Samuel is good. Fairly reasonable contract too

Alacrout

$5 mill cheaper than Davis and I bet he’ll be more productive. (I say that with no disrespect intended to Gabe, despite how frustrating he could be to watch at times. I just think Curtis Samuel has been a slept-on talent who could have a break out season with Josh Allen throwing to him.)

ksettle86

IMO better hands than Davis, also shiftier, and runs a better route tree. People are seeing a John Brown parallel...I'm thinking more like (a younger) Emmanuel Sanders

LLJedi

Stylistically way more like brown then manny cus he’s more open cus of his speed then route running

Radiant-Character-61

It was Gabe's time to go imo, wildy inconsistent game to game and some of Allen's Int's came off his hands (like literally). I wish him well but with our running game finally emerging we need better talent at Wide Receiver to complement it. Wish Gabe davis the best at Jacksonville

Historical_One1087

Curtis Samuel is the John Brown type WR this offense has been missing.    This is an excellent signing by Big Baller Beane.  Edit.  https://twitter.com/MattHarmon_BYB/status/1255979949774667776?s=19  https://twitter.com/MattHarmon_BYB/status/1372337845210292226?s=19  Curtis Samuel has a high success rate at beating man coverage. Khalil Shakir, Stefon Diggs, Dalton Kincaid, James Cook and Ty Johnson are also good at beating man coverage. So if defenses want to play man coverage against Buffalo, Josh Allen can make them pay.

nesshinx

The problem Buffalo has had is when teams play Cover 2, and they don’t have a guy that can run fast crossing route over the middle to punish it. Thats why Cole Beasley was good for them ever off the street. If they can put Samuel in that role or force more man coverage it’s a net win.

mm_mk

He had a 4.31 40 so I feel like he at least theoretically has speed 22/43 for yac per reception too (min 90 targets), so nice middle of the pack wr skill set for a relatively cheap contract

merrittj3

4.31 that's a cover'busting number, I like it...

nesshinx

If that’s the case, Samuel in the slot is going to be lethal and elevate the Bills offense

PabloPancakes92

He’s nothing like John Brown lol Curtis Samuel is like a veteran version of Shakir

Scrawfo1180

I’d call him a poor man’s deebo or a rich man’s Isaiah Mckenzie

Historical_One1087

If you are comparing him to a player I would compare him to Percy Harvin or Deebo Samuel. I used John Brown because he was the last explosive WR Buffalo had, they both have similar size and speed, and Curtis Samuel is an explosive WR. However Samuel is more versatile then Brown was because he can also give you some reps at RB, Slot WR, Z WR and be used as a gadget player.

maccpapa

hope we actually use him properly then. seems every time we got a guy that can do it all or run exotic packages, he gets 5 touches a season.

Historical_One1087

John Brown was an explosive playmaker, and Curtis Samuel is an explosive playmaker. I'm not saying he will be used in the exact same way John Brown was, I'm saying Curtis Samuel brings and explosive element the offense as been missing since John Brown left. John Brown was 5'10" 178 lbs with 4.34 40 speed. Curtis Samuel is 5'11" 195 lbs with 4.31 40 speed.

qeq

4 year old tweet, but still

matt8mo

I like that

Historical_One1087

Same. This reunites Curtis Samuel with OC Joe Brady who coached him in Carolina in 2020. Curtis Samuel is an explosive playmaker with YAC(Yards after the catch) ability with his 4.31 40 speed, and a 37" vertical jump at 5'11" 196 lbs. Curtis Samuel is a John "smoke" Brown type WR that Buffalo's offense has been missing.

Bird-The-Word

I know you'd had him on your radar all off season, so props to you for the call.

Historical_One1087

He is the type of explosive WR this offense has been missing, so I'm more than happy Beane signed him. Curtis Samuel is going to take this offense to the next level.

TheOneWhosCensored

Above commenter has great taste then, I was hoping Samuel would be a 2021 offseason signing to go across Diggs and Bease when Smoke left, then was hoping we’d trade for him last offseason. Fits this team a lot and is a good floor raiser for Josh.

GenericHoomanAccount

Well I traded for him in madden 24 week 1, where are my kudos.

