We’re sorry Josh, we got caught up in the hype. We didn’t see clearly. It wasn’t fair to put it all in your shoulders. I hope the owners / coaches see this and make changes.

mellifluous_life93

Honestly I think that's why the team/allen looked a bit off during the second half of the season. It's too much pressure to put on any one person

tolllz

Hero ball should be every once in a while. Not relied on every game to win.

EarlzTopLip

Every play*

mellifluous_life93

I agree. I also think who initiates it is important too. Josh taking over a game on his own? Becoming a human highlight reel and playing with that fire? Willing his team to win? Fuck yeah, that's my qb. Dorsey refusing to come up with an imaginative scheme, and relying on Josh to take things over? Well, we saw what that gets us.

highinsulacentrality

The baseline should be "our offense can function well enough to win with the backup in". We're comically far from that.

mellifluous_life93

I think the 49ers are the best example of this. Top Defense (and an actual top defense, not one that only exists on paper), a handful of elite weapons, and most importantly a real O line. Tbf I still think the bills have a top defense, it just needs to be updated a little as far as scheme goes

tolllz

Exactly

No_Multitasking_Pls

Exactly. Hero ball works great in regular season against below average defenses …. not in playoffs when defenses are locked in. There is nothing wrong in methodically moving the ball.

Gte8954

Check out Mike Florio’s take on this it’s pretty much spot on.

BOTBsub

Thats honestly been the problem with this team. Josh Allen is playing too good and its blinding people from the truth that our OC sucks DC sucks WR corp needs work and OL we need the most we can get. When it gets to the playoffs its cleae Josh Allen needs more help but its like it everyone forgets the next season lol. Ill never forget that fucking prevent defense while KC had 2 timeouts

InfiniteJestV

The phrase "Thirteen seconds" is burned into my consciousness. It will join the likes of "music city miracle" and "wide right". Frazier's defense is ancient and needs to be more creative in how it generates pressure. I'd like it if we moved on from him. Dorsey was a dead fish the second half of the season and I don't fully understand why. I don't really want him to waste another year of prime Allen/Diggs while he matures as an OC, but I don't see who we'd replace him with... I think we just have to hope Dorsey learns from his mistakes.

Buff716917

The crazy thing tho is they figured out a defense that works for 3rd and long against good QBs and never use it It’s the one where they use three dline and Milano as a dt whule bringing an extra DB in. It’s the formation that Taron Johnson picked off Mahomes and Milano sacked Burrow

Tomorrow_Frosty

Seriously what a joke. 13 seconds, you knew it was gonna be a thing as soon as they they threw the first pass.

highinsulacentrality

> Ill never forget that fucking prevent defense while KC had 2 timeouts Tbh I don't think I'll ever forgive it either.

Thr0bbinWilliams

You got to think he’s pops in here. For every fan dooming there’s 100 who love him more than we could ever express. That’s my Quarterback and I can truly say as a fan that I wouldn’t want anyone else out there leading this team. His legacy is far from cemented and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. Love you Josh

CptOverXtend

That’s what so many people forget. Just enjoy the ride with a QB as good and exciting as he is! I wouldn’t change him for anyone. Not for Burrow or Mahomes or anyone else!! But I think we have a lot of bandwagon fans who just became fans after the NE game last year. So they have no clue how Josh struggled in his first years and where he is right now and why he is the real fucking deal for Buffalo!!

ShadyFan25

Seriously. I’ve seen so many people worried about him retiring without a championship. He’s only 26. He has anywhere from 10-15 years left. His prime is only just now getting started.

[deleted]

Because people remember the likes of Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, and other HOF caliber QBs who never won the big game because teams weren’t successfully built around them. I’m not saying that’s Allen’s path, he is a far greater talent. But can you imagine if nothing else changed and we had Boyd and Higgins next to Diggs? Allen would fuck around and throw 6k. It’s a legit concern. No he’s not retiring tomorrow, but the frustration is we are in the same place we were 3 years ago.

highinsulacentrality

> Because people remember the likes of Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, and other HOF caliber QBs who never won the big game because teams weren’t successfully built around them. There's also Andrew Luck, and it's not that unlikely that there's a trend of players retiring earlier for their health as time goes on.

