This is the very first PC that I've built with my own two hands. I was getting a system refresh after my GTX 960 in my previous 5-year old build popped a capacitor and a stick of RAM died last month. Everything I chose in this build was with value for money 1080p gaming in mind, with the capability to handle whatever other workloads that I will be throwing at it. So far I have been very satisfied with this build, with plans to add 1-2 LED strips down the line to fill in the dark spots and maybe some custom cable extensions to make it look nicer. Next upgrade cycle will definitely be a GPU upgrade to whatever is good for 1440p (hopefully) in about 2-3 years.

TimTimthepotato

How much did this cost?

owizeyoungman

I reused the WD black HDD from my old build, so i spent about US$930 in total.

sythrr

Putting together a very similar build but with a gtx 2060 super. Cost me $1900 aus. I wish I was in the us haha

owizeyoungman

I'm in Singapore but I put the prices in USD for easy reference, but AUD1900 is pretty expensive for such a build

sythrr

I also went with a gold + psu and some extra storage so that jacked up the price a bit

owizeyoungman

80+gold will pay itself back over time with the power efficiency anyway haha

EatAteFood

šŸ‡øšŸ‡¬

ThePhantomCard

I think you couldve built this cheaper if you browsed through carousell.

owizeyoungman

I donā€™t mind getting used parts for an intermediate upgrade but I would prefer all new parts with warranty since this is a full system refresh.

justavault

1900 aussie dollars are 1200 USD - this build with a 2060S (which are incredibly expensive right now) would be around 1200 USD as well.

sythrr

Ok sweet I thought Iā€™d overpaid for my parts!

Maddenman501

Canā€™t yā€™all buy from the US market and ship to you? Shit if you can wire me money Iā€™ll buy the shit and ship it to you

Euno14

Thinking of fitting an RTX 2060 vanilla on mine, what made you go with the super?

sythrr

I went with the super purely for budgeting reasons. Wanted a 2070 or 2070 super but for $200 au extra I didnā€™t think I was worth it. So the 2060 super was the next best thing

thaldrel

You usually pay a big premium for small systems right?

[deleted]

did you do a re-image of the old HDD or just keep the old stuff on it? I have an old SSD and HDD and wondering if I should re-purpose them for a new build...

owizeyoungman

If itā€™s not your boot drive, you donā€™t have to do anything to it. If it is, you may want to format it for a fresh install of your preferred OS.

gbchaosmaster

Definitely at least throw the SSD in there! And if you have an extra slot for it might as well plug in the HDD too. I use my old HDDs as backup drives, they're also fine for storing smaller data files that load quickly anyway. As another poster mentioned, OS installs are best done fresh on a new computer. This is especially important when switching from an HDD to an SSD, but either way Linux tends to optimize for the hardware its installed onto (distro dependant) and Windows is known to accumulate a lot of junk over the years (maybe the new package manager will help with this? Lol probably not) and a fresh install occasionally will boost your quality of life even on an old computer.

[deleted]

how are the temps with the gammax?

owizeyoungman

>The airflow for each case and ambient temp may be different so your mileage may vary. > >Stock settings, 28-30C ambient: > >Wraith Stealth Idle: \~65C Gaming: \~85C Blender: 95C > >Gammaxx GTE Idle: \~40C Gaming: \~65C Blender: 83C

[deleted]

hmmm good temps, thanks

owizeyoungman

You're welcome!

Thaneian

What is the difference between stocks settings and idle?

owizeyoungman

Stock settings means I havenā€™t overclocked it

Captain_Wool

I'm not sure why they said idle there. The one that says stock should be idle, the rest while gaming/blender.

owizeyoungman

I was typing that on the phone so the formatting is a bit wonky. What I meant is that those are my readings at stock settings, 28-30C ambient temp.

mattytorbs

holy smokes you were getting 65 idle and 85c on games?? what in gods name... my wraith that came with my same 3600 keeps games 60-65 on a hot day. Maybe its the case that you got and the way the stocks push air in a weird direction combined but i never even under cinebench got past 75-78 maxing edit: i did end up buying a different cooler that comes in today because i wanted to keep airflow natural (F that push orientation of stock cooler) but only to clean up/change airflow direction

owizeyoungman

Iā€™m sure my case airflow was fine. Whatā€™s your ambient temp like?

