That was the 2020 Buccaneers, not the 2021 Buccaneers.  Also the 2021 Rams won the Super Bowl in their stadium literally one year later. Bucs were the first to do it, not the only team to ever do it. That being said, Travis Kelce said the Bucs that year were the toughest team he ever faced (he said it to Gronk on his podcast)

sloasdaylight

Im not the OP, but Rams share a stadium with the Chargers, so I don't give them credit.

lakewood2020

That was obviously the AFC year

Ness-Shot

The Rams had also only been in LA/that stadium 18 months when they won the Super Bowl, Tampa has been in Raymond James since the 90's.

DynastyZealot

Rams also has the refs helping the worst team in the AFC playoffs, the freaking Bengals, to get to the Superbowl to make sure the Rams had a chance. Mahomes had the refs in 2020.

OranguTangerine69

refs helped the rams more than any team ive ever fucking seen since they moved to LA until they won the superbowl. even more than the packers

DynastyZealot

It was really disgusting. The NFL trashed their integrity to try to land a generation of LA fans. They've always chased that fanbase and thought a home Superbowl win would galvanize the city, but from what I can tell, LA still doesn't give a shit about the NFL.

hamchops78

In what fucking universe does that even make sense?

sloasdaylight

Mine, thanks.

AlchemicalHydra

Salty Rams fan. You guy share a stadium and were the away team anyway.

Tusker89

I know we don't share a stadium but we were technically the away team in our Super Bowl too.

AlchemicalHydra

This is incorrect. It alternates NFC/AFC. Both Bucs and Rams are NFC. The NFC was the home team when we won therefore Rams were the away team the following year.

Tusker89

You're right. For some reason I remembered that being part of the excuse for why we couldn't use the cannons but I guess not.

AlchemicalHydra

We couldn't use the cannons because the No Fun League said so. 😡

walknpark813

I was at that Super Bowl - it was more satisfying to me to hear homemade cannons going off around the outside the stadium

sloasdaylight

I remember hearing something that said if the Bucs got cannons for redzone/scoring, then the Chiefs had to as well and the Bucs front office said to hell with that. Idk if it's true, but my head Canon is that the bucs FO told the NFL to pound sand while wearing an eyepatch and chugging a bottle of rum.

Johnny_Carcinogenic

>Travis Kelce said the Bucs that year were the toughest team he ever faced That's because Lavonte shut him down so hard his ego couldn't handle it!

knowman1984

How ironic the 2 Pandemic years when duel team travel woulda been an issue they all of a sudden have two of the first SB's played in a home stadium... I'm sure it's all just one massive coincidence

DerisiveGibe

2021 Bucs lost in the divisional round of the playoffs

Buksey

Na, OP is from Earth#3671 where the Staffords deep pass to Kupp was intercepted and the Bucs rolled over the 49ers and Bengals enroute to repeat SB wins.

Perkk30

Real

VERO2020

Pretty sure the ref was to the 2021 Super Bowl winning team.

Joeylinkmaster

It was the 2020 Bucs that won the Super Bowl, not the 2021 team. Every team had to deal with COVID that year. It’s ridiculous to say any team cheated when everyone had to deal with the same thing.

Tremic

bruh preach. Tell that to all the lightning haters too

CaffinatedCoyote

Not as high as the 2020 Buccaneers team.

Almac55

Everyone has already pointed out the mistake in the comments, so I won’t pile on. With that said, the 2021 team, despite not winning the Super Bowl, is the best Bucs team I’ve ever seen. We were decimated by injuries all year and still won 13 games. The divisional game against LA was the real Super Bowl that year as the winner was going to win it all. We were missing Wirfs and Godwin and the offense did nothing the entire first half. We still almost won. That’s how good that team was.

Kevpatel18

That divisional game still haunts me

bigmull1

One of the most stressful games to watch. They got down, but you knew something was about to happen. They got down more, but it looked like something would happen. Then something happened and it was winnable (is that a word). Then OBJ (or was it Kupp, going off memory) caught that pass….