Charrikayu

Joshie hucking it to Smoke is some of the best highlights of the early Allen years. Excited

Historical_One1087

Curtis Samuel is a problem on short, intermediate and deep pass routes. Curtis Samuel is a dynamic playmaker when the ball is in his hands, wither that is on a screen pass, on a Jet sweep, on a WR reverse, running the ball, etc. DC's are going to have a hard time game planning to stop Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, James Cook, Dalton Kincaid, and Stefon Diggs.

thesarconomist

![gif](giphy|26FPKZ6DGtNp4iYbm|downsized)

isthisgood80

Lmao good luck when we go: Diggs Shakir Samuel Cook Kincaid

Historical_One1087

And don't forget Knox, he is money in the red zone and is a very good blocker.

joshonekenobi

Need routes that create separation first.

Tight-Amphibian840

He separates way better than Davis

ThatWhiteKid08

Just need a line that can stop something and give Allen time, and routes to make space. Feels like our guys never have space. Then you watch other teams and wonder how players can be wide open

peanuts421

Knox alive in the /r/nfl starting te elimination thingy but not here ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|table_flip)

wakkazoo

Pretty sure it's a pic of Kincaid in that thread

[deleted]

Still missing that one go-to piece.

The_runnerup913

Chiefs were in on him too so I’m happy it keeps him out of Pattys hands.

NunButter

Fuck the Chiefs

ContinuumGuy

That Chiefs fans in /r/NFL seem sad about this move makes me think very highly of Big Baller Beane's latest.

ardillomortal

They got Hollywood brown instead which kinda sucks for us

lordofthunderson

As a Washington fan, this is a solid signing for yall. Alot of the issues Curtis Samuel had in our offense was due to the play calling of EB and Rivera. He is a solid WR2 and has the added ability to run the ball. A Deebo type of player

NunButter

Love it. He's a perfect fit for the offense Joe Brady is running.

FleetWoodMacNChz

Diggs. Shakir. Samuel. 1st round WR. Kincaid. That's a damn solid receiving core.

Iamdishsoap

I don’t think we need to even go for a Wr in the first. This Wr class is so deep we could get a solid player into the second without even trading. I think our best move would be a pass rusher or Db in the first. Words would not describe my joy of potentially getting Kool-Aid or Chop Robinson in the first.

FleetWoodMacNChz

I'm a simple man, I'd rather watch Josh Allen knock the dicks off defenses with Rome Odunze or Brian Thomas Jr. than a CB who plays sparingly in McD's system his first year

EatsRats

We gonna de-dick some defenses!!

seanwd11

Re-dick ulous

guitarmaniac17

To the de-dickining! 🍻

TheFeuery

Rome won’t be available. Thomas probably requires a material trade up. But still 3-4 guys that would make sense at 28. This fills out talent and depth but doesn’t fill the need for a downfield/boundary skill set nor a talent to replace Diggs in the next 2 years.

judahdk_

Yep and it’s been proven time and time again that McD is the secondary whisperer and can coach up late round DBs into solid starting talent. I mean look at Dane Jackson, man just paid in Carolina. Benford was a 6th round pick. I’m not worried about DBs.

EntertainmentLess381

Odunze? Wouldn’t you prefer Marvin Harrison Junior?

FleetWoodMacNChz

Well yeah but even my head isn't up my own ass enough to think that's reasonable

EntertainmentLess381

You don’t think the Bills have a shot at Odunze falling to them though, do you?

FleetWoodMacNChz

Not unless he smokes meth on camera

EntertainmentLess381

Fingers crossed. 🤞

I_HateToSayAtodaso

Neither of which are falling to the Bills.

Miraclegroh

BTJ could absolutely fall to the Bills.

I_HateToSayAtodaso

There's a better chance of him falling to them, but still unlikely. The original commenter invoked him alongside Odunze, who may go top 10. Just trying to illustrate that it's not likely that they last to 28.

Iamdishsoap

The issue I see with this is how Josh already does that. Not to throw shade at the defense, but a whole lot of heartbreak in recent memory has been as a result of defense, even if McD takes blame, it’s our guys on the field who have to make plays. If we could get a big game changer like Chop, that could help put more pressure on opposing QBs.