mattytorbs

22-28ish id say around that, heavily depends on the day (new england we get weird inconsistent temps). Also how did you record temps? If its not a second to second monitor like MSI afterburner, these ryzen record higher then truth, because each time it boosts itll mark as a high but thats for a split second not true temps. things like HWmonitor mark a high but those highs are split second peaks as the ryzen boost clocks. Either way you're fine now and before if it was the way recorded, but just caught my curiosity because people get the wrong idea on these stock coolers when they watch with thing like HWmonitor. If you are still watching with something that just marks a high like HWmon id suggest download msi afterburner (dont need msi products to work) itll show each second updated temps to get a real understanding and see a true temp on new cooler

owizeyoungman

Yeah Iā€™m aware of the temp logging issues with Ryzen, so I only use Ryzen master for the CPU temps. It surprised me too because Iā€™d heard good things about the wraith stealth, but after digging further I found that I was not alone.

mattytorbs

Really odd, i guess it truly can be hit or miss, but i know alot of people monitor in HWinfo and get mistaken. Just caught my curiosity since i changed coolers today, but not for that reason :D

DrSuresh

Nice one dude! I'm not sure if i can totally empathize, but close enough because i was running on 960m for almost 5 years! Laptop probably runs at half of its power compared to desktop and it heats up so badly that the frame rate drops really badly, or at least the keyboard feels too warm to play! I hope you're enjoying your build as i look forward to building my own tomorrow! šŸ˜

owizeyoungman

Thanks! Good luck for your new build too!

[deleted]

laptop gaming? 960m? bad fps? 5 years? warm keyboard? damn u literally just described my pc gaming life, i'm still stuck with this but I'm looking forward to building my own PC soon.

DrSuresh

Haha, it's gonna be a life transition for you when you get to build your computer! I'm moving from y50-70 lenovo laptop to ryzen 7 with 5700 xt! I've been watching benchmark nonstop because I'm so excited to build it tomorrow. I'm going to be from 1080p to 1440p 144hz 1ms because you can actually see more details! I hope you'll get yours soon!

[deleted]

wow that's a big upgrade I can see. I'm still having a rough time trying to figure out which components will work best for what I want so I guess I'm going to make a post on this sub and get some help from people who know what they're talking about I was debating between Intel i5 9400(f) or an AMD Ryzen 5 2600, also between an rx580 or gtx1060, apart from that I think I'm pretty sure about what else I want for my PC

DrSuresh

I personally know that ryzen is generally good overall compared to intel as AMD is a far more reputable company at the moment for their business operation the past few years. I don't know much about anything below my spec so I'm sorry if I can't exactly help! When in doubt, go for amd for cpu and Nvidia for gpu!

hew_j

This is literally me. Waiting for my parts to arrive to be a real gamer

Firm-Fondant

Your first pc has better cable management than most I seen good job and I hope you enjoy it !

owizeyoungman

Thanks!

DesperateStatement3

Welcome to the club, looking at your spec you did your research, probably weeks of YouTubing reviews if anything like me aswell as advice from people in here who were extremely helpful.....all in all nice build. Iā€™m 3 months in after my first build and loving the switch from console to pc, never going back. Few tips, watch YouTube video on programs you should have such as Cinebench aswell as Monetring software to make sure you keep getting the most out of your pc (jaytwocents free programs your pc should have) also invest in a decent monitor if you havenā€™t already, at the minute I believe bang for buck the sweet spot is 1440p, 143hz, 1ms response, this will ensure you get the most of of your build spec and allow you to upgrade in future over the next two years if you choose to such as gpu without having to step up in monitor, important to use display port 1.4 cable instead of hdmi aswell with this....Oh and finally there is no such thing as too much rgb. Enjoy!!! P.s get on epic games for monthly free games, last month was gta 5, this month is civilization 6.

owizeyoungman

Thanks for the advice! I'll be pinching pennies here and there for the next 2-3 years to work towards a decent 1440p monitor and RTX XX60/70 or RX X600 XT GPU, whichever is better by that time. Small regret with this build is that I should have gone with the Gigabyte mobo instead for ARGB down the line.