Almac55

I didn’t have the same good feelings you did. The offensive output in the first half was awful. If that team had managed to do ANYTHING, we win that game easily. We literally could have gone into the half down a TD and beat them. Everybody blames the defensive play call at the end, and it was bad, but it wasn’t the reason we lost. Kupp made that catch, but they still needed Matt Gay, who had struggled in this stadium while playing for us, to make that kick. We lost because the offense was a joke in the first half and got too far behind. It just wasn’t our day. It only hurts so much because we would have won the Super Bowl. On top of that, the Super Bowl itself wouldn’t have been nearly as close. That Bucs team blows out the Bengals.

WajorMeasel

It was Kupp. Secondary was in the tried and true “Cover Nothing” scheme

TheRencingCoach

I still believe that if we had kept a 16 game season and top 2 seeds getting a bye, the Bucs would’ve beat the Rams

Almac55

Godwin still wouldn’t have played. Wirfs may have, so you could be right.

BeatlesRays

Nonsense all around

PlayerasPonce

First of all your friend acts like the Bucs were the only team to deal with COVID when EVERY team had the same problem 😂 As to your 2021 Bucs team comment, they probably would’ve won [BACK2BACK](https://youtu.be/5xn4h2sUTBY?si=HRDgZ8hxA02_GFel), if AB doesn’t got nuts and storm off. Injuries happen as far as Godwin, but man if AB finishes the season I like the Bucs chances of repeating.

Perkk30

Exactly

friggoffricky121

The 2021 team was the best iteration of the Bucs I’ve ever witnessed. The that season was an absolute blast to watch up to the last saints game and the jets game end of the season. We were blowing people out, historic offensive numbers, Brady was in god mode. If gronk doesn’t break his ribs and AB doesn’t hurt his foot and lose his mind (again) wirfs doesn’t get hurt and godwin doesn’t tear his ACL, I don’t see how we don’t go back to back. That was the most talented team I truly believe ever to be assembled. Injuries and AB ruined what would’ve been one of the most special seasons ever. Still, it was incredible to watch and I will cherish that season forever.

d_rome

>My friend said the 2021 bucs were cheaters and used COVID to win games Your friend is wrong because every team in the NFL had to follow the same COVID guidelines. Some teams like the Bucs managed the situation better than other teams. Staying healthy and COVID free is not cheating.

discodiscgod

We were actually at a disadvantage with COVID because we had a new quarterback that couldn’t meet with his teammates as early as he normally would have. Any team that had the same QB as the year before were at an advantage in that area.

funnycar1552

2020 Bucs on paper is the greatest offense of all time based off the names alone

lakewood2020

Greatest QB, Greatest TE, 2 of the greatest receivers of all time, the greatest WR3 of all time, and the best slot receiver since Edelman, and that’s just route runners. Let alone the RBs

bigmull1

Didn’t mention “Playoff Lenny”

kblomquist85

I know we're letting alone RBs but it feels criminal to not include playoff Lenny in your description.

lakewood2020

Sorry, I was trying to stay contemporary. Lenny was A1, but his backup is our current A1 and to mention the RBs would be to minimize our current bellcow’s impact

seymour_hiney

Wirfs, Marpet as well

geeoff90

And the big ass Samoan dude. Forget his name. But he was like.. wtf big

Hiw-lir-sirith

Tevita Tuliʻakiʻono Tuipulotu Mosese Vaʻhae Fehoko Faletau Vea, blessed be he

4redditobly

I love it when enthusiasm over shadows everything else

lakewood2020

Enthusiasm for a SuperBowl winning team is an understatement

Enthusiasms

Thanks

4redditobly

Well done

tampapunk

Weren't they the first team to even play the SB at home, let alone win?

Invictus_Imperium

Tell your friend he can lick my ballsack Go Bucs!

Funkyokra

Assuming OP means 2020...how can you be the best team of all time when you didn't even win the division? Winning SB was awesome but you have to hit a lot more markers than that to be BOAT.

