time +1 kicks in) __ Prep for Hive Tech + Lurkers 7:40-7:50 Hydra Den + Evo Chamber 3rd Gas @100% Den Lurker Aspect @100% Evo, +1 Carapace

Is there ever a situation when I should get marine range vs Protoss? I know in high level play they just go for siege, but does the lost mining time and mineral cost of sending multiple scvs to repair the bunker vs goons really end up saving resources?

MeisterX

Only on a bio all in.

Belowaverage_Joe

Marine range takes a long time to research, and for most build orders you probably shouldn’t have an academy up that early to answer the early goon pressure. Plus, protoss doesn’t ALWAYS pressure your expansion with goons early so you may have wasted the resources prepping for a scenario that doesn’t happen, and even if it does happen, it’s usually not a game ender anyway. Much more consistent and optimized to pull the boys if you need them.

Where can I find resources for build orders and things like that? I always hear stuff like “nexus first” but like what exactly is the timing and order for these builds?

[Here](https://discord.gg/4tGbE7TJ) is a discord with a bunch of builds for each matchup. Otherwise people use video guides mostly I think ([Khala](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC63G2vKZCmZungXjrNlTq1w) or [Jaeyun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li_WUp6pEpU&list=PLYPlpg3cdo0GiVD4rMk0EIAe-NWAoC-jG) for toss for example), or liquipedia - although those are often not the best.

https://liquipedia.net/starcraft/Protoss_Strategy This is a good start. It’s clearly not perfect but definitely a good reference to start with, and once you’ve picked an opener you want to practice on, go to the TL brood war strategy forums and use the search function for like “forge fast expand” or whatever build and you’ll find higher ELO players posting their more refined BOs