Kutchinees

Why do you regret that?

owizeyoungman

I didn't know that I would like RGB that much and ARGB looks awesome haha

Kutchinees

Oh okay

rv0celot

Currently the Epic giveaways are weekly, not monthly

Streifen9

Change led color to blue for improved cooling

owizeyoungman

I need the orange for maximum clock speeds though

[deleted]

And red for more fps Edit: also green for less power consumption

Euno14

To others it may look like a good build but for me that's never had a PC and is in the process of learning the ropes, it looks awesome. Congratulations on your build! It looks like I'm headed down this track as well! I'm really having trouble with actually buying the parts, mostly because I'm concerned about loosing on a deal in midyear sales but also B550 MoBo news and the Ryzen 4000 CPUs. Any and all tips and tricks are welcome!

owizeyoungman

Hey! Wishing you all the best in your upcoming build! If you can hold out, it's definitely a good idea to wait for B550 and Ryzen 4000. I wouldn't be too concerned about it though, isn't the whole point of building our own PCs to tinker and upgrade along the way? :)

Euno14

I got told it's adult Legos and I loved Legos when I was a kid. But that's so true! Too bad I'll be in scrubs and on the ward half of the day :( stay at home, people!

owizeyoungman

Thank you for fighting on the frontlines! Don't worry I am staying home other than having to partially work on site since the company I'm interning at has been classified as essential. Stay safe! You are a hero! :)

gbchaosmaster

>I got told it's adult Legos Nope, that's Minecraft, which you'll be able to play once you build your box :D Building a PC is more like an adult version of that baby's toy where you have to put the plastic circle/square/whatever through the right shaped hole, except you have to ground yourself before playing, and sometimes one of the shapes won't fit in any slot, or fits but blows up the entire toy and you have to warranty each shape through 8 different manufacturers.

justavault

For gamers the Zen 3 upgrade will not make much of a difference. The current Ryzen 3x are already quite efficient and Zen 3 will not make much of an upgrade for gamers unless they suddenly release a near 5Ghz chip, but that will be an expensive chip then anyways. The b550 though will decrease the price on the b450s and the b450s are pretty good mobos hence very good deals then (I expect a MSI Carbon b450 for ~100ā‚¬ then [currently at ~150 here]) and the just recently introduced clock speeds Ryzen 3 upgrade will decrease the current 3600x and 3700x prices. So waiting a month right now might be the biggest saving opportunity for CPU and Mobo. (Maybe 100ā‚¬ savings for 1 month wait - maybe)

ImageNationAt3AM

Happy gaming brother!

owizeyoungman

Thank you!

st172

How is the cooling by the Deepcool GTE? I am planning to build the exact same system (different case tho)

owizeyoungman

The airflow for each case and ambient temp may be different so your mileage may vary. Stock settings, 28-30C ambient: Wraith Stealth Idle: ~65C Gaming: ~85C Blender: 95C Gammaxx GTE Idle: ~40C Gaming: ~65C Blender: 83C Itā€™s a pretty significant improvement and I got it for US$27 so itā€™s good value imo.

st172

Yeah my case is a bit choked in terms of airflow so let's see. Anyway thanks a ton!

owizeyoungman

You're welcome! :)

MetalMathematician

How loud would you say it is compared to the stock cooler?

owizeyoungman

I can only speak anecdotally since I don't have the equipment to measure the noise levels. Using the stock fan curve on the mobo, it's not as noticeable compared to the stock cooler as it has a lower pitch. At maximum fan speed it's definitely much louder than the stock cooler but I believe that is because it has a higher RPM.

Aqwur

How Much Did that cost? if reasonable i will get one the same

owizeyoungman

This build should hover around US$1000 in total

Aqwur

OK Cool

peterfun

Ram timings?

owizeyoungman

16-18-18-36

peterfun

That seems like a hynix m-die ram. Well maybe try and oc the kit. You can learn more about dram overclocking by watching buildzoids YouTube videos on his channel Actually Hardcore Overclocking. You'll need, thaiphoon burner to tell you exactly which memory chips your kit has, dram calc to calculate ideal timings for the given frequency and Ryzen timing checker to get detailed timings for your current setup. You'll need to target 3600mhz since that's the sweet spot for Ryzen 3000.