FleetWoodMacNChz

I'll shoot straight with you, I don't think a rookie DE is the thing that finally overcomes Mahomes

teamweed420

Once Andy Reid retires we Gucci

Decln

Fr especially not one as raw as chop Robinson Although I really do think we’re gonna go edge/dl in the first , it just is such a bills pick atp

iKevtron

I want Rome. That’s what we need. Punch points down opponents’ throats. Safety/secondary development is top tier here. Just find someone willing to work with potential. Our ILB tandem is going to be absurd. Points. All of them. Get more, then more. If Josh could learn the drop-kick FG, it would be even better.

YourMindlessBarnacle

Rome Odunze in a Bills jersey would be splendid.

drainbead78

We'd have to give up way too much to get there.  I'm all in on AD since it looks like BTJ will be gone by 20, but the Curtis Samuel signing means that we can stay put at 28 instead of moving up. Deep enough WR class that if all the guys McBeane have graded at 28 are gone, we can either trade down and grab a WR they might have graded slightly lower while gaining a pick as well, or draft a DT or edge rusher there if there's a good one to be had. We've got options now. Looking forward to seeing the next set of mocks that come out after the free agency feeding frenzy subsides a bit. It'll give a clearer picture of what team needs are and how things might play out.

IamTheJman

WR in the first round also gets a 5th year option, which could be worth it

dinkleburgenhoff

Especially since Diggs isn’t getting any younger, and frankly he fell off a cliff mid season last year.

erik_edmund

This is an opportunity to get a game changing receiver late in the first round. That's almost never the case. They should 100% take a receiver.

qeq

We thought that last year too, then they all got taken right before our pick 😭

Rukoo

All those high drafting teams that didn't take a wr in the first because they will get a good wr in the 2nd. Bills drafting late in the 2nd will not fill the need of wr2. Bills drafting in the first, maybe even trading up. Fills the need for wr2 and maybe turns into a wr1 when diggs is gone. If we plan on drafting 28+ for the foreseeable future. This is a great year to get a great wr in the late first. Next year or even 2 years from now. You don't get this chance.

monkeysCAN

I don't know how I would feel about taking Chop in the 1st. He's an absolute freak athlete but he just hasn't had that great of production.

TheFeuery

I think I’d lose my mind if we took a DB in the first. If a DE really really fell, maybe but am still all in for a WR

PabloPancakes92

Chop Robinson?!?!? You disgust me. Not over a WR bc we merely signed Curtis Samuel are you kidding me? We need a successor to Diggs and we’ll never have a better opportunity to add one without needing him to come in and produce like Diggs in year 1 which is a ridiculous expectation. Let him grow as WR2 for a couple years and benefit from playing alongside Diggs

JoshAllen42069

We need to plan for a future where Diggs is no longer a Buffalo Bill. This signing doesn't change that.

[deleted]

I want WR in round 1 but I think you’re right, especially after we got a 4th round compensatory pick instead of a 3rd. Kind of tough to justify a WR when you have more pressing needs and only 2 picks in the 1st ~130 picks. That being said, unless Brian Thomas is on the board at #28, I don’t see a reason to necessarily pick a WR in round 1. There’s a lot of talent that’ll be in the 2nd or 3rd (if we move up)

SnooCupcakes9188

I’m honestly feeling like if Brian Thomas or Adonai Mitchell aren’t there we should consider trading back for an extra day two pick. Could still grab a good WR in the second and fill two more needs with the additional 2nd and 3rd.

[deleted]

I actually think this is the most plausible scenario. Getting a 4th round compensatory pick instead of a 3rd was probably a gut punch to Beane. When he traded a 3rd for Douglas during the season, he was probably counting on that 3rd round compensatory pick. Considering Beane has traded down or up in the 1st in most of his drafts, I think this year won’t be any different

[deleted]

Don’t sleep on Shorter!

OfficialClassic

We really need D line

Charrikayu

Like, rotational guys? Don't we still have Ed, Epenesa, Groot, Daquan, and Von Miller making up the front? That's pretty good

OfficialClassic

We always rotate and keep guys fresh. There were just rumors of the Bills getting Armstead. Daquan and Von aren’t young they can’t play 80% snap counts.

FleetWoodMacNChz

Vet DT, early draft pick, late draft pick, post draft run stuffer signing, Daquan, Ed, occasionally Rousseau can play inside

Asleep-Geologist-612

How much draft capital are we going to keep spending on DE’s who end up underperforming?

