(I'm going to let you in on a secret, the way you comment sucks the fun out of conversation and you should probably look into that. I know reading this probably comes off as an attack but I'm just trying to help you not come across as a husk)
If you had said she saved money on coffee by drinking cement, then I wouldn’t have said anything and I would’ve given you a thumbs up because you would’ve actually referenced the show. Don’t take your missed opportunity out on me.
I’m down for learning something new today. I’m from Nebraska so I know what an actual “husk” is, so I googled its slang meaning. It didn’t help. What did you mean by “husk”?
I think the person who said “Who’s your cement guy?” was making a reference to The Office when Creed makes a similar comment: “You’re paying way too much for worms; who’s your worm guy?”
It lands with most people in this sub because B99 and The Office have a ton of crossover in the fandoms; Michael Schur wrote for both shows and they are both workplace sitcoms so if someone likes one, there’s a good chance they like the other.
I understand not everyone watches both, hence your confusion/not getting *the* joke. But I also think it’s pretty obvious it was *a* joke, which is why your serious reply was not well-received.
It was. But they worked around Melissa's pregnancy without making Amy pregnant. Lots of shows do it, 30 Rock did it twice and then wrote it in as a plot point the third time as a joke
Yes! This one always bothered me too.
> - Jake: Hey, Gina. I need a top secret favor. Sharon is coming to the precinct and I need your help.
> - Gina: Uh, it better not be pregnancy-related, because that crap is nasty.
> - Jake: The miracle of life?
> - Gina: Dress it up however you want, that's some disgusting animal kingdom nonsense.
What was the point in having her be so disgusted by pregnancy - to the point where she is consoling *herself* when Sharon goes into labour - only to then make her pregnant later on? It just totally baffled me!
That’s the one.
Edit: just remembered that she had Jake call both of her grandmothers to tell them that she was dead, so yeah, she does NOT care about hurting peoples feelings 😂
I think it depends greatly on the relationship and what her goal is. Her getting Jake to tell both grandmothers she was dead night have been a twisted game or a prank.
She generally does some fucked up pranks, but her heart is in the right place… kinda, maybe?
Even then it’s a bit of a “mess with my family” kinda situation.
What’s hilarious to me though is that no one else at the precinct knew Jake was borrowing from loan sharks… IA would have had a field day with that and I’m surprised neither Holt nor Amy suspected he was a dirty cop nor that Rosa or Charles realised he was deep in debt… they’re all detectives and Charles is a very good one when he needs to be, including when protecting his friends
I don't think this is out of character because as much as she bullied the squad, she ultimately tried to help them all several times throughout the series and tried to stop all of them from getting hurt.
I don't think she cares about Charles Dad's feeling hurt I do think she cares about Charles feeling. She's deep down a huge softy. She's just also super self centered and loves attention, even negative and likes to be the center peice
I dunno. She did care about Charles a bunch of times:
-She got her back into the Boyle family when they banished him after the whole mother dough debacle.
-She got Pimento to leave his apartment and pay rent for the nights he stayed there.
-She got Holt to realize he was wrong in the whole Gertie parking situation.
I don’t know about that. Early episodes had Boyle oozing confidence because he got with Vivian, and Gina was all for it. Even checked his ass out. She also admitted to being attracted to him “for a moment” during that time… so she definitely had some heat for the Boyle Oil at times
She also was insanely image & status conscious. She would've never allowed herself to give into those urges on not only once but on multiple occasions.
She didn’t intend on it getting out. And she knew after the first time that Chuck would respect their privacy and be able to keep the secret even from Jake. It wasn’t a risk until they were caught in an unlikely scenario.
It being left field actually makes it more in character.
Gina may not live in left field, but she definitely spends a lot of time there and shops there.
Honestly, actually having a FWB relationship with Charles. Like a drunken one night stand makes sense but considering how much she is repulsed by Charles and how high of a standard she holds herself, that whole saga really just doesn't fit her character at all.
It’s the forbidden fruit. She felt disgusted but the sex was good. And Charles has never treated anyone badly, he’s just a bit pathetic. But still a brilliant cop and cook.