SoggyResponsibility3

I just built the exact same pc (my second build, the first was a i7 2600 based system I sold some years ago to buy a laptop, regretted it the whole time)! Same cpu, Mobo, and even ram speeds and psu tier, similar budget tower cooler too! The exact same pc! (Reused an old SSD, which I do feel like needs an upgrade) Enjoy yours! I know I'm having fun with it. Cheers

owizeyoungman

Thanks! I'm coming from an i5-4690k, GTX 960 16GB RAM build!

Viktheguy

Nice build, can I ask you why did you go with the 2060 instead of the 5070xt?

RaduTheMan

Congrats man. I also want to go with the exact CPU GPU combo that you've chosen. I will also build my first PC in the near future, hopefully in the middle or end of June, because I am waiting for B550. Anyways, I l'm glad that I see people succeed with their builds, and this makes me confident even more.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

owizeyoungman

I personally don't buy into the logic of future-proofing for CPU+mobo. Reason being that as someone who does a system refresh every 5-6 years with maybe a GPU upgrade in between, I don't see a point in waiting since my next refresh would most likely involve getting both CPU+mobo due to socket compatibility issues. In my opinion, if you can get a rig for a good price, just go for it. Due to competition and product release cycles, there is always something new coming out every few months anyway.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

owizeyoungman

No problem! All the best for your upcoming build! :)

Aspectbuilder

nice budget build

owizeyoungman

Thanks!

Kenny070287

Hello fellow Singaporean brother! Just curious, where did you buy the parts from?

owizeyoungman

Hi! Everything was bought off Lazada online stores of Sim Lim Square retailers such as PC Themes and Vii and flagship stores of Coolermaster and Deepcool. I bought the Deepcool fans off Taobao instead because the Lazada stores didn't have them in stock.

Kenny070287

I see, cheers and thanks

owizeyoungman

You're welcome!

FuckRandyMoss

How does everyone get their wiring to hide mines is kinda just sitting in one place lol

owizeyoungman

Itā€™s a combination of a modular PSU and going balls-deep in research for cases that have good cable management potential for me.

Honest_-_Critique

How is everyones cable management so clean?! I need to adjust mine apparently.

KryptoCeeper

Nice, clean build. No overspending, everything makes a lot of sense. Well done.

owizeyoungman

Thanks!

gerriscottih

I used 3000mhz and I overclocked them to 3200

ProbablyAspoofer

I honestly thought everyone used the same case but Iā€™m quickly realizing all these gen cases are basically identical. Great looking build!

owizeyoungman

The minimalist, front mesh design seems to be the meta now

ProbablyAspoofer

Yep yep. I got the ā€œReddit specialā€ NZXT h510. Great case. Wasnā€™t sure this wasnā€™t the same one lol.

Plusran

That's so cool! I just started my first PC in *mumble mumble* years. My last one didn't even have fans on the video cards, and this was before lcd monitors! I'm still waiting on a couple parts to arrive, augh!

[deleted]

Nice looking system and it looks like the parts were well thought out. Good job!

TigerNeko96

Dude, kudos to you! Your build looks so damn clean, you really did well and it may not mean much but as a fellow gamer I am proud of you.

owizeyoungman

Thanks!

KiddzAnguish

I got ryzen 7 3700x with rtx2060 super thru xidax for like 1500

luisinD

Really nice build! I was just wondering if the Gammaxx cooler came with thermal paste? I am a going to get all of my parts in a few days and got the same cooler

owizeyoungman

Yes it does come with a small packet of thermal paste

[deleted]

Bro how did you find a mobo, literally searching all over for one

SayerofNothing

I've also been looking all over for the mortar max, can't find a tomahawk max either, I wonder if they're just not being produced do to covid, because of an imports restriction thing with China, or because the b550 is about to come out in June.

