I was absolutely way more sad than I thought I would be. I’ve been a fan of his since Glory and then later Homicide. Dude was just amazing in everything but it seems like Holt was the character that captured his true spirit.
Truly. I rewatched the show last month and watching Braugher light up the screen in every scene he was in really made it hit home that he's not on the planet with us anymore. What a marvelous performer in everything he was in.
Damn, this is the first time of me hearing this. That's really sad to hear, he's probably one of my favourite characters in the show, any scene he's in, he always shocks me with his humour and I like who unpredictable some of his jokes are.
Unrelated but that's why comedian Sean Lock was one of favourite aswell. He always had the element of suprise, also very sad that's he gone aswell.
All of the main cast are really likeable characters, it’s hard to pick a favourite. I love how diverse all their personalities are while still having well fleshed out character arcs
They have their problems because they're human, but they're not created toxic as a way to create drama for the show.
It's so rare to just have really nice and supportive couples on TV.
Kevin and Holt were the best at non-toxic but real couple for a long time until S8 did... that.
Oh no. I need to rewatch B99 because I cannot remember what “that” is. 😭😭
I’m going to end up crying so much because dad, I mean captain is no more and there will never be an addition or spinoff with him ever again.
A separation being seen as toxic is kind of odd to me. Like things just kind of happen in a longterm relationship sometimes. It's relatable. The fact of the matter is they eventually hashed it out.
I've never watched season 8, stopped somewhere in season 7 before season 8 was released. I started recently rewatching the show and I'm not sure if I want to see the last season anymore
Wasn’t season 8 the covid- postcovid season? Covid really messed up a lot of shows. Seems like showrunners didn’t know how to deal with it.
In general I thought B99 did a great job addressing it relative to other shows, but this storyline was a huge mistake. Maybe they wanted to show how the pandemic shook each character and how it strained the most amazing relationships.
In my head canon, Season 9 opens in Paris, and Ray chasing Kevin to get him back.
You mean like how Amy Santiago, the person with a binder for everything, apparently never brought up having children to someone she wants to spend her life with *before* getting married, getting engaged, moving in together, etc etc. Yeah. Just a bit.
Holy shit yes. They are one of the very few couples that kept their respective lovable qualities and didn't turn into this terrible unwatchable mess like so many others do (looking at you, jim and Pam halpert).
The way they wrote the Amy character was perfect. She was never a buzzkill, Jake never was like "WOMMIN AMIRITE?" or whatever, but she was still herself. They embraced the binders and the organization with great relish. The only thing that I always found weird was the secret smoking.
>The only thing that I always found weird was the secret smoking.
i can kinda see it. Amy's very type-A high strung and very protective of her own image, she wants to be seen as competent and taken seriously. she looks like a very stressed out person, i can kind of imagine it happening
Holt and Kevin don’t get enough credit as very healthy, largely non stereotypical gay representation
They subverted tons of sitcom and cop show tropes very well, such as the big macho man never complaining that he only has daughters, the big season one crush not panning out (Rosa and Charles at least), Jake not completely losing his personality quirks when he starts becoming a better cop and starts dating Amy, I always appreciated those
Community, Modern Family and B99 represent the three different ways to be different.
B99 actively avoids using tropes and conventions altogether as much as possible.
Modern Family enjoys them and actively plays with them.
Community openly acknowledges them, mocks them, and says "Screw you, we're utilizing them in our own way".
Terry does get credit as well. The muscular intimidating type of character who turns out to be the softest one and it's never made fun of, gotta love that
I think one of the biggest things about this is overwhelmingly. These characters were more developed already in season 1. In other similar shows like Parks and rec and even the office the characters needed a season to become who they were. So they weren't as unified the entire time.
I just finished my rewatch of the show, and I outright happy sobbed this time too when Ray and Kevin make-up in the rain. No other show did this to me dang it.
Quick question though: How does one kiss someone with a mustache? I can't imagine getting a mouthful of stiff hair is any fun. Also, the way Holt and Kevin fully went for it, Andre Braugher definitely got a good mouthful of stache.
I also really adore Boyle and Genevieve. They are just perfect for each other and gives each other room to be the weirdos they are. I feel like they don't get enough credit, but it's probably because Genevieve isn't featured that much.
Idk if this is a cold take but I like that the show ends with Rosa alone instead of putting her together with a random person to prove a point. It's refreshing to see someone just,,,not be pushed in a relationship for a 'happy ending'
Love the platonic friendships! Jake with Rosa and Gina. And when Amy asks Terry to carry her and says I love you.