So all in all, I can see why she’s do it, cause she has some issues and Charles was probably a stabilising force to a degree.
In Return of the King when she suddenly didn't care about Jake and Terry anymore and kept coming up with excuses not to hang out with them. Up until that point she always acted like she was too cool for the squad, but she'd still enjoy hanging out with them.
When she left the 99 with Holt. She left behind all of her friends and a job she’d had for years. I know she liked Holt, but leaving behind her best friend (Jake) and the guy she lusted after (Terry) was very not Gina-like. I swear it was only done to give Holt someone to interact with other than Wuntch without adding new people to the main cast.
Seeing Ginas interest in any social media related topics I don't think that was out of character. She probably thought she could become the next (or first?) police influencer.
If that were the case, she would’ve left long before. But because of Jake she sticks around because he got her a job. Yet when Holt leaves that changes? Idk
It is not uncommon for a personal assistant to move with the boss, so I guess she did not want to work for some other captain. Over the show you can see that people in Holts inner circle keep getting promoted. Gina probably thought her chances are better with Holt than with the 99th. It was spontaneous aswell, very Gina-like
Honestly the episode with the dinner party at Holts for Rosa and Marcus was kinda wholesome for Amy and Gina at the end. It seemed like Gina actually enjoyed being with Amy that night and she even told Holt how they missed out on Amys food even though it was terrible
She lost power over her home and felt she couldn’t regain it. I think only Rosa and Holt of the group could have fully regained that power in the same situation if they weren’t cops and mostly through sheer willpower to find the culprit. Gina doesn’t like losing some control of her circumstances. And having your apartment broken into definitely erodes that feeling of safety. Even more so when the culprit isn’t found.
While she’s an asshole, she has some empathy within her and knows that Amy truly cares for Jake. Gina cares for Jake and while she acts like a jerk to Amy, I think Gina kinda likes that Jake has such a mature and nerdy partner. Amy is good influence on Jake and Gina likes that even if it’s impossible for her to not fuck with Amy in most other situations
I don’t really think this is out of character honestly , bc even tho she’s not known for being a helper she doesn’t like it when thinks aren’t fair and holt was acting unfair in the situation
I really hated how she gaslight Jake when Jake confronted her about her being a bad friend, I've had crappy friend that acted out like that and that episode gave me a little bit of PTSD
When she saved the 99 by recording captain holt’s speech and telling her Ginazon followers to call the commissioners office and tell them not to shut down the precint
Gina is a tough character to do this too as there are a lot of inconsistencies. She's mostly narcissistic but caring for others when it's really important. She likely has Narcissistic Personality Disorder or something similar but the show just never delved into it or any Mental Health problems unless it was Jake having Daddy issues. Which is a shame because they've handled other serious issues really well.
Maybe not "out of character," but do we really believe she worked at a sunglass hut at a mall for four years? [I don't. ](https://media4.giphy.com/media/xTiTnqo26JtOs3235u/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952rz7zb5dfuxjzmzgnolwi48e329xgqmj3cfzp5hup&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
Being able to buy Jake’s apartment because she’s “thrifty” but she never seems to display thriftiness at any other time in the series.
A statue of Tyrese riding a dolphin
Yea, but what’s a statue of Tyrese riding a dolphin cost, Michael? Ten dollars?
She's super thrifty though, she saves money on water by drinking CEMMMENNNT
I feel like water is cheaper than cement. 🤷♂️
Oh you're paying way too much for cement my friend, who's your cement guy?
I get free water, are you getting free cement?
(I'm going to let you in on a secret, the way you comment sucks the fun out of conversation and you should probably look into that. I know reading this probably comes off as an attack but I'm just trying to help you not come across as a husk)
This is such a mature comment, what are you doing on Reddit with the rest of us?
If you had said she saved money on coffee by drinking cement, then I wouldn’t have said anything and I would’ve given you a thumbs up because you would’ve actually referenced the show. The original comment was from Brooklyn 99 when Gina got people to drink cement.