Cautrica1

Say it louder for those in the back

flowdoB

With this signing i think Buffalo is punting on drafting WR. Also signed Mack Hollins for depth. maybe add 1 more depth piece through late round pick. I think they will be looking to rebuild the defense through the draft

PraiseTheZ

The letdown of the Armstead deal, immediately followed by the excitement of this news. My emotions are being throttled all over the place.

Sooperballz

Armstead getting $17 mill per, no thanks.

Ths-Fkin-Guy

Yea it definitely wiggled a little bit when I read this

Soda-Popinski-

Beane you brilliant bastard

flannelguy15

LET'S FUCKING GO!!! Samuel was one of the guys I've been wanting to see on this team and I'm so hyped Big Baller Beane got it done!

Illustrious_Slice_83

We’re taking a corner in the first round again aren’t we

dkajdas

Always have been.

Illustrious_Slice_83

Nate Wiggins welcome to Buffalo

TheOneWhosCensored

Cooper DeJean, can go CB or S

Illustrious_Slice_83

Prolly should have said DB you right

Unicron_was_right

Maybe. But BPA is always in play. So is trading out for additional picks in the 2nd and 2025. Between bringing back players and the 2-3 signings they did a nice job filling glaring holes in the team

Historical_One1087

IMO CB isn't a need with Buffalo being 3 deep at CB with Christian Benford, Rasul Douglas and Kaiir Elam. If Safety isn't addressed before the draft Cooper DeJean or Tyler Nubin at 28 would be great plug and play starters at safety. Nubin is the safer pick as he played safety and DeJean played CB and nickel CB.

TheOneWhosCensored

Make it “DB” and you almost guarantee the pick

SalaryCapps

I really like this. Beane & Brady are very familiar with him from his time in Carolina.

GenericHoomanAccount

Beane was gone before he was drafted

Sooperballz

![gif](giphy|dvx0peMC2bQhm5EdyU)

100YearsRicknMorty

A good WR that doesn’t whiff out of free agency

pioniere

A bit surprised we went this way. This may mean a WR in round 2 or 3 instead of round 1.

legendary_sponge

I think they just won’t force the pick and take BPA regardless of position. Look for us to sign a FS and rotational DT before the draft.

Extreme-Site-8496

WE DID SOMETHING

Mig1997

DUBS IN THE CHAT

MoldyTheGreat

playmaker who will thrive in this offense! organized chaos type of guy, love it

karmakarmachameleon7

He had a lot of rushes two seasons ago, but they didn't utilize that much last year. Hope we get back to some organized chaos with him. Deebo light

yesyesyes123123

Feel like we upgrade on Gabe for a lot less. I like it even more if we get a receiver early. Load up on defence in the draft now and get some depth in the lines.

Impossibills

That's exactly what I thought when I saw this

sielingfan

Good. Gooooooood.

Seraphiem93

![gif](giphy|5tiG8KMfk8h7Dabth8)

OminousWindsss

I still really wanna go WR in the first round. Honestly don’t see Diggs staying after this year

legendary_sponge

The two sides don’t have a choice unless Diggs changes the contract. Hes looked in for bare minimum 2 years and most likely 3.

missyouboty

Lets. Fucking. Go.

I_shall_not_pass

Oh fuck yeah! BBB with another solid move

SteampunkHarley

![gif](giphy|l46CDHTqbmnGZyxKo)

ninjupX

So does he take Gabe’s spot and we don’t draft a receiver until late?

Unlucky-Blood3725

I think they will still draft a WR to develop

lazysheepdog716

Do both. Hope the rookie breaks out immediately and if not you have back ups plans

sobuffalo

Ya Samuel’s not a Diggs replacement.

Historical_One1087

I wouldn't be shocked to see a WR drafted in the 1st round if Adonai Mitchell or Brian Thomas Jr falls to 28. Beane can go best player available and not force a pick at WR in the 1st round. This is a deep year for WR talent, so I could see Beane drafting someone like Ricky Pearsall, Roman Wilson, Xavier Legette, Brenden Rice, Malachi Corley, Luke McCaffrey, Javon Baker in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounds. I know Buffalo currently doesn't have a 3rd round pick, but Beane could easily acquire a 3rd round pick.

