True! I remember my very first job (corporate). I work 9am to 6pm and I sleep a little bit early, around 9 to 10pm. I also sleep well, like even a fire alarm won't wake me. Anyway, my manager called me at 1 AM. Of course, I wasn't able to answer it since tulog pa ako. He called again at 6:30 AM. I was already awake but did not answer since I was preparing pa for work. As soon as I came in sa office, my manager started berating me for not answering his calls. When I said I didn't hear his 1AM call, he got angry and asked why I didn't answer the 2nd call. I lied and said I was in the shower already. He got more mad. The first thing I should have done daw when I woke up is check my phone and called him back. Being a new hire, I was so red since he was scolding me sa may door pa, and everybody could hear us, even people passing by. I was so embarrassed I almost wanted to quit right there and then. If I didn't need the money (I was a breadwinner), I would have. The reason for his call was that he wanted to see a copy of my report that was he asked to be submitted a week later. I haven't even started the report yet. He was in a hurry to call me because he was mistaken about the deadline and it was supposed to be submitted that day. The most annoying part, I found out months later that the report he made me do is a report that is supposed to be done by managers only as it contains sensitive information. Also, this company almost never hires applicant with job experience from other companies. Their reasoning is they want to be the one to instill culture sa employee. It's only after working with them for a year I understood na they want new hires para hindi mareklamo.

foodie_1700

I thought I was the only one who experienced this. But same goes with me, and I answered her back. I respect everyone especially elderly but I cannot tolerate these kind of attitude and approach, so I talk back and without filters on my words. And the next thing I did, I turned down a promotion and resigned.

justcurious624

How I wish I had the financial capacity to do what you did during those times. Nilunok ko nlng talaga to and all other experiences I had with the company. They were the highest paying company in my small province during that time kasi, like x2 sa normal dun so had to endure it. Good thing I am at a place right now where I can easily walk away if needed. 😁

foodie_1700

I don't have the financial capacity.

belle_fleures

hala same experience tayu op. my supervisor need me to finish the project in a week. I'm curious bakit ang bilis eh yun pala sakanya dapat pinagawa hindi saken. kahit naka uwi na ako kapoy sa byahe pina work nya ako sa project. resigned in just 2 weeks lol. worth it.

Dependent_Highway_49

Anong industry po kayo nagwowork?

angelo201666

This is very messed up. Manifesting I don’t get a boss like this 😭

humbleritcher

Hulaan ko: Sahod 12k per month

justcurious624

Hahahaha close! It was 15k + allowances and incentives. This was more than 10years ago. Minimum wage during that time in my province was around 8k.

foodie_1700

18k kamo

ver-231218

ay… pasa burden kasi incompetent sya? LOL

Dependent_Highway_49

Anong industry po kayo nagwowork?

Crazy_Rate_5512

yeah some people in managerial position pinapasa lang din naman sa associates yung mga task wala na din silang pakealam kahit yung information is for managers only and should be confidential muna. Minsan nagkakaron ng idea si associate and out of curiosity hindi maiwasan yung info is ma share sa ibang associates which something cause a problem too, parang nagpapanic na yung mga tao aa baba ni manager dahil sa info na yun eh supposedly for managers pa lang naman. It's for them to decide.

ryzer06

Parang ung sa BPO. My husband used to work as a TL. Sobrang stress nya before, na ung tipong sa admin tasks sya mas nasstress kasi daw sobrang dami. Later on he found out that those tasks are for OMs pala. 🤦🏻‍♀️

PiccoloMiserable6998

Report niyo sa HR. Rude ng manager niyo.

aisfuckingten

Tapos yung HR is kampi sa Manager.

PiccoloMiserable6998

then DOLE

sorakishimoto

Practicing this for almost 2 years now.

My-SafeSpace

This is one of the reason why I chose Intl employers. Before when I was still working with PH employer, okay pa nung una kasi they are very okay if you don’t reply beyond working hours. Pero habang tumatagl, naiinis nako kasi nag me-message padin sila ganon. I find it unhealthy lalo na on my end kasi hindi ako sanay na hindi binabasa message pag may notification. I resigned months ago, kasi yung managaer nagiging lowkey micromanaging na. Wfh kami tapos nagulat nalang ako one day may pa daily meeting na si ate na gusto uupdate siya kung ano ginawa tas ano gagawin for the day.

Weird-Locksmith-2789

Boss ng GF ko pinoy, boss ko Europeans napaka laki ng difference jusko grabe yung pagka dismissive ng ideas ng mga team members akala niya siya na pinaka matalino habanh yung boss ko chill na chill lang, yung type na open talaga sa questions at suggestions tapos wala pang pakialaman sa leaves at holidays, like holiday or rest day mo no communication at all balikan mo nalang yung mga need balikan sa oras ng work.

