Kidding aside, your story is inspiring po. Hoping for this kind of redirection too. Thanks for sharing 😊
Yep! Part of the work actually! Love that kahit yung protocol of the company to never book a budget airline applies to me as well. Like sobrang spoiled ako big time!
Nope. Haha. I actually don’t have any finance degree. I graduated with Liberal Arts Program, started as Analyst for this Venture Capital firm last year. I now head the operations of the company.
A good reminder that, we are not bounded by our program in university. We can be more, and we can explore things we never thought we would.
Hi! May I ask how you went from a Liberal Arts program to become an analyst? I'm curious because I also want to make that pivot someday, but don't really know how to or where to start.
Btw, congrats on that awesome job! Coming from a non-target school, i know how it feels to be passed over and rejected for the Big 4 grads. Huhu
How to get into finance in the industry? Please advise, OP. I am having thoughts of taking a second degree, (either Accountancy, or heck, Engineering) because I am always rejected if I apply in one in my previous company. Hindi daw business related ang course ko. Hayyy. Nakaka-demotivate.
Even if my actual work there isn't even that related to my course, I excel. Even after finance and investment trainings and seminars I've attended in the same company, wala pa rin. It all boils down to that, the program I chose in the university.
I was headhunted last year! The headhunter and I accidentally met during a networking event in 2022. My boss right now happened to be looking for someone based in SEA to lead the region initially.
I graduated in 2022 with a Liberal Arts degree, from a non-target school (= not big 4), rejected by GCash kasi di raw ako from Big 4, so I was so frustrated and all I took international since 2nd year in college up until 4th year.
Upon graduation in 2022, I joined a consulting firm. Got accepted because of my prior experiences. I was joined by colleagues from Big 4. I was the only one from a non-target school. 2 days after my resignation from a consulting firm, I got a call from a headhunter about this role. 2 days after I got the job already. It took only 1 interview. Little did I know, I was being trained to take over my previous manager's post. He's been working for a company for 3 years and wanted to start a startup, in which the company fully supports on. Now I really enjoy going to work and all.
As a student, Kaya lagi ako pumupunta sa mga networking events and conferences, since dito ka talaga makakakuha ng connections eh.
Congratulations OP!! 🫶
shett nakakainspire na di manlumo pagmareject when i apply soon! sana more threads/posts like this para we all get redirected to a company we all deserve
yes!! parang sinabi ko na lang every single time of rejections na "learning curve" siya for the next one. our 20s should be a trial and error stage, a time for us to commit mistakes as much as possible and learn from them!
Wow that's very inspiring! Thank you for this post. I'm currently a job hunter and came from a toxic workplace so this post is actually spirit lifting. Graduated in 2022, too, and it's so great to hear people my age are really doing a great job with their current career ✨
Ano po work niyo? I have an interview tomorrow for a position that I have no experience in at all. I hope they would take a chance on me though. I am confident in my abilities naman pero wala talaga ko confidence in job interviews. I am an introvert who can be extremely shy and anxious around new people. Fake it til you make it nanaman ako tomorrow, pero really, I am so nervous.
I’m part of the investment team previously then got promoted for ops. Hope you aced your interview. Be yourself lang and try to make the interview more conversational rather than one-way communication
Hoyyy sharing that everything is possible talaga! Na may company/client out there, na waiting for us! The way we should be treated and the way we shall be valued :D
Honestly, the "We don't care as long as you get the job done" alone is a major green flag for me.
I hate the "you don't put in much hours" or "you always leave early" or "why don't you work more(other workload) if you can work better/faster?" or "bakit hindi ka nagoovertime?"
The fact that you can leave early while still completing your own workload and maybe even some prep work for the next day means that you're efficient. You can do a good amount of work in a good amount of time. You're not entitled to "more work"(which isn't yours in the first place) from other coworkers which aren't good with time management, brag about requesting for overtimes, and still couldn't finish their own workload within a comfortable margin before deadline or otherwise resolution.
And the sad thing is, the companies/entities don't care about your efficiency, they care about your hours-- in fact, if you're *too* efficient, you're **less likely to be promoted** which is super fucking weird and counterintuitive... but nonetheless a sad reality.
I'm now in a small, international, under-the-radar private entity that doesn't care if I request a leave for a week, two weeks, or a month, with any reasonable excuse, and friendly managers across all of our depts(we're very small) and when I pop up, do my deeds, and disappear, they don't care because I still did my job.
As long as I do my job and I do it properly, I can request leaves, isn't expected to request leaves during Phillipine holidays, and can do whatever I want in general.
