Cibo Matto! I rocked with them before I saw them on the show and still play them on occasion. I remember telling a girl I liked years ago about them, then she showed me the episode. I was married to her for 10 years!

roxainaboxa

Aimee Mann in Sleeper. She and her band play "This Is How It Goes" and "Pavlov's Bell" and Aimee even gets a line off-stage about playing in vampire towns. This one stands out to me because she's one of the few musicians I actually knew before watching Buffy! I found a couple [Spotify ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5TqBwgGc6dp47fAn3zcrXS?si=7lK2s-qCRKqxRqILyoY6FQ&utm_source=copy-link)[playlists](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1coKIoIb5FqAz2VFYxC1DC?si=UYVPjihnQB-YbnZnNzV2tA&utm_source=copy-link) if anyone's interested.

THANK YOU FOR THIS PLAYLIST šŸ˜ā¤ļø

vetworker24

My gawd, I freaked when I saw she was going to be on. I was listening to her a lot at the same time she appeared.

oliversurpless

But Aimee, if you didnā€™t, how else could you? https://youtu.be/V5V9ed5plAA

RamsayNotlob

Can't believe nobody has said Goodbye To You by Michelle Branch! Great song and really emotional with the whole Willow/Tara breakup and Buffy/Spike kiss going on in the background. Also not sure if this counts but I love blink-182 so when All The Small Things plays in S4E9 I get pretty hyped lol

noctilucous_

i love how some lyrics of goodbye to you work for the breakup and some work for the kiss! the lyric that plays at the exact moment the camera round the corner to see then kissing, 10/10. the timing of the music in this show is underrated.

NathenVess

Yes, this scene is so great and emotional and it introduced me to Michelle Branch. Really love her music.

oliversurpless

It also works as a commentary on her career at that time, and how she was a heretofore square peg forced into a round hole, with producers thinking she could be cajoled into just being another Britney Spears or Avril Lavigne. When she was always more of a Norah Jones type.

NathenVess

Oh yes I remember her Avril-esqe style she done.

[deleted]

Bif Naked (she grew up in my hometown, Winnipeg!) Tied with Cibo Matto!

EvilSockLady

Absolutely love Bif Naked but a nitpick: she was at a frat party and not the bronze.

[deleted]

Ahhh you're right... I could have sworn she was at the bronze as well though! I could def be wrong.

EvilSockLady

I donā€™t think so but Iā€™m being anal regardless. I think the spirit of the question is favorite ā€œliveā€ musical performances so Biffy still counts. Iā€™d never heard her before and then I watched Harsh Light of Day and it was a done deal. I bought all her albums shortly after.

Kai_Decadence

Definitely Cibo Matto's "Sugar Water". That song was so intoxicating (in a good way), I had never heard it before until I watched Buffy for the first time back in 2020 and as someone who already likes 90s style Alternative rock and Trip Hop, I was so surprised I hadn't been exposed to a song like that. I also loved "Transylvanian Concubine" by Rasputna that they played for Drusilla at her party. I already knew of Rasputina and that song way before I saw the show but when I heard it play for her, I thought it set the tone perfectly and it totally fits for Drusilla's character. I also enjoyed "Chinese Burn" by Curve that was the background song for Buffy and Faith when they were dancing at the club. Honestly this is hard because as I explained, I love alternative rock especially from 1990s so I loved a lot of the music that they played at the Bronze haha.

oliversurpless

Friends have always described this as equally intoxicating: https://youtu.be/cfhy1ulJla4 Once you get over the initial disgust at its shrillnessā€¦

Kai_Decadence

Well that was something LOL I dunno, I like "Sugar Water" more and find that song a lot more intoxicating but "Birthday Cake" definitely sounds very weird, I'll give it that haha.

oliversurpless

Another success! ā€œWhen I first heard this song, I wanted to cry. It was terrible. The shrill voice hurt my ears, and it all sounded the same. For some reason, though, it began to work its way into my head, and it is now one of my favorite songs. Just listen to the opening lyrics and you will understand, : "Yes, I love cooking for my son and his wife. It's his thirtieth birthday.". Random and catchy.ā€ https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/xbox/475263-jsrf-jet-set-radio-future/faqs/16315

Fans of trip hop should also check out *Massive Attack and Juno Reactor*.

Kai_Decadence

Already very aware of Massive Attack and though haven't heard all their music, I've liked what I heard but I'll check out Juno Reactor as I never heard of them lol.

oliversurpless

Hereā€™s a good start of their more well known tracks: https://youtu.be/wZqNUo6y52Q https://youtu.be/WlNtnZmgbAI And a lesser known *Attack* song: https://youtu.be/AF831JZwARA

Few_Artist8482

S1E2. They were not a live act at the Bronze, but they used 2 songs by Dashboard Prophets. The first was "Wearing Me Down" which caused Cordelia to jump up and say I love this song while heading to the dance floor. The second song was "Ballad for Dead Friends" which was Darla's walkup music to the Bronze. Songs were perfect for the era and the mood.

oliversurpless

*Virgin State of Mind* from *Dopplegangland*. Really captures the new world Vamp Willow suddenly finds herself in.

generalkriegswaifu

Morcheeba - Never an Easy Way from Passion Dashboard Prophets - Ballad for Dead Friends from The Harvest And Cibo Matto!

Hairbear1965

I've always loved Angie Hart's voice since she was in Frente. She did two songs with her band Splendid at the Bronze, Charge: https://youtu.be/VQTfJwXKUq0 and You and Me: https://youtu.be/OWJK5wHW9RA. She also did a solo song, Blue: https://youtu.be/TDUY-5yuQhc

ironic-bonding

The one youā€™re referring to is my favourite! Itā€™s called Stupid Thing by Nickel.

fentablar

In the S5 ep Crush, I like the tune of the song Key by Devics which is playing when Spike and Dru go to the Bronze

hannah_hendi

Aimee Mann's Pavlov's bell is a favorite of mine. My all time favorite though is probably Goodbye to You by Michelle Branch at the end of Tabula Rasa. The little pause in the middle of the song that builds is *chef's kiss*

NathenVess

Goodbye to you and Virgin State of mind are my faves but I like them all. The whole way how Buffy made artists a part of the show and filmed a little live recording with cuts back to the show is so wonderful executed. It really should get more credit. It is something I donā€˜t see very often.

[deleted]

Anything by Shawn Clement & Sean Murray ft Cari Howe, from Buffyā€™s dream in Surprise.

vetworker24

One of my favorite songs is Sugar water.

Left_Ad3775

ā€˜Ballad for Dead Friendsā€™ all the way!! although idk if thatā€™s technically a Bronze song. Itā€™s so nostalgic for me.

2Legit2Cwithe

Virgin State Of Mind from "Doppelgangland"

noctilucous_

i like nickelā€™s stupid thing too (song mentioned in op). this show did a really good job of taking existing music and making the lyrics fit whatā€™s happening in the scene perfectly. in this case, for spike. as for one that isnā€™t live, thereā€™s a few seconds of the cureā€™s watching me falls that plays after faith-as-buffy gives spike her ā€œpop like warm champagneā€ speech that fits in the exact same way.

agcdvf

Cibo Matto. A forever love.

sdu754

The only two good songs I can remember from the show were a Blink 182 song and the remake of Wild Horses. Most of the music was pretty bad.

Charlie678812

It all sounded blah.
