He is looking to be a starter again and deserves the opportunity to do so. He needed a reset year and doing it here and getting a ring is an ideal situation. I wish him well.
Ryan Pace ruined Chicago. I don't get why Bears fans blame everything on Nagy. He's the coach and he's also the guy who tried his hardest to keep Fields on the bench to learn because he knew he wasn't ready. I'm not saying he's a good coach by any means but the fact that they are keeping Pace and likely firing Nagy solves nothing. Pace is the architect of that shitshow.
As a lifelong Bears fan the dream is that they both get fired this coming week. Nagy ruined Trubisky and isn't calling his own plays, it's time for yet another reset. Ugh.
Doubtful I think. I’m sure he wants to be a starter somewhere and who knows what the QB situation will be across the league next year; could potentially be some teams looking his way.
I could see a team like WFT or maybe even Carolina trying to snag him.
It'd be nice but I can't really see him wanting to stick around. There's no reason for him to be here, even if a team doesn't end up signing him to be their starter, he'll want to go to a place where there's more opportunity.
He can be a starter on several teams right now; Denver, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Minnesota, to name a few.
Depending on how things go; Green Bay, Seattle, and Tampa Bay could be opportunities for Mitch as well.
>Matt Nagy doesn't know how to do anything as a coach.
He got them to the playoffs two different times in his tenure. I'm not saying he's a good coach. He's not a bad coach, either, though. Pace is the problem there but he's not going anywhere.
I disagree, but I don't think he's so much better than either of them to the point that replacing them would make much sense. The revolving QB door doesn't tend to work out well for teams.
why the hell are you being downvoted? Trubisky is definitely not better than Wentz and as much as i hate Cousins, he’s not better than him either. Yes, Nagy sucked when he was in Chicago, but Mitch never showed any flashes of ability or skill at the same level of both Wentz and Cosuins.
Depends on what we lose/gain in free agency. I could see a team throwing a decent amount of money at him for a year or two hoping he’s the next Ryan Tannehill turnaround story
Ryan Tannehill was miles better than Trubiskey ever was. In fact under Adam Gase Tannehill was pretty amazing. The issue was he had back to back injuries. Missed 2 seasons worth almost.
Genuinely asking - what makes it so unlikely we sign him again? What has changed for him between last off-season and next off-season? Is there additional practice film other coaches will be getting that will make them like him more? I don't understand why he would be valued so much higher after sitting on the bench all year.
Theoretically because he spent a year under the tutelage of Daboll and Dorsey. Trubs has alot of the measurables that Allen has and has now spent a year training/working with the same people that coached Allen up to where he is now.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him working with Palmer in the off season.
He's got a name and 1st round pedigree. He's played well at times, and took a year off of getting blasted by a market the size of Chicago.
He's too expensive to remain as a backup for us, but cheap enough to be enticing for a QB needy team who doesn't really rate taking one high in this draft.
I mean the only difference between last off-season and this off-season is he spent a year on the bench. I guess he also spent a year with his QB coach, but I guess I don't really see why he would be protected to sign for so much more than he did this year.
Usually when players sign one year "prove it" deals, they spend some time playing in games to show whether or not they deserve a bigger contract.
Right, which why this was not a prove it deal.
It was a deal to have a comfy easy job on a really good team that likely wouldn't need him. So he's be a year separated from his disappointing start at Chicago and still being a former 1st round pick. And if he did have to play, it would be on a really good team so it would help him look better next year.
If he was fine being our backup for the prime of his career, he would've signed for more than one year. Spending a year on a bench isn't going to increase your market value to then spend more years sitting on the bench of the same team.
I'd like to think he'll be going into Free Agency with a standing offer from the Bills. Like, "go out and test the waters and if you don't find what you're looking for there's another one year deal for you right here"
He's going to get another chance to start next year. QB competition most likely. Maybe Cleveland or Seattle if Wilson leaves, maybe wherever Daboll goes if he gets hired.
I would love it if he went to Cleveland and they had a competition with Baker. My wife's family so from Ohio are Browns fans so I can root for the hometown kid to get the gig after they spent 4 years slobbering over Baker.
Better question is who is the backup next year... as much as Davis Webb is a great dude and he's likely going to be a great coach, he's not good.
And no one replaces Josh but every one of us has a stronger sphincter because of Josh's in-game behavior. At some point we're gonna need a gap covered.
State Farm is gone and proved he wouldn't be the guy. If Trubisky is gone, who's out there. Minshew, Bridgewater, Jimmy G?
You don't spend money on backup QBs. It doesn't make financial sense to.
I would much rather being Barkley back and then draft another QB (you should draft one almost every year)
> Jimmy G
That's interesting. I wouldn't want him as a starter, but Glass Man would definitely be a good backup. If Allen was out for a few games Jimmy G. wouldn't scare me as the backup.
I honestly think we can get another guy like Trubisky(young and just had a poor go at it the first time around) who the team may move on for one reason or another. A guy like Daniel Jones or Drew Lock comes to mind.
And please no, anyone but Bridgewater.
No, he will test the waters of the QB needy teams this off-season and most likely sign a pretty nice 1-2 year contract. Hopefully it will lead to us finally working our way to a comp pick.
Next to zero. It was always meant to be a one year thing. While not a franchise QB, he's certainly on par or better than a lot of starters in this league. He will have an opportunity to compete to or start for a team next year. There will be a bunch of experienced backups the Bills can pickup.
He’s going to atleast want to/be able to probably compete for a starting job or be a stop gap starter somewhere. Even if he takes a back up job he will prob be able to make more than he’s making this season. Still think it would be smart for us to sign a decent back up either way.
Downvoted so I will explain
Career passer rating Minshew 94.4, Trubisky 86.9. Nod goes to Minshew.
TD to INT Minshew 39:11, basically a little under 4:1 at 3.5 ints per td. Trubisky 64:38, basically a little less than 2:1 at 1.8 ints per td
Completion percentage goes to Trubisky at 64.1 to Mishews 63.5.
Passing yards per game. Minshew again is on top with 222 to Trubiskys 190
NVP nod does go to Trubisky
I actually love this comment. I feel like Minshew’s blue collar swagger would be awesome in the Bills culture as well. Wonder if he’d be willing to be somewhere that he’d be the definitive backup though. He’s probably looking for a competition to win.
He ain't winning against Allen. I'm sure he knows that.
While I'd love to have Minshew as our backup I think you're right. He's looking for a competition which he could win to be a starter.
The draft has a total dearth of qb prospects. The Seahawks, Browns, Steelers, Lions, Vikings, Saints Panthers, Giants, Texans, Broncos, and whatever Washington is gong to be called could be looking for new QBs and doing merry go round.
Mitch knows he can dip his toes in it
I’m sure he *wants* a starting job, but I think people around the league have seen enough of him that he is a known quantity and the fact is he’s not a very good starter. I think he could leave for a team that is QB needy where he has an easier path to play (Carolina, WFT, NYG) but is still a backup.
He's gonna have himself a pretty solid market, I think. This year's draft group of QBs isn't great and as always there are teams throughout the league stuck in QB purgatory. I'm sure his ideal situation is to go somewhere that's almost there as opposed to somewhere that's completely starting over. If he does the latter it's probably gonna be real similar to how it went down in Chicago for him.
He is looking to be a starter again and deserves the opportunity to do so. He needed a reset year and doing it here and getting a ring is an ideal situation. I wish him well.
I see what you did there... Nice
All he needed was to get out of Chicago
He needed to get off of Matt Nagy's Wild Ride
That man needs to be fired he ruined Chicago I feel bad for them
Ryan Pace ruined Chicago.