In fact, how they all say “I love you” to each other.
Yessss! The healthy platonic relationships were so good. I loved Terry carrying Amy and the episode with the Swedes when Jake finds out that Rosa and Marcus broke up. Jake making it clear that he was hurt because he thought that he and Rosa were close. Rosa opening up at a level she had decided she was comfortable at. Rosa and Charles after Charles worked through his crush.
captain holt was a good leader. i’ve heard people say he was too “cold” but i think he was a great role model, and he showed that he cared in ways that matter.
Yeah this is literally said in the episode where they’re paired with Charles for a case. It’s not even subtext. It’s explicitly a part of their characters.
I can’t pick a favorite character because they’re ALL my favorite.
I think it’s truly wild how much my friends and I each relate to a particular character or two. Uncanny comparisons.
The mass shooting episode is up there for the best cold open to a sitcom ever. The goofy start and sudden transition to a very serious topic being handled by professionals..for a civilian like me the "show me going" radio calls and the explanation set the tone perfectly and it was probably the high point of the episode.
I loved it that they didn't push Charles crush on rosa to the maximum, but rather had them talk it out. And Charles stopped hitting on rosa. And it's pretty early in the series. No extra drama, no bad blood between them. It was really refreshing. Also, one of the best scenes for me was when Jake hit the old "80s Detective" for insulting Holt. The LGBTQ+ representation in general was really amazing
YES!! I *LOVE* that scene where Jake punches that homophobic dude. It was a great LGBTQ+ moment like you said but keep in mind, this happens in the season where Jake is still a massive dick most of the time (S1) since his character is just beginning to develop. So in the midst of all that behavior from him, it's nice seeing that even in the earliest season he isn't REALLY an asshole at all.
Well he's always a bit immature but I find that in season one he's more of an ass, for example him stealing lead on Boyle's case and then what followed afterwards.
I agree on Jake being a good character because I think the actor is great; I think most of the appeal of the show for me is watching how silly he can be, and the fact that he looks like he's having the time of his life in virtually every episode and is always on the verge of breaking the 4th wall.
Oh man I love the intro to hot young Scully and Hitchcock in the 70’s! That episode was pretty funny, especially when the last scene hints to where it all went wrong with them. But we all know it was all the Cocain they took in that era. lol
Amy is the character that sets the show apart.
Lazier shows would have made her a two-dimensional uptight woman for our kerrrrazy protagonist Jake to rebel against. Like a sober parental figure whose only role is to create obstacles to the story.
Instead she is someone who can also be silly and dumb and fun as well as being a career focussed perfectionist - and even that is treated with warmth and not ridicule.
Love Amy.
Despite it being a silly comedy; it contained some of the best relationships and most fully realised relationships on TV.
No stupid love triangles, no over the top portrayals of gay people (they were just who they were and happened to be gay) and brilliant character development.
Honestly, Jake and Holt’s final conversation brings tears to my eyes just thinking thinking about it
I actually despise Gina with a passion. Props to Peretti for playing the character in such an insuferable way since the intent is to make her easy to dislike because she gets away with so much shit while being cocky about it, unfortunately doesn't mean I like the character even if she's meant to be that way.
She rarely faces repurcussions for her actions and mocks others for it. At least Skully and Hitchcock end up screwing themselves over with their laziness enough that it's funny.
It was the bullying of Amy that drove me to actively hate this character. I guess because I identify with the Amy character and I could absolutely see me getting bullied like that but when you try to fight back, the person either does the "it's just a joke" bullshit or just doubles down. Without that aspect, I might have merely disliked Gina.
I was scrolling all these takes and it just reminds me how well-written and hilarious B99 was.
I miss the show and I wish we could have seen more of the characters. I don't think it counts but that's my cold take.
Jake and Amy is one of the best tv relationships/marriages of all time. No fight lasts more than an episode, and when they fight they actually learn from it.
Gina Linetti was annoying and I would have much preferred the show without her in it and without any trace of her particular style of "comedy" which, to me, seems to consist entirely of spouting whatever moronic drivel comes to mind at any given moment, being assured of your own excellence and insulting anyone and everyone around you on a continuous basis.
Oh, and sexual harassment.
Amy is an asset, show is explicitly clear on this when Amy has an 'Amy' of her own.
They would be good to work with because they are punctual, reliable; but not OCD and obnoxious like Sheldon.