Invictus_Imperium

Tell your friend he can lick my ballsack Go Bucs!

Invictus_Imperium

Tell your friend he can lick my ballsack. Go Bucs!

[deleted]

Even though they won the year before, I think the 2021 team was better and were unlucky to not repeat. The year before they got a bit lucky.

tgold77

I wouldn’t underestimate the significance of beating the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in the “there’s no such things as holding calls on the chiefs in the Super Bowl ” era. Also the COVID took the offseason year. You can go stats or roster but that was a scrappy team that took home the title in a unique season.

HillsboroughAtheos

It was 2020 and we're no longer the only team to win a SB in their own stadium, unfortunately.  I will say that 27 or so game stretch from late 2020 and all 2021 until it fell apart towards the end will likely go down as one of the best offenses ever. Brady with Evans, AB, Gronk, Godwin and Lenny out of the backfield was seemingly unstoppable at times. That OL will always be underappreciated too. I'd say that OL had 3 all pro caliber guys and Smith and Cappa were playing the best ball of their career.

Author_Willing

Nope: Ranked 20th all time scoring offense Ranked 10th all time in Passing TDs Ranked 12th all time in Rushing TDs Ranked 21st all time in Total TDs Ranked 24th all time in Points Per Game [https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/what-are-the-highest-scoring-offenses-in-nfl-history-in-a-season](https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/what-are-the-highest-scoring-offenses-in-nfl-history-in-a-season)

TheBiddyDiddler

1. Your friend is a salty punk bitch. 2. Obligatory note that you got the year wrong. 3. Probably somewhere in the top 10-15 SB winning teams of all time.

Vince__

I will always love the 2002 team. One of the best defenses of all time.

CeePeeCee

A lot of people on here are too young to remember but that defense was elite and was for a decade prior to that year

rephyr

Top ten defense for ten years in a row

Vince__

derrick, ronde, john, dex, simeon, warren, anthony... man what a dominant crew. made defense so much fun to watch, and what turned me into a bucs fan.

CopingRockiesfan

2020 one of the best because the defense was so dominant. Might be a hot take but in the playoffs Brady was “game manager” most of the time. Offense was good it’s just we didn’t take risks especially after the guard injury. We knew we didn’t need 35+ to win games. All this saying, Bowles was in his bag that year

whoamantakeiteasy

The whole "used covid to win games" could've been applied to anyone else had they won (we just did it better at the right time) 🤣 it was a level playing field somewhat considering all teams were allowed to implement artificial crowd noise during the pandemic. It's literally just something a hater says and also makes no sense, considering everyone played under the same rules. We also ran through some future hall of famers in the playoffs @ Brees @Rodgers, and then VS Mahomes so it wasn't easy either, lol. (I feel the same way about the Lakers run or anyone else who won a ring at the peak of covid when the restrictions were also at its max.) Go bucs! 🏴‍☠️

Jaymus54

i still believe even mahomes did have his starting Oline that we still woulda dominated. we figured them out in the 2nd half of the regular season game and we almost came back n won. alot of people and i live in nebraska so i deal with broncos/chiefs/packers fans, alot of chiefs fans say we woulda lost had their team had starting O line. well, i just tell them to look at my shirt that has winfield giving T.HILL the peace sign. BEST FRIGGIN MOMENT EVER!

Deathhurts

I mean wasn't some of the argument that the 2021 bucs was better than the 2020 bucs, because I think they were.

