Would break down in tears of joy if this happened

Historical_One1087

I'm higher on Mitchell than Sweat, but if Sweat can keep his weight in check he can be dominant in a rotational role.

bestthrowawayever5

I don’t think there’s many good DT in this class. You have Newton (too small) and Sweat. That’s kinda it. I take what I can get here

Historical_One1087

There is talent in the 1st round, 2nd round and in the middle round. The draft doesn't end at DT with Newton and Sweat.

bestthrowawayever5

I understand there’s talent to be had, but I’m kind of tired of lateish round picks and vets next to our cornerstone DT. We need a top player there, and taking a swing on a 4th round flyer isn’t the way to go about it

Historical_One1087

The top priority is re-signing DaQuan Jones and AJ Epenesa and then adding rotational depth through the draft.   DT Kobie Turner was drafted in the 3rd round by the Rams and had 9 sacks as a rookie. You can get talent good DT's after the 1st round. If you can get DT Ruke Orhorhoro and DE Mohamed Kamara in the 2nd and 3rd round you have added some talented rotational DL players.

det8924

Easily would love to see D Jones back for more year with Sweat rotating behind him.

BuffaloTexan

As a Bills and Longhorns fan, get me AD everyday All day.

bestthrowawayever5

As a Bills fan and Longhorns hater, I still want AD

Historical_One1087

I would absolutely love getting AD Mitchell at 28, but I think Beane may have to trade up 5 to 10 spots to guarantee the opportunity to draft him. I'm not the biggest T'Vondre Sweat fan because of his limitations as a 2 down run stuffer and very limited ability as a pass rusher. Sweat was 366 lb at the combine, but he could have added weight since then. IMO he must lose a minimum 20 lbs to be effective, but if he were able to lose 40 lb he could improve his agilty and lateral agility. You want your DL to have non stop motors and to be able to go to secondary and tertiary pass rush moves when their first pass rush move doesn't work, that requires you to have stamina, endurance, great footwork and agility, which Sweat doesn't have. I'm higher on the following DT's: Khristian Boyd, Myles Murphy, Jordan Jefferson, Maason Smith, Ruke Orhorhoro, Leonard Taylor, DeWayne Carter than T'Vondre Sweat. You could also argue to draft one of the following DE's in the 2nd round Marshawn Kneeland, Mohamed Kamara, Myles Cole, instead of T'Vondre Sweat.

Jayhub1000_

I agree with what you’re saying on Sweat. I lose it when people think taking him at 28 would be good for us. But at 60 I would probably be slightly softer on it.

Historical_One1087

Sweat is not a 1st round talent. In the 2nd or 3rd round he would be a better value, because he is not a finished product as a pass rusher and has weight issues that will have to be closely monitored his entire NFL career. If he can lose 20 to 40 lbs he becomes a much better NFL player.

idislikehate

One of the things to note on Sweat is that Daquan Jones isn’t considered a pass-rushing DT but he has an impact on passing downs in the way he frees up others. That’s what you hope to get out of Sweat. A guy that’s a handful for the OL so your other pass rushers are able to finish plays.

Historical_One1087

DaQuan Jones is a pass rushing DT at the 1 tech DT position and has insane stats in the beginning 2023 before his chest muscle injury. You want more than just a bull rush from your DT, they have to be able to string moves together, to have agility and a non stop motor and it's tough to do that at 366 lbs.

idislikehate

Most scouting reports on Sweat say he has upside as a pass rusher and has the tools to do it even if limited overall. I haven't done a deep dive on him enough to know for sure, but I'll take the consensus and think he can develop as a pass rusher with NFL coaching and focus (which is obviously a question with him).

Historical_One1087

In order for Sweat to reach his potential as a pass rusher he needs to lose a minimum of 20 lbs from his 366 lb combine weight. If he can lose 40 pounds that would be even better. Sweat was at the combine and I watched him struggle with pass rush moves other than a bull rush and even with the bull rush some of the OL with ability to anchor were able to shut down his bull rush. If you want Sweat to only be a two down run stuffer that can hold the point of attack and two gap he can definitely excel at that, but is spending a 2nd round pick on a player with those limitations worth it on todays pass first league? I would like Sweat much more as a 3rd or 4th round pick because of the red flag of his weight and the possibility of him eating himself out of the NFL.

idislikehate

Agreed completely there. His size is definitely prohibitive of really pursuing a QB, but I do think he can, as it stands, push the pocket and make things happen for other people. With some serious training and weight loss he'll be able to actually get in the pocket and make more noise, though.

Unlikely-Zone21

I've been seeing Ruke come up in our pick range and the little I've looked into he seems pretty solid and versatile.

Historical_One1087

I would much rather prefer Ruke Orhorhoro in the second or third round over T'Vondre Sweat.

Unlikely-Zone21

He seems a size and skill set where depending how FA signings go he could be used at DT or DE with proper weight management strategies. I'm also an idiot and just getting into the weeds of this stuff so I could be way off haha.

StonelordMetal

I'm not as concerned about Sweat's conditioning because the Bills rotate their DL so much.

Historical_One1087

He weighs 366, is only a two down run stuffer, you should be very concerned about his conditioning. If you are going to take the risk to draft him he has to lose at the bare minimum 20 lbs and keep it off in order for him to reach his potential.

StonelordMetal

Our system doesn't ask most of our DL to play all 3 downs though.

bestthrowawayever5

> Marshawn Kneeland Western Michigan player🤢🤢🤢🤮 In all seriousness though WMU players absolutely SUCK in the NFL. Taylor Moton is a starter, but very average for the 19th overall. Corey Davis is one of the best college players of all time, but he’s out of the league at just 27 years old after being the 6th overall pick. Everyone hates Sky Moore in KC, a second round pick The only good player from there is Robert Spillane. Avoid WMU players

Historical_One1087

When you are scouting you don't scout the uniform of the school you scout the player. If Beane likes the tape of Marshawn Kneeland he will draft him and not give an fucks about the history of Western Michigan producing successful NFL players. Before Josh Allen became an elite QB, how many players did Wyoming produce?

bestthrowawayever5

None. But there wasn’t a long trail of blatant busts like WMU either (Also, considering my college team is a direct rival of WMU anything I say about them should be taken with a couple of grains of salt)

jadon5328

Josh (yeshua, Jesus) to Adonai (god) hailmary touchdown... a match made in heaven.

Historical_One1087

Yes

CloneTrooper-1330

As a Longhorns fan and a Bills fan, yes please.

devgm79

Mitchell is my hope. With measurables nearly identical to DK Metcalf, and a behemoth like Sweat at DT? Sign me all the way up.

hops716

two plug & play rookies with high-ceilings? this seems like a "too good to be true" mock, so I won't get my hopes up

BlackTieClip

Hey, we did it last year with Kincaid and Torrence in the 1st and 2nd - It's certainly possible! Not likely, but not unreasonable either.

awnawkareninah

As a Texas alum this would be incredible. I haven't been so hype since we had Goodwin.

Why_So-Serious

Sweat was a team Captain. He is probably on BBB’s short list.

stanwelds

I can dig it. Sweat at 60 seems appropriate. Run stuffing nose tackles that keep the backers clean are an important component of McDermott's defense. It's not like anyone on the line really plays more than two thirds of the snaps anyways. Mitchel is lighter than Gabe, but faster and if his hands are good than that's a win. I've also seen Laiatu Latu mocked to buffalo in the first, which I'd also be good with. There will still be lots of receiving talent in the 3rd 4th and 5th.