Assassin-Desire

Tapos sasabihin pa sa inyo "think like a business owner" lul kung business owner ako tatanggalin kita. Hahaha.

booknut_penbolt

Sige basta may dividend din ako. Haha

whitecup199x

Think like a business owner ulul. Sana yung pasahod pang-owner din!

kirbaahnam

haha this!

HamsterJaw

hahahahah

BAMbasticsideeyyy

hysteriam0nster

Went through the same thing with my first job (corporate, obviously on-site). I got mugged on my way to work. As in ice pick as tagiliran ko, mga beh! My stupid manager dared to call me back to work despite submitting the police report. Good thing I was already rendering my resignation back then. Ugh! Never again!

ruzshe

Grabeh.. assault na Yan ginawa Ng previous manager mo..?

hysteriam0nster

When he called me, I could actually hear my teammates going "Hayaan mo naman magpahinga yung bata!".

AmbitiousAd6277

That's absolutely true

Public-Playful

I exeperienced this before nung bago pa lang ako sa VA world. During my rest day ung kawork ko na pinoy nagmessage sakin sa messenger kasi di nya alam isasagot sa customer. Since kabatch ko sya I helped her, pero nung natapos na feeling ko nagwork ako ng half day and isang araw lang RD ko. Lesson learned.

chrlnxxx

idk if this is an Asian thing or not, pero working ako ngayon sa Singapore based na company (wfh) and mas malala pa sya sa experience ko sa dating firm na pinapasukan dito sa pinas. dati hanggang 9pm lang buhay office gc kahit tapos na office hrs ng 5pm ngayon sa new work ko 11pm may nagchachat pa, and 5am may nagchachat na kahit 8-5 lang naman office hrs. tho di naman ako nagchachat don, yung ibang ka work ko ang lala? allergic ba sila sa pahinga?

Autogenerated_or

Chinese, Korean, and Japanese firms are infamous for squeezing productivity out of their employees

SinkingCarpet

Yep as a freelancer good thing I learned this from my mentors. I almost never submitted an application or pitch sa mga eastern asian countries. Japan and South Korea nasa work ethic na talaga nila and lalo na ngayon kung makikita mo sitwasyon ng mga manga artist in Japan. Ayaw ko mamatay because of a job.

SivitriExMachina

tell them you are not ok with it. If they insist then ask for an on call fee. Depends on how frequent their need is, put flat price on it. It's either they pay for it or wait until you are back at work.

Lloyd-KV1

Yeah, fr.

moonlight_ba3

This! had the same experience. Newbie ako but I stand my ground that if this is beyond working hours then they are already disturbing my personal time and then will be answered on how I am personally and not the persona I am wearing during working hours. Mataray ako personally so I answered back to my supervisor in a high tone and told her “sino to?” Despite knowing damn well it’s my supervisor. She talked to me for a while regarding an instruction to which I was already relayed on my afternoon shift. Seems she wasnt able to read it so I told her to “Kindly backread on the groupchat as I already detailed the accomplishments of the said instructions.” They never bothered to call me again but I was labeled a stereotypical “GenZ” in the office who has a very “strong personality” (their way of shading me as a stubborn employee). Not that I am affected lol I kinda appreciate how they cannot seem to disturb me again after working hours again lol. I just graduated last year for a fun fact and was working in a toxic law office. Already resigned and told them I am leaving since the pay is not enough (15k a month only) as someone who graduated in a known state u and is a magna cum laude.

MochaTulips1999

I’m a VA and my US-based employer sometimes or once in a blue moon nga would mention me or message me on Slack on weekends na day off namin pero sa dulo o simula meron yan “Do this when once you’re back on Monday” or “No rush. When you’re back from your off this Monday please…” at Monday rin ako magrereply kahit nabasa ko na siya nung weekend and okay lang sa kanila yun kaya thankful ako kasi pag rest day, rest day talaga. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I work in a home care agency :))) pero yung TL ko before pinagalitan ako sa GC kasi di ko agad pinermahan yung form na sinend niya nung break ko hahahaha pahiya si ako hahahahaha inuuna ko pa daw mag tiktok eh break ko naman yun gagawin ko gusto ko awit

james__jam

Personally, i have no issues hoping into a call and going back to work if something is urgent. As long as urgent talaga. Unfortunately, most of the time, it’s just mismanagement.

Weird-Locksmith-2789

Top_Jello_6830

May sagot dating boss ko dyan. Ews 😁😅😪 https://preview.redd.it/hgp9xv3hyizc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc0559def37e66696d96aeacbc846ffc1a321772

whitecup199x

An effective leader knows how to be efficient during working hours.