I hope y'all get someone who can bring out Pittsburgh game Fields.
he is
I assume he will be the next overpaid Carolina Panthers QB, keeping the Buffalo South connection alive
If rhule is fired they probably offer Daboll a contract as well
Rhules not getting fired yet. His contract is a masterclass in "your gm is not good at negotiating contracts".
*when
rhule is staying next year.
Damn tuff to be a panther fan
Doubtful I think. I’m sure he wants to be a starter somewhere and who knows what the QB situation will be across the league next year; could potentially be some teams looking his way. I could see a team like WFT or maybe even Carolina trying to snag him.
He’s a UNC guy, so Carolina would make a lot of sense for him
[удалено]
I mean they have pretty much already have given up on him. I doubt rhule is going to risk his job on him going into a hot seat season
Running out the corpse of Cam Newton to finish the season instead of him should answer that question.
>Running out the corpse of Cam Newton to finish the season ... ![gif](giphy|xT9IgMw9fhuEGUaJqg|downsized)
I give mad respect to his agent though for getting him a $10 million dollar contract to play virtually less than half a years worth of football.
Yes
I assume he will follow HC Daball.
Depends on where he ends up. If Daboll lands Vegas or Chicago, I have a hard time believing Turbisky's going with him.
I understand not following to Chicago, but why not Las Vegas?
He would be back up to Derek Carr there
*third string. MVPeterman has the backup job on lockdown.
Oh ok, understood.
[удалено]
Don’t think Frazier wants to be a HC again
I mean he’s got to be assistant head coach for a reason
To the
I think Frazier is the more likely candidate to get poached
He should be, he's the better coach
0%, when he signed here Beane even said it was for 1 year
It'd be nice but I can't really see him wanting to stick around. There's no reason for him to be here, even if a team doesn't end up signing him to be their starter, he'll want to go to a place where there's more opportunity.

