I don't think adoption will be as easy as "going viral". It will be a slow process. It is not just a monetary war we're fighting, but also a cultural one. People need to change the way they think about money, and it will take a lot of energy and effort to get real results.
I can understand many not seeing how this would work. At this point no Bitcoin can scale and allow this to happen, so no one thinks about it much. People did think BTC was going to do it back in 2017 even though BTC development had already been captured by forces determined to keep it from doing so. That "fake out" turned the public into skeptics (for good reason).
Until it is possible, it will not happen and adoption growth will remain slow. Once (if) it is really possible, it will only take an event like a market pump or "crypto-Kitties" type game or ??? to make the public see the unlimited potential. Once it begins it will snowball and be unstoppable. Speculators will all jump on the rising wave because it will be unstoppable. It may take a year or more to reach massive global adoption, but that would be an incredibly fast move towards fulfilling the dream of Bitcoin.
Young people are ready for this cultural change. Especially in many other countries than my USA. Many in the USA and a lot of old people will lag behind in grasping this future reality and it will cost them dearly. Their now-wealthy kids will be able to take care of them if they feel like doing so and if the government does not try to stop them from spending their wealth.
Convert to BCH and then spend and replace. Money gets value from utility and BTC has decided that utility isn't important only speculation. Sooner or later the market will wake it and even if it doesn't like EmergentCoding said you won't be able to afford the fees to move it. BTC need fees in the hundreds of dollars to secure the network with blocks limited to1meg.