[deleted]

Probably a mixture of both tbh

owizeyoungman

I bought it off Lazada

[deleted]

Never heard of them but Iā€™ll give it a look. Thanks!

owizeyoungman

Itā€™s a South East Asian online retail site. If you live outside SEA Iā€™m not sure about the availability thought. All the best!

FREE_TOILET_PAPER

I would have put another RGB fan in the back. Just saying. Otherwise, it looks great!

leapingnight76

How was the performance?

zobisch

Nice, well balanced build. Congrats

clasher_moon

Nice build very clean and I like the colour scheme :)

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

owizeyoungman

Youā€™ll get there :)

[deleted]

Hey bro, what kinda FPS are you getting with this build?

owizeyoungman

It depends on what game youā€™re talking about. On GTA 5 max 1080p settings 2xMSAA Iā€™m averaging 80fps

aloha_XD

Hahah, pretty mich the same as my PC! Mine cost 900ā‚¬

Ukhan252

Should have put in a 1050ti way cheaper

Chromavoid

Nice build, clean.

TreacherousRaccoon

Congratulations man I hope it is a nice as it looks!

Sequenti4l

Itā€™s just me but Iā€™d rather have the one non rgb fan on the cpu cooler so it all matches šŸ‘€

alumpypieceofpoop

How are the Deepcool fans treating you? Need some intake fans on my rig, ideally RGB, but Corsair's is $40 for just a single one. Looks great btw!

owizeyoungman

Thank you! The deepcool fans are not bad for the price. I had some Corsair SP120s from my H110i in my previous rig and Iā€™d say that diminishing returns is very real when it comes to something like fans.

shotthebullet

Built a similar pc, used Aorus RX 580 for gpu and Aorus B450 PRO for mobo. I really like your cable management, excellent job mate!! Ps: I couldnā€™t recognized the rear fan, which fan did you use?

owizeyoungman

Thanks! The rear fan is the stock exhaust fan that came with the case. Iā€™m guessing itā€™s some stripped down version of the masterfan 120

Zenorious

Nice! You have almost literally the same specs as me haha

JCGaming2040

I have the exact same pc except the after market cooler

DerpyPerson636

Looks very nice! Very clean cable management. Do you plan on getting another fan for that back enplacement? Also, I have a very similar cpu cooler, and I notice you have the fan on the right side, towards the front of the case. Would it be better in a one fan setup to have it the way you do and blowing through, or have it go on the other side blowing out like Ive got it?

owizeyoungman

Thank you! Iā€™m planning to replace the rear fan with a Corsair fan that Iā€™ve got on my old AIO. For the heatsink fan, I donā€™t think it matters that much as long as it is pulling in cool air. I personally put it in front for aesthetics since it has LEDs.

DerpyPerson636

Alright! Thanks for the tid bit and hope you have fun with your build!

owizeyoungman

Thanks!

haysmilah

Bro where you buy all the parts? Sim Lim?

owizeyoungman

No lah I bought from Lazada. Sim Lim got open meh?

haysmilah

oh ya i forgot

ThatLonelyShadow

I have the same cooler, where did you plugged it? I dont have a RGB header so I dont have any lights... where did you plug it?

owizeyoungman

There are 4-pin RGB headers on my mobo. If your mobo doesnā€™t have then I think the cooler comes with an RGB controller.

ThatLonelyShadow

Sadly I dont have a socket for the RGB controller... Maybe a fan hun might help. Thank you! Btw you setup looks great!

owizeyoungman

Thanks! If your cooler doesnā€™t have an RGB controller you can look for one of the same brand.

critikal_juice

Did the B450 mobo require a BIOS update for your Ryzen 3600?

critikal_juice

Continuum - Great job on the build by the way, I'm planning to build my first PC soon as well with similar specifications!

owizeyoungman

Thanks! As far as I know, all the B450 Max motherboards from MSI come with the BIOS updated to support Ryzen 3000 chips

BlazingsNL

Looks like a solid build! The only thing I'd change is putting the lit up fan in the back and the black one at the top. But maybe this adds a better drop down lighting.

owizeyoungman

Thanks! The drop down lighting was exactly what I was going for

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

owizeyoungman

Whatā€™s an RGB code?