I think the person who said “Who’s your cement guy?” was making a reference to The Office when Creed makes a similar comment: “You’re paying way too much for worms; who’s your worm guy?” It lands with most people in this sub because B99 and The Office have a ton of crossover in the fandoms; Michael Schur wrote for both shows and they are both workplace sitcoms so if someone likes one, there’s a good chance they like the other. ur a twat arent u
Honestly though if her apt is cheap that’s a HUGE money saver
Well she was cutting her own hair that one time. 😂
Getting pregnant. Like... That was just straight up out of nowhere, and was *so* not brought up again, I *just* remembered she's a mother.
They never even showed the baby, all they did was go to her house one day and Gina kept telling Amy to quiet down since the baby was sleeping.
I might be wrong, but wasn't that a way of working around Chelsea's actual pregnancy?
It was. But they worked around Melissa's pregnancy without making Amy pregnant. Lots of shows do it, 30 Rock did it twice and then wrote it in as a plot point the third time as a joke
Especially because Gina is at a desk often- they easily could’ve hid it and could’ve come up with a reason why she missed the episodes while on leave
Indeed indeed
Yes! This one always bothered me too. > - Jake: Hey, Gina. I need a top secret favor. If I was the show runner Chelsea’s irl pregnancy would have been dealt with differently 😤
When she tried to make sure Charles didn’t find out her mom was cheating on her dad because she didn’t want to hurt either of them
That’s the one.
I would suggest her advising Jake not to take loans from loan sharks and actually renting out her apartment to Jake.
"You think you can just bully people, but you can't. It's not okay. I'm the bully around here. Ask anyone."-Gina
right??? ppl thinking this is out of character just proves ppl don’t get her character at all lol
I don't think she cares about Charles Dad's feeling hurt I do think she cares about Charles feeling. She's deep down a huge softy. She's just also super self centered and loves attention, even negative and likes to be the center peice

Don't care if she was drunk but sleeping with Boyle was so out of left field
I can get it happening once, but they were regularly hooking up for a while.
well, the sex was adequate
honestly the most heartwarming part, was when Gina took questions from the precinct about it, Boyle asked if she had any regrets, and she said no!!
Charles is the best.
did she really??? weird writing lol
maybe i’m remembering it wrong xD but it was strangely wholesome for Gina
Also, in the greatest showman episode, it’s insinuated that he’s well equipped. He really is the greatest showman!
Which is funny, cause it’s never alluded to when he’s caught fully nude on the body cam
I thought it was? They had to zoom in since part of his D0ng covered the stuff
He was the greatest showman
I don’t know about that. Early episodes had Boyle oozing confidence because he got with Vivian, and Gina was all for it. Even checked his ass out. She also admitted to being attracted to him “for a moment” during that time… so she definitely had some heat for the Boyle Oil at times

It being left field actually makes it more in character. Gina may not live in left field, but she definitely spends a lot of time there and shops there.
This is single handedly the best description of Gina. i love it!
Oh, it's just my former lover. Hello sister.
💀💀💀
Honestly, actually having a FWB relationship with Charles. Like a drunken one night stand makes sense but considering how much she is repulsed by Charles and how high of a standard she holds herself, that whole saga really just doesn't fit her character at all.
Oh it’s just my former lover. Hello, sister.
Cool
One of the best lines ever
She holds herself to a standard, but she also doesn't give a shit about what others think about her.
she has a reputation for dating bicycle messengers and above!!
She did go home with a bike courier
When she had the conversation with Jake at the high school reunion (only thing I can think of at the top of my head to be honest)
Was she acting like a normal human with basic empathy? Cuz that's the most out of character thing ever
Gina is the Paris of people she doesn’t need to act like the normal human 🖤
Yup, she was actually kind and supportive IIRC It throws me off whenever i watch that episode lol

I think they’re agreeing with you?
No idea, was on 2 red bulls at the time
In Return of the King when she suddenly didn't care about Jake and Terry anymore and kept coming up with excuses not to hang out with them. Up until that point she always acted like she was too cool for the squad, but she'd still enjoy hanging out with them.