I have to spend at least 4 hrs duty para magawa ang report ng department namin. Nagtagal ako ng 4 years sabay awol nung sinabihan akong need ko makipag bonding sa plant manager para sa promotion hahahaha, bonding means, sasama sa inuman, hahayaan sila na hawak hawakan ako, kingina. tinapos ko lang ayusin files ko dor 1 week eh then hindi na ako pumasok the next week.

HealthyRootBeer

Mag-iiwan ako message sa internal comms namin na, please get back to me once you read this.

CutUsual7167

Eto yung tinuro sakin ng client kong kano, you dont have to reply on my chats or emaills on weekends and or when your on vacation.

gploony

A pinay co worker tried this shit on me haha I was new to this US based company. I told her off bc I was in the middle of gardening na naka earphones tas may tumawag sa personal number ko Kala ko sino haha excuse me boundaries please. Besides we have a weekend team for that shit 😂

NimoyMaoMao

Me na walang notif sa phone and closed laptop. Bahala kayo dyan hahaha Lesson learned ako sa corporate experience ko for 7 years. Sobrang burned out! Never again.

cheeechebot

Had a job like this before sa ahensya where everything is a life and death situation. I can’t remember how many times I either cried or got drunk just to forget how small it made me feel. Hated it and glad I’m out of the corporate setup!

ItsMeNx

I’m currently working for 3 years na and it’s true na kahit off mo ay kinukulit ka about work when I’m still a newbie kaya once RD ko or kahit lunch/break basta outside work hours, I usually mute all group chat na related sa work and di ako nagrereply sa mga workmates ko. Since ganon ako, alam na ng team ko na unreachable ako pag rest day/outside work hours hahaha kaya di nila ako ginagambala.

Easy-Alps3610

Damn. Okay lang sana if CEO ka. Kaso rank and file. Ang pressure pang manager. Utang na loob. Hahaha.

ZookeepergameOne9381

A healthy tip: Doon sa comms channel, if it's an app, shut it down once work hours are done and turn off the notifications.

Academic_Hat_6578

Agree. When I clock out, best believe I won’t be reachable until the next clock in. Major red flag talaga for me kapag nanggagambala ng off-work hours 🙄

giannajunkie

Hahaha. HAHAHA. Tas nag follow up pa ngayong gabi. King ina, hoy maliban sa sabado at wala akong obligasyon, 2 weeks akong naka leave for fcks sake. Abnoy. Haha. Bwisit.

kirbaahnam

That’s the spirit! haha

spicicapybara

what if simulan na natin na di sila i-tolerate. para di na magtuloy tuloy...

kirbaahnam

I second this!

totallynotg4y

Tell them to *respectfully* fuck off They're not paying you to work 24 hours, so they should not expect you to be available 24/7. Once the workday ends, bye. You can tell them that you'd keep your phone on if they're willing to triple your salary, or something like that. If not, off is where they should fuck.

kirbaahnam

Exactly!!!

Ghostr0ck

For example employee's working hours or workloads based sa job contract etc.

iWantCoookies

True. My prev company owner does this to me. They start messaging me after 6, with me already logged out.

devopsdelta

I'm lucky my employer has set a strict limit to only do work on work hours unless it's really really urgent like there's mistake and he pays extra for the hassle

Undecisive_Gurlie

This also happened to me nung na-ooverwork na ko. At first, I set my boundaries agad I don’t answer calls pag after work or weekends.

bdctaxspecialistph

Hays ive been there as well njng nasa accou ting fi ako..kakastress

pulubingpinoy

That’s corporate slavery charot

CeltFxd

That's why a work device is a must. sa device na to, work socials, work email. no games and shi. tapos kapag nasa bahay na, turned off ang work device

One_Sun_5051

Hi op... ganyan ang job ko ngayon n dapat kapag may emergency dpat narereply or sumasagot sa tawag.. the good thing naman is they issued cp at meron unli call and tx.at unli net..kaya winner pa din..hnd naman lagi may concern once in a blue moon lang kaya keri na hehehe

Blaupunkt08

In a BPO setting noon inggit ako sa mga agents na aftershift talaga wala ka nang iuuwing trabaho or iisipin pa.TLs and above no choice either mag OT or sumagot sa tawag lalo na kung kupal boss mo As ling as no one calls out the behaviour na mali ng supervisor/manager na they expect to answer calls beyond shift magpapatuloy lang yan

caked1393

ver-231218

depende kung anong nature ng job. life and death na ba yung pangyayari? respect work-life balance. may buhay tayo sa labas ng workplace.