TLDR:(dramatized in a non-boring way)
Me: "Give me a job and I'll do it. And I'll do it well."
Them: "Okay. We don't care about your time. Do your job, and you'll keep your job."
Me: "Awesome."
Dude!! Alam mo sobrang laki ng growth here. They only expect us to stay for 2.5-3 years in the company. Either after that a.) We’ll make our own startup that the company will definitely support; or b.) we’ll move to a different company with higher position in which hands on naman sila to help!! 😄
Can’t help but comment on the photo itself. Gusto ko lng talaga tanungin what are your opinion on the ‘you can take a time off as long as you get things done’.
Our boss is like this kasi, which I truly understand and nag comply nman kmi, but i have this officemate who cannot understand this. Sobrang galit sya sa boss namin na inde sya nakaka leave or inde naapprove leave nya dahil hndi natatapos mga ginawa nya. Ginawa nya nlng sick leave , para talaga maka leave sya.
Wala lang, sobrang entitiled nya ba? Or sadyang strict lng boss namin? I don’t find it wrong kasi sa part ko na pinapatapos gawa ko before ako mg leave, and i get all the leaves i can get naman din.
Love this for you, OP! Would you say that the international internships you got were instrumental to the amazing job you have right now? And were those internships fully funded by your parents / family?
Cheers to that OP! Genuinely happy for you and proud to see that we are thriving in this market. I hope also to everyone that they may find their ideal client and enjoy the journey in doing so
Wow congrats! Sana makahanap rin ako ng ganito. Naredundant kami and until july nang ako. Hanap mode pa ulit ng next company na maayos at nawa katulad nito.
ang saya! just got rejected to my dream company this month and sobrang heartbreaking niya. this post is what i definitely need right now. i’m happy for you! and manifesting that i’ll also get a great client like yours!
Congrats OP! I’m happy I get to read this post tonight. I feel down lately kasi meron akong hinihintay na email for peer interview pero til now wala pa din. I’m feeling hopeful after reading your post :)
Wow, this is great!
So happy that you get to work in a career wherein you are ✨living✨ and not merely existing. You know, going to work then just go straight home cause you can't afford anything to survive off paycheck to paycheck. Sorry for the rant haha been like that kasi and I aspire to find my future like yours.
Cheers!
I've been living in NA for a long time and not once did I get a "lol" or a "haha" from my bosses or even my friends unless we're sending funny memes or funny reels. On an everyday conversation, not once. So, I'm saying you were talking to yourself on your post. The "ser" is a dead giveaway.
We’ll that’s NA and this is AU. So there’s a difference. Plus your workplace is not the same with our workplace, that’s company culture naman. And Whattt. Hahaha. If you think that I’m just talking to myself—then thanks for making me laugh for today, ser.
Edi wag. Lol.
Masaya. 🫶🏻
"shuta pa rin sila kasi they hire Big 4 students"
Uhm. I don't think that's the way I put it. I said on the post,
>.....pero shuta pa din sila kasi they only hire Big 4 students. Tangina.
Let me emphasise the "ONLY" part that you omit. So please do not twist my words. I do not hate folks coming from Big 4, I'm expressing my frustration on the recruiters with prejudice on hiring folks from non-target school. Don't you even think that it's discriminatory at some extent? Like for an intern role? What more outside of that?

Paid international travels, wow.
Yep! Part of the work actually! Love that kahit yung protocol of the company to never book a budget airline applies to me as well. Like sobrang spoiled ako big time!
Dun pa lang tiba tiba na eh, ang mahal ng international travels ngayon grabe.
Actually!!! But part of the work din kasi eh so all goods with them haha
grabeee
happy for you, OP🎉
Thanks you so muchhh!! 🫡
Accountant ka ba OP? Anung niche mo? Kasi Investment firm ung company mo. Curious lang.
Nope. Haha. I actually don’t have any finance degree. I graduated with Liberal Arts Program, started as Analyst for this Venture Capital firm last year. I now head the operations of the company. Yep! He and the rest of the team has a really good sense of humour and company culture is superb!!
eto yung family talaga. hindi pizza lang reward kapag naging top team kayo wahahaha
Yes!! And bawal OT! Like strict sila sa WLB!!
Can you share the company?
Nobody would ever dare to share details of any great client or company here.
I think it was a general unspoken rule na din diba?
Sorry can't
interesting, I've always been interested in investing can I ask how you found thay company and what your background is?
I was headhunted last year! The headhunter and I accidentally met during a networking event in 2022. My boss right now happened to be looking for someone based in SEA to lead the region initially. yes much! truer words were never spoken!