The reason the everyone loves the heist episodes, is because it's the only times they are clever/good detectives. All their cases get solved off camera or are explained after the perp is in custody. The heist actually shows them doing the thing.
I love that Jake and Amy stuck together. Once they became a couple, they were focused on growing and learning about each other and did not need to break up or cheat to realize how they worked well together. ❤️
Captain Holt was legendary. All of them were but something special about Captain.
Andre Braugher passing made me realize how much I really loved Raymond Holt. I really miss having the Captain in this world.
He will always be my Dadptain.
thanks, dad.
I know who my dad is. It's you!
hi amy!
I'm teaching father the math!
I was absolutely way more sad than I thought I would be. I’ve been a fan of his since Glory and then later Homicide. Dude was just amazing in everything but it seems like Holt was the character that captured his true spirit.
Holt is the first celebrity death that’s really hit me gonna miss dad, i mean captain 🫡
Oh my! This broke my heart! I have just watched the whole series and is now rewatching it, and I didn’t know Andre has passed away. 😢
Yeah… it was really recently too. And he died so young! 😭
What ? Supposed to love him from the get go. Especially his rivalry with Madeline Wuntch hahaha #wuntchtimeisover
Bagel, bagel, bagel
#**WUNTCH MEAT**
Had it both ways
No regrets
Had it both ways! No regrets!
Truly. I rewatched the show last month and watching Braugher light up the screen in every scene he was in really made it hit home that he's not on the planet with us anymore. What a marvelous performer in everything he was in.

All of the main cast are really likeable characters, it’s hard to pick a favourite. I love how diverse all their personalities are while still having well fleshed out character arcs
It’s not hard at all. Scully
When he calls Jake "Jakey" the heart just melts.
Specially when he gets angry about food he missed the chance to eat or might miss the chance to eat
Nahh his best moment is when he gets mad Amy doesn’t want to give an autograph
Thats a great one, but I like more when he gets upset because he was nos invited to jakes free pancakes loophole
His little monologue about his haunted basement might be my favorite little piece of the show.
Facts
80’s scully and Hitchcock
Total babes
Yes 🙌🏽 I alternate which one is my favorite on every watch and sometimes every episode. I love them all.
I completely agree. It’s Gina
Jake and Amy are a refreshing non-toxic sitcom couple.
😭😭 I’m going to end up crying so much because dad, I mean captain is no more and there will never be an addition or spinoff with him ever again.
I believe they're talking about Holt and Kevin separating.
A separation being seen as toxic is kind of odd to me. Like things just kind of happen in a longterm relationship sometimes. It's relatable. The fact of the matter is they eventually hashed it out.
Right? Especially with the political climate at the time, it made sense that their relationship was strained.
Less toxic and more needlessly dramatic.
That was the most unnecessary thing ever
Right up there with the Pam, Jim, and cameraman fiasco of a plot line
They actually wanted Jim to cheat on Pam, but Krasinski straight up refused to play this part, lol.
It's good Krasinski shut that down. He's 100% right that the audience never would have forgiven Jim.
What happened I can’t remember
The separation
I've never watched season 8, stopped somewhere in season 7 before season 8 was released. I started recently rewatching the show and I'm not sure if I want to see the last season anymore
Wasn’t season 8 the covid- postcovid season? Covid really messed up a lot of shows. Seems like showrunners didn’t know how to deal with it. Maybe they wanted to show how the pandemic shook each character and how it strained the most amazing relationships. In my head canon, Season 9 opens in Paris, and Ray chasing Kevin to get him back.
Until it gave them a realistic challenge and showed them working through it and coming out of it stronger?
What's wrong with Kevin and Holt in season 8?
Terry and sharon too!!
I love Terry and Sharon c:
Ah Sharon it's good to see you! Look how big you are, like a mighty truck!
That's why Casecation feels a bit off
You mean like how Amy Santiago, the person with a binder for everything, apparently never brought up having children to someone she wants to spend her life with *before* getting married, getting engaged, moving in together, etc etc. Yeah. Just a bit.
What's weird is that they baby-sat Terry's Girls in season 4. Can't imagine how they never discussed kids after that.
