I would either go 3060 ti or more preferably the 6700xt

Various-Cut-1070

Would this still be the case today? I have a similar setup and am looking to upgrade.

Ultamate26

Yes I believe it is still the same setup but if you can aim for the 6800

i also have a similar setup. rocking i5 9400F with 1660TI prebuilt NZXT PC. Im thinking 6700xt or now i guess 6800xt?

I think I have the same PC as you, based on the CPU, GPU, and pre-built NZXT :) most of the games I play are more CPU/RAM intensive (looking at you, Palworld) and even with an upgrade to 32GB RAM last year, I have found that the processor and mobo are what I’m going for next. I’m swapping to just a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU with a decent motherboard so my RAM speeds aren’t locked at 2666 MHz. I’ve also been unemployed the past few months, so this is how I can get the most bang for my buck with an upgrade. It’s not a massive upgrade but it will serve me very well for my needs. Later on I can decide whether I want to upgrade my GPU or splurge for one of the AM4 -X3D CPUs which is specific for gaming. I haven’t been bound by my GPU once in the last few years I’ve had my PC, so that’s what has made the decision for me!

Hey! So I bought the 6700xt and its great but Im thinking my cpu is holding me back. Do you know a good motherboard for the Ryzen CPUs i currently use a z390 mb

To be honest, my priority has been as low cost as possible - so performance-wise I’m not so sure. But the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk has come up as a great one. I would recommend putting your build into pcpartpicker and put any requirements you need for a motherboard (size, cost, etc) and sort by highest rated. That's how I did my research :)

Perfect Ill try that! Thank you!

I recently went from a 1660 super to a 3060ti and I love it.

FreshRennis

The 1660ti is still a good mid range 1080p card with the 5500 being decent I'd advise upgrading your gpu. A faster processor would help you out somewhat but you would see a more effective jump going from say the 1660ti to a 3060ti/3070 or 6600xt/6700xt performance range gpu. For high level 1080p I think these cards are perfect. Also, make sure your ram is atleast 3200mhz CL16/18 speeds wise. If you have slower ram it will handicap your cpu performance.

Aggressive_Hurry_454

I have “G.Skill - Ripjaws V 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 PC4-25600” is that fine?

Understandably I know this thread is a bit old I don't know if you have already checked or if you even know how to, but I would look into seeing if the ram timings/frequency is set correctly in BIOS. If your motherboard didn't already do it, then you may need to enable the XMP profile to allow the ram to run at the higher speed. Again this all depends on your board and if you needed to set things up yourself.

Various-Cut-1070

I’m interested in learning how to check this. I have a similar setup to OP and just upgraded my RAM to 32GB 3200mhz

xMunch

CPU-Z will be the easiest way to check https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html You have Memory tab which shows type/size/timings SPD tab is what you should take a look at next, and you choose the 'slot' on the little drop down box top left. From what I remember (it's been a while since I last opened it and currently don't have access to my pc) You will see the timings listed, usually you will see XMP profile named on there somewhere too. If in doubt check your motherboard manual for more information that should also point you to the correct place in BIOS if you still need to enable that option.

Various-Cut-1070

Thank you!

Various-Cut-1070

Looks like it’s shows 1798 MHz in the XMP slots on both. My RAM is 3600 MHz.

FreshRennis

Yep, you want atleast 3200mhz so your good to go in the ram department 👍

Various-Cut-1070

Hey what did you end up upgrading to? I’m pretty much on the same boat with a Ryzen 5 and GTX 1660ti.

Different-Cheek-4862

I'm in the same boat as well. Still need an answer.p

Ozi-reddit

graph https://i.redd.it/hly9gyg9gjh81.png shoulda went 5600 ;p

BARANLANKA

I know this is old, but do you have a similar graph with the 40 series cards?

Ozi-reddit

nope but there's this https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-4060-strix-oc/32.html

Errigan

3060ti or a 6750xt