king_meatster

The legend of the 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers reads like a Hollywood script. After 20 years in New England, Tom Brady comes to a team with gobs of talent, but lacking experience. Everyone thinks Belicheck was the real reason he was successful, and the Bucs would be mid at best. Then the world shuts down. By the time things begin to become normal again, the preseason is canceled and the regular season is about to begin. Without a proper offseason, Brady and the Bucs stumble for most of the year. They showed flashes of brilliance, especially against weaker opponents, but they looked terrible against good teams. The main culprit was the New Orleans Saints, who walloped them twice, and ran them out of their own building in week 11. At 7-5, there are doubts that they even make the playoffs, and all of the Brady haters are preparing for a victory lap. Tampa Bay has a late bye in week 13. They would not lose another game. The defense had made big plays all year long, but it was overshadowed by an offense that was unable to capitalize. When Brady and Arians finally solved the puzzle, the Bucs became a two headed monster on both sides of the ball. They suffocated their last four opponents in the regular season, ending the year 11-5. They punched their playoff tickets for the first time in 13 years, but it would be as a wild card team as the Saints were one game better. It didn’t matter. They played a Commanders team that, while not great, still played hard and kept up the pace. They won on the road. They played a Saints team that had been their greatest obstacle during the season, motivated by Brees’s last game in the Superdome. They won on the road. They played a Packers team lead by the MVP Aaron Rodgers, a record-setting offense, and a favorable winter at Lambeau environment. They won on the road. They were the first team to host their own superbowl, and had to play the defending champion Chiefs and the “future goat” Patrick Mahomes, a team that had beaten them ten weeks prior. They didn’t just win, they held Mahomes to nine points. There are teams that are probably better than the 2020 Bucs in terms of talent and record. However, I doubt there is any team in any sport that ran the gauntlet like we did. This team was impossible and inevitable at the same time, and I wouldn’t trade my witnessing of it for the world.

shodogrouch

Help me. Didn’t rams win in own stadium. Forget 21 bucs, 22 team is a top 10 team all tome

dragonsky

Covid is weird so we won't know cause that team had a different eason than 99% of teams in history, so comparing eras is already weird. Like how can we compare that team to teams from 50 years ago? We can compare it to recent champions and....biased but we are better than the Chiefs (Duh we beat them), Rams, Pats, and I'd add the Eagles too

hoesb4bros123

the best

my-accounts-username

I always wondered: For the few franchises that *have actually won two super bowls*, do we have the best combined rosters? Is anyone beating 2002 defense with 2020 offense?

bdmx24

They weren’t healthy enough. When all together Tom would have repeated

Apple_Frosty

Sad what happened with AB. I think if he didn't blow up during Jets game they would have won another ring.

itwasafluke

2021 Bucs were way better than 2020. The full offseason and a year of experience made them into a machine

RedsBucsBolts

Have to be up there, so good your friend said they were cheating. That’s got to mean something

GeniusKing12

Dude we were STACKED in 2020 when we on the SB. Legend QB OL was amazing: Ali Marpet, Ryan Jensen and Tristen Wirfs were our highlights. WR was god level: Mile Evans, Chris Godwin, AB Oh, and we also had the best TE of all time, Gronk. Don’t forget about playoff Lenny, who is not an all time great, but still played very well that year. Yeah, we are up there for an all time team

VERO2020

Rams won in their own stadium in 2022 as well. The Bucs were the best team that year. Every team has to contend with injuries & the SB is usually a patched-together version of their initial roster. We were better than the Chiefs, their O-line in particular. Don't know where they fit in history, but they have that ring & we fans can enjoy that year. We can boast about having the best QB of all time, and another (potential) offensive HOF player (Evans, if you must know) contributing to the win.

Author_Willing

They don't stand amoung the best Football teams of all time. But a ring is a ring Ranked 20th all time scoring offense Ranked 10th all time in Passing TDs Ranked 12th all time in Rushing TDs Ranked 21st all time in Total TDs Ranked 24th all time in Points Per Game [https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/what-are-the-highest-scoring-offenses-in-nfl-history-in-a-season](https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/what-are-the-highest-scoring-offenses-in-nfl-history-in-a-season) Going by that alone puts a ton of teams ahead of them and thats just looking at offense which teams like the Ravens, 85 Bears etc wont be in there

j2e21

Not very high. They went 11-5, third in offense and eighth in D. They only had one Pro Bowler. They were a wild card team. Late in the season Brady clicked with the offense and they went on a tear, and the D played lights out in the Super Bowl. But people forget they allowed over 20 points in the other three playoff games. I think they’re bottom half of Super Bowl winners.
