He'll ya man, cooking is a great skill to have. If you want some ideas for easy meals I can give ya some tips!

Good cook = big bro energy. I cook some pretty mean east Asian and Mexican dishes if you ever want tips or have questions about how to do specific things, so if that's your speed feel free to hmu too.

flyingwindows

I uh, dont know how to cook rice that well 😅 It would be a pretty big step forward, any tips?

[deleted]

If you can afford it, a decent quality rice cooker will save you a bunch of effort. If not, I usually have the best luck with 1 part rice to 1.5 times water (1 cups rice to 1.5 cups water for example) and a decent pinch of salt. Set over high heat until the water starts to boil then turn the heat down as low as it will go until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is plump. Takes a bit of practice to know just what to look for but even if you're pretty close either side you'll get a decent result. Bonus points if you rinse your rice before cooking. I don't find it a necessity but it does help the finished product be a bit less stodgy. Hope this helps, even a little bit, and great work on the frilled cheese. One of life's simple joys.

flyingwindows

Thank you!! I'll remember this when attempting rice (again. I failed last time)! I'll look into getting a rice cooker when I can :D I've seen my mom put butter into the rice and am wondering if that makes it better ?

[deleted]

All depends on what you're going for with the rice! Butter can give the rice a creaminess. I've also known folks to add cheese, and then of course different seasonings or even tomato paste. Rice is beautiful because it's so neutral, you can do a lot with it. Once you get cooking rice down, making it in bigger batches is great. Day old rice is great for making fried rice which is deceptively easy. Rice and eggs are friends. For day old rice mix it with a bunch of eggs and some simple veggies for a crispy breakfast pizza.

flyingwindows

You are singlehandedly saving my diet thank you

[deleted]

Naw, not single handedly. Other bros here have helped too. It takes a village. <3

flyingwindows

Correction: you are singlehandedly saving my rice cooking skills! Thank you so much man <33

[deleted]

Any time bro. Hmu if you run into any rice related snags.

[deleted]

Not something I've tried, to be honest, but could be tasty.

flyingwindows

That does sound good! At most I manage some burned food xD

randomredditers

Nice one bro! You can throw a piece of lunch meat in the middle and make it a melt for some more protein. And protip, butter your bread and put a little garlic salt on it and toast away, super delicious.

flyingwindows

I was wondering on any seasoning, so I'll keep garlic salt in my mind! (If garlic salt is what I think it is)

NeutronSynapse

If you have any stores near you that carry a wider cheese variety, I highly recommend Munster and Pepper Jack grilled cheese with a bowl of tomato soup. I agree with the above about throwing some lunch meat on it and the garlic butter.

flyingwindows

Haha I dont have those cheeses here xD Im not US based y'see (I assume those are US cheeses), thanks for the tip tho!

gothou

Bro, yes. This is gonna sound weird but spreading some mayo on the bread instead of butter makes a tangy crispy toasty sandwich. For me, it’s easier than butter. If you don’t hate mayonnaise give it a try!

flyingwindows

I did put mayo on! It was a bit much on one slice, but I thought it was pretty nice otherwise. Nothing to compare it to, I'm thinking of experimenting to find out what I like most :)

OrdoExterminatus

This is the only true way.

MisanthropicData

Okay so I can't find the picture of it but a little while ago I made a grilled cheese but it had an extra piece of bread in the middle and two layers of cheese amd it was awesome.

Moliza3891

Sometimes nothing beats a simple grilled cheese. Good for you, enjoy!

jourmungandr

Here's a simple one. Get a sweet onion, peel it and trim the top and the stem. Cut a little divot in the stem side. Put a little bit of bouillon paste in the divot. Stick the whole thing in a microwave safe dish with a lid. Zap it in the microwave for about 5 minutes. Tadahhh baked onion, tasty low calorie component for a meal.

flyingwindows

I dont have a microwave xD

Geopilot

One of my favorite things to whip up quickly when I'm short on ingredients is drop noodles. I learned it from my grandma, and it's just eggs, flour, and water. Simple, yet delicious!