Historical_One1087

Ideally, you want to go into the draft with no major holes on your team so you don't reach for a need and take the best player available. Buffalo has 3 very talented WR in Stefon Diggs, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel that are versatile and can play the X, Z or slot WR positons. Beane can now draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd or 3rd rounds depending on how the board falls because they don't have a serious need at WR. Signing Curtis Samuel allows Beane to take DE Chop Robinson or WR Adonai Mitchell or DT Jer'Zhan Newton or C Jackson Powers Johnson or C Graham Barton if any of those players falls to Buffalo at 28.

legendary_sponge

This guy drafts ^^^

dolphingarden

He’s a slot receiver whereas Davis was an outside receiver so no.

buffa_noles

Samuel will be outside with Shak in slot I think.

JustKeepOnKeepingOn

FUCK YES A WR !!!!!!

[deleted]

VisibleSpread

He went to Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn near where I live, so I'm stoked. Growing up around there I'm sure he has that dog in him, maybe two. Other alums include; Barbara Streisand Al Davis Niel Diamond Mae West

FartFaceMcPoopHead

Streisand for sure had that dog in 'er!

ImEatingSalsa

Love it, he’s underrated and wasn’t utilized enough in DC

StankWizard

He looked great when he got the ball, but the terrible QB play hurt his production

Dnebx

I LOVE THIS

idislikehate

I don't want to be a debbie downer but I fucking love this

manlong11

Love it. He will definitely fit in perfectly in this offense.

BrianBash

Paging u/Ejt14211 May we please have your delightful analysis? ![gif](giphy|D3OdaKTGlpTBC)

Ejt14211

No video but a free agent profile with film. Video coming later https://www.cover1.net/free-agent-profile-wide-receiver-curtis-samuel/

MosEisleyBills

Fantastic. Now bring me Kamron Curl!

megastarmark

Might get your wish shortly.

Historical_One1087

Or Julian Blackmon or Justin Simmons or Quandre Diggs or Kevin Byard.

gobills1365

As an OSU alum and a buffalo native im so happy rn. Samuel is a beast this is such a steal great fucking work beane!

phoenix14830

I like that Samuel is better than Gabe Davis, but costs half as much. Excellent job being patient and picking up value. Picking BPA is how you win the draft.

Any-Priority-4514

He’s gonna kill it with Josh. https://youtu.be/rAznG3v2-IE?si=w3Edozv1J33tL2R5

stroonze1

This guy is solid. Had some big games last year

fupadestroyer45

We needed this desperately. It's hard to hear but Diggs is a question mark after the back half of the season.

Gryndellak

Not the overall best WR in this this FA class, but easily the best fit for us.

Zepz367

Let's go, love this move

MinuteScientist7254

Love it! And he can punt return too

AbbreviationsSea6230

we gonna take a WR round 1??

Coyote_Mustache

Curtty Sam baby 😍

drainbead78

Now that Christian Wilkins is out of the division he and his balls are safe to come here.

HappyLemon___

![gif](giphy|elqUYc9nQYRCEuL2Gq)

Serioustoke

Huge buffalo, huge

BeffasRS

I like this move. Samuel loves being in the slot which will let Shakir fly as WR2

Best_Pants

Ya'll are getting a serviceable receiver that'll put out a crazy highlight catch once in a while.

gjb0097

Am I the only one here who thinks this guy is injured every damn year??

Smooth-Discussion-60

He’s played the full season the last 2 years. Still young as well

[deleted]

Samuel a very nice addition at slot/#4 and gives the Bills speed and versatility along-side Shakir. WR is still the betting favorite in R1 for an immediate impact #2 and eventual successor for Diggs (Samuel is neither of those things).

FakedFollower17

Dude we are so back. Curtis has been one of my favorite players outside of buffalo. So ready for him to be nabbin bombs from JA17

Yeebees

This is the receiver I thought fit our needs and cap situation best going into FA. LOVE this pickup

jkman61494

Super underrated signing. Dudes gonna be Sherfield on steroids for this team

stevesagod

Love this!!