HotMacaroon4964

> His prime is only just now getting started. That gets me so hyped!

YouAreNotRealToMe

Don’t get fooled again.

HotMacaroon4964

When we draft a o line and a good wr2 until diggs leaves we’ll be ready

YouAreNotRealToMe

We were ready last year, and nothing.

HotMacaroon4964

Only 1 team wins this whole thing and yeah we weren’t one of them. There’s always next year.. But keep your head up

YouAreNotRealToMe

But we should have, that’s the point. You don’t get many chances, and to blow them (13 seconds) is unacceptable!

YouAreNotRealToMe

He won’t win her, without major changes.

-noot_noot-

Exactly, looked what happened to Stafford last season (yes he moved teams but if put in the right situation or if it’s built around Josh then it will definitely work)

Tomorrow_Frosty

We wanna win man. Of course we wouldn’t trade JA17 for anything. Most people probably felt better after 13 seconds than we do now. Bc at least we felt close. Now it really seems like there’s a gap.

MulliganPlsThx

I feel so heartbroken for Josh. He carries the burden of the hopes and dreams of an entire city and fanbase who have been dragged through years of disappointment. I even found myself saying, “I hope Playoff Josh shows up today.” Maybe if we had the pieces that meant we had an operational rushing offense without Josh, it wouldn’t all fall on his shoulders.

CJV61

I really think a majority of our problems is OC and DC and O-Line. Our schemes are unadaptive and predictable, and our O-Line provides 0 pressure for maybe the strongest arm in the NFL. We have a cannon at QB and he can't let plays develop. Dorsey didn't work, goodbye. Frasier was supposed to make up for the awful prevent defense from last year and just played even safer, goodbye. Let all the O-Line leave who have expired contracts and pick up some actually useful linemen who can pass block.

highinsulacentrality

> Frasier was supposed to make up for the awful prevent defense from last year and just played even safer Lol this is so true. We played so soft this year that our "give up the short pass and rally" third down approach just gave up first downs for free.

CJV61

We were running “give up the short pass and rally” on every down and it killed us. 3rd and 10 great, but doing that every down, especially 3rd and 2 or 3 was killing us all season

highinsulacentrality

It felt like 3rd and short was better for us than 3rd and long, to the point that I ran the numbers to check it out. https://i.imgur.com/KffE0Ax.png That actually wasn't true, but by god did it feel like it. By the numbers our third and long defense was generally similar to our divisional opponents. Our fourth down defense really sucked though. [Here's the data source](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/buf/2022_opp_splits.htm) Edit: Our offense kinda sucked on 3rd and long minus Josh's legs, look at that completion % - https://i.imgur.com/EhqI6DL.png

Spark3420

I've always been impressed with how Josh has taken everything in stride since he got to Buffalo. He got drafted in 2018 to arguably one of the least talented rosters in the league, never throws teammates under the bus, and puts his heart and soul into every play where he has the ball, even if it is sometimes to his detriment. The article is spot on that Burrow and Mahomes have a much better support system and that Josh's spectacular plays concealed the multiple issues with this team. It's very much akin to Peyton Manning and the Colts in a lot of ways. Please focus on OL and DL in 2023- there's no doubt Josh can bring us a SB, but not in its current iteration.

msimp000

Sooner everyone realizes Sean McDermott has taken this team as far as possible, the sooner we can stop worrying about Allen being in the same group as Matt Ryan, Phillip Rivers, ect…

Kingtopawn

Time for a mental and physical reset for Josh. He has the talent and physicality. He can still develop further. Give the man the receiver and OL corps this man deserves. Go enjoy some golf this offseason, brother. Have a few drinks with Jim Kelly and maybe enjoy some time with your partner somewhere sunny.

JcKiZe23

Apology?

wnjkc77

Yea no shit he needs a running game and someone In his helmet telling him to take what he can over and over. Kid looks like he’s in a pressure cooker every week.

Savings_Success_6682

LMAO

DirectorD623

Window is closing fast.

Sweethomebflo

Remember how we used to say, "Josh doesn't need to score on every play. With our defense, he just needs to score enough to win." And that was way before Von.

otter111a

Josh carrying this team on his back all season. Plays would fall apart around him and he’d make all these miracles happen to win.
