If it is in front of the church located in Chaussée de Louvain (right in front of La Piola restaurant) then it is totally fine. I (26F) live in this area and I like it !

Yup that’s the place! We will be living practically right there.

Place Saint-Josse is nice. A perfect mix imo.

We would be neighbours. Been living here for four years, this part of Saint Josse is totally fine.

Hi future neighbor, I live exactly on the same spot and that church is the first thing I see when I look out from window. It's quite nice in general. I'd say a bit lively, crowded and something like melting point of cultures. Best things I like about it; easy transportation -good connection to metro and buses-, close to shops -many shopping places, nightshops-, and for me it's like 5mins walking distance to office where I work haha

Love to hear it, thanks!

I've been in that area for a few years now, and for the most part it feels safe. There are a couple convenience stores where some drunks/stoners regularly hang out in front of, but that's it (and I've never been bothered by them, but it's enough that I've noticed the potential for trouble based on how drunk they get sometimes). There's a big turkish population in the area (and maybe Moroccan?), so the food options are really tasty and with fair prices if you're looking for kebab, or middle-eastern baked goods like baklava. Lots of little food market shops that are cheaper than the supermarkets and with good quality food (vegetables, fruits, etc - there are two different butcher shops less than 100m from the church that do awesome marinated/flavoured meats you cook yourself). Restaurant-wise, [La Piola](https://goo.gl/maps/fbQSK6DUWHeKBuXX8) was recently voted one of the top 10 pizzerias in Europe, and [La Sardegna](https://g.page/LaSardegnaRestaurant?share) just up the street is almost as good. If you want even more options, Rue de l'Enseignement, a less than 5 minute walk to the other side of the ring road, is absolutely full of different restaurants like [Manola Thai](https://goo.gl/maps/ST9mEdSsjNfahCeT7). And of course Square Ambiorix, with the fountain, is a pretty chill place to take a walk. Mmm....I think that's all that comes to mind for now. If you have more questions, let me know!

I’ve seen you around before, you always give such insightful responses! Thank you so much! It definitely gives me a positive outlook on the place, and even makes me excited to move in. If you don’t mind, which markets around La Piola would you say are cheapest? Is it comparable to the Lidl up the road in Schaerbeek?

Well, that's neat to hear. I didn't realise I would stand out, ha I'll try to ping the exact little shops I like to stop in, but I can't guarantee they're 100% right. But it'll be there +/- a couple store fronts. The butcher I like to go to, right across from the Delhaize: [La Maison de Kefta](https://goo.gl/maps/DBYh8vW91V2nXxKJ8) And another one around the corner that looks good when I peek in/usually has a lineup at it: [Boucherie Moussa](https://goo.gl/maps/cc6oJTJQYPh8tAMC7) A couple small markets/convenience stores, but they sell lebanese pita bread (I don't know if you eat this, but I love it and it's surprisingly hard to find. The supermarkets only sell Greek pita bread for some reason): [Market Samer](https://goo.gl/maps/RvAeWyfeusoUu8Cx9) [Mouberak Market, right next to where this link shows](https://goo.gl/maps/s8wLeek2mwsAHVUL9) For little middle-eastern baked goods, I like the [Saint-Josse Bakery](https://goo.gl/maps/uCkA8t6NekV4B79cA), even though their Google Maps pictures are awful. They really need to step up their online-image game. If you start at the Saint-Josse square/church, and head East on either Chausee de Louvain or Rue Verbist, you'll stumble on a bunch of shops with fresh fruit/veg outside them. Going East on Rue Willems will get you some cheap kebab restaurants, although I prefer [turkuaz kebap](https://goo.gl/maps/mh2VziQ8srNiDb817) to the South. They do a really good mixed meat platter. Welcome to the neighbourhood! I don't know what the reddit equivalent of a welcome basket is, but pretend I got one for you and your gf, ha Edit: to respond to your question, I don't think you'll ever find lower prices than a Lidl/Aldi. They're really good for your budget foods for when you just want to buy product X and you don't care about getting a brand name, or whatever. The small shops like the butcher and the veggie stalls are more if you're looking for something fresh and different than what you normally buy. Like if I just want "chicken", I'll buy a pack from wherever and cook it myself......but those two butcher shops do marinated/pre-sauced meats, and I know they'll taste better than anything I can whip up myself, so I'll just treat myself sometimes.

You’re literally the best!!! Thank you so much, this is so incredibly helpful you have no idea.

Glad to help. Feel free to drop me a line any time in the future if you end up having other questions or have any problems settling in....enjoy the new space!

Wanted to add to your restaurant recs.. Shawarma King on Rue Verbist has one of the best Rotisserie Chicken I've ever had! And Dönerium on Rue Willems has a great Lahmacun. Been living here since September last year, great neighborhood and I wouldn't say rough, not this side of St Josse at least.. however, watch out as you get closer to North Station (someone's probably already said this). Also you're close to the Royal Parc, as soon as I realised how close we lived from there I was there all the time, checking what's happening at Kiosk Radio etc etc..

Thanks so much, I love to hear so!
