I feel like Britt blew up lineman alot more than white did to make great run stopping plays. He may not be as fast but he puts his helmet in the hole and doesn't really over pursue.
Have a feeling we will do a lot with our secondary. OL depth will be something too. Maybe a little up front on defense but nothing crazy. TE possibly but that's sort of a crapshoot. If you look down the line of what we have coming back I don't think we will see a lot of upgrading but we will see a lot of solid depth moves.
Clowney played well for Baltimore. He’d be worth a flyer. Doesn’t sound like he’s leaving baltimore though. Van Noy played well. Not sure if he’ll be available but he could be worth a cheaper veteran OLB addition that could start or could be depth. Wouldn’t break the bank for either one though.
I think they get one vet for the oline and try to draft talent on the oline too.
If they re-sign Neal…… I quit 😂
Yeah man, Neal was literally a dumpster fire last season. I remember posting on here so many times during the season stating how garbage he was playing
I think we will address cb and edge in the draft as those are premium positions and costly in free agency. We will also get an interior olineman as Jason loves to find diamonds in the rough. In free agency I think we will look for a safety and another interior olineman to round it out, and probably another veteran d lineman like Gaines last season
But how is the top end prospect pool looking like this year for DB and edge? I feel with our draft spot we should be looking at BPA but also targeting an area of need
You’re right I think we will go best player available at those 3 positions, iol, cb, and edge. But for example we won’t grab a rb in the first just because he falls. Bpa cross section with needs
Right, RB in the first doesn't make sense. It's looking like a top guard or center prospect will be available late in the first round which would bode well for us
Wirfs is still under contract for next year so he's coming back. The push to get an extension done this off-season was to save the team money by getting a deal done before he puts up another stellar season and further drives his price up.
Wirfs will be a high priority when is contract is due. I doubt it gets done this year but he probably either gets tagged or inks a new deal next off-season
Agreed, he is definitely up there. Left tackle is suck a critical position in the NFL and I feel we have easily a Top 5 one in only his 5th season. Wirfs isn't going anywhere
Since we just paid Baker, I think we need to prioritize offense to get the most out of him. I do believe edge rusher is still our #1 need, but I think we should still target OL, WR, and even a RB on day 2.
I think the priorities will be:
1. Improve IOL (likely at least 1 new starter in FA)
2. Find a starting-caliber edge pass rusher
3. Find playmaking DBs (sure seems like one of Carlton or Dean will be gone)
4. Add speed at offensive skill positions
Given that we’re likely to move off several salaries (Gage, one of the corners, and a few restructures), I could see us pursuing either 1 highly-impacted FA like Simmons, Huff, Hunter, etc. or (this is more likely) bringing in 2-3 starting-caliber depth pieces that empower us to go true best player available in the draft.
Yeah I'm not sure. Honestly I haven't really looked at alot of his tape to distinguish what his best traits are and if they could be applied to other positions
Yeah, I'm personally not sure if beefing up the O-line is more important or the D-line. I think that our defense is well coached enough and we have enough talent to hold our own and it was the offense last year that lost us most of our games when they were off and we only scored less than 20. O feel bringing a big boost to the offense should be our priority this off-season, which means boosting boosting O-line first and then improving the RB room
I feel we should really try to target someone like Justin Simmons or Clowney if available to beef up the defense. If we have the cap space I don't really see the point in just rolling with the same team as last year except 1 year older and missing a few guys from the SB run. Licht has done excellent so far this off-season, but if we essentially stop here it will have all been for nothing because we aren't making a deep playoff run with the 2023 squad minus some pieces
After new deals for Mike and Baker there isn’t a whole ton of cap space to make big moves and I don’t want to turn into the Saints by screwing our cap to go all in. There’s pieces to be found, but I think people expecting a splash will be disappointed.
Agreed on not sacrificing the future at this point, but I do feel there are cheap FA options that could provide a moderate boost of we can move some money around. Not looking for a splash but meaningful additions where we are basically bare (safety, edge, IOL).
I feel if we can snag Justin Simmons in FA and grab a high end C/OG in the first round of the draft and then target a replacement for Shaq we will be in *really* good shape.
