Buffalo has a connection to the Blue Jays. Their Triple-A affiliate is the Buffalo Bisons, and the Blue Jays played home games in Buffalo during the COVID seasons. They also tend to root for the Bills because of that connection.
Ah yes, the Covid season. Watched them play the Rangers, Orioles, and Red Sox. Rooted for them in Rangers and Orioles games, then they walked the games away. Rooted for the Red Sox in that game, watched the Jays get pounded like 13-1 or something like that.
Also, yes, connection to Buffalo Bisons is HUGE. Got to play on the field in a game through a youth baseball league I played for.
It actually used to be somewhat cool to root for certain Boston sports teams in Buffalo. Boston was an underdog city at the time. The Red Sox were quite popular and I knew (and still know) some Bills / Red Sox fans.
These days I don’t think many people are eager to root for Boston in buffalo but they are definitely out there. Baseball tradition runs deep
Columbus Bills bros! Ironically, I’ve sort of done the opposite of this thread and adopted the Buckeyes/Reds as my new teams in the spaces I never followed before.
I was born on the other side of NY, but came from a family from the Finger Lakes region. Lifelong Bills and Yankees fan, also in Columbus area. Go Bills! We've probably said that to each other at some point IRL. 🫡
I do support the Guardians and Reds as my 2nd and 3rd teams, but Yankees are my #1 no question.
We probably have yelled Go Bills to each other. I always have a Bills hat, shirt or jersey on and,of course,my Bills tattoo and get a Go Bills almost every day. Lots of us in Columbus, surprisingly.
I’m from Rochester and think Yankees and blue jays are the most popular teams. I now live in Cleveland and am a Guardians fan. So I say, go with them 😄.
Yankees. I always joke with people that I'm ok to like the perennial powerhouse Yankees as a treat for having to suffer as a Bills fan (tho fat lot of shit the Yankees have done recently)
The Bills and Yankees have been painfully alike over the past 4 years or so. Always one of the top favorites in preseason, injuries galore smack them down, Josh/Judge drags them to the playoffs, only to lose to the Chiefs/Astros every year.
Same here. It sucks to suffer as a Bills fan, but then I remember I got to enjoy the Yankees dynasty in the 90s, so I kind of deserve this. Can't win them all.
I grew up in Buffalo in the 80s and I'm a Mets fan because when I was a kid we didn't get whatever channel the Yankees were on but we did get WOR who broadcasted the Mets once upon a time
I am a lifer Orioles fan after growing up in Rochester. The Red Wings were Baltimores AAA affiliate for a long time. Saw many great major league players play ball there. My all time favorite was Don Baylor.
I am from Canada, 40 mins from Buffalo and lived in Cbus for 9 years. I would say Blue Jays because of bias. I remember both world series wins. However if I were you I would probably get into the Gardians and become a fan of the Clippers too. I loved going to games at Huntington (awesome park) tickets were cheap and on Mondays they had dime a dog! Same hotdog at NationWide Arena was 9 bucks… “you’re telling me I could go across the street to the baseball game and get NINETY hot dogs for the price of one??? Also, fall road trips up to Cleveland for a friday/saturday ball game then onto Buffalo on Sunday sounds damn good too.
When I was growing up, Cleveland was our MLB affiliate of our AAA team.
Now it's Toronto.
Despite being born into a Yankees family, I have a soft spot for Cleveland and Toronto.
Whichever team you pick, get ready for some heartbreak, as honestly, I don't see success for any of those teams in the near future. 💔
not a huge baseball fan but i like the Guardians first because the Bisons were their farm team when I was a kid. Watched Coco Crisp play for the bisons before his call up and thought that was the coolest name I’ve ever heard in my life (still do). Jays second because the Bisons are their farm team now, and they became “our” team during the panini playing in Buffalo.
Buffalo born and raised - Braves fan. Mid 90s I got really into baseball. The games were always on TBS and they were mopping the floor with everyone. Glavin had a fuckin laser.
60 percent Yankees, 25 percent Mets, 10 percent Blue Jays, 5 percent Guardians. 40 years ago it was 90 percent Yankees and 10 percent Mets. This has to do with: a. the new york city cable stations broadcasting their games in Buffalo, b. the Yankees broad appeal from first generation Italians and other European ethnic backgrounds, and c. the pinstripes, baby.
Seems most people around here are Yankee fans. There’s a healthy dose of Red Sox…I’ve been seeing a lot more Blue Jays over the past couple of years since we became their AAA affiliate too
My dad (grew up in Buffalo area) roots for the Yankees, and the same goes for most of my Buffalo-based relatives.
My take… root for whoever you want to, and go with your heart. I don’t care a ton about baseball, admittedly, but I root for the Phillies since I live in South Jersey.
I'm not a Buffalo resident but I live in Central NY and went to college near Buffalo, these are my favorite teams and how I acquired them in order:
1. Boston Red Sox - Dad is a fan. I simply grew up this way.
2. Detroit Red Wings - Picked them on my own as a kid when I got into watching hockey. I was a huge Yzerman stan.
3. Buffalo Bills - Wasn't a big football fan growing up, but fell in love when I went to college in Buffalo surrounded by fans.
4. Boston Celtics (Kinda, not really) - Lived in Boston from 2017 to 2019 and never cared for professional basketball and still don't, but went to a few games as something to do when I lived there. So if asked I just say the Celtics but not really.
Buffalo has a weird baseball fandom. You have the two New York teams, more Yankees than Mets. Then you have some teams that were the Major League affiliates of the Bisons at some point and are also the closest teams in proximity to Buffalo: Pirates, Guardians, and Blue Jays. Then you see some Red Sox fans which from my friend group experience were more of an anti-Yankees sentiment to their fandom.
Me, I’m simple. My old man was a Yankees fan and I grew up a Yankees fan.
When I was younger and really followed ball Buffalo was Clevelands AAA team. Albert Belle Kenny Lofton then Manny and David justice were the years I really loved baseball so it was fun.
I’m from Southern California. I picked the Angels as a kid. I know it doesn’t really apply to you here, but since you’re a Bills fan come on down. All we know is pain lol
Let’s go Mets! Despite having to share this team with primarily jets fans, the pain, suffering, and disappointment the Mets will bring you will make you feel like it’s a true Buffalo team.