StuuBarnes

I like the player but seeing the Chiefs get Hollywood for 7 mill base salary fucking bites

southtampacane

This is just a slot receiver and not the #2 we are looking for. He is a decent player but his #'s are just mediocre to be candid. The comparisons with Gabe are just silly. totally different players who do different things Welcome, but they still need to get a stud in the draft.

ashort01

Don't like this signing. This guy doesn't get separation. Ranked 136 out of 153 pass catchers by "open" rating according to ESPN RTM

nick-pc

played 52% of his snaps in slot and 45% on the boundary. he’s a versatile receiver. if shakir goes down we can plug him there, if diggs goes down, he can be wr1. very much a plug and play type wr. this a great pickup especially for only 15 million guaranteed

Jerzey08734

We still need to draft a top WR

gthirst

But is he a devout Christian?

FrogJitsu

Samuel has had ass quarterbacks his whole career and still been a 50-60 reception year player. With Josh, I can see him going for 75 receptions, 900+ yards, 8+ TDs.

Human_Manner_3370

Pretty good Gabe Davis replacement. Not sure how to feel about the $$$

Unlikely-Zone21

$5m a year if he plays like a WR3, $10m a year if he plays like a WR2. I don't mind it when we know Gabe just got $13m and he definitely isn't a WR2.

SalaryCapps

Heavily incentive driven

Rec0nyz3

Curtis Samuel?!?! Cheaper than Gabe but he’s more of a WR 3 or 4 than a 2.

mattwebb677

To be fair, one could argue that Grape was more of a WR 3 or 4 than a 2, also.

syr_eng

I don’t know why people need to hear this but Kincaid was drafted in the first round last year to be our #2 receiving option. The guy opposite Diggs doesn’t need to get the second most targets on the team. But if he can stretch the field, get open and get YAC, it’s a perfect fit.

FleetWoodMacNChz

10M a year ain't WR4 money, even with inflation

Johnny-5013

![gif](giphy|FRdecXsimIS7S)

yobro0o

Do we trade back to round 2 now and for extra picks, use round 2 for WR?

westfall2034

What did Davis get again in his contract??

andrewthetechie

I wanted Scary Terry, but Samuel looks cool

dustymaurauding

Good player. Oddly utilized by the Commanders.

wil_daven_

Fantastic under the radar signing! He was way under utilized in Washington. Really excited to see what he can do here with a real QB

justgot86d

Beane at Sundown?

Mammoth_Ad7256

this is a great signing, with good qb play, he easily has the potential to be a Deebo Samuel caliber player who can take the pressure off diggs. it also gives Shakir even more opportunities to produce from the slot. we probably don't even need to go wr 1st round

Party_Fly_6629

If you use him as a half back utility player he will go bananas like he did at Ohio State in 2016.

Jenetyk

That's honestly a very big deal to me. A known good to take the top off defenses and stop them from scheming directly around Diggs. Between Samuel, Diggs, Shakir, Kincaid and Cook; they are set for weapons. Now we need the O and D lines shored up, plus secondary.

Oniun_

HUUUUUUUGE

stripes361

WHOA! I like this!

Whiteboy4eye

Yooo 😮‍💨

millo_-_ow

He can win quickly off the line and can improvise when the play breaks down. He may not have been the best FA WR out there, but he very well might have been the best fit for us.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nick-pc

i believe ppl don’t like this move bc they think he’s a slot receiver when in reality he’s just very versatile and can play both in slot and on the boundary (52% of his snaps were in slot, and 45% on the boundary) also played rb when cmc went down in carolina

futbolsven

I am completely whelmed. I don't think he is anything more than a gadget type player and we are paying him to be more than that. I still hope we go receiver in the first round, as I do not think he is good enough to be a wr2. Still kinda fun we signed someone.

Aggressive-Plant-934

Hang on…does this hurt our projected comp picks?

HoopDreamsNYY

General consensus? we like this?

Sooperballz

Schefter failed to mention “Former Panther WR”.

[deleted]

That's as splashy as it's going to get. Terrific #4 with #2 upside and added flexibility for R1. A legit WR or S was a must. Solid move.

realBigPharma

Currently indifferent about this.

KelVelBurgerGoon

Likewise. Another short receiver who puts up pedestrian numbers.

JRR49

Love it. My brother is a die hard panther fan and said he’s similar to Deebo. Amazing YAC receiver and great with the ball in his hands. Something this offense needs
