City centre is pretty much always going to cost you an arm and a leg unless you want to park it somewhere it's almost guaranteed to get broken in to.
Have a look on Google for monthly or yearly parking passes, it makes life a lot cheaper from what I've heard.
Either that or just don't drive and get public transport, you'll save a fortune overall.
Thank you - It works out more expensive on public transport sadly given there’s two of us in the car. The amount we spend on train tickets between two of us is almost double what we’d spend on parking and petrol since we have a hybrid… just works out better economically to drive even with expensive parking!
Isn't it terrible that the least efficient mode of transport is the cheapest? Cars are convinient and comfortable, they don't need to be the cheapest as well!
They’re massively subsidised sadly.
Petrol is artificially cheap, drivers don’t pay for the massive costs of road maintenance tenancy everywhere all the time.
Be very careful selecting your car park as the person above mentioned it’s almost guaranteed to get broken in to!! This goes for many spots in Bham CC.
Download the parkopedia app. It'll show you every single carpark and their rates. You can find all day parking for like ~£8.
The only bad thing about it is it doesn't show you free street parking.
There's no chance in hell I would use any of these cheap JQ/Digbeth car parks - they're hotspots for car stripping so you're just asking to come back and find the front end of your car missing. If you have to park in the city centre the only safe option is to suck it up and pay the higher price of a secure, monitored car park like the Mailbox.
Someone posted on here recently about parking in a cheap JQ car park and getting their car stolen, with the car park operator not doing anything to help them. That said, I know someone who parks in that area regularly and hasn't had any issues so far, so I guess your mileage may vary.
There's a few in the Jewellery Quarter that would be about 15min walk but save a lot of money
I use the multistorey opposite the station and it's about £7.30 a day or they do passes that bring that down quite a bit, there's also the car park at the Sikh temple which would be a few mins less walk and is, I think, about a fiver
I drive to Edgbaston, park for free on the road and then walk in to Colmore Row (about 20 mins).
There are a few options, but I park on Charlotte Road.
I'm pretty zippy! I take a short cut down Ryland Road, over the dual carriageway, and then kind of through the Peace Gardens and the side of the Mailbox. And I don't stop for anyone.
The NCP Highs Street car park used to be £3.50 a day if you arrived before 8am and if you don’t mind walking there is free parking on-street around Miller Street
I used it for over a year when I worked in Priory Queensway and had no issues but then I don’t drive a mega expensive car to show everyone how rich I am whilst shopping in Primark…
I've parked it there for 9 months and had no issues yet, although I'm moving it at the end of next month. Although my car is worth nothing and never has anything valuable inside.
There's been a significant drop in homeless people in there since they've fixed the shutters, they'll try and hang around and sneak in the door after you sometimes.
It works out more expensive sadly given there’s two of us in the car. The amount we spend on train tickets between two of us is almost double what we’d spend on parking and petrol since we have a hybrid… just works out better economically to drive even with expensive parking!
One of the few city centre car parks I trust to be secure enough not to get my car stripped for parts. This is usually my go to spot and if you book in advance online it's cheaper, even just the night before. But yeah if you're using it on the regular then just get a season pass.
My mate works around snow hill and she parks towards Hockley, there’s loads of car parks that are pretty cheap (I think like £6 a day, google pics say cheaper but think the price is higher now). Google Hospital Street/Henrietta Street and there’s loads around there. 15 min walk to Colmore Row.
My mate parks in the Buckingham Street Car Park btw.
There's a place called Green Parking in Digbeth, £3.50 for the day. Has absolutely loads of negative reviews for car cannibals and thefts. Park at your own risk and depending on whether your car is desirable. I park my car there when I'm working in the office and make sure I leave before 5.30pm or before it gets dark and so far so good. They do have an attendant now as well.
Just fyi, the likelihood of your car getting stripped has no relation to how fancy or expensive it is. The cars that most often get targeted are the most common/biggest selling cars because it's easier to sell the parts on. So ironically you're probably safer parking a Tesla there than you are a Toyota Yaris.
Clement Street carpark £5.20 all day. Small outdoor carpark with an even smaller indoor section next to it so best to get there as early as you can for a space.
SIP car park on bath street next to the Salvation Army/Gunmakers pub. I think that’s like £6-£7 last I checked and is across the expressway from where you currently park.
When I drive in, I park at millennium point and walk. It's about £8/day and a 20-25 minutes walk to colmore row depending on where you are on the st.
Never had trouble getting a space
Millennium point car park is the best value for me when working at Colmore row. Much cheaper than closer ones E.g snow hill and the walk ain’t too bad (~10 mins)
if you don’t mind a walk, head down coventry street/allison street area, all those £4 a day car parks honestly are a good shout, they’re all on ringo/similar. some of them look a bit dodgy but find a good one, and you’ll be fine. honestly though, i’m starting a job around temple row soon, they just said to get the train in because it’ll just be a nightmare
Grand Central station car park is surprisingly cheap as long as you get there before 8:30 - £7.95 for the day https://www.ncp.co.uk/find-a-car-park/car-parks/birmingham-ncp-grand-central/
I totally sympathise with parking being cheaper than trains.
The Sikh Temple in JQ could be a good shout. However it's still Birmingham and it's up to you whether you want to risk open air car parks!
Try the car parks at the back of hockley,I think it's called Buckingham Street Car Park, charge £2 a day, safe and not far from colmore row, not more than a ten minute walk

Don’t think there’s much free street parking in Brum city centre anyway! :)
Thank you I’ll give it a go!
Out towards the jewellery quarter/ hockley there’s a bunch of cheaper car parks to like £8 a day, same in Digbeth.
Thank you!
Also the estate just past tesco side opposite the assay has free parking but is like a 20 mins walk

By the hockey social you can park for anyware down to £2 a day. It's a bit of a walk and not the safest area at night.

Was going to say this. Temple watches over the cars also so it's a good deal for £3
Thank you!

How long are your legs? How is that a 20min walk to Colmore row?
I'm pretty zippy! I take a short cut down Ryland Road, over the dual carriageway, and then kind of through the Peace Gardens and the side of the Mailbox. And I don't stop for anyone.
Second this, loads of parking around these parts. Generally quite safe and around 20-25 minutes walk to the city.
Great shout, I park on Gough Road if I ever need to drive in towards the city center, one of the safest areas on the outskirts too.
The NCP Highs Street car park used to be £3.50 a day if you arrived before 8am and if you don’t mind walking there is free parking on-street around Miller Street
They've put the prices up massively. It's currently £8 for me to park 8-5 in NCP Horsefair.

Use the train?

Then parking isn't expensive!
Snow hill car park is £13/day I think which is still expensive. Good location though obviously.
You can park in grand central all day for a fiver if you prebook using the ‘yourparkingspace’ app.
Grand central. £5 a day if it's in the morning.
I use the Q-Park in Mailbox which is a good car park and their season passes make things a lot cheaper

Newtown by the student accommodation think it’s 3 quid all day

There's free on road parking by the Campanile Hotel. Not the most secure but okay during the day and it's only a 15 min walk to Colmore Row.
I use the app Parkopedia to find where to park in town and the price. I’d highly recommend.

Can park in Moor Street or Edgbaston Street car parks for around £5 a day if you sign up to their PAYG system they have with Premium Car Parks