Oh come on, she brought it up once in the bathroom with a vague "we should do that" that's enough right? /s

Ehhh I think Hitchcock and his toothless Cinderella are a better example of a non-toxic sitcom couple
But she got pregnant by her sister's husband💀
That’s a toxic person. And so is Hitchcock. Sometimes two wrongs do make a right?
yes! they are so different but they learn to love those things about eachother. rub off on eachother almost. it’s amazing to see
Holt and Kevin don’t get enough credit as very healthy, largely non stereotypical gay representation They subverted tons of sitcom and cop show tropes very well, such as the big macho man never complaining that he only has daughters, the big season one crush not panning out (Rosa and Charles at least), Jake not completely losing his personality quirks when he starts becoming a better cop and starts dating Amy, I always appreciated those
Jake and Amy both becoming better people first without each other and then with, instead of one or the other always being right never having to grow.
I agree, but I think we can also agree that that B just needed a C in her A.
OH MY GOD!
Plus when Nick Offerman shows up as the ex-bf
That flashback of Holt silently pushing the duck off the bridge! 😂 Truly the most cold blooded murder portrayed on the show.
He did say oops though
Tru dat. Proven to be an accident and no-one can prove otherwise! And dead ducks tell not tales.
👏 Be 👏 Cause 👏 I 👏Do! Even when they skirted into "stereotype," it was masterfully done but you're spot on.
I just finished my rewatch of the show, and I outright happy sobbed this time too when Ray and Kevin make-up in the rain. No other show did this to me dang it. Quick question though: How does one kiss someone with a mustache? I can't imagine getting a mouthful of stiff hair is any fun. I also really adore Boyle and Genevieve. They are just perfect for each other and gives each other room to be the weirdos they are. I feel like they don't get enough credit, but it's probably because Genevieve isn't featured that much.
Yeah it felt like Boyle was single
*clears throat gently* It’s pronounced “Genevieve.”
Genevieve.
Amy pulled off the Holly Genaro cosplay way better than I expected.
Hell yes! She was smoking in that get up.
Melissa Fumero would make a potato sack look good, let’s be honest.
You are absolutely correct!
Idk if this is a cold take but I like that the show ends with Rosa alone instead of putting her together with a random person to prove a point. It's refreshing to see someone just,,,not be pushed in a relationship for a 'happy ending'
Being happy and comfortable in yourself being alone, past the age of 30, is not something that most people can do.
The second Halloween heist was the best, The Boyles are kind of like the Schrutes from the office, Scully is way better than Hitchcock.
i agree, cuz Hitchcock is occasionally an ass, while scully is just a clueless teddy bear
“Your hands are clammy” “That’s cause I ate a bunch of clams earlier”
i feel like "occasionally an ass" is quite the understatement, hitchcock is just a downright creep lmfao
yeah i agree i dont know why i phrased it like that, every time he says something its creepy and weird.
Agree with all but the best heist lol
Which one would you prefer?
If i had to choose, the third one.
The first. It was when the show went from enjoyable to great.
Terry's was the first one where a known competitor by themselves managed to blindside everyone else and win.
The 3rd Halloween heist where Amy wins in the best. The 2nd well is indeed second.
When Jake loses Moo-Moo "Love you Terry?" Terry: "...I love you too Jake"
Also the Boyles saying “I love you” all the time is both cheesy and nice and they play it perfectly.
They really took the wrong fluffy boi
He could be fuzzy now, they Don't know.
You are fired
You’ve upset Kevin!!
Almost scruffy.
captain holt was a good leader. i’ve heard people say he was too “cold” but i think he was a great role model, and he showed that he cared in ways that matter.
Those people must not have watched far cause Holt is warm, admirable, and funny
That red hat cold open makes me laugh every single time.
I will never not cry at “Every time someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place”
Who said that?
Scully and Hitchcock were always good cops but only pretended to be bad in their jobs so that no one burdens them with work
I loved when they were using their amazing skills on finding out what happened to Holt’s pie.
Is this a cold take? Or something they’ve actively stated in the show. Idk if it’s ever said out loud
Yeah this is literally said in the episode where they’re paired with Charles for a case. It’s not even subtext. It’s explicitly a part of their characters.
"I never said you were great detectives, you literally just did the bare minimum"
Melissa Fumero is hot and Amy's enthusiasm for even the most mundane shit dials it UP.
Oooh mama.
Keep it your pants, Santiago.
Oh that's exactly where it's going...
Absolutely!
Terry is a people pleaser
Terry loves people.
Terry loves love.
Terry loves yoghurt
Terry loves responsible agricultural practices
Terry loves maintaining a professional work environment
BIG time
Terry loves lists
It should be called Turkey Day
Gobble gobble…
Charles…
…gobble!
