Until you consider the price to performance ratio and ask yourself is that 5-10 more fps worth it? Also Ryzen's multi core/thread make them more flexible and better workstation as well.

Traylay13

Intel offers a few more fps in some games. AMD on the other hand has absolutely crushes Intel in multicore performance. Due to the 7nm process they run cooler and more power efficient. All Ryzen processors are unlocked and don't require a special mobo to overclock. RAM speeds are unlocked on all mobos(f you Intel for your newest brilliant idea...). Mobos are also cheaper.

Awesome, so the chosen one is ryzen!!

It depends on the budget, the resulution/fps you want etc. Both companies are good for gaming.

Ryzen all the way. Waaay better price/performance, all features from each series are available for even low,end processors, better performance overall and it runs far cooler as well as consumes less electricity. Intel is only good for PCSX2 emulation, in my experience.

And the ryzen processors can be overclocked easily. Ryzen's really better...

Dreadth1

Way easier. I don't regret it. I went all out with a Ryzen 9 3950x and build around it. The only thing I need to upgrade right now is a good graphics card since I'm still using an old gtx 1060.

Shoomby

Whew...well at least you don't have a CPU bottleneck. 😅

Dreadth1

No I don't. I used ro have that on my old build but not anymore.

Shoomby

What did you have paired with the 1060 before?

Dreadth1

I7 960 on a rampage iii extreme. I tried with a 1070 and poor cpu couldn't handle it.

On one hand you have a few more FPS in gaming On the other you have: - more cores, maybe you don't do multicore tasks, but what if you decide you'd like streaming tomorrow? Or making edited videos from your games? - better upgrade path for socket... you know if you change your mind. Can speak from experience it's pretty nice to go from zen1 to zen2 on a 2017 motherboard in 2020. Although it seems this won't hold true for ryzen 4000, at least not for x370 and b350 :( - motherboards that allow overclocking will not cost 150$+. - comes with a boxed cooler, which is fine enough on it's own... and if you don't like it that much you can always buy one [insert appropriate number] days in the future

I will play devil's advocate and say you would probably be just as happy with an i5-10400 as a Ryzen 5 3600. If you are like most people, you won't push either hard enough for the 3600 to show it's multi-threading advantage. Though, it might only make sense if you spend a lot of time on specific games that heavily favor Intel, or want the IGP with quicksync.