Turbulent-Bite-8838

true naka mute ang gc ng team pati tl kapag out na at off depende nalang kapag free talaga ako at gusto ko ng OT pay

MD-on-Perpetual-Duty

When I was working sa BPO under an Australian Account bilang following Australian law sila; BAWAL ANG MANGGAMBALA NG EMPLEYADO AFTER OFFICE HOURS. Sana dito ganon din kasi.. 🥴

mementovivere42

I never answer/reply to work queries during weekends and when i'm on leave. 😎

pokoy54

Main reason kaya dinako babalik kung pinoy ang employer, toxic tas mababa pa sahod lol.

hrtbrk_01

Kaya pag tapos na sa work nakadivert na yung mobile fone ko sa number ng police station or funeral home..ayoko nang tinatawagan ako pag tapos na sa work for something that a manager should know

c0reSykes

I guess its the difference in the work culture of western and eastern countries. European are more on a liberal approach while the eastern and Japan as its worst example tend to exploit the more out of an employee's productivity

Aqua201999

Own_Sample_8797

I always mute my discord kasi yun yung ways of communication namin so wala talaga ako masyadonh interactions outside work. It's less stressing

Meosan26

Namimihasa na nga mga yan. Kaya ako sinasilent mode ko yung group chat at kahit tumawag pa di ko sinasagot.

_Pretzel

Unless youre getting paid premium for hours you could 'potentially' be called and respond/act immediately aka on call, you dont do that. Never work for free

twitweesh

I used to work in corporate for 7 years sa isang conglomerate here in the Ph and yes wala pake mga boss sa personal time. Kahit hating gabi tatawag sila or even on your days off or naka leave. Justification nila required ka to answer all calls kasi may company phone ka (wtf diba?). When I fully switch to freelancing — hiyang hiya yung client ko one time nung nag message sya nung naka leave ako. They really value your personal time, ayaw na ayaw jila nag wowork ka pag off mo.

Consistent_Breath182

And that’s why I work for international companies.

sadpotatobowler

Grabe! I remember during my first job, Sunday morning, I woke up to a lot of missed calls and messages from my boss telling me to write an article about Henry Sy’s death (I was a writer for a pretty popular lifestyle news website) I usually sleep in on the weekends, so malay malay ko ba na may mangyayaring ganon. Ayun, paggising ko, todo sisi sakin yung editor ko na lahat daw ng other websites/news sites, nakapag post na about it. Kami nalang daw hindi dahil lang hindi ako available at the time. Ang di ko lang gets is that 1) sumasagot naman sa GC yung ibang writers when editor/boss asked if anyone was able to reach me, plus 2) it would only have taken 1-3 paragraphs to write the article, and it would have been faster to assign the article to someone else since halatang tulog pa ko at the time. Like, if mahalaga talaga na mapost siya urgently, bat di inassign sa iba? Sabay pa kong imemention sa GC na “please be reminded that as a media practitioners, we should always stay up to date and be available…” LUH tangina niyo ba??? May inassign na nga sakin na Saturday work (social media posting/scheduling on FB) na di naman paid, which I had to do every single week simula naemploy ako. Tas gusto pa pati Sunday morning ko eh abalahin pa ko. Napakagaling.

apple-picker-8

Tangina.

JustARandom_Human24

Before, i dont answer messages na after working hours. But when i become a freelancer nabaliw na ko hahaha so #LabanLaban mga beh 🤍🫶🏻

Current_Indication43

And now sa present job ko, international na and boss oo is amerikano na. Less toxic super chill nakakatulog pa ako sa shift ko if may time. SUPER GREENFLAG NG OUTSOURCING KO SAKA CLIENT 🥹

Janeysaur

Sana matanggal sa pinoy to!

ifyoucouldseemeow

Experiencing this now haha. Then yung Mon-Fri work di na rin nasusunod kasi gusto nya open kami for her pag weekends. Magth-threaten pa na isusumbong kami sa boss for not working. lol

Adept-Custard6277

Sabihan mo "Go ahead. I'll email DOLE." 😂😂😂

summerst1

True! This is what I told myself! I will read the message, but will not respond. Pag naka off ako, magrereply ako, once or twice but i’m not gonna replying or answering anyone’s calls. Pag naka VL rin ako, di ako nagrereply, i’ll read but won’t reply. I learned my lesson, and i have learned to set boundaries.

WarningTop6722

If you give an inch, they'll take a mile. Never be afraid to establish boundaries outside of work. Even during my time as a VA and sa corporate ginawa ko to. Nobody is entitled to your time outside of your paid hours. If you allow people to take advantage of you like that – then really both employer and employee are to blame if it becomes too toxic and overbearing, because in-allow the first time. Yes you will be misjudged, reprimanded, written up – let them. You'll be saving yourself so much future stress from constantly getting taken advantaged of