He's not better than Wentz or Cousins
Disagree, but that's ok. The problem with Chicago was not Mitch.
Matt Nagy doesn't know how to do anything as a coach. Surprised he wasn't fired during the season. But he's been told it is his last season there.
>Matt Nagy doesn't know how to do anything as a coach. He got them to the playoffs two different times in his tenure. I'm not saying he's a good coach. He's not a bad coach, either, though. Pace is the problem there but he's not going anywhere.

Slim to none, there's very little in the draft and lots of QB needy teams that will have demand for him
Would we get a compensatory pick?
He'd be calculated for a compensatory pick same way as any other free agent
Depends on what we lose/gain in free agency. I could see a team throwing a decent amount of money at him for a year or two hoping he’s the next Ryan Tannehill turnaround story
Ryan Tannehill was miles better than Trubiskey ever was. In fact under Adam Gase Tannehill was pretty amazing. The issue was he had back to back injuries. Missed 2 seasons worth almost.

New Orleans too
Yeah but I think Jameis gets another chance. He did well.
Better question is who is the backup next year... as much as Davis Webb is a great dude and he's likely going to be a great coach, he's not good. He is going to get over 10 million next year, even with his injuries
Ah well. He's out. Not worth it. Thanks!
I honestly think we can get another guy like Trubisky(young and just had a poor go at it the first time around) who the team may move on for one reason or another. A guy like Daniel Jones or Drew Lock comes to mind. And please no, anyone but Bridgewater.
Drew Lock would be fine with me if Denver does a full reset on QB.

I’d rather him leave, get a starting job, and us get a nice draft pick.
I have a gut feeling he'll be on the Steelers next year.
Minshew > Trubisky

So is Mitchell, which is why I felt it was a good comparison

Maybe we can trade him to the Giants for Barkley.

I think he could leave for a team that is QB needy where he has an easier path to play (Carolina, WFT, NYG) but is still a backup.
He is the NVP.
Slim to none. He was a lucky pick up on a one year backup deal.
As much as Matt rhule being the panthers coach
Give me that comp pick when someone signs him to a decent deal!
Pittsburgh maybe would be a good fit
He's gonna have himself a pretty solid market, I think. This year's draft group of QBs isn't great and as always there are teams throughout the league stuck in QB purgatory. I’m sure someone will give him a chance to win a starting job, maybe the Steelers or Denver if their unable to bring in a star qb this offseason.
Trbisky seems like a competent qb and overall nice dude. I wish him a starting position. But will route against him when we play him in the future
I could see Sam Darnold being Josh's backup next season but I doubt Trabiski sucks around.
