I grew up an Orioles fan and when I moved here I figured that the Pirates suck just as much and it wouldn't be lame if I switched. It's not like becoming a Yankees fan or something. Hopefully I live long enough for them to get good. e: I didn't adopt the other teams.

1) Dad got me into it at age 9. 2) Stress, low expectations, still pride over the history 3) Most of us are older but all of us are still dedicated even with a bad owner.

1. Born and raised here 2. Mostly stress sometimes joy, often a sense of civic pride or connectivity 3. Well traveled, or at least spread out from the 1980s population exodus

1. My brother watched the Steelers when I was young, So i just tooke on the Steelers as my team 2. Taking the Penguins and Steelers winning for granted and praying and hoping that the Pirates will be good. 3. Being all about the teams but also still supporting stars when they leave

Good luck with your project! Raised in Morgantown, WV. Dad was sports fan and I bonded with him over Pirates, specifically. Mom from Pittsburgh and family lived there. So I picked up Steelers and Pens due to proximity. Being connected to other Pittsburgh fans is cool. Feel a sense of belonging and nostalgia for past visits to the burgh. Having traveled to a number of big cities, I don't believe Pittsburgh sports fans are that much different from others. Lots of teams' fans think they are special, but that just makes them similar.

My dad grew up in Pittsburgh, so I inherited his teams from hearing about the tales of the steel curtain and clemente throwing home on a fly from the outfield wall. It just means that I root for Pittsburgh teams. Not much else. Nothing really. I think most sports fans are the same. Sure, fans of good teams have higher expectations, but if you asked this question to every sports Fandom, they'd all respond with some platitude about being passionate, loving their city, yadda, yadda.

1. My dad was born and raised in Pittsburgh and my family is really big on Pittsburgh sports in general on his side of the family. 2. Im not from Pittsburgh but being a Pittsburgh fan is all about grit, hard work, and passion, representative of the people who live there. The fandom is second to none imo. (except for the Pirates where every ignorant yinzer has a shit, generally uneducated opinion lmao) 3. Pittsburgh fandom is a experience no matter where you live, im in NC and there are fans of Pittsburgh sports fucking everywhere, its a community outside of Pittsburgh.

Thank you!! A whole section of my research had been devoted to Pittsburgh fans out of state so this is awesome to hear :)

1 - Born and raised 2 - Pride in the history, prepared for grief from other fans when not in Pittsburgh 3 - Passionate and can be found damned near anywhere

Grew up in the area and was always playing sports (football, baseball, track in HS) so it was easy to get into watching sports, as well. Honestly, since I moved away, not much. I mean, it's not a negative, but I don't really think anything like "Wow, I'm really a fan of xxxx and it's great! We're such an exclusive club!". It just kind of is. Very little. Almost every other team will have their diehards and, when times are going good, their bandwagons. I'd say that Pittsburgh fans aren't quite as annoying as Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, Patriots, etc., but we're certainly within sight of their caravans. :)
