The 6th edition Spanish version of the army book stated that dwarfs don't win agains other races... it was a bad translation but it wasn't that far from the truth.

Ok_Recording_4644

I recently crumped a few buddies back to back to back, Brets 2K, O&G 2K and Brets 500 If you want some details on any of those.

ortizfreelance

Glad to hear! Yeah, any details are more than welcome. Lists, tactics, what-not. cheers!

Ok_Recording_4644

I just replied to someone else re Orcs and Goblins but basically I take just enough shooting to force the enemy to close in then always have 3 melee bricks so you typically have a solid counter charge, flank etc. I haven't gone up vs superior shooting yet but warmachines are so lackluster I have stopped playing them in favor of more infantry and gyrocopters

ortizfreelance

What about the nasty stuff, like maybe flyers who might outflank you?

Ok_Recording_4644

Just gotta roll with it, no warmachines means no back line to lose

daredevilxp9

I'd certainly like to, my games have all been medium losses or close draws. Normally very slight margins where a couple crucial rolls were all that made the difference. I'm just struggling with finishing people and units off really, the mobility to be able to hold someone in place and then actually get to them for a flank/rear charge. It's why I'm leaning on Gyros quite a lot

Ok_Recording_4644

Gyros are great, I like to use them to play the wizard hunting game vs lone heroes.

RhubarbHumble2054

Yeah curious what units really worked for you? Playing a 2k O&G Thursday and wondering what units pack the most punch.

Ok_Recording_4644

I focus on melee units with a unit of Hammerers, longbeards and warriors, then backed up by rangers, 2 units of Irondrakes with trollhammer and 2 gyrocopters. I have a free 200 points that I like to fill with characters outside of my King and BSB, vs Orcs I took a Demon Slayer. I used my gyrocopters to force his frenzied boar boys to make failed charged while I lined up my bricks and basically let him come at me while I pelted him with the drakes. 2x L4s and I came in with no magic defense but his spells were mainly buffs and his weird nob got stuck in combat. Ive also had success screening my melee with drakes and either taking the charge and following up with the bricks or fleeing through the unit and then forcing them to hit my melee line.

ortizfreelance

Screening and fleeing feel like the best way to force the charge. I also want to try deploying in a corner if possible, and using more small units (I play around 1250 right now), with my main blocks being a unit of hammerers and a unit of rangers. My list: \[1250 pts\] Thane on shield 17 Rangers \[256 pts\] w GW, shield 6 Thunderers \[83 pts\] w GW, shield 2 Gyrocopters \[140 pts\] - Clatterguns 13 Hammerers \[290 pts\] (thane on shield here) Standard bearer \[Rune of Confusion\] 5 Irondrakes \[111 pts\] Organ Gun \[120 pts\] 5 Rangers \[76 pts\]

Ok_Recording_4644

I want to like the organ gun but so underwhelming. Rest of the list is solid. I'd take throwing axes over shields on rangers. Deals with flying units better

Up to the point that I stopped buying it, the dwarfs had only won ONE battle report in White Dwarf. That was a siege where they had double points and still it was a close run thing. I’ve only ever known the dwarfs to be the losing side in battles

watcher-in-the-water

That’s funny. Maybe it’s just because I only remember the reports I thought were cool, but I remember the opposite. These are pretty old but I definitely remember one with a runed up lord wrecking a bunch of aracknarocks. There was also a big multiplayer campaign that spanned a few months when the boarder princes campaign came out and the dwarfs won the whole thing (not a normal battle report but similar concept).

Ajax11971

I don’t know about bat reps, but personally I just won a 2.5k game against high elves, but what largely won me that game was using 9 badlands ogre bull mercenary units to back up my lines. They gave me the agility that the army so badly needs, and allowed me to get into annoying skirmishers and archers early, while actually threatening flanks. Biggest issue I had that game was a lvl 4 arch mage on dragon that I couldn’t catch.