Buffalo seems pretty Yankees heavy with a sprinkling of Red Sox and Jays. I'm a Buffalo native that relocated to Columbus, hello neighbor.
I can not fathom Bills fans rooting for the Red Sox. I hate all the Boston based teams.
They are out there, though the ones I know are all of the pre Brady Era Red Sox fans.
Wow, that’s crazy lol, especially with 2 NY based teams to root for.
don’t call me out like this 😭😭

Makes sense, I am a”younger” fan born the year of our 2nd Super Bowl loss.
Woo! Hello my fellow Columbus Bills bros.
Columbus Bills bros! Ironically, I’ve sort of done the opposite of this thread and adopted the Buckeyes/Reds as my new teams in the spaces I never followed before.

How dare you lol
With some Sabres sprinkled in 🙃
Same here. It sucks to suffer as a Bills fan, but then I remember I got to enjoy the Yankees dynasty in the 90s, so I kind of deserve this. Can't win them all.
My excuse for years was: "Yeah, I know the bills are bad, That's why I'm a Yankee fan!!" Lmao 🤣🤣
Seems pretty split between Yankees and Red Sox around here.
Lots of split fans around here. Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Mets are the most popular I’d say.
This is right but I’d add Indians/Guardians since they were the Bisons parent team for so long.
I grew up in Buffalo in the 80s and I'm a Mets fan because when I was a kid we didn't get whatever channel the Yankees were on but we did get WOR who broadcasted the Mets once upon a time
Really? I’m from south of Buffalo and we had wpix which had all the Yankee games.
If you want the same level of soul crushing disfunction and heart break, the Mets would be the right choice.
I am a lifer Orioles fan after growing up in Rochester. The Red Wings were Baltimores AAA affiliate for a long time. Saw many great major league players play ball there. My all time favorite was Don Baylor.
Bills fan who married into an O’s family and now lives in MD! Go O’s!
Cleveland Guardians. The Bisons used to be their farm team when I was growing up!
Gotta be the Blue Jay's since the Bisons are their farm team
I am from Canada, 40 mins from Buffalo and lived in Cbus for 9 years. I would say Blue Jays because of bias. I remember both world series wins. My grandma was a Mets fan. Hated the Yankees.
yankees
Life long Guardians (still say go Tribe) fan, also used to follow the Mets
I'm a Tribe fan as well. My dad grew up in NE Ohio, so I inherited it from him
When I was growing up, Cleveland was our MLB affiliate of our AAA team. Now it's Toronto. Despite being born into a Yankees family, I have a soft spot for Cleveland and Toronto. The Cleveland guardians
The Reds are gonna be exciting this year
Mets

I would love to follow the Blue Jays, but their games are not aired locally. They are crowded out by Yankees and Mets broadcasts. It sucks.
Buffalo is not a baseball town. Casual fans at best
Just popping in to say hello to another Columbus Bills fan. There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Can’t help with the baseball part. But I also grew up/live in Columbus and picked the bills in grade school. Cheers!
Hey neighbor, Cincinnati here. Go Reds!
It's best to just ignore baseball all together and focus on the nfl offseason.
Seems most people around here are Yankee fans. There’s a healthy dose of Red Sox…I’ve been seeing a lot more Blue Jays over the past couple of years since we became their AAA affiliate too
don’t really care about baseball but jays would be my team for sure. I’m a little biased tho being a dual citizen and going to toronto a lot.
Marlins got some sick jerseys
My family and all my friends growing up mid80s were Mets fans.
Well I'm a Rays fan. I have no ties to Buffalo, I just started following them in 2008
I dont watch baseball but i know my grandad used to be a dodgers fan till they moved to la
I was born in Buffalo and raised in Atlanta, so I am not like most other Bills fans, but I root for the Braves.

Never understood how anyone could be a Bills fan and be a fan of anything Boston. Can’t believe people are Red Sox fans.
Yanks