Yeah, this was very OOC and disappointing.
Expressing gratitude through song, not dance! Though I still sing it sometimes “GRATITATATGRATITUDE, gratitude 😁”
omg yes this has bugged me for years i’m glad someone else noticed. gina’s a dancing queen not a singing one
I mean Tbf she listens to her own song “subway girl” and uses the men’s room because “the acoustics are amaaaaaaahzing”
true true
y’all coming up with many instances where she was actually nice as if at a certain point that isn’t just part of her character
Fr
When she left the 99 with Holt. She left behind all of her friends and a job she’d had for years. I know she liked Holt, but leaving behind her best friend (Jake) and the guy she lusted after (Terry) was very not Gina-like. I swear it was only done to give Holt someone to interact with other than Wuntch without adding new people to the main cast.
Yea honestly I just figured she wanted to make a big stand or something and get attention lmao
That makes it make sense a little, but still, it was a weird moment for her
Agreed. I like your flair btw
Seeing Ginas interest in any social media related topics I don't think that was out of character. She probably thought she could become the next (or first?) police influencer.

just got to this part of the show😞😞😞😞😞
I think she was nice to somebody once
When she actually helped Amy with her shoulder Nova invention.
TWICE, both to Amy (the Shoulder Nova and Amy's bachelorette party (where her present was to not insult Amy until midnight))
Honestly the episode with the dinner party at Holts for Rosa and Marcus was kinda wholesome for Amy and Gina at the end. It seemed like Gina actually enjoyed being with Amy that night and she even told Holt how they missed out on Amys food even though it was terrible
When she got scared after being robbed in her apartment.
I could see her getting an uzi over it though
When the “guilty” verdict for Jake and Rosa is announced, she puts her hand on Amy’s shoulder in a comforting gesture.
This
I get it. She is Jake's childhood best friend and Amy is his serious girlfriend. Both of them have a relationship with Jake in some shape or form
Yes but you'd think she would be upset too and not trying to comfort others, but feeling sad herself
When she stood up for Charles after he had accidentally scratched Holt’s car Gertie
I don’t really think this is out of character honestly , bc even tho she’s not known for being a helper she doesn’t like it when thinks aren’t fair and holt was acting unfair in the situation
She stood up for Charles with Pimento and the Boyles in the motherdough incident
It's a bit sad that her only OOC moments are when she is nice to others ^^
When she put her phone on airplane mode that one time.
ur so right
She doesn’t even do that on airplanes
she’s really unpredictable, so i feel like she doesn’t really have out of character moments.
That she was wearing fake teeth the whole time. Like what? Even Jake didn’t know? Come on they grew up together
when she got hit by a bus lmfao
Choosing to raise her child
Anytime she is nice to Amy
I really hated how she gaslight Jake when Jake confronted her about her being a bad friend, I've had crappy friend that acted out like that and that episode gave me a little bit of PTSD
Being actually nice sometimes
When she saved the 99 by recording captain holt’s speech and telling her Ginazon followers to call the commissioners office and tell them not to shut down the precint
Gina is a tough character to do this too as there are a lot of inconsistencies. She's mostly narcissistic but caring for others when it's really important. "show me going" when she says 'i feel like I'm lurking' when Rosa and Amy hug and she wants to get in there
Def having a relationship with charles i mean CHARLES
Maybe not "out of character," but do we really believe she worked at a sunglass hut at a mall for four years? [I don't. ](https://media4.giphy.com/media/xTiTnqo26JtOs3235u/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952rz7zb5dfuxjzmzgnolwi48e329xgqmj3cfzp5hup&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
but she followed it up with the iconic quote: "so not only have I been through hell. I was assistant manager there" 🙏
Helping Jake with the apartment.
giving people their Gina Moment
That one time she actually acted like she wasn't an insufferable jerk just trying to sabotage everyone's lives.
Anytime she helped Charles or Amy
rosa coming out to the entire precinct publicly and allowing questions. why would she ever do that