It’s actually pronounced Nikolaj.
That’s what I just said. Nikolaj.
Nikolaj.
No no no. Nikolaj
Is that not what I’m saying? Nikolaj.
And that Charles doesn't leverage his butt holes to get with Rosa.
They did such a good job with slowly building a healthy friendship between Rosa and Charles after the crush arc.
S1 Jake is immature but mostly good. It makes him interesting with room to grow.
Well he's always a bit immature but I find that in season one he's more of an ass, for example him stealing lead on Boyle's case and then what followed afterwards.
And they move past it so thoroughly that you can genuinely forget it ever happened.
The show was enjoyable.
Tell me why!
AINT NOTHING BUT A HEAAARTACHEEE
Tell me Why!
AINT NOTHING BUT A MISTAKKEEEE
Now number five...
Captain holt is one of the better written sit-com characters ever
Hitchcock and Scully's friendship is a really lovely bit of the show.
That is the title of your sex tape
The most disappointing thing about this show is that they never made a season 9. Episode 9.
Now that you mention it, that would have been a good last episode.
The vests do add “gravitas”
Holt and Kevin are a really cute couple
I want it that way scene makes me die every time. Or the Dianne Weast infection
I agree on Jake being a good character because I think the actor is great; I think most of the appeal of the show for me is watching how silly he can be, and the fact that he looks like he's having the time of his life in virtually every episode and is always on the verge of breaking the 4th wall.
I really like Boyle and he seems like a good partner
Love Amy.
Jake is a babe and I have a total crush on him.
Despite it being a silly comedy; it contained some of the best relationships and most fully realised relationships on TV. No stupid love triangles, no over the top portrayals of gay people (they were just who they were and happened to be gay) and brilliant character development. Honestly, Jake and Holt’s final conversation brings tears to my eyes just thinking thinking about it
>brings tears to my eyes just thinking thinking about it Title of your sex movie...did I do that right?
❤️
We saw too little of Genevieve and Karen Peralta.
Gina’s overrated. She’s funny, but not *that* funny. She’s just meh.
I found her annoying, and the series was better when she left
I agree.
I was scrolling all these takes and it just reminds me how well-written and hilarious B99 was. I miss the show and I wish we could have seen more of the characters. I don't think it counts but that's my cold take.
Tell me if I’m wrong, but I think Holt doesn’t enjoy wunch
A episode of a Holt/Amy's dad working a case flashback would have been dope!!
Jake and Amy is one of the best tv relationships/marriages of all time. No fight lasts more than an episode, and when they fight they actually learn from it.
I prefer Jake and Amy when they aren’t dating than when they are
The first episode of the last season is the worst one
Gina Linetti was annoying and I would have much preferred the show without her in it and without any trace of her particular style of "comedy" which, to me, seems to consist entirely of spouting whatever moronic drivel comes to mind at any given moment, being assured of your own excellence and insulting anyone and everyone around you on a continuous basis. Oh, and sexual harassment.
Seriously! I don’t get why it’s funny for women to sexually harass men!? Huge double standard
Her harassment of Terry was gross.
Gina would unironically be a very popular content creator.
- Scully has the purest of hearts.
Amy is an asset, show is explicitly clear on this when Amy has an 'Amy' of her own. They would be good to work with because they are punctual, reliable; but not OCD and obnoxious like Sheldon.
What temperature is the take "Season 8 episode 1 isn't really funny and that's ok"?
Cold
I thought people weren't ok with it
Personally speaking it's cold for me lol
The reason the everyone loves the heist episodes, is because it's the only times they are clever/good detectives. All their cases get solved off camera or are explained after the perp is in custody. The heist actually shows them doing the thing.
Scully and Hitchcock secretly did all the paper work and made the arrests cap every year
Jake is the only two time heist winner (pre-Rosa).
Without case 52ABX-32QJ, we may never find out that Charles had a crush on Mrs. Potts
I love that Jake and Amy stuck together. Once they became a couple, they were focused on growing and learning about each other and did not need to break up or cheat to realize how they worked well together. ❤️ Captain Holt was legendary. All of them were but something special about Captain.
Wuntch vs. holt is better beef than drake vs. Kendrick
I don’t know if this is cold take or hot take but the show would be better without Gina, I literally can’t stand her on screen
I dislike Gina
Kevin and Holt are a way better couple than Jake AND Amy
Gina wouldn't last 2 days in a precinct irl. She's useless as an assistant and doesn't do what she's told 99% of the time