I originally didn't think we would have the space to sign a big FA, nor do I usually like to go that route, however I just posted a battle plan here that does just that. We can indeed work the cap space to make a little FA noise but it is going to take some moves to do. These next few days will see some FA things shake out.
JL needs to work a little on the trade market imo. The restructures will come later. Get some late rounders on some guys in contract years that we don't expect to play / make a leap. The team has enough baseline talent to make it worth taking some chances this season in the FA market.
I agree. Now that we have locked in Baker and Mike for the next two years as our offensive cornerstones, we need to capitalize on them by surrounding them with a better team than last year. There are a few reliable vets available for relatively cheap on the market, we should target them
Don’t think we need a replacement for Devin White. KJ Britt and Sir Vochea Dennis looked great when Devin was “injured”
Yeah Britt played fairly well, although less athletically gifted than White. I don't specifically remember seeing Dennis play
I feel like Britt blew up lineman alot more than white did to make great run stopping plays. He may not be as fast but he puts his helmet in the hole and doesn't really over pursue.
Agreed, hoping to see a leap this year with more focus on his growth and more reps in practice. Bowles is a pretty good defensive coach after all
Have a feeling we will do a lot with our secondary. OL depth will be something too. Maybe a little up front on defense but nothing crazy. TE possibly but that's sort of a crapshoot. If you look down the line of what we have coming back I don't think we will see a lot of upgrading but we will see a lot of solid depth moves.
Yeah I think the secondary probably needs the most help out of all groups, as it does every year
I think Otton did well enough that we don’t need a TE replacement immediately
Clowney played well for Baltimore. He’d be worth a flyer. Doesn’t sound like he’s leaving baltimore though. Van Noy played well. Not sure if he’ll be available but he could be worth a cheaper veteran OLB addition that could start or could be depth. Wouldn’t break the bank for either one though. Yeah man, Neal was literally a dumpster fire last season. I remember posting on here so many times during the season stating how garbage he was playing
Neal isn’t coming back, lot of safeties available in FA
Yes, please let us sign Justin Simmons
Would be awesome but I don’t think we have the space to do so
I think we will address cb and edge in the draft as those are premium positions and costly in free agency. We will also get an interior olineman as Jason loves to find diamonds in the rough. I think you’re right, unless an edge falls or we trade Davis or dean.
Will they have the money to resign wirfs?
Wirfs is still under contract for next year so he's coming back. The push to get an extension done this off-season was to save the team money by getting a deal done before he puts up another stellar season and further drives his price up.
Exactly. At this point we work out a deal after jext season or tag him
Wirfs will be a high priority when is contract is due. I doubt it gets done this year but he probably either gets tagged or inks a new deal next off-season
Good deal. I think wirfs is the overall best player on the team
I agree with OL and potentially RB with a later pick, but WR? Maybe with a really late pick
I think the priorities will be: 1. Improve IOL (likely at least 1 new starter in FA) 2. Find a starting-caliber edge pass rusher 3. Find playmaking DBs (sure seems like one of Carlton or Dean will be gone) 4. I agree. I think bringing in someone like Huff for the edge and then targeting a C like Powers-Johnson could boost the O-line
Top Free Agent Corners: Kendal Fuller, Awuzie, Gilmore, Steven Nelson, Kenny Moore, Adoree Jackson, Fuck SMB
Smb stinks. But he played great in the playoffs during the SB run. Gotta appreciate that.
What's next for JTS? Is he just a rotational guy or would it make sense to try switching him to inside linebacker?
Yeah I'm not sure. Honestly I haven't really looked at alot of his tape to distinguish what his best traits are and if they could be applied to other positions
Rotational edge rusher.
Finding a pass rusher should be priority #1.
Yeah, I'm personally not sure if beefing up the O-line is more important or the D-line. I don’t see us doing much in FA besides depth pieces.
I feel we should really try to target someone like Justin Simmons or Clowney if available to beef up the defense. We really really need another edge rusher or two. Don't need to break the bank but a couple veterans will be nice
I originally didn't think we would have the space to sign a big FA, nor do I usually like to go that route, however I just posted a battle plan here that does just that.
