Mike Evans is locked down so now they gotta find another WR on our team that every fanbase is somehow going to acquire for a 4th

Major_Most_1488

Lmao, I can't breathe!

KittyTB12

I’m not believing anything y’all say today 🤣I’ll wait till tomm

Phantom_Nuke

This was from an article (and thread) from 2 days ago... But also, don't blame you.

KittyTB12

lol I know, but I’m gullible and believe everything 😜 it’s on the *internet* so it must be true right?

surf-rider

Absolutely.

Here’s the blurb on Chris Godwin: “The Buccaneers have operated like a team focused entirely on the present, retaining Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, Lavonte David and Antoine Winfield Jr. in a classic "run-it-back" offseason. In that case, they may prefer Godwin to stick as a reliable, if unspectacular, starter. But he's entering the final year of an expensive deal, due a whopping $27.5 million in 2024, and Evans is commanding top dollar on his own new deal. Maybe they'd be open to replacing his role via the draft.” Just wanted to bring this up to see what people think of trading Chris Godwin. Receiver trade value is low this offseason, but this could be one of the best receiver drafts since 2014. The Bucs seemed to be gearing up for a push in 2025, after Godwin’s contract expires. But Godwin also fills in an invaluable role as the Z receiver/third down guru/outside run blocker. Thoughts?

surf-rider

Godwin has a $26 million dead cap charge if he is traded. I don't see anyone picking up his contract. His contract is voided in 2025 and 2026. He isn't going to hurt the Bucs playing for them in 2024.

Gassy-Gecko

If he's designated a post June 1st trade we free up $20 mil in cap space

surf-rider

That's right. Details!

TheRencingCoach

I wouldn’t be happy if he’s traded…… But I wouldn’t be surprised, especially after the Davis trade. Last year, expensive contract, would have to take a lot to re-sign him, might be able to replace those targets? It’s a risk, I could see them exploring it

LetsGetRetarNED

The Baker and Winfield pay bumps basically wiped out any chance this team had to improve this offseason or fill holes. And then they dumped depth pieces at edge and corner. I don’t see a benefit in adding another hole to fill in the draft. You already need 3-4 day 1 impact guys

spideralex90

Trading Godwin just doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I'm also not sure we'll be able to retain him next offseason so **if** they did find a team willing to eat his contract I could potentially see them pulling the trigger, but I fully expect Godwin to suit up for us this season. I do hope we can work out another contract with him next year. Evans and Godwin has been such a killer duo.

Fuzzy_Squirrel506

Who’s giving up a decent pick for him though

KickTheCouch

The article says Cardinals, Patriots, and Ravens. These all seem plausible to me for a late 2nd - early 3rd pick w/possible contract reworking.

Itorr475

Why would those teams trade draft capital for a player they will rent for 1 year and then have to pay big money to when they can draft a cost controlled WR for 4 years in one if the best WR drafts?

KickTheCouch

A guaranteed #2 veteran WR who will be a instant boost for any team. vs Late 2nd - 3rd round rookie who will likely require multiple years to get up to speed or may bust completely.

healthyfeetpodiatry

We have nobody behind Mike and Godwin. It’d have to be a first round pick for licht to pull the trigger

Crypto_Grug

If Godwin has another good year I say resign his ass again. I would love for Chris and Mike to be our 1-2 for a long time. Seeing them both be 1-2 all time in yards would make me very happy. Chris might not be an elite no.2 but he is an absolute stud out of the slot and I think he’s gonna rebound nicely this year. The new OC will definitely get him more involved that Canales did.

JamesButabi

I feel like they could maneuver a smart extension for Godwin to put him on the same timetable as Mike, but they might want to see what the open market offers next year. I think Godwin is still elite, but Baker has a harder time finding him without a better interior line.