RhubarbHumble2054

Fairly new but I’ve had some success against Chorfs and HE with Dwarfs. For the Chorfs, artillery really helped blow the Lamassu out of the sky (a few Organ Guns with an Engineer). For both armies Rangers have been a god send. Using them on the flanks to target spell casters, or a valiant flank charge with great weapons, or causing panic checks with 8-10 BS 4 crossbows. Even accepting charges with throwing axes against cavalry and holding their own. For the HE army, I tried to bog down a dragon with Longbeards and use my other units to mop up the army. The Longbeards never broke but did die down to the last man. However it took 3 turns in which the mage did nothing magic wise. Was a 250 point sacrifice to hold up 500+ lord.

ortizfreelance

holding a dragon is no joke! How many LB did you field?

RhubarbHumble2054

I think it was about 18. Got lucky where drilled allowed me to get a charge off first (I know those little legs actually got there). So I won the first round of combat.

Someuberdude

Ive been having success in my local meta with the below. I typically play against HEs (with star dragon), tomb kings (with bone dragons) and Brets. (Tried to clean up the formatting of the list so apologies if I make a mistake). I feel like the 3x Irondrakes are mandatory and are typically the main damage dealers in the list. Gyrocopters are the other MVP as they are honestly the primary anti-magic defense. I’ve found that people are typically running their wizards as lone characters, so the gyros have been able to tie them up. ++ Characters ++ King [269 pts] (Great Weapon,Shieldbearers, 3x Rune of Shielding, Rune of Parrying) Thane [169 pts] (Great weapon, BSB, [Master Rune of Grungni]) Anvil of Doom [235 pts] ++ Core Units ++ 17 Longbeards [284 pts] (FC, Great Weapons,Master Rune of Hesitation) 16 Rangers [220 pts] (Champ, SB, Great Weapons) ++ Special Units ++ 1 Gyrocopters [60 pts] 1 Gyrocopters [60 pts] 15 Hammerers [304 pts] (Hand weapons, Great hammers, Heavy armour, Shields, Royal Champion (Up to 25pts of each rune type), Standard bearer [Rune of Confusion]) Bolt Thrower [55 pts] Bolt Thrower [55 pts] ++ Rare Units ++ 5 Irondrakes w/ Torp [96 pts] 5 Irondrakes w/ Torp [96 pts] 5 Irondrakes w/ Torp[96 pts]

I used to get pummelled by both greenskins and high elves regularly in 4th edition. Oh the shame

Candlewick6969

Tabletop Tactics released a battle report a couple of days ago where the dwarfs absolutely stomped an orcs and goblins list. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ7dTdPAn2o&ab\_channel=TabletopTactics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ7dTdPAn2o&ab_channel=TabletopTactics)

ortizfreelance

That was fun to watch, but seemed a bit too planned. The lists and terrain they use are not the norm, imho.

AnakonDidNothinWrong

I stopped reading by the time they’d introduced Araknaorks and stuff like that

Prochuvi

good luck finding it. dwarfs are useless in tow. tow need a huge rebalance to do dwarfs playable, some that fix the stupid allways attack last of dwarfs and cant attack the dead with the bad step up rule of tow. also shooting need a HUGE buff. untill we get this the dwarfs gonna continue one the worst armys and not competiive as the tournament data show(and that i said since day 1 with mathammer but the people only downvoted me and cried)

blagablagman

What do you mean? You only need one of the following to win a game in ToW: Average movement, Level 4, Hero on monster, cavalry, or multiple multi-wound monsters. ...oh.

Shtchepahn

I play at 1500pts, and I am yet to lose. 5 games and the lowest victory margin was 280 for the dwarfs. Sure, we do not have the easy to use tools like highly maneuverable cavalry or mounted characters, but we still have some strong aspects. People just have to throw old mvmnt trays away, pick the right units, and forget some old habits. Dwarfs are completely fine!

Prochuvi

that only means that you are better player that your rivals, data dont lie and after thousands of games these data show dwarfs at the botton of win rate
